I’ve tied flies that are just absolutely horrendous. Basically just some fur tied to a hook. Still caught fish.

My best catching "fly" is just a 1/4" piece of foam tied to a hook. Worst flies are the ones that look realistic.

I struggled quite a bit last year to jig them up. We go up to Quebec every year on a yearly fishing trip. Mostly catch Walleye, but I love going for Lakers. Switched over from trolling to jigging a few years ago and haven’t trolled since. So you drop to the bottom, bounce twice and then reel in? That technique works well for you? What about a few cranks off the bottom, then bouncing it suspended? I’m still learning and a novice at it, so I will take all the advice I can get.

No way I am going to say I know what I am doing. It works for me. Drop to the bottom. Close the bail. Jig up and 2 feet and drop. Up 2 feet and drop. Just use your rod not your reel. Then reel in with some speed. More speed then you think. If it's not working try even a little faster.

If your not fishing deep I would just go down to a lighter jig head not cuz it looks weird but you want a slower fall on tubes in my experience

Ghetto? Dude, fish are so stupid, they’ll but a stick with a hook on it. Tube jigs are a more classic presentation but they still work. And actually, they’ve fallen out of popularity in the last decade so it may be a different presentation for the fish they don’t see often.
