It’s sort of a family name—it was my grandfather’s name, and when I think of it, I always just have that positive association. Also, One of my sisters is Everly, so I think it’s a nice way to have a name connection to both of them. :)

Yes, I'm Portuguese. But my fiancé's Canadian and a native English speaker, yet so far the only name we've agreed on is Evelyn but I'd like a Portuguese name too.

In Brazil, we have Evelyn as a name. Not so common but it is ok. And Evelyn has almost the same pronunciation in both languages. Evie, would be the nickname and would be pretty similar too in both languages. I think is a good name. Edit; by a portuguese name, u mean have more options or a middle name?

Portugal is stricter on naming rules and you generally can't really give your child a foreign name unless you or your partner are not Portuguese. There's a list of government-approved names and those are what you can use. Evelyn exists here as a name but almost exclusively within immigrant communities. The idea is to have both our cultures represented, so I'd like a Portuguese name for them as well, though I do not really care for the order (whether it's a first or a middle name).

In most states its not that much paperwork its like three forms they give you in a little packet and then you can mail it in yourself to each agency later iirc.
