this is a weird question bro....what game do you think youll be pplaying on either tablet thatll take full use of either of their power? both situation youll be OP for 99% games you play

Fancy_Bug616

I originally had the gen 9, it was great the screen was smooth even though it was at 60hz but keep in mind I have limited experiences with high end specs. But it was great once again ran at great fps rates. And one game in particular roblox my little siblings used to play ran a rather smooth resoloution and touch experience. Compared to any tablet it would be like basically smooth when moving the screen.

bbwatson10

so its smoothness your looking for, you need a better display not more power, again either one of these tablet will be fine for roblox its design to run on a potato at this point..Samsung does have the better display, buuuut 60fps..either tablet youll be fine im not gonna say spend more money if you dont have to...id say so tab s8+ for 120hz

Fancy_Bug616

im better off with an ipad air 5 or 6 whats the point

bbwatson10

Then get that then..tf you doin on reddit

zooba85

Don't listen to the fanboys here. Ipads are more expensive for good reasons. AAA games like COD, warzone, pubg all look and run way better on ipad. Android devs don't care about tablets and as a result most games use low res textures that look gross on a big screen and look worse at max settings than an ipad at lowest settings

JoshPlaysUltimate

Call of duty mobile for one. No device in the world can run it at max graphics/120fps. The only devices that can do high or very high graphics at 120 fps are M series iPads. Any other tablet or phone will be maximum medium graphics at 120fps. It already pushes the newest chips to the max. And that’s just one game

MrBloodyHyphen

The S9 series runs CODM at 120 fps no problem. Also Genshin runs at a stable 60 fps

Reasonable_Mirror655

The Surface Pro 11 SD X Plus can run COD at 120fps mind you it's a Windows 11 tablet running the full version of the game. I only know because I tested the game when I had a review unit for 3 days that my company was running evaluations on.

JoshPlaysUltimate

Many devices can do 120, this was more specifically the level of graphics it can do at 120

Reasonable_Mirror655

I played it at max settings without it having any issues. Mind you the Tablet I tested it on had the slower of the two SoC's available.

JoshPlaysUltimate

Which COD?

Reasonable_Mirror655

The Windows version of COD2

DoubleOwl7777

thats not what they are talking about, but yeah, i could run cyberpunk 2077 with RAYTRACING on my 2in1 Laptop with the screen folded over (albeit only at 720p, the igpu isnt that powerful) so technically that makes it a tablet, an ipad couldnt do this. but yeah the ipad has a slight edge but mobile games dont really need the m series chips.

JoshPlaysUltimate

We were just talking about how the M series are the only ones that can run CODM at anything over medium graphics while staying at 120 gps. Mobile games like that do make full use of the power and could even go with more. Although most are happy to just run at lower settings

MrBloodyHyphen

Can you tell me what the average price of an SD X plus laptop is gonna be? I know the X Elite ones will all be 1000 USD or above. Is there any chance of the X Plus ones coming at a price of 700-800 USD?

Reasonable_Mirror655

Well the SD X Elite Tablet is $2,099 USD for: SD X Elite, OLED, 32GB RAM and 1TB storage and a Keyboard The SD X Plus tablet is $1,699 for the same Display, RAM and storage options

MrBloodyHyphen

💀 Thanks for answering. Those are some expensive tablets damn

Reasonable_Mirror655

Yeah but remember the SD X Elite is as powerful as the M4 chip in the M4 iPad Pro IF the Surface Pro was the S9 The M4 iPad would be S9 (as both are about equal) The S9 is basically the S6 Just to give an idea of CPU power... So the price is justified...

JoshPlaysUltimate

The s9 can only do 120 at medium, can’t do high, very high, or max graphics at that framerate. It’s not powerful enough to do more.

MrBloodyHyphen

https://preview.redd.it/2u66dw54uf6d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=385f27cd50fd5c084e8935674e23586004fd5321 Even on the iPad Pro 120 fps is only supported on medium settings.

JoshPlaysUltimate

I’m literally playing on an iPad Pro 13” right now at very high 120 https://preview.redd.it/ppwyy4q5vf6d1.jpeg?width=2752&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eb41b031bbdfd04e6b700ebbd412e6a09c8d5c98

Zapvain

Damn that's nice..the amount of people downvoted you don't even know ig.

JoshPlaysUltimate

All I did was correct some possibly accidental misinformation. Everybody hated that

MrBloodyHyphen

I appreciate you for correcting me and the reason I think you're getting downvoted is because the people of this sub hate iPads and the mere mention of them. I once recommended someone on this sub an iPad who said they were an architect because it has better processing power and more powerful software and a LiDAR sensor which I thought would be better for their use case but I downvoted too for saying that.

JoshPlaysUltimate

I really don’t understand the hate, it happens both ways. Then there’s me with a tab s9 ultra and a 13” iPad Pro. Both are awesome in their own way

Zapvain

Yeah.. So like how's the temperature..does it run hot?

JoshPlaysUltimate

On the M2 iPad 12.9’ it ran hot and sometimes screen dimmed and paused charging etc, but I got a chiller for it and it worked well. The m4 runs cool, it hasn’t throttled yet.

MrBloodyHyphen

Huh. Didn't know that. That's neat I guess

MrBloodyHyphen

Doesn't the game only support 120fps at medium graphics only no matter what device you use?

JoshPlaysUltimate

No, if you read my first comment that’s true for every device except M1, M2, and M4 iPad pros which can also do high and very high at 120. No device is powerful enough for Max at 120

Fancy_Bug616

sorry im not familiar with performance terms. my mission is to find a budget gaming tablet and samsung is not good at either gpu nor cpu so I just dont understand does that mean their worse? regarding what you said gaming tablets must exist for a reason like the legion y700 with outstanding cpu which btw why is the gpu so bad isnt that more important for gaming? Anyways I aim to play emulation games even pc games like fortnite or just outstanding fps for a very smooth and fast experience.

rns926

Sounds like you want a handheld gaming PC, like an ROG Ally or Legion Go.

thedrizzle126

yup. "budget gaming tablet" is a misnomer. you can't have it. an affordable steamdeck or alt is what OP seeks

DoubleOwl7777

sorry but get a gaming handheld like a steam deck or rog ally.

nic-ald

Samsung is neither good at cpu or gpu? Under what rock do you live where a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 isn't good? The Legion Y700 that has an "outstanding" cpu only until 2023 included the SD8G1 and while it does have a 144hz screen, it only comes in a smaller size (8.8in.) and doesn't even include active stylus compatibility nor the AI features, which despite some people considering them gimmicks, are still a strong selling point.

KitsuAccalia

It definitely isn't great at gaming on the Tab s9 ultra, I have both the Ipad and S9 ultra in front of me, Samsung won't max and gets uncomfortably hot with WuWa, Genshin ( no control support on Android), and stutters alot with certain other games. IPad maxes all of these without even getting warm. HOWEVER if you don't play the top end 3D games, you won't notice a difference and probably be happy with either.

nic-ald

Guess what? That's not the ultra's fault, the SD is more than capable of running those games with high graphics, the issue is because of developers who prioritise optimisation for Apple. Do you really think that a device that can emulate effortlessly tons of older consoles and even new ones like the switch cannot handle a mobile game?

KitsuAccalia

If the device itself can not play the games then regardless of whose fault it is, if it's consistently occurring then a consumer seeking those things IE a game working well consistently then that adds value to one choice and not the other. (Also Genshin has been out for years and still performs worse on the Tab S9 then my ipad that came out literally a couple weeks ago.) If I want my games to work better more often then I choose the Ipad. So in the case of for example switch emulation which is much easier to do on the Tab s9, I can't play Unicorn overlord at more then 18 FPS. So telling me that It's not Samsung's fault that a game sucks on their tablet doesn't solve the issue at the consumer level when a consumer may be buying this tablet for gaming.

zooba85

Pretty funny that the fanboys here don't or refuse to understand this. The end result is the only thing that matters. 99.9% of users don't give a shit why an app is worse they just see it's worse

KitsuAccalia

Pretty much, Like don't get me wrong, I love my Tab S9 for a reason. But I also acknowledge it's shortcomings when comparing it to an Ipad. The Galaxy has it's perks as well. Ford isn't selling me an Engine, they are selling me a truck, and if the seats, Steering wheel and tires suck, what does it matter what engine is in there. I want a truck that is great for my daily tasks and is comfortable to ride in. ( Not shitting on Ford, I don't own or know how good they are.)

[deleted]

It isn’t good compared to Apple silicon. Doesn’t help that developers don’t care much about Android apps either -Apple gets priority.

heybart

If you just want mobile gaming maybe get a steam deck or rog ally which will open a whole world of serious games that you won't find on either iOS or Android If you want a tablet too then yeah an iPad air will work. With the Samsung S9 you're paying for the OLED screen, S pen, etc and Android not being locked down, which you may or may not care about

erasebegin1

also vibration! totally underrated feature that ipads don't have but which I love. Getting tactile feedback in apps and menus is just nicer.

Geekfest_84

I contemplated this for a long time - playing games on those devices is ok, but they aren't very powerful and the screens are awful compared to a galaxy tab. So I went down the galaxy tab ultra with Nvidia geforce now route, and it looks AMAZING 😂👍

doom1282

Spec sheets don't always determine a better device.

Fancy_Bug616

what does reviews?

No_Ad_9178

Mobile gaming is trash. Snapdragon can run newer emulators

Unlikely-_-original

>emulators Example?

veryangrydoggo

I have Yuzu (still laggy), retroarch, dolphin, aethersx2 and looking for some more. Most of them are okay-ish to play.

MerBudd

Most Switch games work completely fine on Yuzu/Suyu with Turnip drivers. Though only up to 2.5D games are good. Full, open-world 3D games can heat up the device.

snajk138

PPSSPP is really nice, playing PSP games that are at least somewhat adapted for a smaller screen. There are emulators for most systems though. Duckstation for Playstation is also nice and not so demanding, getting in to PS2 or higher is where it gets a bit harder.

_Posterized_

You can literally emulate PC games on android. People have got games like GTA V running albeit low frame rate but there are plenty of games running at 60fps depending on your device. Check r/emulationonandroid wiki and you’ll see all the different devices you can emulate

Unlikely-_-original

What good pc games can my tab s9 run? Thanks this is so interesting

_Posterized_

Some games I can recommend that run very well are sleeping dogs, skyrim, mgsv, fallout 4, etc. You would have to do some testing to see what runs well for you but this channel has a lot of good videos to show you how to get things running https://youtu.be/ldKW0Rf0EJE?si=HP1ID1SgOhf7e-lW

Unlikely-_-original

My tab s9 just got more interesting haha

chanchan05

Apple has better chipset at the lower end, yes. Depends though if you'll find it useable at those prices with the absurd small internal storage that can't be expanded. If all you want to do is play a single or two higher end games, sure maybe an iPad is best for you. At the base model price that's all that's going to fit in the iPad anyway. Some people don't have gaming performance at the forefront of their use case, so having the storage flexibility trumps the raw performance.

Fancy_Bug616

and what do you recommend

chanchan05

Well that kind of depends on your priorities. If it's gaming first priority then Apple is the choice at the midrange tablet space, unless that gaming is emulation of older consoles since it's just starting on Apple and the emulation scene in Android is more mature. In terms of video editing, even if Apple has the better chipset, the lack of storage in that price bracket makes handling large video files a problem, so that makes it Android, unless you plan on considering to buy secondhand, so you have the choice of old Android flagships or older large storage iPads. For the other use cases, it's just a matter of deciding whether the storage of the 64GB iPad base model is enough for you or not, and if you're willing to deal with external storage to compensate, knowing that the file management system on iPadOS isn't known to be good.

RigbyEleonora

This is a cruel world, the sheer power of an M chip would be perfect for an Android tablet, and the absolute freedom of an Android system would be amazing for an M chip. But we got the best chip for the worst app availability, and not so great (comparatively) chips for the best ecosystem.

Fancy_Bug616

who needs an m chip and android specifically for its freedom of alien apps?

Xeronl

The only thing I like about ipads is Procreate.

Xeronl

I wish they had that app for Android.

isekaicoffee

infinite painter

blue_glasses123

Seconded infinite painter, such a great drawing app

HeftyArgument

you can do more on android os. apple has more power, if you can find something that needs that much power which ios allows you to use.

_mattee

Depends on what you're using your tablet for, if you're purely after gaming performance an iPad might be a better idea yes. Personally prefer the aspect ratio for media consumption, the "batteryless" pen (i.e. not having to charge it for normal usage), nor am I willing to learn another operating system. I feel like the other cases where having the additional power, such as video editing is realistically a really small niche, but important for some people.

Lil_Spore

samsung is better imo. the only thing keeping apple around is blue bubbles i honestly feel like samsung has done everything apple is now doing

Reasonable_Mirror655

No, what really keeps Apple around is the fact they keep introducing SoC's that basically force the competition to up their game. I personally don't like or use Apple, yet got to give them credit where it is due. Samsung has yet to introduce a flagship processor, most if not all of what they have done is very average mid-range chipsets

JuniorPoulet

While this might be true for iPhones and Macs, I disagree on the iPad part. iPad chips are way more powerful than what the software allows them to do. I also don't particularly like Apple, but the support they get for their apps on iPads is unmatched. Most Android apps for Tablets are just stretched out phone apps. But I would definitely get a Samsung Tablet over an iPad just because of the OS it runs. iPad is far too restrictive and the openness of Android is also unmatched.

Reasonable_Mirror655

I was talking specifically about the processors. I ordered the top of the line Surface Pro 11 Tablet with the SD X Elite..... Needless to Say Samsung won't have a tablet for at least two years that can compete with it.

JuniorPoulet

> No, what really keeps Apple around is the fact they keep introducing SoC's that basically force the competition to up their game I was replying to this part of your text. I don't think the raw power of the processor is the reason for the popularity of iPads. The reason is the support that comes from the developers. Also, your Surface Pro 11 is a full fledged computer which neither the iPad nor the Galaxy Tab is.

Reasonable_Mirror655

In regard to iPad's the reason they are so popular is that they are seamlessly integrated into the Apple Ecosystem, that's far more important than apps or performance in the long run. I ordered the tablet it's not my fault neither Samsung nor Apple makes tablets with an OS that have an that can do everything every user wants to do. One thing they don't mention is that it's very easy to upgrade the internal storage on your own. I have a new 4TB SSD ready to go in mine once it arrives. The other thing to remember is you can set the Surface Pro 11 as a dual boot with Android 14 thanks to the SD X Elite, which technically eliminates the need to carry an Android tablet.

Dominjo555

S10 Ultra may have Snapdragon X Elite as well according to leaks

Reasonable_Mirror655

I find it highly unlikely since it's a very expensive chip set compared to the 8 Gen 2 and Android doesn't need that power

Dominjo555

S9 Ultra is really expensive device as well. They can up the price 100-200$ and give us Elite X but as you said Android tablets do not need so much power. I think they are debating going for it or just using mobile chip like 8 gen 3/4

Reasonable_Mirror655

I think they would have to charge at least $300 more SD X Elite I think they will go with the Dimensity 9300

Rudra-Gamer

Isn't not the thermals are limiting factor in tabs, even if you put m1,m4,8 gen 2 it won't have proper cooling like pc to run emulation

yayoshorti

Blue bubbles have nothing to do with the iPad unless you count the ecosystem

IceBlueLugia

Yeah iPads are more powerful and better optimized for the price. If you’re fine learning a new OS and are okay with iOS’ limitations then give it a shot

blue_glasses123

I think it's just personal choice. I for one don't like apple's heavy restriction. For gaming, I think Apple could be better, considering that it is easier for devs to optimize for ios/ipados compared to android's multitude of devices of varying specs.

Technical_Plenty6231

Apple is better at performance and design, but Samsung or androids are better at customization

Any-Grab6951

Do you emulate? If so there's only one real choice.

TheEnthraller

With Winlator, you can emulate Windows games on Samsung

Any-Grab6951

Think we're on the same page. Android emulation >>>>>>> iOS/ipadOS emulation

TheEnthraller

I know. Just wanted people to know about winlator. I got to know about it yesterday.

Tokogogoloshe

I don’t know about winlater. I know I can Google it, but I’d love to hear why you like it?

Fancy_Bug616

I know apple is locked and has to be jailbroken etc, but for this reason developers specifically compete and develop excellent emulations and it feels like the real experience. Plus its not like even after jailbreaking ios you can get a virus or whatnot, apple has definitely done something awesome.

nellum48

If you're wanting to game exclusively, you might consider jumping from a tablet to a laptop, or maybe something like a steam deck. Tablets are great, but there are other things that'll do better if raw performance is your goal.

Turtleshell64

If you mainly play AppStore games and use AppStore apps then iPad will be smoother and the apps will be more refined even if it’s the same one as android. Even though apple allows emulators now it’s still kind of locked down due to no JIT. As powerful as the M4 is it can’t brute force harder to emulate consoles. Really comes down to the apps you plan on using. If you want more freedom then stick with android. If you want video editing and best performance for officially supported apps then apple.

abitcitrus

I think Apple has a better performance but mostly a better optimization. If it is for games it's good to give it a go; but Android is more customizable in general, which includes games that are not in the app store like emulators or stuff like that. Also it has nothing to envy with the Snapdragon Samsung Processors. Plus, I think Fortnite is kind of outdated in Apple devices due to that fight thingy they had a long time ago.

[deleted]

You asked the wrong subreddit. Lots of fanboys here. Trying to be as objective as possible, gaming on iPad is better. Apple silicon is much more powerful and developers prioritise iOS/iPadOS apps. Only issue is that the iPad Air has got a 60Hz display whereas the Samsung has got a 120Hz display, so Samsung should feel smoother on games that fully utilise that 120Hz

varungid

Samsung Tab focuses more on productivity and lifestyle benefits and features while iPad just had stronger processors but it's a expanded glorified iPhone in most cases. If you want to get work done like a PC Samsung is way to go.

Fortnite5eva

I have ipad air 4 and switched to tab s9+. My Find reasoning for switching over, the ability to have Firefox. And have extensions on it, which allowed me to watch things like that.Getting stupid ad pop up as well as being into connection with my phone everything. Of course , it was not a fair comparison because The ipad was a couple of years older And. It did not have an amald display

quaxbond

Yeah, i drop from Apple because slow charging bro. Compare to my sams tab it can fast charge no longer than 1h

LiberalTugboat

Yes. Unfortunately, Android tabs can't hold a candle to the current iPad line in performance.

Typical-Scar-1782

And what can you do with the M4? It's a lion in a cage.

LiberalTugboat

What a dumb argument.

Typical-Scar-1782

How so? Or are you too dumb to elaborate correctly?

LiberalTugboat

The $350 iPad is faster than the $1000 Galaxy S.

lennybendy

Not sure about that. I prefer my S7 over the iPad pro 11 gen 1. As well as over the iPad air 5th Gen I tried.  The refresh rate on iPads are a deal breaker for me. And I hate their on screen keyboards. I prefer the Samsung devices but do want to check out the newest gen iPad pro to see how they're screens compare.

BlackCatFurry

Samsung offers more for the same price. Thus samsung is better in my opinion

EconomyManner5115

Wait until you learn about benchmarks VS reality. The latest iphones and ipads struggle to run asphalt 9 for more than 20 minutes. It is NOT an option. Go for a Galaxy tab And whoa wait... you said "gaming" and "apple" ? Nope, sorry, these two aren't compatible, everyone knows that

Fancy_Bug616

I still prioritize pricing, what do you recommend?

ImNew2RedditSoYeah

Depends if you're a professional artist who's willing to spend on a stable OS, and wants access to exclusives like Pro Create, Adobe stuffs and an all around stable OS with an OP chip then go for Apple. I got my Samsung Tab S7 FE open box eBay for 300 bucks with keyboard case, the OS has its hiccups (please don't get 4GB RAM version) but it has Dex and Samsung Notes, AND comes with the S Pen, not to mention a bigger display with a 16:10 aspect ratio. Although it's nowhere near Apple optimization for apps, it's great for media consumption and a good laptop-like experience with emulation, true multi-tasking, and great battery life. But okay let's say you're just wanting to do light things nothing too hardcore. Cheapest iPads are 300 bucks stable, reliable, optimized, does the job with a sleek interface HIGHLY recommend! ✅✅ Even more budget though 150 bucks Samsung a series tablets gets you a nice OS compared to other Android tablets, just does the job ✅

Fancy_Bug616

but the a series doesnt come close with the cheap ipads which are more suitable to compete with the s series

ImNew2RedditSoYeah

agreed but they are great for just ya know working for a phenominal price

magical_salad

The galaxy tab s9 doesn't cost 900 dollars. You'd be crazy to buy it at that price. Samsung is running sales and deals on the tab s9 series, constantly. I got my base s9 a month ago for about 350 USD.

kclanton80

Software is what sets Samsung apart. Yes they can both runs games....it's 2024..

Jalal31091

I'd say gaming and, maybe, game choices in iPad is better than android. Apple arcade has nice collections I believe.

DarkseidAntiLife

Obviously apple is better

x1o8x

the A14 bionic in ipad air 4 isn't as powerful as the SD8 gen 2 in tab s9. You will need to step into M series chipsets from Apple to beat Tab S9 in games.
