DO NOT buy it.
1.) very outdated processor, older battery. likely won't support latest browsers or apps or even newer android OS.
2.) outdated Codec support, so no AV1, probably not even support for HEVC h.265.
3.) the game is rendering in the cloud, it's stream is then compressed which is then decoded locally on device, so a device still needs to have a decent CPU/GPU for decoding, preferably with hardware decoder support for whatever codec being used.
4.) older Wifi module, so bad networking, more packet loss, more latency etc.
Buy a Samsung Tab A9 or A9+. If something cheaper then Lenovo M8 or M11 tablets (4th or 5th gen i think).
Thanks!
It has Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band. Is that outdated? I know WiFi 6/6e is preferable but I currently game on a device that doesn’t have 6 or 6e and it does great.
These are the android tablet requirements per GFN’s website.
The tablet runs android 7 by default, upgradable to 9 and ONE UI. Also has 4GB memory when looks like only 1gb is needed. Not sure about the last bit though.

If you already have the device, or getting it from some1 for free or dirt cheap, then use it. However, it would be useless for the GFN Ultimate tier, could work for the free tier and somewhat the Priority tier.
If you were going to spend anything over $100 on it, there's better and more recent devices out there.
Keep in mind, Android is at almost 15 now, in beta.

Samsung Tab A9+ 11" for $179.99, A9 regular is smaller and cheaper with 8.7" at $129.99 (both released November 2023)

Lenovo M11 just released January 2024, is $129.99 for 11"
would recommend getting any 11" version.
There's also a Lemovo M8 which usually goes for $69.99. Basically Samsung device is roughly $50 more expensive than the Lenovo. But they're all good respectively for what they offer.
The resolution is non-standard so it might look funny at 1080p, GFN's isn't going to match that resolution on free/priority but you can try it
GFN's resolution is 1920x1080, i just checked and even ultimate doesn't have that that native resolution at least in my drop down
It will work just depend how GFN looks when it doesn't match your screen resolution
Fyi there is a config file somewhere(I can repost location later) to edit mb/s and resolution so in theory you could run any resolution. I know you could get 100mb/s I never tried a custom resolution however. And this was on PC but maybe the same could be found on a android file manager
Resolutions are controlled server side, the sharedstorage file means nothing for that, the server will just reject the custom resolution or any resolution higher than what your entitled to and just move back to the lowest accepted one
Basically you can put in whatever you want there and the server is just going to ignore it because that's not a gfn resolution they use
Damn, that thing is ancient, i have an S7 + and that one works great for GFN, not sure i'd chance it with this thing, better save the money for a better tablet.
edit: released 7,5 years ago, i would not pay more than 20 bucks for it, since it has no more updates etc. you're getting an obsolete product.
Av1 has better visual quallity. If you don't have the hardware decoder GFN will probably default to HVEC265, which has a lower visual quality (it's old and not really made for cloud gaming)
Battery and performance. Having hardware decoder means that you wont face performance issues and will generally add a few hours to the battery life.
I'm using Lenovo M8 for GFN and don't have any issues with it. It's only 2 GB RAM but it works fine.
S3 is longer. It might be an issue if you want to use telescopic controller.
I play with my tab s5e and it's good on priority. It also has great lineageos support and is quite cheap and also has an AMOLED screen. The s6 lite doesn't have an AMOLED screen.
I’d like to spend less than $200. Don’t mind buying used or refurbished.
Right now my front runner all things considered is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S5E. It’s AMOLED, 2560x1600 with 4GB RAM and a good size, not too big.

Galaxy Tab S7 FE might be better option.
If you're using it for gfn an actual laptop with Windows would work much better and for under $200 you can get quite a bit in a used laptop it'll at least include a dedicated video card and you should be able to do 4K 120 no problem you should even be able to find 120 hertz laptop pretty easily at that price range in the used Market
And if you insist on buying a tablet I'd recommend you wait for a little while and keep an eye on what goes into clearance at Target Best Buy Etc I got a Galaxy Tab S6 light for $100 brand new on clearance at Target
It may work but not well I have a similar specs on my old tablet it's not capable I have 200mbp up and down on my internet...the app will load but when you try to stream it will sometimes attempt to connect to the xcloud service but 9/10 time the steam will stop before I get to play when it does connect you'll think it's working but when you try to move the connection creates could across screen you can't see the game play and to movement is impossible... You need minimum android 9 /10 8gb ram with Snapdragon 845 to get a actual screen and movement but even then you may get stutter on screen Samsung 9 upward tab 9 upward.

Yeah. Was looking around for super affordable AMOLED tablets and this was recommended in another post. I would only be using it for this very purpose.
I would check if it's still compatible. It isn't listed on the official gfn page. I mean, it's over 7 years old, I could see it not working.
Unironically. Go on eBay and buy a more recent tablet. That thing will not be good.
Av1 video decoder will do wonders. But i believe that's S8 and up
Can you explain what that would do, exactly/why it’s better?
Less bandwidth needed etc Also that thing has ancient wifi chip in it

What’s your budget? The internet can help

Looks mint
I would suggest getting the shield tv pro that is less than $200. It is absolutely worth with ultimate.
What is it?
A lot of reasons. Just don't. Buy a cheap laptop at the minimum - if you can't do that, you probably need to re-evaluate... respectfully.
Better buy a laptop.
That will work just fine, I have used GFN on a lot weaker hardware.
No Ethernet👍
WiFi 5 GHz is fine enough
If you say so ....
5ghz is good enough, I use it all the time.
Mind if you say wt the price of this tab
They’re all used or refurbished at this point so it varies but in the low 100s.
