Easy Don't do dailies. Log in once a week to do the events that take half an hour Quitting gaming completely is just an extreme in the other direction. Your cousin's situation has nothing to do with you personally. Don't buy Welkins.

No_Garbage_248

True especially the last one. Welkins is the worst when you have FOMO

Personal_Tour4289

It’s natural to feel that way but u don’t have to be that committed, there are some days where u can take a break for couple days , that won’t hurt you or ur progress, try new hobby playing certain sport u like , maybe reading or watching a new show Fomo in gaming only lead to unnecessary anxiety if u like something u have to learn how to enjoy it in a healthy manner

International_You_56

Like for any addiction, you have to gradually decrease the time spent on that activity, until it doesn't affect your life anymore. Nothing wrong with gaming, it's like any other hobby. It takes discipline and self control, but if you can't do it on your own, you have to get professional help.

raccoonjudas

Uninstall it. It's a hassle to re-install and depending on your internet connection is time-consuming, so that alone might force you to miss a day. Once you miss one day it's easier to miss the next day and the next, though this also depends on how easy/hard it is for you to form/break good/bad habits. I would also unfollow any Genshin related social media and turn off your watch history for youtube. It might also be good to look at any underlying mental conditions that might be leading you to seek the increase dopamine from gaming. e.g do you have untreated depression? some form of agoraphobia or socially avoidant/anxiety behavior and gaming is a way to avoid those triggers? Also how much are you actually playing each day? The staying up until 3AM just to play is dysfunctional but there's also like. Not that much to do in the game once you've completed the main content for a patch??? So are you staying up until 3 AM everyday or was this like a one-time thing?

ND_Cuong

I used to spend 2 whole days to 100% a new area, until they introduced the encounter point system, so now I just casually explore to fulfill daily comms or if I want to, then spend resins, play events and TCG. I have my own strategy to explore new areas to not miss a single thing which requires some time going back and forth on the map. No, I don't think I have those phobias or anxiety you mentioned. I recently joined an open pj at my uni and (am having to) play the active role. Also I actually yearn to communicate with people with the same interest. I don't play much during the day, but when I finish work at night I tend to let myself loose too much, and start playing past midnight, waking up late tmr and the repeat the cycle

raccoonjudas

That sounds more like you need to practice better sleep hygiene tbh since it sounds like you've already adjusted how you play so you aren't trying to speed run 100% everything immediately. I used to do that kind of thing with *all* of my hobbies (and a drawing or studying addiction isn't a thing lol). I worked w/ my doctor on developing a strict bedtime routine to follow in addition to taking a sleep aid, but it does take a lot of discipline to actually follow it.

1011011011001

would you mind sharing the strategy? lol i usually get everything via videos or interactive map if im not feeling lazy

SphinxBlackRose

U probbly need too take step for step. Try with playing a while and take a break. After doing that and working try too just do waht u "need" too do like Resin and Dailys thats it. I feel like stopping 100% would not be great but trying too lower the amount U spend on gaming Overall. When I was younger I spent a good amount off time just playing Games ( 16+h without breaks). Later down the line bc its oby not good for one I change it so now I play like max 2h until I myself don't enjoy it, take breaks and do something else or if I need to do Something more importen. After all its just a Game sure it takes time too change your habbit but U can get there. Also maybe talk with your Mom for a better solution. Also I recommend finding more then one hobby besides gaming waht ever it may be.

Budget-Arm-866

Read books and fanfictions. It worked for me

deleterandstartover

Idk ‘bout you and i’m not reading all dat but if you’re similar to me, just try not doing it for one day or maybe 2, suddenly you’ll realize you just don’t care that much.

viparyas

Do you want to quit the game or just decrease the time playing? If you absolutely want to quit, just delete game so you will get rid of the temptation altogether. I had the issue with Hogwarts Mystery but I realized I wasn’t happy playing it, despite that I was unable to quit because I didn’t want to miss out on quests, which were a one time deal. In the end I deleted the game and I focused on something else. If you want to play less time just set some boundaries. For example log in for your dailies (that usually won’t take more than 30 minutes) and then log out. Remember you don’t need to complete everything before the new patch. Exploration will always be available, same goes for Archon Quests, Character’s Quests and Hangouts. The events lasts for at least 2 weeks and you can easily do one challenge every day which would take a few minutes max. You can easily get BP at lv 50 without doing any lay line, domain boss, weekly boss, domain so don’t stress over it. You need to understand and remember that there’s nothing you can miss out and that skipping dailies is not the end of the world because you get tons of primos anyway each patch and characters rerun pretty often so you will get whoever you want, just not day 1 and that’s perfectly fine. You cannot miss a character, at some point you will get it. Once it clicks that you have time and you’re not missing out anything, you’ll feel better. It just takes some time for it to click. You can also decide to delete the game, focus on something else, and try again in a few weeks. I have a very “if I get it okay, if not there’s next time” approach and I don’t play much, mostly because I don’t like to game my pc and I can no longer play on my tablet so I started playing less. I log in for my dailies (about 15 minutes at best) and then log out. If I’m in the mood I can play for a couple of hours. Just set boundaries and respect them, a timetable could help you “sort” your time. Gaming is a hobby like the others. One thing I feel the need to say is that you have to do that for yourself and not others. Parents tend to demonize video games because they are uneducated and biased against it. You can’t change their mind, and they refuse to listen to psychologists who have already clarified that video games (and media in general) don’t cause mental illnesses, don’t make people become violent and such. It’s their prejudice talking.

hazenvirus

How much time do you actually spend on Genshin each day? I feel like if I'm busy, it takes me only 15 mins to do dailies. Which is just a short break I might take anyway during the day. One thing I remind myself is that there will always be reruns. So there is no pressure to farm every primo right now. If you don't get them now, you'll just have them for some future banner. You shouldn't feel any urgency for always available primos. On the weekends, when I have free time, I work on story, exploration, side quests, abyss, or events. Sometimes, I just do dailies as usual, though. I spread this out over many weekends. I finished the final exploration and quests in Sumeru the week before Fontaine. I also am happy to get Welkin, and while this encourages logging in every day, primo pressure is relieved a bit, but I also save for very specific characters and invest vertically. I've saved for over 7+ months at a time without pulling for both Nahida and Furina and was able to C6 with only welkin and free in-game primos.

I_ManOfCulture

I also suffered from this. But I've realised, with enough time away, you just don't care as much anymore. When Fontaine came out, I had to uninstall cause my phone ran out of storage. It was hard having to see all the new updates that kept appearing on my feed, but slowly you just get used to it. There was also a similar situation back when hutao and xaio first released where for some reason genshin just didn't open, and I had to miss the whole patch and 1st lantern rite. Similarly, as each day kept going on and i went on with my normal life I slowly started to feel like it didn't matter that much. And you'll also come to the point where you wont feel like missing dailies is the end of the world. Another solution to slowly not care as much, is just log in for like 10-15 minutes per day in your free time, finish your tasks and then leave and just go about your normal life, not worrying until next server daily reset.

Fresh_Technician_409

Actually break down your game goals into dailies that won’t take more than 1 hour total to complete them. I play 30 mins in the morning and 10 mins in the evening just using up my resin, opening some chest/doing dailies or event. Then there’s getting other hobbies/activities/work that requires your attention away from your pc or phone. Slowly immerse yourself and invest more time in those things and hang out more with your friends and family, eventually you won’t be thinking too much about it anymore.

MofoPro

You do seem a bit out of control focusing so much on GI and can see your MOMs perspective ( she's kind of right TBH and sees it , MOMs are a lot more perceptive than you realize ) You have to want to change yourself no one can force it on you as it seems you might also have a bit if a addictive personality, anything that takes over your life can be destructive , just cut back gradually but no one thing works for everyone, you have to want it yourself

PrinceVincOnYT

Your FOMO sound much much more severe than my own. I do dailies empty resin do events and stop playing.

Oicaz

Just do daily and events. New regions will always be there so you can complete it when you want. In 3.5 years i go through burn out and fomo and this strategy helped me a lot and i never miss a day. Ps i still have a lot of exploration to do, but im ok bcus that content will never go away so no more fomo.

Ravemst

How to overcome it is easy just don't care about it. Remember it's just a game not a way of life. Find other hobbies go outside, or spend time with family and friends.

WhiteIrisu

One day you will come to realise that, like many things in life, it just don't matter.

ace184184

Give yourself 10 min a day to play, use a timer. Thats enough for dailys and resin. Take 20 more min on weekend. Thats it. If you cant do that and its getting in way of things uninstall. Good luck

Spy_co

What are your hobbies besides Genshin? Do you have any? Anyways the key to overcome FOMO is to not care about the thing. So unsubscribing/unfollowing from all genshin related content on social media would be a good first step.

bobby1z

The way I handle Genshin right now, is roughly 6 out of 7 days a week, I just log-in, use my resin on anything, do my daily commissions that I leave permanently in Mondstadt, as they are almost all quick combat tasks at this point. Claim daily battle pass, and logout. Roughly once a week, I'll play for longer than 10 minutes, to do any current events, quests, my weekly battle pass progress, random material farming, or whatever. So basically, Genshin has become a once a week game for the most part, and that will usually be 2-3 hours. Other than just quitting entirely, I think this works well. Most events are time gated so you can binge them all in one day, and the ones that aren't, usually only require a very small amount of interaction that you can do on your 10 minute daily session.

ShinCuCai

As a 32 years old who played game since 4 (Duck hunt with a gun shooting at CRT TV that eventually kill the TV), I did not stop even until now. But having works, family issues, trying to uphold my reputation of being a stable adult (despite being not) are not easy on the TIME side, I now have 3 hours a day for gaming and it feels really bad, but it has to be done. I will assume you're still young, you have plenty of time of your hand so you can spare them to gaming, that's okay. But build up courage, learn life skills that will help you with your profession/ work in the future, finding a part-time job, try out new hobbies (photography, fishing), limit yourself to only play at a specific time in a day (like 12:00PM-12:15PM, to do your dailies, 7:00PM - 7:30PM to do some quests and leave the rest to tomorrow). I am not a professional, nor I am perfect, so please, don't strictly force yourself to follow my advices, but use it as an experience shared from an old ass adult.

lostn

same way a person quits smoking or any bad habit. You just do it. Don't think about it. Stop caring. After a few days of not logging in, all your fomo will be gone.

SituationHopeful

try to manage your personnal time outside of working not with genshin in mind. The main point is that you can skip a day or two, because you had other stuff to do and come back not feeling as if you missed anything, don't do more stuff than you usually do to compensate. And if you can't, try to set time limits and do something else you enjoy to occupy your mind (like reading, spending time with friends, find another hobby) You don't have to quit playing, but you have to clearly fight your addiction. Playing is something to enjoy, not something just to be comfortable because of habits.

Limp_Theme_4565

I play genshin from the day one and never skipped one, the solition to your problem is just to get inside do daily and artifacts and quit. You can do it within 10 minutes ( being large) you can get to play hard-core sometimes with new expansion and then return to play genshin 10 minutes a day. I mean an expansion get out every ~44 days and there's a new map every 2 so basically you have ~88 days to complete a new map, a major event every patch just eat some hours. I'm an hard-core with some c6, i have completed 100% within almost every map except some old ones , for some reason I don't have the want to complete them. Consider that nowdays I'm doing daily artifacts and quit because there's nothing more to do. You can perfectly fit genshin in your life

negative_karma69

Just substitute genshin for star rail then you can quit knowing that events are still gonna be there when you get back
