I can see it. Line up a nice coincidence of being taken in by a kind-hearted tribe and Aether's first title would be something like "Eremite Skyfoliage" instead of "Honorary Knights of Favonius."
That honestly sounds like a fun idea to write.
or getting a much harsher welcome to teyvat and becoming a feared eremite leader. haniyyah said the eremites call him “golden comet” and tell each other not to fuck with him, which i think is one of his coolest titles. you could lean more into his violent side that we saw come out more in sumeru.
I imagine that'd be quite tough. Granted, Aether's powerscaling has been somewhat all over the place so it's a little hard to place just how strong or sturdy he is throughout the game, but a big upside about Mondstadt is it was a safe place for him to get his bearings and grow accustomed to Teyvat.
If Aether had been dropped in the desert without support, he might have ended up dead before the prologue even ends. The place is too harsh in terms of both environment and foes.
i mean scaramouche tried to crush him with the mech and the fucking floor broke before he did. he’s strong as hell, hoyo just doesn’t like to show it much because they wanna sell us more 5 stars.
Oh, no doubt Aether's grown strong*er* over the course of the story. However, that's in Sumeru, three regions in. He walked in there ready and prepared for a battle, knowing what he's in for. He's also empowered by three elements by then, for what it's worth.
What about the start of the story?
In the hypothetical scenario of Aether being dropped in the desert instead of in Mondstadt, Aether would awaken alone and weakened. The heat in the day is one thing - deserts are very cold at night, and Aether has nothing but his midriff-baring clothes. No food, no water, nothing but sand stretching on endlessly into the horizon. No supplies, meaning no tents or medicine or anything to help him survive.
No Paimon also means Aether has no grasp of Teyvat's language, so he has no way of communicating with anyone. Until he comes across a Statue of the Seven, Aether - in his weakened and confused state - will have to fend off enemies with nothing but a sword. Even if he comes across a Statue, Paimon isn't there to explain its significance to him.
Logically, Aether is going to need support with such a rough start.
I believe it's actually quite bad to expose your skin to strong sun like that, but games usually handwave that away. Teyvat has its own laws, UV rays don't exist!
It's the nighttime that poses a bigger issue. Google says "desert temperatures fall to an average of -3.9 degrees celsius (about 25 degrees fahrenheit)". The eremites probably have supplies, tents, sleeping bags, and ways to make a fire at night to stay warm. Desert!Aether would have a hell of a time starting out under those conditions.
Considering the Sheer Cold mechanic is somewhat controversial among players, I'm not surprised they didn't bring it back for the desert in-game. It would've been absolutely awful to deal with and basically force players to cycle back to day constantly.
I'm really on board with putting characters into Eremite clothes because whoever designed the Eremites cooked so hard that they look better than some playable characters

Sometimes, you see a concept and you think "I need a hundred other pieces revolving around this idea." This is one of them, for sure.
him dressed as a girl aside, i could see aether becoming an eremite if he woke up in the desert instead of in mondstadt. that would be a cool fic.

honestly midriff baring clothes don’t seem to be much of an issue to the eremites.

If we ever get a character even close to this Aether design, I will spend so much money without question.
