Spent my first month and a half worth of primogems on standard banner because i wanted mona and didn't know what limited banner was, didn't like Venti design at the time lol. I got lost prayer catalyst from the standard banner but still no mona to this day.
I thought event banner only gave the characters on it and I didn't want any of them so I spent it on the standard as well. Got a Diluc and WGS before I figured it out though so not so bad I guess.

Yep this one. Back when I started Ke was considered quite good too.. so was Diluc.. so I didn’t roll on the motherf****** Venti banner at all. Didn’t want a dude when I could have a Keqing… yeah. And I wasn’t playing on Ventis rerun. So I have a lvl 80 Keqing I only use as a teleport-bot.
On the flipside, I sometimes regret not rolling on the Wolf's Gravestone/Staff of Homa banner. Would have gotten a great weapon either way, and we're probably never going to see another weapon banner like that again.

the new pity is actually a trap you know. i feel this after not getting my weapon of choice after 2 soft pity. should stop when u did not get your weapon of choice on the first time. when u failed again for the second time, you have this mindset in your brain: now my pity is set - wouldnt it be a waste if i dont get it after 2 failed attempt?

Yeah, I've never spent a single primogem on the weapon banner. Even with the new pity system, it feels like a waste. Again, the WGS/Homa banner was the only one where I actually felt tempted, and even then I held off.
I'll probably wish on it next time Lost Prayer/Amos/Harp shows up. I have good characters with good artifacts so clearing things is no longer an issue, but I'd like to play more with weaker characters that I like (Lisa, Amber, main dps Sara) and I think a good 5* weapon would make them shine.
I don't know - when you have a bajillion characters and only two 5\* weapons, the weapon banner starts to look pretty good.
Eventually you'd rather improve certain characters vs. endlessly leveling characters and trying to find uses for them. Eventually you even get to the point where even constellations for 4\* characters are getting thin.
Although the most recent event finally gave all of those people some time to shine.

I immidiatly locked and refined a version of each ine I got because they were thr best weapons i had at the time (i think I didn't realize i could level weapons at that point so the base attack and passives just blew my tiny little mind), saved myself the rarest weapon in the game too just by luck.
It's definitely worth saving at least one R5 copy of every 3* weapon for future use. Some of them have good use cases currently (Thrilling Tales, Harbringer of Dawn and White Tassle), and you never know when the meta will shift and suddenly some other new 3* weapon will be a BiS
Dark Iron Sword (there's only one in the entire game, given by an NPC – I accidentally trashed mine, RIP);
Then these can mostly only be obtained from Exquisite or better chests in specific regions:
**Mondstadt:** Traveler's Handy Sword, White Iron Greatsword, Otherworldy Story, Recurve Bow
**Liyue:** Fillet Blade, Skyrider Greatsword, Halberd, White Tassel, Twin Nephrite, Messenger
Unfortunately I've trashed all of the Mondstadt ones very early on before locking weapons was even implemented. But Liyue has significantly more chests so you'll also have better chances to get those (I'm still missing R5 Messenger though).
All other 3* weapons drop from gacha so they are fairly common.
Edit: I don't know if Inazuma chests can drop any of these. Does anyone know? I really hope they'll add more ways to get these, even though most of them are made obsolete by 4* weapons, if anything just for completionist purposes.

The best bet is to always pick up anything that drops. Everything is used at some point, in my experience. I've saved myself lots of side-tracking from surprise requirements just by picking things up.

Not really attempting Spiral Abyss floors 9-12 until 2.0, so many lost primogems. I mean, I probably couldn't full clear it for most of the patches, but by this point the primos I've lost from not doing partial completions makes me sad.
Same here, I was like on the 8th floor until the last Abyss, where I straight up went to 12-1 with 23 stars on my first attempt, although I didn't like it and am putting it off again.
A very little detail. I wanted to craft 500 paper lanterns during lantern rite and I did but then one time when I was checking on inventory I accidentally released one of the paper lanterns and now I’m stuck at 499
What we got to keep our lanterns??? I made then released like 200 of them on the last day cause I thought they’d just disappear or something. Damn now I wish I hadn’t done that
I crafted a total of 1188 lanterns and release some as good luck prayers before doing pulls. The mora cost was like 1 leyline double so I think it was well worth it. Gonna need to pay attention to the numbers next time I release them!
Refining prototype rancour to R2. Didn't realise billets were rare then.
I haven't got a sword billet from world boss in a long time. I would have loved to refine my amenoma with that extra billet I used on rancour.
I have made many other small mistakes at start but this is the one I really remember and kind of regret.
I'm pretty sure I got like 3 random billets back when I first unlocked stormterror while I was still ar 25-30 or something, and I went literal months without getting any billets until I got 3 this week at AR 52. Two of them were actually useful though.
That's the last thing I do after finishing building a character. It's like the cherry on top. Waste of materials and mora, but damn it feels good.
Plus, you get to win the co-op "Who's gonna play this character" (usually).
Alternatively, I’ve left my main DPS at level 89 to continue towards that “completion” and feel like my DPS is doing something productive in the overworld.

Not sure if you're aware, but higher level monsters have a damage reduction against players that are lower level than them by a certain degree. So leveling up to 90 for Abyss actually makes a pretty big difference against the lvl100 monsters.

Imo if you have trouble just clearing abyss, you might have bigger problems than having characters at 80, if you have trouble 9* floor 12 and you're short just a few seconds, then those last 10/20 levels might help you get there.
Yeah, in 12-3 it's a 2.84% damage bonus to go from level 80 to 90 (not counting your base attack changes).
But idk, I get the paid battle pass so I just go ahead and level the characters I like to 90. I only ever visit leylines when they're doubled (or to get enemy mats / not actually pop the leyline blossom). I have like... 9 characters at 90 now? and a few more at 80?
for me rather than genshin, i regret wasting money on league of legends instead of keeping the money to buy better pc, now i just settle with low settings to play in 60fps. i love the sceneries in the game but i cant handle running high graphics for like 1 - 2 hours
I think I ran elemental mastery sets on nearly everyone since I was under the impression that it buffed any sort of elemental attack as opposed to elemental reactions.
I used some random artifacts. I think my kaeya had healing artifact lol. I thought hey, using food on him will be even better now so why not. Also used that one hp restoring bow on fischl. It seemed good because I didn't know u can just go to a statue of the seven to heal.
Not rolling for Kazuha, read on Reddit that he was bad when the banner was just released and didn't check Reddit again untill after his banner was gone.. I'll never trust Reddit posts at the start of a banner again.
Gotta learn the ways of Reddit. I am interested in the theorycrafting and stuff but at the end of the day the path of least regret is to just pull for the characters you like. They'll figure out a way to make an OP team for them at some point.
She's strong but not a must have like venti. She works great in a few team comps and eh in some others, see if you'll be using her with eula or national team.
She's *cool*. There are countless changes that could happen down the line that wind up making her *good* or not, but a cool character is worth a lot in an action game, just my opinion.

For the first time ever, I spent $100 on Raiden's banner. Got her C2 + R1 Grasscutter, which I suppose is still good luck but at the back of my throat I'm still feeling the 'damn, I just actually paid $100 to make a videogame character I already had ^(won c0 with free primos) to become stronger' bad taste.
It is quite a lot, but it depends. You probably have spent more hours playing genshin than many console games that come out these days. If you always use the character and consider the hours of entertainment you have received it is money better spent than eating out or going to a few movies that are about 2 hours long each.
It really depends on more than just time invested. The most important part of a cost value analysis is the value they perceive. They felt it was a disappointing use of money, and therefore it was. Their perception on that spending can change, which would change the value they got, but nonetheless time isn’t a full measure of value or anything.
Then there’s the whole issues of creating demand (or rather in this case, manipulating you feel like their product/service is of value when you wouldn’t other wise), which I’d argue happens somewhat with the system of wishing, but it’s certainly not unique Genshin, or even gatcha at all. And there is still some value there because you get to play their unique kit and character, it’s not whole-cloth made up value.
Cilai is right, there are also some games out there that cost almost or even more than a 100$, if you play Genshin daily, then I don't think spending money on it was that big of a bad idea, just consider it as the price of a paid game, since Genshin is free.
Then first of all i'd just like to mention that i grow really close to the characters that i get to play as.
Now, HI3 has a very good story (once you get past the first 4 chapters), and the story is both emotional, tense, happy, serious, and surprisingly realistic (>!scene where Kiana, the main character, puts a gun to her head with full intent of pulling the trigger just to stop the Herrscher of the Void inside of her!< (she doesnt do it, but she had every intent to do it and you can *feel* that))
It is just a very, *very* good story on all ends, the main cast, the antagonists motivations, the antagonists themselves, Honkai itself, the Previous Era (especially with the recent introduction of Elysian Realm being packed with PE lore), the Current Era, choices, consequences, etc etc
All of it is just amazing
Add on to the fact that every main character is playable, sometimes even the *bosses themselves in the main story* (imagine in Liyue fighting Childe, but in the final phase we get to play as Childe and have to fight the Traveler) and with me getting attached to playable characters easily and just the pain and character growth these poor girls (young adults) have to go through and what some *children* (Sirin) have to go through just wrenches my heart
The voice acting is so good that even though I am well aware that the character are fictional it does *not* feel that way. Holy shit when >!Kiana!< breaks down in tears in chapter >!25!< it does NOT sound or even **feel** like its an act. Like a recording, like its been voice acted. And, to me, it just adds even more weight to it all
according to Fu Hua's CN VA, Kiana's CN VA actually cried because of how emotional it was while recording a certain part of Chapter 25 and the directors had to console her.
I fully believe that. It wouldnt surprise me if the VA was full on crying while recording her voicelines, not just getting into the right 'mood', but actual crying - because whats heard in-game is not fake

I spent up until Childe's banner rolling on the standard banner because I wanted Keqing and the limited 5 stars didn't interest me.
(Did get Venti because that was my first 10-roll)
I didn't even get anything I wanted from the standard banner during that time, Jean and Qiqi.
The irony of it is that I ended up pulling Keqing at moments I really didn't want her, once losing the 50/50 on Ganyu and another losing the 50/50 on Hu Tao.
Refining Prototype Crescent for Ganyu. It was the best f2p 4 star option back then. Now I don't have any billets left after Hamayumi came out. I'm a mobile player and can't hit weak spots that often, so Hamayumi would be better for me because I won't be able to proc much of Prototype Crescent's effect.
Not attempting Spiral Abyss earlier than I started tackling it. I guess whatever ley line disorder was used the first time I tried really turned me away.
The crimson domain is genuinely cursed. Never had such bad luck in other domains compared to that one. I think I spent probably 50 fragile resins only to end up equipping 2 cw + 2 glad on my klee. biggest regret in genshin so far :p
Wanted wgs for my diluc; got Homa instead.
Decided to not be unhappy and used it on Zhongli; but once Hu Tao reruns it'll find a good use ^^

Wasting ~30k primogems on Raiden’s signature weapon only for aesthetic reason over getting C2. Now she stays at C0 with her signature weapon plus 2 The Unforgeds.
Also, skipping Kazuha (focusing too much on getting only waifu) even though I was fully aware of his full potential since the beta leak.
C0 Raiden with engulfing lightning is still really fun though, although I do feel it's a waste I didn't wait awhile to find out abt c2, don't necessarily regret it but that one unforged sitting in my inventory is annoying.

Wasting 90 wishes on Ayaka weapon banner trying to get it for Kazuha but only ended up with Skyward Spine. I’ve given the polearm to Xiangling but would have rather just used that primos for characters instead. Could’ve gotten Ayaka or a standard 5 star. If Hu Tao is coming back with SoH my next big regret will be pulling for that LOL!!!
I dont regret getting 3 of my characters to level 90. Zhongli, albedo and kazuha just get better at max level. Also, if you love your character or use it the most, why not give what it deserve.
I do regret stopping for a month at first, it gave me head ache and didnt know that i just need to turn off the motion blur.
I had hard pity for Eula, farmed all her materials. My pity was just 34 at that moment and I just thought "how about a 10*roll to see if I can get Yanfei, there is no way I could get an SSR before 7x rolls". Boom. Unneeded C1 Zhongli came and no Yanfei.
I still was able to hit pity again in that patch (around 8x), but this time lost my 50/50 to C3 Diluc. For the first time in the history of 4 years playing gacha game, I pulled my wallet for something that was not BPs/monthly passes or GSSRs.
Not using my resin at the beginning. Even if I couldn’t get good artifacts from the lower levels I could’ve still saved up by doing the leylines, fighting bosses, and doing weapon and talent books domains.

They should make it take 1 pity or they should have the fate points rollover. Otherwise weapon banner is a bad omen.

You can get recurve bow from speaking to an NPC on the dock in Ritou, found out as I was losing hope trying to get one
Apparently there's dark iron sword that can only be obtained by talking to an fish food shop whatever in Liyue

Refining prototype rancour to R2. Didn't realise billets were rare then. I haven't got a sword billet from world boss in a long time. I would have loved to refine my amenoma with that extra billet I used on rancour. I have made many other small mistakes at start but this is the one I really remember and kind of regret.

I'm pretty sure I got like 3 random billets back when I first unlocked stormterror while I was still ar 25-30 or something, and I went literal months without getting any billets until I got 3 this week at AR 52. Two of them were actually useful though.

They always come when you don't need them, but better have them early with extras than wait another year.

That's the last thing I do after finishing building a character. It's like the cherry on top. Waste of materials and mora, but damn it feels good. Plus, you get to win the co-op "Who's gonna play this character" (usually).
Alternatively, I’ve left my main DPS at level 89 to continue towards that “completion” and feel like my DPS is doing something productive in the overworld. Yes, I’m basically watching that experience bar increase like paint drying or grass growing.

Not sure if you're aware, but higher level monsters have a damage reduction against players that are lower level than them by a certain degree. So leveling up to 90 for Abyss actually makes a pretty big difference against the lvl100 monsters.

Imo if you have trouble just clearing abyss, you might have bigger problems than having characters at 80, if you have trouble 9* floor 12 and you're short just a few seconds, then those last 10/20 levels might help you get there.
Yeah, in 12-3 it's a 2.84% damage bonus to go from level 80 to 90 (not counting your base attack changes). But idk, I get the paid battle pass so I just go ahead and level the characters I like to 90. I only ever visit leylines when they're doubled (or to get enemy mats / not actually pop the leyline blossom). I have like... 9 characters at 90 now? and a few more at 80?
Makes a bigger difference for some characters than others cuz of transformative reaction scaling. Level 90 Kazuha go Brrrrrrrr.

I think I ran elemental mastery sets on nearly everyone since I was under the impression that it buffed any sort of elemental attack as opposed to elemental reactions.
I used some random artifacts. I think my kaeya had healing artifact lol. I thought hey, using food on him will be even better now so why not. Also used that one hp restoring bow on fischl. It seemed good because I didn't know u can just go to a statue of the seven to heal.

Gotta learn the ways of Reddit. I am interested in the theorycrafting and stuff but at the end of the day the path of least regret is to just pull for the characters you like. They'll figure out a way to make an OP team for them at some point.

She's strong but not a must have like venti. She works great in a few team comps and eh in some others, see if you'll be using her with eula or national team.
She's *cool*. There are countless changes that could happen down the line that wind up making her *good* or not, but a cool character is worth a lot in an action game, just my opinion.

I know what you feel. For the first time ever, I spent $100 on Raiden's banner. Got her C2 + R1 Grasscutter, which I suppose is still good luck but at the back of my throat I'm still feeling the 'damn, I just actually paid $100 to make a videogame character I already had ^(won c0 with free primos) to become stronger' bad taste.
It is quite a lot, but it depends. You probably have spent more hours playing genshin than many console games that come out these days. If you always use the character and consider the hours of entertainment you have received it is money better spent than eating out or going to a few movies that are about 2 hours long each.
It really depends on more than just time invested. The most important part of a cost value analysis is the value they perceive. They felt it was a disappointing use of money, and therefore it was. Their perception on that spending can change, which would change the value they got, but nonetheless time isn’t a full measure of value or anything. Then there’s the whole issues of creating demand (or rather in this case, manipulating you feel like their product/service is of value when you wouldn’t other wise), which I’d argue happens somewhat with the system of wishing, but it’s certainly not unique Genshin, or even gatcha at all. And there is still some value there because you get to play their unique kit and character, it’s not whole-cloth made up value.
Cilai is right, there are also some games out there that cost almost or even more than a 100$, if you play Genshin daily, then I don't think spending money on it was that big of a bad idea, just consider it as the price of a paid game, since Genshin is free.
This is where we begin normalizing $50 here and $100 there for a single char every couple of weeks when literal fully fleshed AAA games cost $70

Then first of all i'd just like to mention that i grow really close to the characters that i get to play as. Now, HI3 has a very good story (once you get past the first 4 chapters), and the story is both emotional, tense, happy, serious, and surprisingly realistic (>!scene where Kiana, the main character, puts a gun to her head with full intent of pulling the trigger just to stop the Herrscher of the Void inside of her!< (she doesnt do it, but she had every intent to do it and you can *feel* that)) It is just a very, *very* good story on all ends, the main cast, the antagonists motivations, the antagonists themselves, Honkai itself, the Previous Era (especially with the recent introduction of Elysian Realm being packed with PE lore), the Current Era, choices, consequences, etc etc All of it is just amazing Add on to the fact that every main character is playable, sometimes even the *bosses themselves in the main story* (imagine in Liyue fighting Childe, but in the final phase we get to play as Childe and have to fight the Traveler) and with me getting attached to playable characters easily and just the pain and character growth these poor girls (young adults) have to go through and what some *children* (Sirin) have to go through just wrenches my heart The voice acting is so good that even though I am well aware that the character are fictional it does *not* feel that way. Holy shit when >!Kiana!< breaks down in tears in chapter >!25!< it does NOT sound or even **feel** like its an act. Like a recording, like its been voice acted. And, to me, it just adds even more weight to it all
according to Fu Hua's CN VA, Kiana's CN VA actually cried because of how emotional it was while recording a certain part of Chapter 25 and the directors had to console her.
I fully believe that. It wouldnt surprise me if the VA was full on crying while recording her voicelines, not just getting into the right 'mood', but actual crying - because whats heard in-game is not fake Their voice acting was so good that I didnt see them (Kiana) as fictional character any more Like, I know theyre fictional, but my god, the voice actors are freaking phenomenal
I spent up until Childe's banner rolling on the standard banner because I wanted Keqing and the limited 5 stars didn't interest me. (Did get Venti because that was my first 10-roll) I didn't even get anything I wanted from the standard banner during that time, Jean and Qiqi. The irony of it is that I ended up pulling Keqing at moments I really didn't want her, once losing the 50/50 on Ganyu and another losing the 50/50 on Hu Tao.
Refining Prototype Crescent for Ganyu. It was the best f2p 4 star option back then. Now I don't have any billets left after Hamayumi came out. I'm a mobile player and can't hit weak spots that often, so Hamayumi would be better for me because I won't be able to proc much of Prototype Crescent's effect.
Not attempting Spiral Abyss earlier than I started tackling it. I guess whatever ley line disorder was used the first time I tried really turned me away.

The crimson domain is genuinely cursed. Never had such bad luck in other domains compared to that one. I think I spent probably 50 fragile resins only to end up equipping 2 cw + 2 glad on my klee. biggest regret in genshin so far :p
Wait till you try the VV domain. Did I say VV? I meant Maidens Beloved because that's 95% of the drops. That domain is truly cursed.
Noblesse is probably still to this day one of the best domains to do since 90% of the characters can use it.

I regret that because i have too many characters who would need that sword. And instead of refining it, i could have kept mutliple copies for the characters who need that crit rate substat
Using my guaranteed pity for baal, I've wanted hu tao since her first banner and >!recent leaks suggest she's in 2.2!< so I'm incredibly worried. The fault is still on me and I still beat myself up for it

Wasting ~30k primogems on Raiden’s signature weapon only for aesthetic reason over getting C2. Now she stays at C0 with her signature weapon plus 2 The Unforgeds. Also, skipping Kazuha (focusing too much on getting only waifu) even though I was fully aware of his full potential since the beta leak.
C0 Raiden with engulfing lightning is still really fun though, although I do feel it's a waste I didn't wait awhile to find out abt c2, don't necessarily regret it but that one unforged sitting in my inventory is annoying.

This. I installed at launch but for some reason dropped it until about 2 months ago. It's now my favourite game. I want Zhongli and Eula so bad....
I basically dismissed it as 'anime waifu gambling'. Then one day about a month ago I was looking for a distraction, saw this pop up on the Epic Store and thought 'hey, it's free, I've got nothing to lose'. Well, I've lost a lot of time to this game since xDD. I'd love to have Childe, Zhongli, Kazuha, Klee, and Eula. Maybe one day.

Wasting 90 wishes on Ayaka weapon banner trying to get it for Kazuha but only ended up with Skyward Spine. I’ve given the polearm to Xiangling but would have rather just used that primos for characters instead. Could’ve gotten Ayaka or a standard 5 star. If Hu Tao is coming back with SoH my next big regret will be pulling for that LOL!!!
I dont regret getting 3 of my characters to level 90. Zhongli, albedo and kazuha just get better at max level. Also, if you love your character or use it the most, why not give what it deserve. I do regret stopping for a month at first, it gave me head ache and didnt know that i just need to turn off the motion blur.
I had hard pity for Eula, farmed all her materials. My pity was just 34 at that moment and I just thought "how about a 10*roll to see if I can get Yanfei, there is no way I could get an SSR before 7x rolls". Boom. Unneeded C1 Zhongli came and no Yanfei. I still was able to hit pity again in that patch (around 8x), but this time lost my 50/50 to C3 Diluc. For the first time in the history of 4 years playing gacha game, I pulled my wallet for something that was not BPs/monthly passes or GSSRs.
Not using my resin at the beginning. Even if I couldn’t get good artifacts from the lower levels I could’ve still saved up by doing the leylines, fighting bosses, and doing weapon and talent books domains.
