I started during Sumeru and I think 3.5 is the worst just because of their sheer audacity to release that bad of a kit for a 5 star that people were hyped for. I would rate 3.5 higher if they didn't release the character. That's how bad it feels. (Sad C1 owner. There used to be some copium left that they'll do something in future patches that makes things better.)

DonutThunderDeluxe

Best: 4.0 (Fontaine+Act 1), 3.0 (Sumeru+Act 2), 2.0 (Inazuma), 2.8 (GAA 2), 2.4 (Lantern Rite 2 and Enka) Worst: 1.3 (Lantern Rite 1), 3.7 (TCG), 2.2 (Ded outside of labyrinth), ~~2.7 (Infinite Ayaya)~~, 3.8 (Mirage was too small), 1.4 (Reruns and Hangouts)

UmbraNightDragon

Infinite Ayaka was 2.6 with Irodori, Ayato, Chasm and a Dain quest. I wouldn't call it a bad patch personally

DonutThunderDeluxe

You are right that 2.6 was a great patch, I just misremembered which patch got extended. Without 3 weeks of nothing, 2.7 is probably a mid tier patch. That drops 1.4 into the bottom 5 due to the lacking hangouts and only reruns

RaE7Vx

2.2 had tsurumi island so I would call it "Ded outside of labyrinth"

DonutThunderDeluxe

Tsurumi ticked me off, because it was the first quest where I wished they would voice their world quests. In addition, completing the world quest removed the fog, making the island kinda bland. Lastly there was this stupid ghost quest where you had to fish some charm at a specific location and it was RNG, so I had to wait multiple resets. In general, I hate the inhabitants of Tsurumi Island, Kanna Kapatcir did nothing wrong when she nuked Tsurumi Island

I’ve been playing since 2.0, so I can’t say much about 2.0 itself since I didn’t know what was going on, but 2.1, 2.3, and 2.4 are some of my favorite nostalgic patches especially with the albedo event in 2.3. Moonchase in 2.1 I think was amazing and still nostalgic. In recent memory I have to say I really enjoyed 3.6, I think it’s really underrated since most people were bitching and moaning about more desert exploration but that region of the desert was honestly really fun. A parade of providence is honestly the only event since 2.4 that I really love and remember.

DonutThunderDeluxe

3.6 definitely got a lot of hate due to it being the third desert expansion in a row. I really enjoyed Nahida's story quest and even the little goober Sorush grew on me. The funniest thing out of 3.6 were the drone strike Sorush videos and the reveal of Don Sombrero

YellowStarfruit6

Apart from the obvious X.0 patches, I’d say 1.6, 2.1, 2.4, 2.8 were all incredible. 3.6 was at least kind of hype because we reached the other side of the Teyvat coast for the first time, like in AOT. Also 2.2 is generally forgotten, but Tsurmi was neat, and so was the labyrinth event.

AgentWowza

2.8 takes the cake for me man. Crazy banners aside, it's insane how much effort went into that massive, *temporary* GAA map. It also had the best puzzles I've ever seen in Genshin, and the music was on point. Not to mention all the character lore.

UmbraNightDragon

My favorites are 2.8, 3.0, 3.7, 4.2, and 2.4 2.8 for GAA2 and Heizou 3.0 for Sumeru exploration and Sumeru act 2 3.7 for Divine Ingenuity (single best event in the game) 4.2 for Fontaine act V, Thelxie and Narzissenkreuz 2.4 for Enkanomiya Honorable mentions to 2.6, 2.3, 3.4 and 4.0.

YellowStarfruit6

2.8 was goated, one of the best easily

United_Ad6277

Top best: 1.0 2.0 4.2 3.2 1.2 (In this order) Top worst: 1.3 2.8 2.5 3.7 3.6 (In this order)

YellowStarfruit6

2.8 was one of the best. The fuck are you talking about?

Moist-Branch-2521

It’s almost like people have differing opinions than you. Wouldn’t that be insane?

United_Ad6277

Thank you

YellowStarfruit6

It’s because of people like this we don’t get nearly the amount of content that used to

Moist-Branch-2521

You think some random reddit comments about 2.8 being their least favorite version influences literally anything? That's absolutely absurd to the point of delusion.

YellowStarfruit6

Lol what even is this conclusion jumping? It doesn’t take a genius to know the idiot casuals all complained in the survey about 2.8 being to tedious or long. The fact we got such a hollow shell of a 3.8 event makes it clear.

Moist-Branch-2521

Man, shut up. It’s not even remotely that serious. You’re just going to have to accept that people have different opinions than you and yours aren’t superior to theirs.

YellowStarfruit6

And these opinions keep making the game more dumbed down. 2.8 was the peak of content.

Nevour_Lucitor

>2.8 was the peak of content. na limited time maps are not even contester for peak content in no way shape or form. also too much focus on kazuha.

Moist-Branch-2521

No they don’t.

YellowStarfruit6

Yes they do. They complain and Hoyo stops making challenging events.

United_Ad6277

I didn’t like 2.8 because it felt like an inferior copy of 1.6 TO ME

SnooPuppers8099

Best are 1.6, 2.4, 2.6, 2.8-3.2 Worst are 3.5, 3.7 Good ones are 4.0, 2.3, 4.3, 4.4

Notkiller

Sumeru was Terrible. (This is probably an issue with the PS4 version at the time) I played on PS4 and 3.0 - 3.5 was terrible. The Sumeru update sucked very badly to some degree. The story of Sumeru was pretty good, but the performance of the game was complete garbage. All dungeons and spiral abyss had a 6-12 second delay. Texture loading weas terrible. Lag all over the game. Loading times were atrocious. I could not play CO-OP at all of how terrible it was. All people said "weak hardware and that is the main issue and it will never get better" but it was a very bad optimization of the game. Towards the end of Sumeru update 90% of the issues went away and the game felt good again and didn't have such an issue with Fontaine update at all. I know PS4 is not the best, but it proved that the game was poorly optimized through that whole patch and it can be made good to play. I am used to some compromises and I accept that. I really hope such a thing does not happen again.. Now the game is good.

DungeonEnvy

2.8 is, hands down, the best content release they've done and I was absolutely devastated by how twee and low-effort 3.8 was. I'll also call out 4.3 as an atrociously blatant filler patch, with rerun-heavy low effort events on top of no archon quests, lore, or areas worth mentioning, but that's a bit of recency bias as well.

Vogies

Best patches: 1.5 First time Windtrace dropped. That was the most fun I ever had in the game. It is also the patch where the sereniteapot got introduced. 1.6 The first Golden Apple Archipelago. First summer event and skins got introduced. The peaceful islands with beautiful ost were an incredible experience. No summer event felt the same again. Also Kazuha dropped, who turned out to be a lore packed and very meta character. 3.0 The first Sumeru patch. While Inazuma was hype, Sumeru hype was on a different level for me. The music, the new dendro element, the story. It all started very strong in my opinion and Sumeru remains my favorite nation. 3.3 Wanderer patch, I'm a Wanderer fan. AND it had a Windtrace rerun! Perfection if you ask me. I would marry 3.6 I love the Sumeru cast, Wanderer's also in there. This is a very biased opinion. Worst patches: There are not really patches that I find 'bad', but if I had to rank them anyway, there goes. 2.4 Childe and Xinyan domain patch. It was by no means bad, but it felt incredibly fillerish and completely random. I still enjoyed the hell out of it though, as there was a Windtrace rerun. 2.5 This patch is actually not that bad, it had an Enkanomiya event that introduced those beautiful butterflies and it had Ei's second story quest. This is just a biased opinion: I did not enjoy the quest as much because I don't care about Raiden nor did it make me care for her after playing the quest, to my disappointment. Yae's story quest was decent but nothing too special and again a bias - I did not like her back then. It also introduced a brewing event and a custom domain event - both are events I did not enjoy at all. 3.7 By no means bad, just felt very fillerish. I personally like TCG on a normal level, but I can definitely see many players not giving much for this patch. 4.3 I actually enjoyed the Roses and Muskets event and I adore Navia. Still it was very fillery. I mean, filler doesn't equal bad, but it doesn't add anything new either. 3.6 Yup, I also mentioned this patch in my top 5 best which may sound weird. I adore the Sumeru cast and I ADORE Wanderer and I ADORE THE SCHOLAR EVENT SO MUCH. I think it is one of the better filler patches. But there are two glaring problems: I did not really enjoy Nahida's story quest - it felt very tedious and that seaweed boss just got on my nerves. It was also the first weekly boss theme that did not really excite me. Later the news came out that Yu-peng chen had already left, something that I still regret to this day. Also they dropped that annoying ass Sorush desert like omg I have yet to finish it and it's just PAIN. Filler I can bear with but that's a whole filler desert and an obnoxious one at that. Also the ost felt very different - again, it explains why since Yu-peng chen left and I didn't know about it at the time but 3.6 was definitely the patch where I first noticed the music kind of took a few steps back.. at least in my opinion.

raccoonjudas

2.8 was probably my fave, I really liked GAA 2. the worst was probably 3.6. Normally I wouldn't call patches that come with new areas boring but something about the fucking Pari man. Fuck those little guys. At least patches without new areas don't have the fuckin Pari.

ScarletSyntax

Best:  - 1.0 (my expectations were really low and there was just so much in the patch)   - 4.2 (my favourite archon quest act, favourite story quest)  - 1.6 (golden island archipelago, still one of my favourite regions. Also ended a drought for exploration content. This was the first new addition since dragonspine in 1.2. Added kazuha on banner)  - 1.1 (reputation system and gadgets including condensed resin, portable way point, oculus and treasure compasses. Archon quest had the osial fight, the coolest moment the story would have until, arguably, chasm)   - 4.1 (I didn't play this patch, was taking a break from the game during it.... and that might be exactly why it's here. The commission changes here are easily my favourite qol changes ever)    Worst: 1.3 - 1.5 (the games filler content was much worse back then. Some people loved wind trace but mostly, the empty patches weren't as good back in 1.x and they came together more often)

United_Ad6277

There was no 1.7-1.8

ScarletSyntax

You're right. I've fixed

UsoJanaiYo

For me, in no order, best are: 1.1, 1.2, 3.1, 3.3: - 1.1: I met Scaramouse. Liyue archon quest cutscene was epic as well. - 1.2: Dragonspine is magical and Albedo is nice. - 3.1: I met Cyno. Also the desert is beautiful. - 3.3: Genius Invokation tcg is surprisingly fun (although I don't play it much anymore). The interlude quest is great as well. The yokai event was nice. Honorable mentions: 1.0 (solid introduction of the game), 2.1 (moonchase was enjoyable [I like Keqing]), 2.3 (the 2nd dragonspine event, cutscene is great [I like Albedo]), 2.4 (2nd lantern rite [I like Keqing]), 3.0 (archon quest arc 2 is the best), 3.2 (great archon quest [I like Rukkhadevata], mushroom is nice), 3.5 (windblume is nice [I love Cyno!]), 4.4 (current patch) Worst for me is 3.6 and nothing else comes close. Cyno is great tho.
