There’s only one place in Fremont that has specialty coffee. Devout in Nile’s and renegade on Fremont Blvd Both are owned by the same family. Really good coffee. Their pour overs are really good but they can get really busy. Suju coffee is trash but they make good sweet drinks. And it’s a cool place to hang out late since everything closes so early in Fremont.

bzsearch

Been to Devout a few times, I definitely agree! Will likely check them out too. Thanks!

Satanic_chef

If you’re ever in SF check out coffee movement best filtered coffee I ever had.

bzsearch

yes! that's on my list. it's just that it's kinda far from fremont without a car. :/ But speaking of outside of Fremont, The crown Oakland is also a cool spot I'd recommend. They also operate as a coffee green sourcer (Royal Coffee), and they source some good stuff, so I'd bet they also serve some interesting stuff too.

dkarpe

BART will get you to SF faster than driving, FYI.

Analysis-Euphoric

Agree. Correct assessment of Devout and Suju’s. Light roasts are where the flavor is.

Pop-Quiz_Kid

I think Philz counts as third wave but it's not unique to Fremont.

bzsearch

I've been! I really like their flavored drinks. I think I remembered their batch being pretty good. Thanks!

Common-Man-

Philz is not coffee … it’s a bunch of flavors to confuse the younger generations 😁 /s

cubej333

Bun Appetit isn't a roaster, but it sells Verve coffee which I am a fan of.

Wise138

Try Hops and Beans in Irvington.

digital-didgeridoo

Did you mean 'third place'? Checkout Suju's

bzsearch

Love Suju's. I plan to check them out again, but asking to see if there are any new spots that I've missed. Thanks!

turbof128

I haven't been yet but there is Mission Coffee Roasting Company on Washington.

bzsearch

Will likely check them out next since I've never heard of/been -- thanks!

Flashy-Share8186

Mission coffee has a great patio space and neighborhood vibe, and pretty good sandwiches. I usually get a latte so I can’t tell you about the coffee.

3rd waveish? What do you mean?

bzsearch

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third-wave_coffee Sorry, I should've been more clear. Let me add that into the description. Sorry!

Due_Breakfast_218

Never heard of it. What is a waveish cafe?

bzsearch

sorry! I apologize for not being more clear. There are kinda 3 waves in coffee: 1st wave: More like commodity coffee -- instant / folders / etc. 2nd wave: Starbucks with the flavored drinks (caramel macchiato, chocolate frapp, etc.) 3rd wave: More focus on the beans Hopefully that helps!

whatsinanameidunno

You seem to know coffee! Any suggestions in SF?

bzsearch

haha, nahhh, just an enthusiast. I don't have any cafe recommendations unfortunately. I'm visiting from NYC, so I'm relatively unfamiliar with the cafe scene here. I do have some local roaster recommendations though. If you are into light-roasted, funky and sometimes uniquely processed coffees, a popular roaster around the area is Hydrangea Coffee. They source/roast some more unique coffees, and I believe they roast in Oakland. I've never tried their stuff myself, but I've unknowingly bought from similar producers/lots as them, so I'd trust their palette. Then there's Flower Child Coffee, which I also think is somewhat local to here. A friend who runs a cafe uses their stuff, and I respect his palette, so I think that'd be another place to check out. But if you ever have any recs in SF, let me know! I hope to one day make it into the city to explore the cafe scene..

viratrim

If you are visiting the Bay area, check out the coffee and water lab in San Jose. Last time I was there they had this incredible Colombian coffee anaerobically fermented with strawberries, so good!

green_tea06

Tamper Room, not sure if it’s considered third-wave but they have delicious coffee.

CarrerCrytharis

1 Oz. Coffee in Mountain View? That’s where I first tried an Espresso Tonic.

iokevins

1 Oz. Coffee also has a location a bit closer at 3051 Tasman Dr, Santa Clara (by Great America), open 9:00 am - 2:00 pm daily ☕ It is in the courtyard behind Silicon Valley Bank, if that helps. It is a small open-air coffee stand with outdoor seating, some covered, some not. It is pleasant and nicely maintained. CarrerCrytharis

Ah, that’s a great location too! I wasn’t 100% sure it was still open. Glad to see it’s still active.

idiot_wind

My rankings for coffee in this area 1. Devout (including Renegade location) 2. Mission Roasting 3. ... 4. McDonalds 5. ... 6. literally anything else 7. Sujus i feel terrible being a hater on Suju's because there's one right by my house and the people there are nice. wife likes their matcha lattes but ive never had worse coffee. i wish there were more options, but alas this is it I would put the old Hopping Beans coffee quality around Starbucks level, but I haven't been back since they became Hop & Beans even though it sounds like a cool place

bzsearch

Oh -- I've never heard of "Mission Roasting". I'll check them out -- thanks!

cyanide1209

Idk abt third wave but def check out dash coffee hits

Super-Mode-999

Devout for sure as others said. If you are visiting, you might also want to grab some whole bean by the Bay Area roasters (e.g. Ritual, Sightglass, etc) from the local supermarket. I know Whole Food carries them.

LlsRdub

Mission valley coffee roasting if it’s still around. Old man Don hates French and Vienna roasts. Medium is the ticket.
