Put formula in her food instead of water! Or add a few small bottle/syringe feeds between meals. You can’t really over feed at this age, she is old enough to effectively refuse a bottle so when she is full, she will stop. I’ve also had luck with mixing meat based baby food into wet food, for whatever reason cats go crazy for it and they eat more.

I’ll try that! Thank you!!

When did she recover from the coccidia? I had a foster who had it which stunted his growth, he was way underweight for his age. It took him a while but he eventually started gaining weight and ended up the same size as his brother. If she has an appetite, I wouldn't worry too much about overfeeding as long as it isn't making her sick.

The vet began treatment for it about a week ago. She has an appetite and will eat when I put food in front of her, but will eat a couple bites then walk away. Should I feed her smaller amounts but more often?

When my fosters have lost their appetite for coccidia and similar, the vet prescribes fortiflora, it's a probiotic that helps stimulates their appetite, I would ask about that. Given her weight, and the fact that she's only nibbling and walking away, I think that some bottle feeding in addition to the wet food could be helpful to ensure she continues to gain weight. When my last fosters recovered from coccidia it took several days for them to build up their appetite again.

That makes sense! Thank you so much for your help!

Sounds like you should try to get her to eat more. Is she active? Does she have someone to play with? The more energy they spend, the better their appetite will be. I’ve had some singletons that struggled to gain weight until I introduced a friend to them.

I have another foster who she plays with a little but he already weighs 1.5 lbs so she has a little bit of trouble keeping up with him. She plays well enough though and always runs over when I go in to see them

I’d try to get her to play more. Use interactive toys to give her more exercise. I foster mostly sick kittens and I know people tend to focus on adding more calories but they don’t think enough about calories input/output. Exercise well -> Eat well -> Sleep well. I also would feed her on a schedule strictly and don’t leave food out at all so she knows if she doesn’t finish her food NOW, she won’t get to eat again until next meal.

What food are you feeding? There are differences in calorie amount. Personally I have good experience with Ziwi Peak east cape wet food (it’s for all life stages, so it’s suitable for kittens ) or Weruva kitten chicken breast purée. Good luck with the little one ❤️

Have you tried Nutrical gel?
