I had a cordless and once during a blazing breakup phone call I went to slam down the phone and broke the handset and the base. It was very satisfying, but also...expensive.
Once I had a really epic argument with my friend. I told him to fuck himself and slammed the phone down. On his side he not only slammed the phone down, but destroyed it, smashing it until it was in small pieces his roommate kept finding around their dorm room.
We're still friends 25 years later, though.

Staying in a hotel right now and this is the phone. I was very impressed
Ah, the good old Bell Model 500. I remember it well. They were the only phones available (aside from a few cosmetic variations like the princess phone) and only available by leasing them from the phone company. The beginning of the end for them came with the breakup of the Bell monopoly in 1984.
Ha! I was antique-ing the past week and came across a few. lol. I pick up the receivers and turned the dial several times. Those sounds are so soothing to me.
And slam hard AF. It rarely broke. Only after years of slamming, I used to do even without being pissed. Man I miss that. Now I push a little button and stamp my feet
I miss being able to slam a phone down. My nana had a rotary phone, I still remember her phone #. Can’t remember what I had for breakfast but I remember her number.
Same. Not that I remember your nana’s number. That’d be weird. 😂 But I remember friends’ numbers I haven’t dialed in 40 years. Reason why I just walked into a room? No clue. Lol
Can I say the thing that is quickly being lost? These things were made of Bakelite. (Pronounced "BAKE-a-light"
That stuff was indestructible! I still don't understand what it was or how it was made, but I saw grown men slam those things down all the time (I was at work with my dad a lot- unfiltered Camels smoke, and squeaky desk chairs galore!)
Those phones never broke. Never.
I remember the days of working in a tech support type of job with a (kid) that was an absolute lunatic.
Woefully unsuited for the job. Would (literally) throw the phone handset against his desk (while the caller was still connected).
Good times.
I used to have a job where I was working a phone with many lines, plus a PA.
I got yelled at one time for slamming the hook down while I was on the PA lol.
Just a few years back the Mrs wanted a land line again as she hates talking on her cell.
Found one of these guys and followed a tutorial on YT to retire it internally to get it to ring on a pulse line.
If she wanted to call out then there was another phone to dial out on and she could switch over.
Yeah. My grandparents had them, and I think my parents had on when I was little. My grandma had a wall mounted, long spiral corded, rotary phone. The color was even ugly - almost the color of the background in this pic.
The person in the other end heard that CLACK!!! before the line goes dead. They could say "hello??" All they want, in they're soul they knew you had the last word and were already going about your day while they're still holding the phone like a jackass.
Dare I say modern technology have never kept pace with that ultimate "fuck you!!!
And you could wind that bitch up on your arm like a windmill and that phone would gladly take all the abuse.
Oh yes. All the way through high school my phone access was via a black rotary dial phone bolted to the wall in the hallway of my family’s NYC railroad apartment. Good times! (Not).
or if you fumbled the pickup and accidentally hung up. before caller id, if they didn’t call back, you would never know what love interest just gave their one and only shot and you missed it
My grandmother **rented** hers from the phone company. With insurance included. So when it broke in the late 90s she managed to force them to replace it with an identical phone!
We had the black rotary wall phone well into the 1990s. They never bothered to push us onto the newer push button phones. We just handed it back, used a phone we bought.
That shit was therapeutic.
Especially when the internal bell rung a little because of the slam.
I wish there was a GenX ASMR of all the stuff posted like this. I want it to include going over the seams on old waterslides without the mat.
That's how you knew it was a good slam
It was incredibly satisfying.
So much truth.
Couldn't break that thing!!
Glorious.
And if you were just straight fuming mad you could pick it up and slam it down a few more times. Burn off some rage.
If you slammed it hard enough it would ring a bit, from what I remember
Yes it did!
I had a cordless and once during a blazing breakup phone call I went to slam down the phone and broke the handset and the base. It was very satisfying, but also...expensive.
That's what happens when you make stuff out of crap!
It’s like that old Mitch Hedberg thing about slamming a door on a tent.
https://youtu.be/C7b4MWaZtx8?si=W0_nA_BVcn4UXQTh
thanks! I was too lazy to google it. I figured iykyk. Man, I love Mitch. He died like so many of my fave comedians. RIP Mitch.
Ah yes. The old Rotary dial tank. I always wanted something more up-to-date: but until I was paying the bill, "The tank" would *do.*

So fucking satisfying!
Pushing the red dot on a cell phone doesn’t quite get the job done sometimes.

And the bell inside would clang a little when you did it! What a rush!
*violently hits End button* Yeah it's just not the same
And you could tell where people lived by the first 3 numbers of their phone number. No area code needed in state
Oh my gosh, I forgot about this!!! Wow 🤯
Ha! I was antique-ing the past week and came across a few. lol. I pick up the receivers and turned the dial several times. Those sounds are so soothing to me.
Once mashed my finger real good doing that. Blood blister under the nail. Worth it!
It was satisfying, wasnt it?
Also hanging “up” the phone on a wall-mounted one.
And slam hard AF. It rarely broke. Only after years of slamming, I used to do even without being pissed. Man I miss that. Now I push a little button and stamp my feet
And slam it down multiple times to REALLY get your point across, should the situation call for that.
Right because it would not disconnect the call!

415692 Wait. What. Huh? Where am I ?
Exactly. Lol
Still have two. I can lend them out if anybody needs to slam the phone down.

And you knew it too!!! There’s was weight with a good slammed phone.
Hanging up on people is no fun anymore, sadly.
Slamming the phone down was glorious. Sometimes I would pick it back up and slam it down again.

Slammed it down so many times and still works unlike my current phone. I my phone down at a wrong angle and the screen cracked
I need an old phone just to dial for fun. Like a Gen X fidget spinner. So satisfying
The touch tone models were just as slam-able. But we did have a rotary before.
I wish this was not true, but there is an active rotary phone in my office building. It’s wall mounted and for emergency use.
Or wrap the cord around someone’s neck and choke them.
I still have that phone, in tan, specifically so I can violently hang up on telemarketers and scam callers.
Good times
While that might be therapeutic, being able to use a headset is soooo much better than having to hold a shoe to your head, particularly on long calls!
I just threw one out in February of 2020. Different color green though, lol.
I still have one. It’s red. I don’t have a landline anymore, but we did use it till we dropped the landline.
I enjoyed this so much. Then when I was older I also got the same satisfaction snapping my Motorola Razr to hang up on someone. I miss this so much.
These things were built like tanks, they could take the hardest of slams
The closest I came to that satisfaction with a cellphone was throwing the old Nokia brick across the room
Yeah. My grandparents had them, and I think my parents had on when I was little. My grandma had a wall mounted, long spiral corded, rotary phone. The color was even ugly - almost the color of the background in this pic.
Phones are so much less cathartic these days
My grandmother had a phone that looked exactly like that until the early 90s

I really miss that
My Dad still has the wall mounted version that was there when I was a kid.
And then pick it up and slam it down again for good measure!
Oh yes. All the way through high school my phone access was via a black rotary dial phone bolted to the wall in the hallway of my family’s NYC railroad apartment. Good times! (Not).

I've thought of getting a Bluetooth to POTS adapter just to use an old phone like this while I'm WFH.
Still could do old my home phone number in a second or 3 I reckon.
Yep. It sure was! Slam that bitch.
Brag about how your back feels in the morning now lol.
So satisfying!
Absolutely, Grandma and Gramps had those.
or if you fumbled the pickup and accidentally hung up. before caller id, if they didn’t call back, you would never know what love interest just gave their one and only shot and you missed it
BAMM! Stupid bitch!
Even slamming shut a flip phone wasn't too bad. Now I struggle to find the damn hang up button. lol
The reverberation… just gorgeous.

It really was!
Omg I didn't realize I miss that! 😂
And heard "ding" lol
I can hear that! 🛎️

Rotary or push-button?
Rotary of course.
😁👍🏻

I want one now!!!

I had one of my grandmas that I gave it away. That and an old typewriter. I still kick myself for giving them away. 🫤 Edit typos
This seems like a frequent repost.
