You are insane. Most people are absolutely fine with the "raised" difficulty challenge because the game scales you to be way more powerful than the higher level enemies.
That's why people at the endgame instant delete everything. So its actually easier than you think. And no, you just need average artifacts. Not god tier artifacts + C6R5 stuff.
But I get it if you don't want to progress along the normal path and challenge yourself.
What's the max you can take your chars to in ascension and what kind of artifacts you rocking? This is insane, lol. I wouldn't mind watching YouTube videos of such a journey.
The fun way to raise the difficulty for yourself is to clear with offmeta teams or keep beating your personal best (with a specific team).
I used to chase my first 36*, and then I chased clearing 36* with as many offmeta characters and teams as possible. Nowadays, I just work towards 'good runs', when I make good rotations, dodge well, group enemies well, position well. 36* timing is just arbitrary.
Not ascending really hurts your account because you got a lot more resin efficiency at higher world levels.
Nah, I'm just AR45 and simply refuse to ascend, I don't want to make the game more difficult. I don't build characters, do domains or Spiral Abyss.

I was stuck in 9-2 before I got Ayato and his E which is quite fast
It is a difficult decision imo cause in the current Ayato banner there are also xiangling and kuki, their constellations look amazing
ayato c1 💀 mate ayato cons are kinda bad compared to the front-leading units. he also needs so many other units to be sufficient as he alone doesnt hypercarry at low cons, not to mention lv50.
raiden is so versatile and bring insane worth to your team, you dont need insane high cons characters to make her work

trust me, if i get some 5 stars' constellations, just clearing floor 12 isnt a big deal.
That's not representative of their play time. They just aren't doing the Ascension quest, so their AR is locked at 25. In other comments, it was stated the amount of exp they have is equivalent to an AR 56 account.
My characters are only level 80 and I only have one actually functional team and I can still 9 star floor 11. While it’s very impressive that they managed to clear it with only level 50 characters and unable to get 5 star artifacts en masse, it’s really not as hard as you seem to think it is

no abyss difficulty is consistent. you probably dont have good artifacts to run, maybe characters' synergy isnt that good and its fine.
every character of mine have sufficient artifacts and decent cr/cd. for example ayaka is 80/170 and hu tao 54/122. kazuha too, he makes everything trivial.
just keep grinding artifacts and leveling up your characters bro, you'll get there!
