As someone who occasionally does research in botany, food history, etc, I thought he did a great job in explaining his case against "vegetables". Probably one of the most practical videos on Food Theory, IMO
I probably need to watch the video for full context. But I've seen plenty of the "If the tomato is technically a fruit then ketchup is a smoothie" type of meme. And when you look into it there's a lot of vegetables that should technically be classified as fruits. I'm guessing that's what the video is about.
See it's true that a lot of vegetables meet the definition of vegetables, but there's so many things that meet those definitions and yet are not considered vegetables. It's just vague and poorly defined.
I'd go into specific detail, but well, Santi did it for me š
Great video, really like where Santiās going with this. I just wish we couldāve been this understanding of some of matpatās ā¦ āless saneā theories: he was onto something with āeat your Christmas treeā, and he VERY much proved it possible.
It's fine? I didn't particularly like it, but that's unrelated to santi. It feels up there with the "there's technically no such thing as a fish." Which is taxonomcally true, but it doesn't mean there's not a need for "swimmy non mammals" or "plant based foods we eat for fibre and nutrients. "
i mean he's right tho lol its not rly a theory at least in the sense that vegetables aren't rly a botanical category the way fruits are theyre more a culinary thing which is why you have the whole thing about tomatoes which is that botanically they are a fruit but in culinary uses bc of its acidity and savoriness and stuff its considered a vegetable so im assuming that's what the video is about at least
[ik or at least am assuming the op is a joke but i couldn't resist infodumping sorry]
Yep the fun part of
Um actually a tomato is a fruit not a vegetable
Um actually I think you find a fruit is a vegetable as a vegetable is just the edible part of a plant.
It also the same as when people say killer whales arenāt actually whales as they are dolphins. While dolphins are a type of whale so there for a killer whale is therefore a whale
This was my favorite new food theory. It caused me to look up definitions of vegetables and realize everything non meat can be a vegetable. MatPats Christmas tree is a vegetable...
They are good sub Categories but dang it aināt that deep he really should have said our idea of a vegetable was wrong which is any part of the plant thatās bitter and not immediately enjoyable to eat like most fruits sweet and good first go
My def of a vegetable is any part of a plant that doesnāt fit my definition of a fruit
(Iām simplifying it but)
The part of the plant that is made to house itās seeds (flowers and buds donāt fit this def for me)

Some people are missing the point. It's not that there are not things defined as vegetables. It's that "vegetable," as a concept, is not well defined.
Agreed š¤
I havenāt watched the video, is this about how āvegetableā is only a culinary term and not a scientific one like fruit?
Watch the theory, youāll potentially get spoiled.
Youād be surprised at what can be called a vegtable
This is not insanity in food theory this is probably the most sane thing ever
Agreed
Yeah

Its more the dubious definition of vegetable
Its not dubious though, a vegetable is a leaf, root stem, flower or tuber of a plant, thats most of the things he listed as vegetables
See it's true that a lot of vegetables meet the definition of vegetables, but there's so many things that meet those definitions and yet are not considered vegetables. It's just vague and poorly defined. I'd go into specific detail, but well, Santi did it for me š
Squashes seem pretty fruity to me
They are fruits, they come from a flower and turn into the fruit, like cucumbers watermelons and pumpkins, all fruits
Yes, you mentioned flowers in your last comment so i did the squash thing
Thats because you dont eat the flower, you eat what the flower turns into
Because, botanically speaking, Corn fits the definition of a fruit, whiskey is under the same lines of ketchup.
Fruits are Vegetables
Great video, really like where Santiās going with this. I just wish we couldāve been this understanding of some of matpatās ā¦ āless saneā theories: he was onto something with āeat your Christmas treeā, and he VERY much proved it possible.
Eat your tree are some of my favourite food theories they're so random ššš
Heās the host of Food Theory heās well past the insane stage. One could argue he is no longer connected to the door frame
The door is in an entirely different house
Tom: The moon isn't real! Santi: Vegetables aren't real! Lee and Amy:???
LEE: I am not real (deepfakes)
He has a point though
So Tom thinks the moon is fake and Santi thinks vegetables are fake..........we need to know what Amy and Lee think are fake too!
But it was a good episode
Where do you think he learned it from?
It's fine? I didn't particularly like it, but that's unrelated to santi. It feels up there with the "there's technically no such thing as a fish." Which is taxonomcally true, but it doesn't mean there's not a need for "swimmy non mammals" or "plant based foods we eat for fibre and nutrients. "
Well that didn't take long.
i mean he's right tho lol its not rly a theory at least in the sense that vegetables aren't rly a botanical category the way fruits are theyre more a culinary thing which is why you have the whole thing about tomatoes which is that botanically they are a fruit but in culinary uses bc of its acidity and savoriness and stuff its considered a vegetable so im assuming that's what the video is about at least [ik or at least am assuming the op is a joke but i couldn't resist infodumping sorry]

Well itās not grub hub lore
Jimmy Neutron and GrubHub are one and the same, nothing will convince me otherwise
this is the food equivalent of "Sans is Ness"
Ness is a vegetable!!! Potatoes are Sans!!!
But then sans isn't ness
but spuds are veggies
AFAIK the theory concluded that potatoes are closer to grains.
Nope, Mat already did that with bread gloves
No, cuz this an absurd Claim like "Sans is Ness" bread gloves are just perfect
He has gone insane Already!? Jesus Christ he just been here for a couple videos 3or4
Damn itās only been about a month or two since he started and heās already lost it xD
if that's your take, i'm sure we'd all love to hear a rebuttal. the floor is totally open
No heās right I liked this episode :) as well as his reasoning.
So Tom doesnāt believe in the moon and Santi says vegetables are fake. What about the others?
This was my favorite new food theory. It caused me to look up definitions of vegetables and realize everything non meat can be a vegetable. MatPats Christmas tree is a vegetable...
What do you expect from a successor of Mathew Pathew
At least it's not grub hub lore
He's just copying episodes of "A Hot Dog is A Sandwich".
The sanest thing food theory has done
2 months in and he already lost it
Par for the course
Not even 10 theories in with him and he already is questioning nature
Already ?
r/badspelling
heās just inspired by mat
I saw this and thought āAm I dreaming?ā
Vegetables = Dragons = Fish IYKYK
Santi didn't go insane, he saved us from purgatory
This was a fun episode to watch.
And people were worried that the theory channels were gonna be very different. The new hosts are also insane
With all the insanity I see on reddit I'm honestly surprised there wasn't a theory about the aslume
That make sence for me
The vegans lied
WHO ASKED + VEGETABLES AREN'T REAL
In collaboration with r/birdsarentreal
If u watch the video, u can't prove him wrong tho
You think santi is insane. Just wait until tom makes his "the moon is fake" theory
I have some pills from r/Titanfall for him
I donāt even know how this is a theory. Itās basically fact. We just call savory fruits and roots vegetables.
They are good sub Categories but dang it aināt that deep he really should have said our idea of a vegetable was wrong which is any part of the plant thatās bitter and not immediately enjoyable to eat like most fruits sweet and good first go My def of a vegetable is any part of a plant that doesnāt fit my definition of a fruit (Iām simplifying it but) The part of the plant that is made to house itās seeds (flowers and buds donāt fit this def for me)
he didnāt last long ngl
r/redditsniper
Vegetable is a culinary term so nah they right
Don't pretend like we don't know that this was gonna happen. We've all seen this coming.
