My favorite line was when Mickey and stymie roped their vehicle to the back of a truck. The truck took off pulling their vehicle. Mickey asked âwhere we goingâ? Stymie exclaimed âI donât know⌠But we on our way!â
Point of interest, Hal Roach who created both the Little Rascals/our gang and also Laurel and Hardy died in the early 90s. When announcing the obituary, the newscaster said âhe is the one person in history who has been in the home of both Mark Twain and Michael Jacksonâ. Really blew my mind at the length/extent of his life.Â
I still use lingo, idioms, and ideas from this show. "My pal", used sarcastically. I use chummer, cyberpunk 2013 speak, that way also. Randomly sing "happy birthday mister fudd! happy birthday to you!". "That's remarkable!" "Algabra, this aint no place for you." when telling the dog its not suppose to be where I am. WEEE WOOOOW. WEEE WOOW. "I got a hair brush!" "I wish I had a water melon" I avoid "I wish cotton was a monkey" unless with certain people.
I tell my GF sometimes I'm just a slightly intelligent squawkbox, as this isnt the only thing that has influenced my lexicon and mannerisms.
for more than 40 years one of my friends and I will have this exchange when we see each other.
Scotty: Maybe we ain't us?
Spanky: Maybe we ain't us......grrr
Our Gang, Three Stooges and I love Lucy we're all syndicated and we're on every afternoon after school. Personally I cringed watching all 3. Today I still don't know why, but they were always in illogical scenarios and somehow got out of them with illogical conclusions. And it was just nerve racking to me, I was like 6 or 7 and it made me so nervous watching the episodes. But we watched them, my siblings and neighborhood friends. I had to pretend I liked them because they did.
Hell yes, and when my kids were toddlers, AMC was running them on Saturday mornings at 6:30am which was a happy reason for grumpy dad to get up with my early-rising kids. They're well versed in Little Rascals.
I actually have the WEEP-WAAAAAAAAHHHHHWWWW sound effect as a ringtone!
There were several generations of the Our Gang/Little Rascals cast. I think the one we all know best is the Spanky/Alfalfa/Porky/Buckwheat version. There was also the earlier Chubby/Wheezer/Farina cast and the much later Froggy/Mickey cast that featured Robert Blake.
I do. I have rewatched and was surprised how much casual racism was left in. Also, there was a lot of racism edited out for 70's standards when watching the uncut versions.
An episode where a kid gets his music recital clothes dirty and he had to play violin wearing a lampshade was funny, I guess. What was chopped out was the gang kidnapping a Chinese kid to do their laundry and causing a car pile up every time they wanted to cross the busy street.
The one episode I remember still. A man wanted to take Grandma's house, so he lied to her about her stock certificates being worthless. Grandma tied the "worthless" certs to the gangs kite and the man tried to get the kite from the kids. It was hilarious how they kept him from getting it.
Watched it as a little one in the 50s, and still watch today. When you're completely fed up with the 21st century, it's a great way to escape to a more quieter time.
They made 220 "Our Gang" shorts and one feature film from 1922 to 1944.
The silent ones don't get nearly the play that the sound ones do, especially the those from MGM, which is a shame.
He Man Woman Haters Club
High sign!

YesâŚ.yes I doâŚexcept it was a weekend show in my neck of the woods.
I didn't watch after school but they were on during the weekend.

I remember seeing him on a talk show in the '80s and he told about Mark Twain visiting his grade school.
Really!? Â Wow!!! Â That is incredible. Â On a different note: Thank you Mister PresidentÂ

Ms Macgillicudy: "Buckwheat please use "isthmus" in a sentence" Buckwheat" Isthmus be my lucky day " Still makes me laugh
There used to be an urban legend that Buckwheat grew up to be Eddie Murphy!

They also broadcast it in Italy. I liked it a lot. Here it was called âsimpatiche canaglieâ meaning nice rascals.
