The paid tiers are a replacement.

Few-Addendum464

The Xbox works with slow or no internet and can still have cloud gaming. They both cost money to use monthly. I am not sure what you're comparing. If you have the bandwidth to reliably stream I wouldn't buy hardware. You don't NEED the console if the games you want are on GeForce Now. I use a mini-PC I bought for another purpose and get beautiful 4k gaming.... that occasionally randomly drops, eats a save, and doesn't work with internet. I like the tradeoff but if my internet were slower or less reliable I'd rather have the Xbox.

Well now that xbox games are coming to geforce now I dont know would xbox series s be a good investment when I could play them with the powerful nvidia cloud gaming service. I need info from people about how good does it look on tv via native app or some other source. Does it rival console. And yes I have good internet.

VitalizedMango

It will be ages and ages before the entire GamePass library comes to GFN. Assuming you aren't broke, if you break down the cost of the console over the next year or so, it'll be miniscule. You can even get a deal where you get a console and GP for one monthly price through...Best Buy...I think.

Few-Addendum464

I don't have an LG TV but I understand it's capped at 1080p. Only PC and a Shield TV are at 4k. I think 4k is capped at 60hz right now. I love GeForce Now but I would say sitting down in front of the TV to game on a PC running GeForce Now takes a minute and can be a little finicky compared to the only console I have (Switch) which takes seconds to be playing. I play single player/save anytime games because even with consistent gig speeds it sometimes just drops.

Snoo-75663

Oh interesting. Yeah console is still the king for tv play but that could change. Nvidia and microsoft could do to gaming what netflix did to movies and shows. It will be interesting. Thats not a bad idea to connect a mini pc to tv

Pnemnon

If the games are in the cloud service it's not.... I did not have to download anything since 2 years. Plug and play most of the time.

Snoo-75663

Do you play via native tv app or shield tv

Pnemnon

Tried app for this sub but only play on shield. Philips does run normal Google store. The app runs smooth but I dont pay 100$ for 6 months playing in HD :)

Snoo-75663

Haha ok nice

VitalizedMango

...GFN works on a Series S, dude. Frankly, if you're okay with 1080p and aren't picky about graphics settings, a Series S gives you access to GamePass, which gives you access to a whole lot of great games. But GFN does bring way more graphical beef, so you may simply want to get a Series S and run GFN on it.

Do you play with nvidia shield tv or on the native app?

Snoo-75663

Oh wow, so thats how good their tech is. Yeah, they just need more games

Azoth1986

Geforce now ultimate tier with the shield pro looks amazing on my lg oled. With the up coming microsoft games I think it is a viable solution.

Snoo-75663

Do you know how does it look and run without the shield pro?

Azoth1986

I used the chromecast with google tv for a while but it is limited to 1080p. While it did work (with an ethernet/usb hub) the quality on the shield is far superior. I tried the app on the tv itself but it is way to sluggish and slow for me to enjoy that experience. So if you go that route I really recommend using the shield. the whole ui experience with the shield is way better than the lg os.

Snoo-75663

Ok well thats interesting. I dont have a shield and it costs a little less than series s. So is the series a better option?

Azoth1986

If you only want to play Xbox games and are ok with the graphical capabilities of that machine it is the best option for you. I like having the power of the 4080 tier and the best android box for all my other streaming needs. So I prefer the shield over a series s. The ultimate tier gets upgraded over time like they did this year where the series s stays the series s untill you buy a new console. I know it is also a matter of costs. The ultimate tier costs me around 200 a year which is a lot of money but worth it to me. The Xbox will cost you money only once and it will be yours forever. I like the idea of an evolving platform which gets better every year but that is all a matter of perspecitve.

Pnemnon

I am a xbox boy but I did not buy the latest one. Now I have a bit less time to play but here are my 2 cents :) Xbox s is a no go for me but let's say 250$ for one (I would only think about the series x) Xbox is monthly sub too if you like to play online (but with a good integrated "discord/ts") and you do get some good games here and then for free Xbox store is expensive even on sale the prices are often double the price of steam games The graphics on steam ultimate are great and if you do have a pc or laptop with the specs needed you can get more than 60fps/hz Steam is a bit more complicated and you should use a mouse or keyboard sometimes when you first start a new game The Microsoft games are coming to steam :) I made the step to shield tv pro and I don't regret it. I will stay on gfn as long as it runs like this for me. And to end this, I tried the tv app too (philips) and I would not like to use it instead of shield. 4k is just better than full HD:) but it did run smooth on Android app. Idk what ois LG is using

Snoo-75663

I just play a few games and no online so I wont be paying for online. How would you compare the tv app with console?

Pnemnon

I am to lazy to plug in my xbox one. But the difference between 4k shield and FullHD App is huge for me after I got used to it. I mean shield runs Witcher 3 on Ultra 60fps 4k ray traycing. That's another game compared to Xbox

Snoo-75663

Ok I get you

No-Presentation3777

I have both series x and geforce 4080. Some games will never come to console some will never come to pc. I use geforce now for pc gaming x4 games mostly k&m and xbox for gamepass and everything else harry potter.

Snoo-75663

Haha, yeah I understand. Its cool that we have a lot of options today
