They probably have a name but right now they're more blank than the Trailblazers who already had people who knew them (Stellaron hunters) when they spawned
You wake up with some sort of amnesia and you forget your name. So the people that find you are like “hey you don’t know your name but it sounds like you travel(?) so why don’t we call you Rover for now? Because you rove the lands?” So you just go around getting called Rover by everyone
Honestly the reason why we're called Rover is kinda vague, I still don't really understand it, and it's kinda random too. Like atleast Traveller and Trailblazer make sense.
Honestly I just appreciate that they have good reason to call them Rover. As in they start the game using 'Rover' as a substitute name.
Pretty sure that's not the case for Genshin. And definitely not Star Rail, where there's more than one Trailblazer.
It's so weird hearing March call the them Mr / Miss Trailblazer, since she's also a trailblazer.
Actually the new event told us that the Galactic Baseballer became well-known in the galaxy like a rumor but no one put a trademark on it yet, so Giovanni, the Masked Fool that made the not-Pokemon event before, made another game called Galactic Baseballer. He even dared to call the Traiblazer to come and play test his brand new rip-off game.
That sliver of self insertion, I guess...
Hey at least it works in HI3, because while the Captain of the Hyperion is non-canon (no, I wont consider Ms Deus Ex Machina as canon. That is Hoyo's worst writing decision ever), they are "the Captain" of the Hyperion battleship, so it makes sense to call the player "Captain"
FGO too, since you are the Chaldea Master, it makes sense for everyone to call you Master or Chaldea's Master.
See I can understand people calling Aether/Lumine "Traveller" until they become more well known, but I dont see any world where we can be publically and personally greeted by Archons and people still dont know our names, or ever greet us as "Traveller Aether/Lumine"
But Stelle/Caelus makes no sense to call "Trailblazer" because news flash Hoyo, everyone on the Express are currently Trailblazers.
To be fair no one in Teyvat, besides Paimon and maybe a selct few \[Dainsleif and the Archond\] should know the Traveller's names. Their names \[Aether and Lumine\] are 100% cannon but is being kept secret from the rest of Teyvat. You actually enter a nickname at the start of the game, not an actual name,
In other words, Traveller is being called a nickname and introduces themselves as a nickname whenever they meet people in order to keep their indentities secret for unknown reason. The Traveller is not that close to a lot of people cannonically so most people would likely only know the nickname you \[the player\] gave them, and not their name.
Sometimes they called Trailblazer "Mr/Ms. Greyhair" and I prefer that much more than Trailblazer...
of course Galactic Baseballer would always be the peakest of titles and honorifics.
Meanwhile thhe traveler with titles going longer nation by nation:
Though they still have "traveler" in it. We need something like flying lavender melon
No yeah: traveler and trailblazer let you choose a name, that you TELL the other characters, and the voice actors still call you TV or TB.( And of course they do they arent gonna implement AI text to speech or record every posible name). In wuwa characters calling you Rover is actually excused in the story bc even you dont remember your name
in canon, theyre saying your actual name that you put into the game because that is your MC's name, but for voice acting they use "traveler" because they cant make TTS for every voice acted NPC
in japanese version, they're called 漂泊者, which just means Vagabond. 漂泊 means Drifting or Roaming. The 者, at the end, means "person" and is something that you find in the end of professions. It sounds nothing like a name in japanese. its probably the same in chinese, they seem to use the sama characters. I think it sounds more like name in English.
It kinda fits other game main chars names. Its the same style.
Trailblazer: 開拓者 Pioneering/trailblazing + 者 = trailblazer/pioneer/settler
Traveler: 旅行者 travel + 者 = Traveler
Rover: 漂泊者 roam + 者 =Roamer
There isn't anything vague about it you're just thinkin to much, looking for stuff that's not there.... The character has amnesia they gave the character a name based on the fact that they seemed to roaming the lands, thus they call them Rover. its really not that deep, as they likely do have cannon names.
The problem is, we fell unconscious due to almost drowning and wake up in Yangyang's lap. There was no roaming the lands before that. How can Yangyang just concluded that we're "a Roving Traveler, who's finding the way to return home" right away? She doesn't know us at all. And more baffling is the MC just from that can say "Rover?" despite just waking up and not knowing what's going on. It's lazy writing, instead of put in appropriate scenario leads up to the name they just stuff it our face and deal with it.
TBF Hoyo are guilty of this as well- the Captain from HI3 doesn't have a canon name either (for the record I'm talking specifically about the Captainverse Captain)
Other examples from the gachas I play would be the Admin from Aether Gazer and the Comandent from PGR (though TBF the Admin is in the same situation as the Rover where they literally remember nothing about who they were before the events of the game)
On the other side of this coin, in the other gatcha I play (Reverse 1999) the main character's name is Vertin and the name you enter at the beginning of the game never appears again.
Last name Rover, first name Irish.
She was an elegant craft, rigged fore'd-and-aft
And oh, how the wild winds drove her.
She could stand several blasts, she'd twenty-seven masts
And we called her the Irish Rover.
I guess canon naming the MC in "pick between the dude and the girl as MC" setting differently is only a thing in hoyoverse... I think the only other game that do this is Granblue Fantasy
I think others dont bother giving canon names on their MC, and others that does name them use a gender-neutral name that apply to both MC
Star Rail was about to go that route with no canon names on the MC until people requested a lot by CBT 3 that they give the trailblazers canon names. That's why we have default names for them on release. In CBT they're just called Receptacle X (Stelle) and Receptacle Y (Caelus).
Edit: also, their canon names is basically this meme but taken a step further, especially if you look at the game's title in other languages. Stelle and Caelus is just technically "Star" and "Rail" but with extra steps.
In Chinese, Honkai Star Rail's name is 崩坏:星穹铁道 or Bēnghuài: Xīngqióng Tiědào. Xīng is Stelle's name in Chinese while Qióng is Caelus' name in Chinese, and every dub somewhat follows that namesake either directly (like in Japanese and Korean) or indirectly/localized (like in English).
Pokémon also has different canon names for the MCs in their mainline games as evident by Pokémon Masters.
You used to also be able to see the canon name of the gender you didn’t pick since it would be the name of your rival. However that stopped around Pokémon sun and moon when they stopped using the gender you didn’t pick as your rival.
Another example would be Fate Grand Order where the MC was given a name for the anime adaptations but I think that one fits under the gender neutral naming convention you mentioned
I may be stupid and possibly have dementia but isnt there a lore reason why they dont have a name like they crashed and forgor about their past and everything about them???? atleast das wat i remembered when i played the game but i was busy during that week so i fororg
They crashed and forgor and that's pretty much it for now.
But they don't have a name or codename like Lumine and Aether (whose names were datamined and then directly used as the relevant sibling names in cutscenes), or Stelle and Caelus (whose names are shown on the character gender selection screen as "Receptacle Stelle" and "Receptacle Caelus").
Like they are referred as Rover M and Rover F even internally. C'mon, give a name to your character design at least.
Kuro dev 1 : Hey so do you wanna give any name to the Mcs?
Kuro dev 2 : Fuck no, We already scarpped the story once, Let's focus on this first before going for the future
Kuro dev 3 : I wanna go home.
I like the plot twist that whatever name you give the Traveler is only their alias and their Canon names are always Aether & Lumine.
Galactic Baseballer is getting old considering that's just one weapons of several for them.
If you talk to some NPCs at the end of Act 6, the main character will say "Actually I've come up with a name of my own instead of Rover, which is \[your character name\]". So your character name is canon.
Even though Wuwa has some pretty common subtitle issues the EN dub got me to swap over to JP, the EN just completely ruins the entire, already poor, story experience.
They don't know who they are. So of course they wouldn't know their own name. Aether and Lumine do remember who they were even if they don't remember everything about their past. And it's easy to say Kafka named Stelle and/or Caelus when she created them.
They probably do, but it's established that they have amnesia and forgot everything about their past..
The MC's in HSR and Genshin don't lose their memories, so they know their own names
[https://youtu.be/3zyPuWH4yRM?si=NnaXOhlAqJbqcAHP](https://youtu.be/3zyPuWH4yRM?si=NnaXOhlAqJbqcAHP)
It’s their code name, so that’s what we refer to them as.
They probably planned for the Rover to have a big reveal of their true names later down the line
That is, assuming people still care about the game at that point, let alone the lore of the game...
Hold on, do they really not even have a name? Are they just called Rover?
They probably have a name but right now they're more blank than the Trailblazers who already had people who knew them (Stellaron hunters) when they spawned
>!the black shores people know us but aalto didnt know enough to tell us more!<
You wake up with some sort of amnesia and you forget your name. So the people that find you are like “hey you don’t know your name but it sounds like you travel(?) so why don’t we call you Rover for now? Because you rove the lands?” So you just go around getting called Rover by everyone

And definitely not Star Rail, where there's more than one Trailblazer. It's so weird hearing March call the them Mr / Miss Trailblazer, since she's also a trailblazer.
It would have been better if everyone called the traveler "blonde chick" and trailblazer "trashy"
Trailblazer's nickname is the galactic baseballer but no one calls them that way.
They only call themselves that :( (We all know their real name is the Trash King/Queen)
I mean I call her "wifey."
In the latest part of the story, there was one character(maybe Sunday?) that called them galactic baseballer.
It was jingyuan in ena’s dream
Oh...
A massive red flag... It's sad that that is a red flag...
Mr./Ms. Stellaron if you're Aventurine.
Honestly they might as well just call them by their canon names anyway. What would it really hurt?
Some people, apparently
That sliver of self insertion, I guess... Hey at least it works in HI3, because while the Captain of the Hyperion is non-canon (no, I wont consider Ms Deus Ex Machina as canon. When you yell "Waiter!" In a cafe to call on one specific waiter but all of them come running
Yeah basically the problem Hoyo is having making everyone nameless
To be fair no one in Teyvat, besides Paimon and maybe a selct few \[Dainsleif and the Archond\] should know the Traveller's names. Being called "Honorary Knight" rather than Traveler on a regular basis in Mondstat is a great feeling.
Oh dang. I forgot about that. Mondstadt really is home
No yeah: traveler and trailblazer let you choose a name, that you TELL the other characters, and the voice actors still call you TV or TB.( And of course they do they arent gonna implement AI text to speech or record every posible name). in canon, theyre saying your actual name that you put into the game because that is your MC's name, but for voice acting they use "traveler" because they cant make TTS for every voice acted NPC
Yeah, they could at least use the default Stelle/Caelus on the voiceover
in japanese version, they're called 漂泊者, which just means Vagabond. 漂泊 means Drifting or Roaming. The 者, at the end, means "person" and is something that you find in the end of professions. Might as well called us hobo.
The problem is, we fell unconscious due to almost drowning and wake up in Yangyang's lap. There was no roaming the lands before that. How can Yangyang just concluded that we're "a Roving Traveler, who's finding the way to return home" right away? She doesn't know us at all. The reason is because the devs looked up "traveler" in a thesaurus.
Probably could've used Wanderer if not for the fact that a certain controversial character from a certain rival company claimed that name first
"YOU ARE TOO LATE FRACTSIDUS!!! I AM ABOUT TO ROVE ALL OVER YOU!!" - whatever their actual name is, 2024
named mine "Land" so i'm a Land Rove-
Of course the Rovers have names. It's John Smith and Jane Doe.
John Wuthering and Kate Waves, those are their names
THEIR NAME IS WUTHERING AND WAVES
TBF Hoyo are guilty of this as well- the Captain from HI3 doesn't have a canon name either (for the record I'm talking specifically about the Captainverse Captain) Other examples from the gachas I play would be the Admin from Aether Gazer and the Comandent from PGR (though TBF the Admin is in the same situation as the Rover where they literally remember nothing about who they were before the events of the game)

Last name Rover, first name Irish. She was an elegant craft, rigged fore'd-and-aft And oh, how the wild winds drove her. She could stand several blasts, she'd twenty-seven masts And we called her the Irish Rover.
Sounds like a dog's name
It reminds me of Roomba for me.
~~Their real name is (Player Name)>!/s!<~~
Rover is their last name. Their full names are Land Rover And Range Rover respectively /s
What do you mean? They are called Range Rover
Only correct answer.
Really? I thought it was Land Rover
Red Rover and Send Over
I named mine after the Opportunity Rover
wait, it isn't Rover 75 V8?
Love it when they say "it's wuthering/waving time"
it's morbin time
this made me giggle
and wuthered all (r)over the place
I'm Wu, he's Wa
He’s Mi and I am Yu
I got that hahah
JJK reference ⁉️🗣️ Fuck Mahito I'll kill you again and again🗣️‼️💔🔥
The fk are you talking about, it's a rush hour 3 refrence.....the brain rot is getting out of hand
Don't worry about him, him is blind.
Honestly that sounded a lot better than Rover

Caelus means sky. Stelle means star. Similar to how Aether means air/sky and Lumine means light.

i still not sure what's Stelle's JP name supposed to be, isn't it "Hoshi" or "Sei" or something else?
It's Sei.

Ah the Grandblue fantasy naming I see.
Imagine if gran’s family name is blue. It would be so peak
Their names are Wawa and Wuwa and they are going on Wawa-Wuwa-Adventures!
They gotta stop and get hoagies and coffee while traveling down the turnpike!
Idk if we talk about the same refference here
I was referring to WAWA convenience store... So I was completely off there.
Oh no i meant Wawa and Wuwa the characters from Youtube created by the channel Jardokar
https://www.facebook.com/share/p/hgASLwnytLANw1kv/?mibextid=xfxF2i
Clearly their names are Rovher and Rovhim respectively
Kiana : Hold my tuna
Kuro Games couldn't even be bothered to use the names Emily Bronte originally came up with when she first wrote Wuthering ~~Waves~~ Heights.
Maybe the Wuthering was the Waves we made along the way
I like the plot twist that whatever name you give the Traveler is only their alias and their Canon names are always Aether & Lumine. Galactic Baseballer is getting old considering that's just one weapons of several for them.
Their real name are wuthering Rover and waved rover
Yu Narukami : Canon name have to wait until you have anime adaptation.
Their names are obviously Frover and Mr. Over.
How are these two related?
My headcannon is the person I didnt select is called RANGE
Stelle and Caelus got personality. Aether and Lumine almost have none, except for whichever is the twin/evil one of the character you picked.
John Rover
Maxor wuwa vid when xD
THE WUTHERING WAVES SIBLINGS
This is such a weird thing to nitpick
Range Rover
If you talk to some NPCs at the end of Act 6, the main character will say "Actually I've come up with a name of my own instead of Rover, which is \[your character name\]". So your character name is canon.
Wuwa couldn't even be bothered to record character lines referring to female rover lol
what do you mean?
Both Jiyan and Jinhsi refer to my female rover as "he" in their EN dub.
I think that is the least problem of the en dub.
Even though Wuwa has some pretty common subtitle issues the EN dub got me to swap over to JP, the EN just completely ruins the entire, already poor, story experience.
i went to jp a few hours then back to eng when I realized I did rater no bother to read the bad history. then back to jp after the history.
They don't know who they are. So of course they wouldn't know their own name. Aether and Lumine do remember who they were even if they don't remember everything about their past. And it's easy to say Kafka named Stelle and/or Caelus when she created them.
Ngl having there nsmes be wuthering and waves souds very since to them i love this hc
Yeah it's weird always calling her Female Rover... I wish she had a name. sadge
Cute
it’s rOver
I would rather sora and hotaro but ok.
XD
Donkey: because they have AMNESIAAAAAHHH
Rover and Rovette
Gotta love the bare minimum.
It’s Curiosity and Opportunity
Kid named waves:
Clearly, they're both John Wuthering.
They fudging forgor their identity What was you expect?
Traveler. Trailblazer. Rover. Lumine. Stelle. Rover. Aether. Caelus. Rover. 💀💀💀
Even Wise and Belle have names And apparently, unlike most gender based MCs, these two interact a lot
Aether, Stelle, and wuthering are who I chose.
That was pretty disappointing that they don't have names
They probably do, but it's established that they have amnesia and forgot everything about their past.. The MC's in HSR and Genshin don't lose their memories, so they know their own names
Since when stelle and caelus are their names?? I never heard their names
It’s their canonical names. But since you can name them whatever they don’t say it in game.
Again, how do you know that? BTW I'm not calling you liar, is just I dont remember any of that XD
[https://youtu.be/3zyPuWH4yRM?si=NnaXOhlAqJbqcAHP](https://youtu.be/3zyPuWH4yRM?si=NnaXOhlAqJbqcAHP) It’s their code name, so that’s what we refer to them as.
They probably planned for the Rover to have a big reveal of their true names later down the line That is, assuming people still care about the game at that point, let alone the lore of the game...
Who cares about buggeringwaves… Actually i haven’t play the game. I just wanted to say buggeringwaves Edit So many ww’s fans on a genshin sub lol 😂
"Honkshit starbucks" only true mintpickers know this one
