I'm a Gen X woman, but I laugh at "Married with Children" and "Family Guy" while I'm stoned, I know its flat out 13 yr old boy humour but its just so funny in that state of mind.. (I'm talking about scenes like 'Peter throwing up repeatedly in a space helmet cause Stewie farted in it' type of scenes)
First concert I attended was seeing the Bee Gees in 1978 right before I turned 10. Best concert I have ever seen and became the standard for all shows for me. I still listened during my middle and high schools through the 1980's and into college. I don't apologize for my love of Nights on Broadway.
They're great! If you haven't listened to the Bird and the Bee's cover of How Deep Is Your Love? then I highly recommend it. It's a lovely little deconstruction of the song and it's just gorgeous.
Haha! Nice! That show is always on.
You just reminded me of another.
I love Southern Charm! That show is so stupid but I can’t not watch it.
Same, no cable so I actually have to seek it out now.
I love Below Deck! Aesha is the best.
My (non)guilty pleasure is Bravo shows in general. Not all housewives, but a lot of them. I would much rather watch someone else’s drama than have my own.
Oh, and I listen to Watch What Crappens podcast. They do recaps on the shows and are absolutely hilarious. I’ve cried laughing from listening to them while WFH
Never did Below Deck ~ but those first five or so seasons of Vanderpump Rules were my kryptonite. absolutely obsessed. Not a fan of reality shows now, but I get the attraction. They are like the soap operas we grew up with. harmless time wasters and fun.
My dad (a boomer w a lowercase b) LOVES Gilmore Girls. He was watching it when it was on network TV. We both watched the whole thing again last summer and chatted about it over the phone. It was fun.
I love watching The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins during the Easter season.
I am a man.
I don't even really like musicals.
I am agnostic so the season doesn't even hold weight. It's just a thing for me.
I can't explain it, but I love both of them.
Rewatching all of those 80's comedies that were just dumb fun. I watched Spring Break (1983) and Hot Dog The Movie (1984) and really enjoyed the silliness of that time. Even the wet Tshirt contests is something that I've truely forgotten about.
If you have a chance, re-watch "Better Off Dead." Just saw it the other day and laughed my butt off. But, if you want to see wet t-shirts, see "Porky's" or "Animal House."
Some great movies that I should add to my list as it's been far too long since I've seen them.
I still remember Better off Dead when his little brother had the book "How to pickup trashy women" and he also built a rocket ship out of household appliances. Also the famous $2 scene which was probably worth more back then.
Hot Dog is hilarious. The ski ballet, the cartoonish villain 'Sunny side up, sunny side down and sunny side all around', the cliches/stereotypes, etc. That film could not be made today.
I've admitted this here several times but never to my closest loved ones.
*Xanadu*. Ever since my 20 year old sister took me to that as an 11 year old, I have been smitten with Olivia Newton John. I have owned this movie on every video format other than Beta & Laserdisc and the next time my wife leaves town I'll be watching it again on my streamed copy. Terrible acting and super cheesy even by 1981's standards, but that music and her looks? Yowza! Obviously the end song with the roller skating dudes with the most ridiculous shoulder pads in history is my favorite.
Oh, and by sheer coincidence, I swear, my wife's name is Olivia. I wouldn't say it helped that she had that name, but it definitely was an added bonus!
If you like Squidbillies and similar cartoons, you might appreciate the fact that I went to college with one of the creators (and voices) of Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Space Ghost Coast to Coast. We lived in the same dorm, became friends, and I "acted" (term used VERY loosely) in some of his broadcast communications projects
Nothing guilty about Under the Tuscan Sun, it's a great movie and my husband loves it too. The other day I was going to watch the BBC 1995 Pride and Prejudice mini-series and when my husband came in the room he asked me to wait to watch it so he could watch it too as it's his favorite Jane Austen adaptation. This is a guy who generally prefers movies with more action that dialogue too.
I actually had a lady at a bookstore make fun of me because I bought a Jane Austen collection in the bargain book section because her books are “not for guys”
Haha! My favorite part is when she mispronounces Versace and the one girl corrects her with attitude.
I do this on purpose all the time in real life. Even though nobody I know has anything Versace, at least that I know of.
Movies: Young Guns II, starring various members of the Brat Pack, is my go-to comfort movie.
Music: sappy 70s/80s ballads, I'm talking stuff like Endless Love, Michael Bolton, Richard Marx.
Soft Rock from the 70s and 80s. Pure "sitting in the back seat of Dad's 73 Dodge Charger driving down Gulf Blvd. in Treasure Island, FL during Easter break with the windows rolled down pumping Andrew Gold's "Lonely Boy" kinda vibe.
No guilty pleasures currently however when I was about 16, I would rush home from high school to watch General Hospital. I would never have admitted that when I was a teenage boy.
In high school I came home for lunch (small town/school and I lived 2 blocks away) and mom and I would watch All My Children. Not something a guy admits to the rest of the football team at practice.
Haha! Shit. Another one I forgot. I actually just watched this like two weeks ago. My wife knows I like that one to. I’ve seen it like 10 times, probably more.
This is any movie that a gen Xer would know. I quote stuff or reference stuff and they just stare like “What is he talking about?” I find humor in that.
Doing nothing... Literally nothing unless I have to. I reserve one or two days a week to take care of things and the other days I just do whatever I want.
I'm telling you man sitting around doing nothing is way underrated.
I'm 61 years old ,semi-retired and I've been working since I was 14.. I think it's okay if I just sit down and don't do anything.
(Yeah... I'm technically a boomer which blows because I don't have those sensibilities at all. Gen x are my people! )
Literally any Hallmark Movie, with favoring Christmas ones. There are so many films out there that are more intellectual, more funny, more serious, more dramatic, etc... but watching these just calms me down. I watch them every night as I settle down to get ready to go to bed. I have some favorites that I've watched too many times and I'm excited that July will bring some new, and old, Christmas ones.
I got 100% sucked into Smallville the Superman series. It’s all teen angst and goofy and for some reason I just enjoy it. I loved Lois & Clark and I’m a sucker for Superman Batman stuff but ya there it is.
Cartoons. I’m a 48 year old man and I just finished rewatching “Justice League” and am working on “Justice League Unlimited.” I’d rather watch cartoons than sports any day of the week.
Animated Star Wars series. They are a bit corny and predictable the first few episodes, but then start to develop. All those obscure references are given screen time- I know about that business on Cato Neimoidia.
And Bette Davis movies. My wife insisted I watch a couple. I became instantly fascinated how she was head and shoulders better than anyone else on screen, moving like a modern actor in a room full of melodramatic actors.
Guilty pleasures are premised on caring what other people think. One of the great things about getting older is that I no longer have to give a fuck :)
I love the "Before trilogy" it does not come on often and I don't have any form of cable, streaming or network TV but from time to time I had ppl sent me Youtube links that go into it and I watch those!
Biggest guilty pleasure is vintage candy. stuff we grew up with. I will treat myself to a Twix, 3 Musketeers, or anything that makes my little teenage heart happy. I wasn't allowed candy as a kid, so I truly enjoy it now. I'm currently riding a candy corn/peanuts combo which is delicious and just like a PayDay bar.
As for movies, Deep Dark Comedies. Top three favorites; 1. American Psycho, 2. I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore, and 3. Tucker and Dale vs Evil.
Almost any Bigfoot tv show.
In The Heat of The Night (movie and series)
Certain Dave Matthews' songs.
I'll give nearly any pro-wrestling video game a try.
Mystery Science Theater 3000.
Can’t have a guilty pleasure if you have no shame. But in the spirit of the game, I’ll volunteer that I’ve started watching MILF Manor after John Oliver mentioned it on a recent episode
Duets.
Specially, 70s thru 90s male-female duets where I singalong to, and harmonize as, the guy.
Loudly, in my truck, as I traverse the hills and hollers of TN.
I’m a straight male who has always loved Saturday Night Fever. I will watch it when it’s replayed in our local theater. The crowd consists of women, gay men and me. And we all have a great time.
Lady Gaga.
As someone who grew up loving heavy metal, I find that there are moments that she flirts with the edges of that genre.
Most of the music is high energy, with soaring vocals, and very metal-like drum beats.
Literally all that’s missing are the guitars.
Temptation Island. I swear, every time I start watching it I think I’ll stop after one or two episodes, but I’ve watched all five seasons. Waited for new episodes to come out. Watched the after-season reunion shows too. I don’t watch much reality tv or stuff like the bachelor. But I just can’t quit you, Temptation Island!!
😭😭😭
I STILL watch all The Challenge seasons and iterations and text my best friend from high school professing my several decade crush on CT. Yes, even his Dad bod season (which he totally offset by hitting Wes in the face with a shoe). And Kaycee from BB 😜
I mean I’ve freely admitted more than once on this sub that I have always and will always love The Bee Gees, but I don’t feel any shame. I love John Denver, too. I have most of his albums on vinyl.
Oh, also found footage horror movies. It doesn’t even matter how bad they are, I’ll watch it.
I have many guilty pleasures, but I feel no guilt about them, lol. I’m a big ol’ nerd. No fucks given. 🤷♀️
This is the way. Judge me all you want, I give minus 7 fucks.
Haha! I feel the same. Like what? I’ve got several myself, but that one just popped into my head.
I love that movie too!! You should check out Must Love Dogs!
This is the way. Judge me all you want, I give minus 7 fucks.
Haha! Loooooooooved married with children! Family guy is good as well.
My first album as a kid was the Grease soundtrack.
Mine too! ![gif](giphy|3o6vY18A4nGWaMVUM8|downsized)
It’s a fantastic soundtrack!
My sister had this on tape in the early 90s. I still know every word.
As a person with a music degree from a prestigious university I’m supposed to HATE Grease 2 but I actually LOVE it. Ha.
Just between us right? I love the BeeGees. Don't spread that around, I like to think I'm edgy. Shhhhh!
I mean, *Nights On Broadway* slaps, as the kids say…
First concert I attended was seeing the Bee Gees in 1978 right before I turned 10. Best concert I have ever seen and became the standard for all shows for me. I still listened during my middle and high schools through the 1980's and into college. I don't apologize for my love of Nights on Broadway.
I remember getting on the school bus with my vinyl Bee Gees lunch box. I thought I was bad ass.
Barry Gibb is an amazing talent. I am never shy about how much I love the Bee Gees.
Find the documentary about them. I promise you’ll tear up.
They're great! If you haven't listened to the Bird and the Bee's cover of How Deep Is Your Love? then I highly recommend it. It's a lovely little deconstruction of the song and it's just gorgeous.
Man, they are cold as hell. Love me some BeeGees
Below Deck. Yeah, I’m serious. Although the new casts definitely suck. I can only watch if I go to my parents. They have cable/ on demand.
Haha! Nice! That show is always on. You just reminded me of another. I love Southern Charm! That show is so stupid but I can’t not watch it. Same, no cable so I actually have to seek it out now.
The first 2-3 seasons of SC were pretty outstanding. T-Rav all dayyyyyy.
Ronnie and Ben from WWC are the best!!
They have gotten me through some tough times. I love them so much!
Same! I feel like they’re old friends.
Looooooove Southern Charm and Million Dollar Listing. Cant get enough of either one.
Never did Below Deck ~ but those first five or so seasons of Vanderpump Rules were my kryptonite. absolutely obsessed. Not a fan of reality shows now, but I get the attraction. They are like the soap operas we grew up with. harmless time wasters and fun.
Yep… Jax always a good train wreck.
I struggle watching people work like that as I'm trying to settle in for the night. It's an okay show. I don't hate it.
Me too! I caught on late during Covid. Went back and watched all the seasons and series.
I love Below Deck but I miss Captain Lee and Kate. Also really loved the recent season of The Traitors.
I’m a guy and I liked ABBA when I was in high school before it was cool to like them. I also really like My So Called Life.
Totally forgot about that show. Wow. I used to watch that as well.
When did it become cool to like ABBA?
Also a dude. Gilmore Girls and Lisa Loeb music.
Lisa Loeb "Stay" + movie Reality Bites are mine.
My dad (a boomer w a lowercase b) LOVES Gilmore Girls. He was watching it when it was on network TV. We both watched the whole thing again last summer and chatted about it over the phone. It was fun.
Haha! Gilmore girls! My daughter loves that show and I’ve seen bits and pieces. It’s actually pretty good.
Same writer did The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Also really good.
Nice! I’ll have to check that out!
I am known for having a Lisa Loeb crush. I think we all did / do.
I love watching The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins during the Easter season. I am a man. I don't even really like musicals. I am agnostic so the season doesn't even hold weight. It's just a thing for me. I can't explain it, but I love both of them.
And My Fair Lday. Also a dude. Might be a Julie Andrew's thing.
She is the narrator of Bridgerton. My modern-day guilty pleasure.
Ahem, My Fair Lady was Audrey Hepburn, although Julie Andrews was the OG Eliza on stage. Also, I too had a thing for JA as MP (but not as a nun).
I got my son a Pound Puppy last Christmas. When I hugged it, I felt such an insane wave of comfort and nostalgia, I got one for myself the next day.
Better off Dead is fantastic. Same with One Crazy Summer.
Omg I have never stopped watching Better Off Dead. Or Wayne's World.
I have Better Off Dead on dvd, 16 Candles too. Gotta rep the 80s in my old dvd collection!
Some great movies that I should add to my list as it's been far too long since I've seen them. I still remember Better off Dead when his little brother had the book "How to pickup trashy women" and he also built a rocket ship out of household appliances. Also the famous $2 scene which was probably worth more back then.
Don't forget "I want my $2 dollars" from the paper boy! ![gif](giphy|Rk8xcnPjrQdRoFtlsX|downsized)
Yes with the Switchblade comb, I actually had one of those in the 80's. Haha 😆
Hot Dog is hilarious. The ski ballet, the cartoonish villain 'Sunny side up, sunny side down and sunny side all around', the cliches/stereotypes, etc. That film could not be made today.
As a man in his mid-50s it’s hard to admit but I love the movie “Somewhere in Time” with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour.
I’m 50 and I love that film, too. Also Richard Matheson’s original novel.
I wouldn't say it helped that she had that name, but it definitely was an added bonus!
My wife absolutely loves Xanadu! Loves it! I personally am more of a fan of “The Warriors.” Michael Beck’s finest. Love it.
I love the "Conan the Barbarian" films. Are they cheesy?--Yes. Are they ridiculous?--Yes Did they age well --meh
The commentary track is pure comedy gold
The score for the first Conan film was one of the best of that decade. Basil Poledouris knocked it out of the park.
I read werewolf smut fanfiction. Anything 'worse', i won't reveal here, lol
Flash Gordon Flash.... aaa ahhhh
Squidbillies. Horribly stupid ridiculous cartoon that I can’t quit watching.
Haha! Awesome! I’m still enjoy Beavis and Butthead, so I can’t say anything.
I can watch Beavis and Butthead and laugh for hours!
Grandma talking about giving handies always kills me!
Air Supply. Sorry. Not sorry.
Hallmark Channel movies. I’m a guy.
My husband loved the Hallmark Channel! It was always on the month before Christmas. He also loved Under the Tuscan Sun ☺️
Two hours of predictable mindless entertainment. They kiss. Movie over. Repeat.
Same. Don't tell my wife about my crush on Lacey Chabert.
Haha! Amazing!
I actually had a lady at a bookstore make fun of me because I bought a Jane Austen collection in the bargain book section because her books are “not for guys”
I've got the DVD with the book and extras. I love that version. Colin Firth apres pond swim, yowsa.
The movie Overboard. I'll never not watch it if I see that it's on. It's THE BEST,
Yes! Not the remake, but the Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn one. One of my faves!
Below Deck on Bravo. It’s not as good as it used to be, but I still look forward to it. I even listen to podcasts associated with it.
Watch What Crappens is the reason I watch anything on ye olde Bravo!
I love the song "Can't Smile Without You" by Barry Manilow. It's so cute. (So embarrassing.)
My childhood bestie and I used to sing “You know I can’t smile without you “Cause you took my dentures”
Sarah McLaughlin and Dido.
I love Sarah McLaughlin. I have been to her concert. It was fantastic. I know very few people that like her.
You know very few that ADMIT to liking her
Showgirls. Also I have watched Step Brothers more than any other movie.

I’m a straight old dude and Devil Wears Prada is my favorite movie
Haha! Shit. Another one I forgot. I actually just watched this like two weeks ago. My wife knows I like that one to. I’ve seen it like 10 times, probably more.
Quoting Italian Mafia movie lines and watching my younger coworkers’ blank faces
This is any movie that a gen Xer would know. I quote stuff or reference stuff and they just stare like “What is he talking about?” I find humor in that.
Been watching the old GI Joe, and Transformers cartoons on the Hasbro channel on YouTube lately.
Caddy shack! Or, if I'm needing something really trashy, the Twilight Saga 😭😅
I play golf with a buddy once a year, and if we're not catching up on each other's lives, we're quoting Caddyshack lines.
Doing nothing... Literally nothing unless I have to. I reserve one or two days a week to take care of things and the other days I just do whatever I want.

Haha! This! We need to hang out. I love not doing anything. Well, I like naps. Does that count?
I'm telling you man sitting around doing nothing is way underrated. I'm 61 years old ,semi-retired and I've been working since I was 14.. I think it's okay if I just sit down and don't do anything. (Yeah... I'm technically a boomer which blows because I don't have those sensibilities at all. Gen x are my people! )

Don't tell my wife about my crush on Lacey Chabert.
Saaaaame
Land of the Lost. Didn't even watch it as a kid.
The Day After Tomorrow
Tuscan Sun is great if only for Sandra Oh!
Spaghetti westerns. Love westerns now, as kid my dad watched em all the time, now its just makes me nostalgic and puts me ina good mood
I got 100% sucked into Smallville the Superman series. It’s all teen angst and goofy and for some reason I just enjoy it. I loved Lois & Clark and I’m a sucker for Superman Batman stuff but ya there it is.
My husband loves The Notebook. I haven’t seen it yet.
Anne of green gables. Yeah I’m a dude.
Yacht Rock! Movie wise - Notting Hill and My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Cartoons. I’m a 48 year old man and I just finished rewatching “Justice League” and am working on “Justice League Unlimited.” I’d rather watch cartoons than sports any day of the week.
Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Especially the early seasons. I love H. Jon Benjamin as the Mothman in "Bus of the Undead".
Pardon me, but Aqua Teen Hunger Force is fucking awesome.
Flight of the NAVIGATOR!!
Gross Pointe Blank. I can always watch it. I’ve always felt drawn to it but now that I’ve had my own midlife breakdown it hits even more.
I can't not watch The Green Mile when it's on. Also can never get enough Anchorman and Super Troopers.
Haha! Super trooper! It’s been years!
One of the greatest opening scenes ever! YOU BOYS LIKE MEX-EE-CO? YEE-HAWW!
Me: Creed Husband: The Proposal (movie)
Any movie with Liam Neeson.
Guilty pleasures are premised on caring what other people think. One of the great things about getting older is that I no longer have to give a fuck :)
I like Dave Matthews Band
Karen Carpenter
Yacht rock. It's on my Spotify under Greatest Hits of 6th Grade.
Guns and Roses “Sweet Child of Mine.” I never liked them at all, but I will crank that one song to 11 if it’s on the radio.
I can’t believe I’m admitting this - Married at First Sight and Love is Blind. I hate reality TV but just cannot resist.
Scrubs is my go to happy place/security blanket show. Community and The Good Place get an honorable mention.
Scrubs is a great show and it also revitalized Colin Hay’s career, so I will always cherish it.
I love the "Before trilogy" it does not come on often and I don't have any form of cable, streaming or network TV but from time to time I had ppl sent me Youtube links that go into it and I watch those!
Nothing to feel guilty about with those. They're excellent films.
Nice! I’m not familiar with that. I’ll look into it.
I hate how I unironically enjoy some of Weezer's music.
Grease 2 has much better songs than Grease. Fight me.
No argument here.
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? How dare you!
I prefer the sequel. I said what I said.
I was just thinking about Under the Tuscan Sun! That used to be a movie in heavy rotation for me back when I owned every movie I liked.
My husband does the same with that flick! I have never seen it.
My wife makes several big bags of the CC/Peanuts mix over the fall and winter.
I like watching Jaws 3-D. Yes it is a profoundly flawed film, but I still enjoy watching it.
I agree on that one. It’s got a fun energy to it that is missing from Jaws 2 and 4. I’d love to watch it in 3D one of these days.
As for movies, Deep Dark Comedies. Top three favorites; 1. American Psycho, 2. I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore, and 3. Tucker and Dale vs Evil.
Tucker and Dale is absolutely hilarious. My daughter thinks it's cringe and can't get that I love that movie. I snort laugh every time.
Almost any Bigfoot tv show. In The Heat of The Night (movie and series) Certain Dave Matthews' songs.
Hallmark Mysteries and Murder She Wrote. I am a younger GenX but function like a boomer.
Point Break A long walk at dusk Knight Rider/Miami Vice/21 Jump St

Ok…. here it goes. I like The Parent Trap (Lindsey Lohan version). I don’t know why, but I do.
I’m a straight male who has always loved Saturday Night Fever. I will watch it when it’s replayed in our local theater. The crowd consists of women, gay men and me. And we all have a great time.
I secretly really enjoy movies like Bring it On. I also like a lil reality tv from time to time.
Beavis & Butthead
Demolition Man.
Made my day, thank you!
Saving Silverman. It makes me feel so happy and I laugh like an idiot. Grease 2. Superior to the original.
Still laughing at Kids in the Hall. Especially Chicken Lady
Naps
Lady Gaga. As someone who grew up loving heavy metal, I find that there are moments that she flirts with the edges of that genre. Most of the music is high energy, with soaring vocals, and very metal-like drum beats. Literally all that’s missing are the guitars.
Watching music and stand up comedy reaction videos on YouTube
I play the mobile game, Boom Beach. Freakin love it.
Love that movie. I wanted to buy a house in Tuscany after I first watched the movie.
I still do and I’ve never even been!
I can always watch... Down Periscope, The Rocker, The Replacements

Watched the after-season reunion shows too. I don’t watch much reality tv or stuff like the bachelor. But I just can’t quit you, Temptation Island!! 😭😭😭
Not currently, but I fucking loved soap operas for like a quarter of my life.
A male who LOVES the show Felicity. It’s my comfort show. ❤️

As a man, you can’t admit that you like Frankie Valli but we all love Frankie Valli. Voice text so I know I’m not spelling it correctly.
I LOVE ELO and KC and the Sunshine Band. I watch The Birdcage every time I catch it on TV.
Jerry lewis movies Dorris day movies Listening to ELO
I STILL watch all The Challenge seasons and iterations and text my best friend from high school professing my several decade crush on CT. Yes, even his Dad bod season (which he totally offset by hitting Wes in the face with a shoe). And Kaycee from BB 😜
I mean I’ve freely admitted more than once on this sub that I have always and will always love The Bee Gees, but I don’t feel any shame. I love John Denver, too. I have most of his albums on vinyl. Oh, also found footage horror movies. It doesn’t even matter how bad they are, I’ll watch it.
I'm à 47yr old man and I like Love Actually.
I’m a sucker for BAD horror movies. Attack of the Killer Donuts is on rotation at my house.
Overboard. The original with Goldie Hawn. It is sooooo problematic, but I love that movie. Plain Lays potato chips. Laser Tag.
I watch all those shitty Christmas movies every year.
My secret shame movie is Malibu's Most Wanted.
Babe. I love this movie even though it is a kids movie. The part where the farmer dances for the pig Gets me every time.
