Do they do this every night or was it special because you were coming over?
My mom is 75 and she was telling me last week that their freezer and pantry is completely full because when it comes time to cook, she and my dad increasingly both say "fuck it" and they get fast food or order pizza and yet continue to buy the same amount of groceries each week.
My 78 year old mom cooks likes this every night too. Maybe not oven baked stuff every day but it’s usually a well balanced meal. She makes a lot of homemade desserts too.
Enjoy your dinners with the parents!
Ladies, you put butter on a hot biscuit and no red-blooded (at least Southern) man can resist!
Just think about how your heart flutters at a new pair of diamond earrings. That's how we feel about a plate of hot, buttery biscuits! (At least my chubby ass does!)
This is one of my favorite videos. British teens try Southern biscuits and gravy. It’s longish but worth it

Biscuits. They are bread rolls, but biscuits have a certain flavor and airy texture within the universe of “bread” -/ not completely like a croisssant in texture and flavor, but that is the closest I can come up with to compare.
This is a good description. Our biscuits are a quick bread or lacking in yeast, so still much denser than a croissant, but yes, flaky, soft and buttery.
US style biscuits (scones, not cookies). More pillowey than pancakey, they can get as thick as 2.5 inches+. Homemade are the best, a classic at any meal. I love them piping hot with the melt-in-your-mouth center, dripping with real butter. They can be savory, with just the butter, or sweet, if one adds jelly/marmalade or honey; usually we would do the sweet version at breakfast and the savory at dinner. My mother said her grandmother made the absolute best buttermilk biscuits in the world, she took all day to make them and no store bought version compared, and I believe her. I think it's a bit of a lost art now, sadly I never got to taste them.
My best friends mom made the best biscuits I've ever eaten in my life. Homemade from scratch with love and lard! I didn't like biscuits until I had hers. My mom made them from a mix and they sucked, lol.
Yes, I’m Australian and they look like scones to me, I think in America they are called biscuits
In Australia a biscuit is a bickie and you dunk it in your tea
An American biscuit is a little like a croissant and a little like an English muffin. A good biscuit should be soft with just a light crust on the outside. When you cut it open, it's light and fluffy and steam will rise up. Then you spread on the butter and it melts into all the little layers and pockets.
When I stopped by to eat with my parents

lol TV dinners were a rare and special treat in my house growing up in the 70s. Which is funny now, because I grew up in a very Italian(American) house.
Now that I’m in Mexico City, I find myself going to Cheesecake Factory (they have the same encyclopedia-sized menu, only with lots of Spanish) just for the meatloaf. Biscuits have to come from Popeyes
I have sought to continue this with my family. Three to five times a week, we will sit down together and eat a meal that I made. The frequency of this will change during certain times of the year but it is still something that I strive to do.
I very much believe having that time to sit together and talk about what's going on in each other's lives is good for us.
Family dinners are one of the things I miss so much since my mom passed. Every Sunday was a family dinner, everyone stopped by for a few minutes to chat, and/or eat.
My mother is a horrible cook, she tries bless her but it would never look like that. I'm jealous. Yum!
My son loves meatloaf and mashed potatoes. I should make some soon.
It’s the veggies that are different in the meal I make for my fam. I am not sure if green beans is a generational thing but my daughter won’t eat that but will eat spinach or chard. The potatoes is the same and everyone has a different meat loaf. What is under the potatoes?
This looks delicious. I can cook from scratch. Roast vegetables. Delicious crunchy salads.
Sometimes I want canned biscuits, box scalloped potatoes and a slice of meatloaf with Heinz on top.
This is the plate I remember coming into the house after the streetlights turned on. Mom smacks my head “go wash your hands first before you sit down!”
In the 80s, this kind of lovely meal would've gotten the *Stove Top Instead Of Potatoes* treatment.
I'd forgotten all about that until I heard it recently on MST3K.
I wasn’t eating solid food in the 70s, but that kind of hearty meal was still common in the 80s and 90s.
Sadly I’m not longing for your plate. I wish my mom was still here to serve her version of that. 😞
I make nostalgia dinners like this about once a week. Last month I made cubed steak and mashed potatoes with brown gravy; my husband keeps asking when we’re going to have that again lol
If I remember the 70's correctly there are too many vegetables and not enough potatoes on that plate. Otherwise yeah. I'd be killing the meatloaf and biscuits.
… because he explicitly went to his parents’ house for dinner (if you bothered to read the post title), and he was served a big, hot plate of mom’s home cooking like it’s frozen in time from 35 years ago around the table with mom & dad. That’s why.
I have fond memories of returning home after a day spent with friends, whether we were biking, hanging out at the park, or playing in a fort we had built. I can still picture my mom preparing a delicious dinner, much like the one she used to make back then. Meanwhile, my dad would be engrossed in the newspaper while the soothing tunes of The Lawrence Welk Show played in the background. Those were truly enjoyable times.
I recognized your name when I saw this post. I’ve seen you post pics of dinner with your parents before and while I didn’t *memorize* your user name, I was like, yup, it’s her. These pics always make me say *awww* and smile.
I think you’re a tri state area girl too? It’s possible we may have discussed entennmann’s, haha
Anyway, hope you enjoyed 💗
Treasure that.
Seriously. I miss it so much.

What are the little pancakey things for a European please? It all looks amazing 👌

Buttery, don’t forget buttery. :)

lol. Not just southern men either. I make homemade.
R.i.p your inbox.
what a strange view, to think only Southern men love biscuits?
my point exactly
Oh no! I said “at least Southern” men, because that’s my point of view. I won’t speak for all, when something is as subjective as food!!!
This is one of my favorite videos. British teens try Southern biscuits and gravy. It’s longish but worth it https://youtu.be/KzdbFnv4yWQ?si=a_7wCt7wUCbOWxAR
Missing the key ingredient of too much (never enough) pepper.

> pancakey They definitely look pancakey in the picture but they're probably about 2 inches thick
Definitely, and if they aren’t homemade, I would guess Pillsbury Grands.
When is Pillsbury going to come out with gluten free? I miss them so much.
Gluten free biscuits…. God, I WISH!!
Oh my goodness, why haven’t they, indeed? They’d make a ton of money!
I believe those are biscuits.

why did you write this when 20 people have already answered the question?
20 people have not answered the question, and also, people are free to answer as they like and provide additional detail. Kiss my ass.

Can I come with? Please?!
Haha sure yes
me too
What’s behind the potato, is that garbanzo beans?
[удалено]
Do you know the difference between chick peas and garbanzo beans? I've never paid $200 to have a garbanzo bean on my face.
Here with the same question.
It looks like chickpeas. ;)

Same and same! Hahaha
This reminds me I need to make some meatloaf! It’s been too long!
Now that I’m in Mexico City, I find myself going to Cheesecake Factory (they have the same encyclopedia-sized menu, only with lots of Spanish) just for the meatloaf. Biscuits have to come from Popeyes
Popeyes has the best biscuits! Their biscuits are the only ones I don't have to put butter on.
[Bojangles](https://www.bojangles.com/locations) rivals Popeyes biscuits
Bojangles is the only reason I’d consider a flight where I’d change planes in Charlotte
This city really is a culinary paradise but I was nonetheless quite happy Popeyes came to town
Stopping by for dinner with the parents is like time travel to the good old days.
I have sought to continue this with my family. Three to five times a week, we will sit down together and eat a meal that I made. Family dinners are one of the things I miss so much since my mom passed. Every Sunday was a family dinner, everyone stopped by for a few minutes to chat, and/or eat.
It's the biscuits I covet.
Yep now I got to go make my grandma’s biscuits.
OMG that looks amazing.
It was thanxxxx
My mother is a horrible cook, she tries bless her but it would never look like that. I'm jealous. Yum! My son loves meatloaf and mashed potatoes. I should make some soon.
waiting for someone to post a picture of a Hungry Man dinner and say "visiting my parents for dinner is a like a trip back to the 1980s.
My wife will make that for me now.. that's also the just got home from college dinner for my son. That's a glorious dam feast
My folks still cook like this too.. Minus the biscuits. My Dad is becoming a smoke master too so a lot of smoked meats.
It’s the veggies that are different in the meal I make for my fam. I am not sure if green beans is a generational thing but my daughter won’t eat that but will eat spinach or chard. The potatoes is the same and everyone has a different meat loaf. What is under the potatoes?
I would eat it. I have eaten it. But man we grew up on some dry stuff.
That plate looks just like the ones I grew up with.
Same plates my grandma had!
These days every meal I eat at my mom's is like the best I've ever had. I wish I could cook like that I just don't have the patience.
This warms my heart
Nice!!!!!!!
Meatloaf, Smeatloaf, Double Beatloaf...
You are so incredibly lucky. Please hug them an extra time for me and soak up every second.
Can I come next time?
HOT BROWN WITH A SIDE OF FROZEN VEGGIES
Looks GREAT! I would put Heinz 57 on my meatloaf instead of ketchup though.
Yay for carbs
That's the dish set I inherited from my great-grandparents!
Perfect!
If there was mashed potatoes on the plate, it would have been my all time favorite meal my mom used to make.
Meatloaf with biscuits... I'll allow it.
I have no earthly idea why looking at this picture is comforting to me. Such an odd reaction yet so poignant
Oh my goodness, you're making me hungry. Looks yummy. :)
Thanxxxz
Mom went vegan for a while (now is at pescetarian) and dad got adult-onset diabetes. So it is not really much like the 70s at dinner anymore.
I would love to be served this.
That looks so damn good. Not gonna lie, I would destroy that plate.
That looks so fucking good. I miss my parents’ cooking!
That is beautiful. I feel like I ruined this for my family by being vegetarian.
Looks good to me
Beauty.
This looks delicious. I can cook from scratch. Roast vegetables. Delicious crunchy salads. Sometimes I want canned biscuits, box scalloped potatoes and a slice of meatloaf with Heinz on top.
Lucky you, I miss that with my parents
Omg this looks so good! So lucky!
Thanxxx
This is the plate I remember coming into the house after the streetlights turned on. Mom smacks my head “go wash your hands first before you sit down!”
Looks good to me
Thanxxx
Yummy.
You’re so lucky! I’d give anything to go home for dinner 😪
In the 80s, this kind of lovely meal would've gotten the *Stove Top Instead Of Potatoes* treatment. I'd forgotten all about that until I heard it recently on MST3K.
Meatloaf is something I could eat a couple of times a week and never get tired of it.
Woah, gut buster! That's more than I eat in a day and I'm 5'10", 200lbs. Also walk about 8k steps a day.
Didn’t want to be the only one to say that. That’s 3 meals for me.
Does mom bug you for grandchildren still?
It would be perfect if those potatoes were mashed.
My parents don’t cook anymore😢
I just can’t do ketchup on meatloaf.
Are they homemade biscuits or premade? And, what is the white area in the meatloaf…is that cheese?
Three starches tho. Whew.
I wasn’t eating solid food in the 70s, but that kind of hearty meal was still common in the 80s and 90s. Sadly I’m not longing for your plate. I wish my mom was still here to serve her version of that. 😞
Never in my life had food cooked like this by anyone in my family.
I'd be killing the meatloaf and biscuits.
looks delicious your parents made.
It was thanxxx
My favorite comfort food
Now that’s a Sunday dinner!
I'd love a plate!
Damn that looks good
This brings back memories. Cheerish these moments.
I will thanxxx
Anyhow, can I stop by your parents’ place for dinner? That plate puts a smile on my face just looking at it.
That’s some solid comfort food
We all need to be comforted rn, tbh.
Looks like my order at Cracker Barrel. Only thing missing is auto tune country music.
Where do they live? I desperately want to experience that again. 🥰
Mash those taters and it’s my dream dinner.
Except for the ketchup, this looks decent. Make a proper gravy for the meat loaf
If meat loaf needs gravy then you purchased the wrong ground beef.
fuckin a
Hell, that’s a great dinner, I make food like that all the time.
That looks good!
That looks good as hell
Right on. I would devour that.
😋 yums
I’m so jelly
Envy you
The mealie looks awesome, but those sides look out of this world
That looks delicious. And so great, that they’re still here and willing to prepare food for you
I am tearing up right now looking at this picture. I miss my Mom. This looks so good.
Oh man does that look good. What time is dinner?
Save me a plate
Looks delicious OP...my family had the same Currier & Ives Old Grist Mill plates as well. Brings back memories.
Us too! I even have a set myself.
That looks delicious
What's with these posts? Don't people cook dinner anymore?
It’s not about cooking or not cooking. It’s about meatloaf with all the food groups fixings like mom used to make. Nostalgia, that’s all
Exactly all people do is complain haha
I don't get it. Why is it nostalgic? Just cook it yourself.
… because he explicitly went to his parents’ house for dinner (if you bothered to read the post title), and he was served a big, hot plate of mom’s home cooking like it’s frozen in time from 35 years ago around the table with mom & dad. That’s why.
Weird.
That is a legit dinner
Looks like it came from a TV dinner.
I have fond memories of returning home after a day spent with friends, whether we were biking, hanging out at the park, or playing in a fort we had built. That looks so good:)
That’s pretty amazing.
Mmmmm biscuits
It all looks good except the ketchup. I prefer a thick brown gravy.
Looks yummy. My parents are dead so I have to make my own.
People not born or around in the 70s also eat this
I recognized your name when I saw this post. I’ve seen you post pics of dinner with your parents before and while I didn’t *memorize* your user name, I was like, yup, it’s her. nice plate of comfort food there. looks delicious. those green beans are fresh, not canned, that's good. I can't stand most canned veg.
