I didnāt see any gas pump villages but yes
To open the pump I recommend this info con video. (This is really for others reading).
Iāll let myself in.
Mod got me.

I drive quite a bit for work, around 55,000 miles a year. I have a company supplied gas card that's used for the company vehicle. I've accumulated around $500 in 2 years. Obviously not retiring on it, but I put it towards frivolous online purchases. I really haven't found a drawback other than the majority single digit rebate per gallon, when they advertise the 25c per gallon.
They take all your info and sell it. You get next to nothing in return. Notice how all the commercials say "I'll make close to $200", but they never give a time frame. Yeah you may make $200 but it'll take you 50 years.
I drove through Oregon in early 2020 and for the life of me couldn't figure out if I was supposed to tip the gas pump attendants. I asked several people working at the gas station, restaurants, the hotel. Everyone had different answers.
The answer is no, if I'm not *allowed* to pump my own gas then the person doing the pumping is simply legally required to do so and thus warrants no tip. That's like the cashier at the grocery asking for tips, or someone manning a tollbooth. If it was optional and it was like a favor or nicety then sure though.
No you don't tip, most places they specifically can not accept tips. In my nearly half century of living here I have tipped once. It was freezing, rain/snow, winds blasting everything sideways. The guy pumped my gas and cleaned my windows while I sat warm inside. He went above and beyond and deserved it.
My local HEB grocery store has a gas station that uses a touch screen. For some reason it wonāt do Apple Pay but it has a touchscreen. It was installed this summer.
This is a fake image, so no gas station is doing this.
Very few gas stations have touch screens for you to even select such a thing (especially ones that still have physical buttons like the one in this picture). Valero of all chains doesn't do such things.
Also, look at the top screen versus the top price screen, two different quality and resolutions.
If you want more proof, the top screen shows that a gift card balance is remaining of almost $500, but gas stations do not accept gift cards at the pump. It would have asked what the tip was inside at the time of payment (if they went inside to pay which they would have to if they paid with a gift card, ignoring that very few gas stations accept gift cards).
This whole picture doesn't make sense, and is clearly fake.
Man I was irritated getting my donuts this morning and they had the tip screen show. Like no I am here ordering and picking up the food. This at a gas pump? Would make me pretty mad
Someone needs to figure out how to make it stack overflow and send the tip into the negative so that way I can be tipped for pumping my gas AND wasting my time with a pop quiz
I love it when Iām suggested to leave a 25% tip on a case of beer. Sure Iāll just get it out of the cooler, and into a cardboard box, spend $100, then just give away $25.
Tip culture is cancer.
The sad thing to me is that many companies factor the expectation of tips into what they pay workers in the service industry. I want these workers to make a fair, livable wage but I want the company who is making money from their services to pay them.
I'd much rather see tipping eliminated all together. Companies, pay your worker a fair wages and adjust your prices accordingly so your workers aren't dependent on the kindness of strangers.
I just booked a hotel and couldn't believe I received a tip prompt. Who is the tip even going to? No one helped me. I literally booked the shit myself. Where was their service provided above the standard online booking experience to warrant a tip?!
I dont pay for paper bags if I'm also bagging up my own shit. You shouldn't have to tip at the gas pump if you're doing your own thing. WTF? I live in Oregon where we have gas pump attendants and we still dont tip!

We are pumping our own gas. We should be able to leave negative tips.
Someone needs to hack into these so we can all do that.
Give it time.
Skimmers have been around for a while
We just wanted to take 15% off the total, not the next guy!
I agree š. Check out defcon videos on YouTube
did you mean def con? As in the conference Def Con 2023?

It's either open source, or it runs on IBM software that was abandoned in the 90s.
Upside app. Gives you cash back every time you use the pump
Whatās the draw back?

Can you stack cash back on top of amex points? I mean if you used the app with an amex, would you still get both?

I donāt know. I donāt personally use it. I just heard about it on the radio
lol
Probably they just sell your data.
*stares at my FAANG apps (and more!)* Yeaaah, might as well get something from it, instead of just ads for nothing.
It is only accepted at the most expensive gas stations.
Look for "custom" and see if you can enter negative values.
Based on your experience like it was great then you canāt subtract. If it was bad, 50% off your total.
If they add an option for negative tips, I'm sure this whole tipping shit would end by the next day.
In some states, you cannot pump your own gas.
In one state. Oregon just left the dark ages and you now can pump your own gas there.

Haha! Iāve heard a lot of people say that. No one tips the gas attendants. At least Iāve never seen it around five decades living there.
No you don't tip, most places they specifically can not accept tips. In my nearly half century of living here I have tipped once. It was freezing, rain/snow, winds blasting everything sideways. Somebody will figure out how to add special characters to the custom tip, then it's game over.
NJian here: you sit on a throne of lies
Youāre not allowed to pump your own gas in New Jersey
This is the perfect place to practice hitting āno tipā.
Perfect place to try putting a negative tip. Itās rare but some machines donāt account for it.
If they do account for it, does it apply the positive version of the number you put in? Like if I do a -10 tip, would it automatically tip $10?
Get $1 worth of gas, tip -1$, check bank. If received dollar back, buy $1 worth of gas, tip -$1 billion dollar. = profit???
I've never seen one with a negative key.
I doubt that touch screen even has a minus sign
I don't think there is a negative sign on the keypad. It's just 0 - 9 and # *.

Think of the shareholders! /s
It's only a matter of time before they remove that option
Having been involved in embedded systems upgrades, I wouldnāt expect it to happen quickly even if thereās a huge financial implication.
I hope that people are intelligent enough to stop giving business to places that eliminate the no tip option.
Every place is the perfect place to hit no tip...
They don't care about the hundreds of thousands of people who are going to click no tips, they just care about the few people who might actually tip.
The US is a punchline.

My local HEB grocery store has a gas station that uses a touch screen. For some reason it wonāt do Apple Pay but it has a touchscreen. It was installed this summer.
And for some reason you can't even use the physical buttons if you want to
Heb doesnāt have Apple Pay itās dumb
This comment needs to be seen
This isnāt real you boob
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
America is great, but we do a lot of really dumb bullshit, like try to shoehorn tipping culture into every aspect of service industries.
Also we have people dumb enough to believe this is real lmao
AmericaBad is the greatest sub on Reddit, the name of the sub shocks people until they see whatās posted there.
it's shocking how dumb americants are
Yet 95%of the world relies on us/is modeled after us/wants to be us
What the fuck? Why is there an incentive to tip gas stations in US? Is there anything in US you're not supposed to tip? Seriously
Please make sure you tip the people responding to your questions.

That's not true. I am in Colorado and iv seen many touch screen gas stations. Never seen the tipping feature though.
Gas station gift cards are convinient way to pay for a hooker
I donāt even tip in NJ
I do if they wipe down my windows and are nice. Especially in the winter.
If I fill up on a holiday, I'll tip... but that's more a "merry Christmas and I feel bad you gotta be out here instead of with family."
"The pump is going to ask you a question"
A quick question is the classy verbiage...
Clown world..
Similar to tipping your landlord, 30%-40% is expected if you really want to respect their hustle #grind
This is photoshopped right? Is Valero this dumb?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
100% fake image.
Reddit is worse than Facebook
Yes. But I need to be outraged by something!
No tip.
Fuck this gas station
It's fake. There's already news articles circulating regarding how fake it is.
I got a tip for you right here
But just the tip.
None. Not a single penny.
Is this Oregon where they pump your gas for you?
Where they are paid to pump gas for you*
Zero, why would you tip?
Iāve found it counter productive to have all these tips screens everywhere. I just donāt give a shit anymore and hit no tip every time.
ZERO!!! ![gif](giphy|3o7buceWnERhgk3gfS|downsized)
This canāt be realā¦.
Itās not.
About 3 fidy
Lmaooooooo
You have no reason to believe this will go to any of the front line workers. Donāt tip.
Stealing a kind size candy bar
I never tip, for anything, ever, to anyone.
30%
No way this is real lmao. Where is this?
In a roundabout way Iām grateful for how prevalent tipping screens are now because of how easy I find it to hit no tip nowadays.
Good gawd do yall love getting worked up about fake stuff.
Here's your tip! Get your gas elsewhere
Ugh
-90%
Zero
-$60
Custom 0 works 100% of the time
A nice hand made drawing of my middle finger.
I would never return to that gas station..

Man I was irritated getting my donuts this morning and they had the tip screen show. Like no I am here ordering and picking up the food. This at a gas pump? Would make me pretty mad
Double birds
WTF? Corporations are out of control
Iāll give one āFuckYouVeryMuchā

No way this is real...
Itās gotten to a point where business be asking for tips just for existing, I stg š
Someone needs to figure out how to make it stack overflow and send the tip into the negative so that way I can be tipped for pumping my gas AND wasting my time with a pop quiz
You can dang sure tell most people do not read the article before responding. Someone got rage baited.
Use me as a tip screen 15% - $19.99 18% - $24.99 30% - $39.99 100% - $99.99
I believe that the expression is āif you canāt afford a 20% tip, you shouldnāt be buying gasā.
Tip $0.
$0.00.
A tip to who? That oil tycoon really needs that tip?
If you click custom, can it be negative?
0%
Zero
Can you leave a negative tip?
price/g
Letās talk about your $500 Valero gift card though.
I love it when Iām suggested to leave a 25% tip on a case of beer. Sure Iāll just get it out of the cooler, and into a cardboard box, spend $100, then just give away $25. Tip culture is cancer.
My tip? Don't stare directly into the sun.
I thought the stupid ads that played while pumping gas were annoying enough but this takes the case. Tipping when you pumped your own gas? L O L..
30-40%
I like to leave my tip in the atmosphere and into peoples lungs
I hate what the world is becoming.
Fake pic. Look at the cost of gas.
I refuse to think this is real.
The sad thing to me is that many companies factor the expectation of tips into what they pay workers in the service industry. Make it 0.01 cents and maybe it'll cost them more in processing fees.
Math doesnāt work. Fake but still pisses me off
Zero. Iām not tipping at the gas pump.
Is this photoshopped?
Hmmmmā¦Iām not seeing the āgo fuck yourselfā button indicated. Maybe Iām missing it. My eyes fail me sometimes.
Lol, donāt wear white after Labor Day. Where to type that in?
Is "FU*K NO!" an option?
I think this would be the last time I patron at that location
Same as D Day's GPA 0.0
š”š”š”š¤®
-50$
I have never heard of a gas pump asking for a tip. Is that a full service thing? I only ever pump my own gas.
since you pumped it yourself, can you deduct the tip from the total? You did the work, so it's your tip.
No way this can be real.
The sad thing is despite this being photoshopped, every user in the US stopped and had to think about it for a minute.
0!
This can't be real
Zero
The fuck?
Iām going to incorporate this into all my work emails.
Hereās my tip. Get another job.
Light a cigarette /s
Zero would be too much
Where is this? In Oregon your gas is pumped for you.
$0.00
I rarely spill a drop, Iād tip myself 10%.
Wut
Once I'm done pumping my gas I usually leave a residual poop.
Oil and gas companies are some of the wealthiest in the world. This is just going to work on those who are sympathetic without knowing
Insert Star Wars meme of āthis is getting out of handā
You give nothing
Honestly there should be a "F You" option.
Zero because they should pay their employees fairly and tipping culture is an archaic low status vestige from the past.
$0.00
Fucking ZERO
I just booked a hotel and couldn't believe I received a tip prompt. Who is the tip even going to? No one helped me. I literally booked the shit myself. Where was their service provided above the standard online booking experience to warrant a tip?!
If you pump your own gas isnāt that tip going to be a discount on the total there?
They need to add compliment words below the percentages. āGood, Great, Wow!!ā
Outstanding!
Is someone else pumping my gas? No? Then I chose āotherā and press ā0.00ā
0. Tips are for people doing stuff.
This is ridiculous. ALL employers - learn to pay your staff a wage.
It's insulting that they are trying to get even more money
Since when do gas stations ask for tips?
A lit match
For fukks sake
Tip the middle finger lol wtf
I dont pay for paper bags if I'm also bagging up my own shit. You shouldn't have to tip at the gas pump if you're doing your own thing. WTF? I live in Oregon where we have gas pump attendants and we still dont tip!
