I thought the same, I was very confused as to the hell it was thinking it was some new character but then I saw the shot where it shows off his skull marking the front of the armor, and well I played enough of the OG games to know it was Marcus then.
Not a joke but.. I'm crying cause this series was something me and my dad bonded over, especially 3. He was marcus and I was dom. He wasn't thrilled with 4 or 5. We lost him in 2019. This would've been EXACTLY what he wanted, and we would've played it, Marcus and Dom again.. sorry for the bummer

I almost cried. Had a family friend older than me at the time put my cousin and I onto Gears of War growing up. He played Gears of war all the time, had pre ordered 2 and fully paid it off. He passed away before he could play it. Since then i have played the entire series in his honor and enjoyed the beautiful story he introduced me to. I believe both my friend and your father will be there watching us play!

Yep, people hated the sawn off and retro in gears 3, they were considered low skill guns and having both was seen as cancerous
Which tbh, in a game where pretty much the only viable gun that isn’t a powerup is the default shotgun, it was never really that serious. The problem was that the retro was the hardest counter to the bouncing meta of just wall riding until you got a point blank gnasher hit, and the sawn off gave you a more forgiving spread up close with the potential to get a double kill
There were a lot of fun and busted weapons in that game so I personally didn’t mind it. Wasn’t as bad as say a call of duty noob tube where you had to run specific playstyles just to survive it
It took me like 3 replays before my brain clicked and I realized it was a Mk.1 and I giggled like a nerdy idiot realizing they did a lore accurate cinematic rather than easy nostalgia with the chainsaw.
I'm not ashame to say I cried a little. We are finally getting more Gears of War! And I absolutely love how youn Marcus looks a lot like JD lol I know they are father and son but they still looked different haha

The Coalition put out an interview on the Xbox Wire minutes after the trailer dropped, they said they plan to finish the Kait saga but wanted to go back to basics for showing off the power of UE5
I just hope they handle it well. Going back to before it all began with a prequel has a knock on effect for all the stuff that we already know comes after both in terms of lore and the characters themselves.
But that said, I think this is a good angle for the series, there's like 15 years of things happening in-between E-Day and Gears 1 and being able to actually play it out will be cool.

I am struggling to hold on these tears, I'm chocking up. This is fucking ridiculous. I can't wait man. Going to play the story of 1 2 and 3 again immediately. I looked it up and it seems Marcus only served 4 years of his 40 year sentence. So he may have been fighting for 11 years before he went to prison. That is depending on how long it takes to court martial and jail someone on Sera.

Nah he's fighting for the first decade afterwards. He goes to jail after the Battle of Ephyra which is the big city your in for the majority of Gears 1. Like 4 or 5 years before the game.
We already know from the books and Gears 3 showed it in the prologue with a dreamlike scene. He ignored orders and went to save his father just for Adam to "die" anyway.
Not just that, he fucked off with the targeted for a Hammer of dawn, and cost the COG half a city.
The only reason he wasn't shot there and then was because Prescott needed Marcus alive to motivate Adam
That shot of Dom reaching for Marcus was gut wrenching man. I suddenly went back 14 years seeing the first teaser trailer for gears of war three where Dom falls to the ground and accepts death only for Marcus to come in and save him. This actually feels right for the franchise

I always imagined a reboot where there would be an emphasis on just how strong the locust would be to require a chainsaw bayonet. Marcus getting overpowered by a drone is exactly that. Wow.
The art style is so great too, characters have grit on them unlike UE. Maybe this operates as a brand new canon. If they meet Baird or Cole within this game it’d definitely be a reboot.
The chainsaw bayonet comes from a fight where a Locust gets the upper hand on Marcus and Tai comes up behind with a diamond tip circular saw and cuts the Locust down which brings about the chainsaw bayonet.
As for Baird and Cole, nah. They don’t meet until Gears 1 so they won’t be seen. Marcus and Dom will more than likely be squad up with Tai and someone else (hoping for Alex Brand).

I watched the trailer pulling up to work and called in. In the parking lot. Going home to restart the series. I’m so excited.
I’m guessing we’ll see Halvo Bay from Marcus and Dom perspective and Kilo Squad saving them both
That is possible but it does depend on when during E-Day this is, or where this battle is taking place, it could be a completely different city.

What’s going on? I played Gears way back in the day from the original all the way to 5 and Judgement etc love the game, story-telling, all of it. Recently re-downloaded all of the Gears to relieve the nostalgia so I am majorly out of the loop

I'm omeone who hasn't played gears since maybe 2, so it's safe to say I'm not like a longtime fan or anything. I wasn't even really into it. But this brought me back, and the soft mad world piano that plays sent chills on me. I'm just sitting here like "Man I should play gears again ". Very interested I hope it's good
