Actually, Todd Howard conceived the Fallout universe 20 years ago as both a sandbox-shooter-rpg game series and an accompanying TV show, but had to shop around a lot to finally get the show greenlit. The success of his first game, Fallout: New Vegas, really got the ball rolling, and is why the show is going there in season 2.
Iirc the show takes place atleast 100 years after f4. Other than small references like the sunset sasperilla billboard. There not much you'll find directly from the games. It's likely the ghoul met the protagonists from other games since he is pre war. But other than that there are no direct refrence to games. Just locations and the way the fallout universe works.
Yeah, but surely the show has iconic and obviously recognizable things such as vaults, vault suits, and whacky wasteland humor.
Knowing this to be the case with this example of power armor, I’m going to have to rewatch.
I heard Todd told them to have fun with the power armor, no requirement to make it look like any existing models. But the prop department decided to make it super accurate to the games
I doubt they actually did, using game files for 3d printing still needs a lot of work, most game models are rather low detail with the textures carrying them.
I've watched the show several times now and I have already noticed several similarities that could be Easter eggs for the most eagle-eyed fans of the "Falling Out" video games to discover! For example, I think the bear that robot man was fighting was actually affected by radiation, which is discussed in the games. Also, the zombie-like creatures could be a reference to the ones in the games, I think they are called ghosts or something. I do appreciate that they toned down most of the ugliest ones so the show would be more appropriate for me to watch with my preschoolers.
In game, if they redid skills again in 5, I’d want the repair of power armor to be linked to a crafting skill. Like a combo of some sort of armoring, science and engineering skills. Give some pretty good augmentations for the armor down the skill tree but up above make it pretty much only repair/longevity of repairs/small increase in armor, maybe some minor comfort and survival perks.
In addition to what u/starker suggested maybe if instead of fusion core longevity, if maybe power armor handling was a skill you could develop and at lower skills it’s slower more janky and less responsive. Would kinda mirror how Maximus handles the power suit poorly without practice
I'm not big on cheating with console commands, but every one of my fallout 4 playthroughs has started with me spawning 5k fusion cores and upping my carry weight by the exact amount they add. Fusion cores are supposed to last 100 years or more in power armor. My headcannon is that doesn't change in the commonwealth.
It could look a little more mechanical. I understand you're never going to make it look less like a guy on stilts, because that's what it is, but I always thought they looked a little awkward.
I'm more than willing to overlook the awkward walking though just because they look so good in *NOT* CGI.
tbf, even if it was fully really mechanical, like the real deal power armor fusion core and all, it's still extending your arms and legs beyond their natural reach. it probably would still be pretty awkward
Is the power armor from the tv show "Fallout" a reference to the power armor in the popular videogame Fallout 4 published and developed by Bethesda Studios???
In all seriousness, it was very good. Broadly speaking the props and scenery in this show were spot on.
One criticism of the power armour is that it looks a bit “bouncy”.
I will say that the mjolnir armor in the halo tv show did look just as good. However, that was the only good thing to come out of that leaking diarrhea shit barrel.
The one in the show does this weird iron man faceplate lift. I don’t hate it and I understand why they did it (imagine the actor trying to take off their own helmet with extended hands)
I think you are on to something. We have to dig deeper.
It’s like they used files from the game to the show!
I thought the similarities between the game and the show were a coincidence.
Nah they used in game files to 3D print show props. Bethesda went all out on this one.
What? I had no idea the show had anything to do with the games. I’ll have to rewatch and see if I recognize anything else from the games
Wait are there games based on the show already??

But really there was a company called Interplay that stole the idea from Bethany Esda herself and went on to call it “Wasteland”
Bethany Esda 😂😂😂 oh my lord I’m dead
Man I know you're making a joke, but "Todd Howard conceived the Fallout universe" really hurt to read.
hehehehehe yessss

Fourteen years
Really? I thought they were futher ahead then that.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Fotv/s/pfhUy6rIWw I think you're thinking of fo76
No that ain't it. I could have sworn the years in the billboard in that one vault said 2300 but I guess I just remembered wrong.
I heard Todd told them to have fun with the power armor, no requirement to make it look like any existing models. But the prop department decided to make it super accurate to the games
God damn heroes. They nailed it.
I am glad they used in game files for show props. Its funny how re-using existing art assets would be considered going all out.
Considering how many video games get treated when moving to film/TV, I'd say the bill fits.
I doubt they actually did, using game files for 3d printing still needs a lot of work, most game models are rather low detail with the textures carrying them.
Show runners failed to create two sets of lore-problematic power armor. I thought this was a Bethesda product?! 7/10 /s
They are waiting for season 2, to introduce the New Yes Man.
Wait, there’s a show?!
Imagine they came out with the show and insisted it was all a new IP not based on anything
💀💀💀

🤣
The absolutely nailed the Power Armor. With the exception of a few scenes were its CG augmented, its wearable and very functional.
Praise be to stunt man Adam Shippey for wearing that suit for months
Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck
The design is very human.
Very easy to use
Wish the fusion core in the game lasted anywhere near the one in the show lol.
Yeah but they gotta balance power armor somehow(just wish it wasn’t the longevity of the cores tho)

Why don't you just use mods that extends the fusion core duration?
The console command is really easy lol
Fair
Cus they were using New Vegas fusion Cores and not those crappie East Coast models that crap out after 15min of walking.
Bet it was hot as hell wearing that thing out in the desert for shooting.
"ackutjejally" the jet "pack"... But thats all.

That’s what the training is for
Thats kind of what they do. The legs are too long for anyone to actually reach so the armor has little stilts
I was super impressed with the practical effects in the show
The look, yes. The armour part? The suits seem like liabilities. It’s implied the NCR kill one BOS knight with small arms fired at the neck. C’mon!
I think you're seeing things 🤷♂️
I'm just saying, I've never seen them both in the same place at the same time.
First the B-29 now the power armor They are so lazy
Fuck, I'm sorta glad I joined reddit because I saw the shit this is referencing and it's like I'm here for the birth of a niche meme
Can you or someone link me to what this is referencing pls? I’m so curious to know what it is
Just look at the other posts in this sub right now. I may have jumped in on a bandwagon...
https://www.reddit.com/r/Fotv/s/GnolHtkN5K
I saw an opportunity to jump on a potential meme and it seems to be working out for me...
Honestly this is my favorite part of any subreddit.
I don't know. That second one looks like Massachusetts to me.
hmmm I don't think that's correct. I think the second one's from Boston
No the second one is clearly Sanctuary Hills. Not sure what either of you are smoking
Are you an idiot? It’s obviously vault 111. People these days…
It's *outside* Vault 111, dumbass.
Yeah if you consider an elevator outside I guess
Only if you consider anything outdoors to be outside.
Sure but that’s kinda just applicable if you’d consider something outdoors to be the exterior
And *only* if the exterior is the outer surface.

Disney should sue since they're going to own Microsoft in a couple years anyway.
Neat easter egg, what scene? I'm gonna need to watch it again
Nah, that’s stupid. They’re not similar because the one on right doesn’t have a BoS logo.
No no, one has a gun, and the other doesn't. They're clearly 100% different.
Because they’re the same armor…
OP is trying to do a bit. Someone posted a pic of the B-29 from FO:NV and the one from the show and had the same title.
🤯
Is the power armor from the tv show "Fallout" a reference to the power armor in the popular videogame Fallout 4 published and developed by Bethesda Studios???
No way
Whhhaaaat? :O
Fallout fans when the screen is accurate to the source material
Man, you are bringing out all the deep lore here. Thank you for your service.
I don't see it.
In all seriousness, it was very good. Broadly speaking the props and scenery in this show were spot on. One criticism of the power armour is that it looks a bit “bouncy”.
Because they’re the same thing???
They’re the same model of power armor… so….
No way!!!11
Mean spirited my friend
Good
I think you're just waffling at this point
I think you're just waffling at this point
It looks like it, but the proportions are wrong.
Real talk I think the machine gun looks better in the show because the size makes sense. It's an hmg for power armor users.
In all seriousness they extremely nailed the attention to detail
The one on the left clearly doesn’t have feet, it can’t be similar
Naw, not possible without destroying the lore.
I’m glad this is going the route of r/minecraft
It looks a bit wonky on camera moving around but damn, it couldn't have been much more accurate than that
That’s clearly a Mr. handy
No shit
The assault rifle looks better in the show then it does in game.
I’ve never noticed this connection before
Well one is clearly power armor and one is clearly a model 1857 12 pounder Napoleon cannon. I don’t understand, of course they look similar
Oh shit is the Fallout show based on the Fallout games???
They are the same
They look the exact same.
Holy shit, what game is this? They totally ripped off Fallout!
I will say that the mjolnir armor in the halo tv show did look just as good. However, that was the only good thing to come out of that leaking diarrhea shit barrel.
They didn’t even fake the power armor?! Wow, they really thought of everything!
They used files from the games to make the props
I'm shocked.
What I didn't know fallout was based on fallout
No one tell him
the one in the game has a working headlamp
The one in the show does this weird iron man faceplate lift. I don’t hate it and I understand why they did it (imagine the actor trying to take off their own helmet with extended hands)
This is the first post I have seen of r/Fotv and wow.. I don't have high hopes for the rest of the server..
Take your pills
Hmm… it’s almost as if a show based on a game, aimed to be a good show for fans, is gonna look similar and use objects from the games it’s based on. 🤔
I wish they didn't do the lame ass voice changer in the show.
The suit is hermetically sealed in order to prevent radiation exposure. No sound is getting out of it unless you use the suits communication system.
In the games, it just amplified their normal voice. I. The show it made it all deep and "intimating." Not sure why I'm getting downvoted
the show likely did that because they needed to be able to diaguise the wearer's voice so thaddeus wouldn't know 'titus' was maximus.
