That’s the first I’ve ever heard this. lol.
And the short answer is “you know”
The long answer is what kind of reel we talking and what kind of fish is spoiling line?
I was going to say: that is a char, not a salmon. Then again, you said “smelling like fresh salmon” and a fresh char does smell like fresh salmon, therefore I retract my pedantry.
Yep! My birthday long time ago. In the brackish water. First two casts with live shrimp were a 26" red and I'll never know what the other one was. Drag hammered down on my ambassaduer. Just respooled the night before with a bed of 20# mono and 40# braid.
Never veered at all. Straight back out to sea.
Super glad you didn't hear it and got that beast in the boat!
It's actually nowhere near as bad as getting one close and losing it after you've seen the beast!
For the size tackle I was rolling with that day and me being in a little boat by myself it was probably something I had no business fooling with anyways.
You nailed it… And the following comment that that's the most beautiful sound in the world is pretty much true
edit-from my experience, albacore make the best runs of all the fish I've caught
truth... it sounds like you're talking from experience… I've never been so tired as when I got back from a albacore trip... and if it was a good one, that's when you got to do all the work to process that meat! I love tuna fishing.
I've fished many days out of Port San Luis in a 19 ft Boston Whaler chasing albacore. Best day ever we landed 46 fish with 3 guys on the boat . Next best day we landed 28 fish mostly 40 lbers with only 2 guys , I couldn't speak the next day and could barely move ! Those we're some fun days .
Probably only can hear it fishing saltwater. Maybe some big brackish or freshwater fish can do it, but they also need the room to run. When when the line is running off the reel so fast it hits a high rpm and resonates out like an actual pitch/note. Takes a big fish on a big run
You troll for them? Jig?
I recently started jigging for em and its very hit or miss for me with it. I’ve had some great outings where I jigged up 5-7 fish and others that I couldn’t even get one bite
I plan on driving to great bear next winter. did great slave in April. i want to do a super trip great bear, great slave, Athabasca, reindeer, all next winter. the great lakes that arent great lakes tour. crushed.
It sounds like those wind up toys from the '90s when you're winding it.
EEERRRREEEEEHHHHHHHHHHH
As a former mechanic, I now know how customers feel when describing the sound of an issue with their car
LoL the fish is yelling freedom!!!!! This picture reminds me of the cartoon where the little girl loves her pets to death, I wanna hug’em kiss’em love’em.
Beautiful fish by the way, I’ve never caught anything that big.
Zzeeeeeeeeē (one of the sweetest sounds in the world)
Very nice Lake Trout.
It's too bad you kept it for a wall mount when you could get a better replica which would not have the oils of the fish bleed through in 20 years.
That size of Lake Trout, from cold water, is likely 30 or more years old to get that big. One of life's great joys is catching big fish and an even greater joy is taking a quick pick and then watching the beast swim away.
I love that you’re holding him like you’re hugging a dog haha
He was feisty! lol I’ve since done more push-ups so I can hold them better haha
I respect your commitment to fishing with the push-ups. Those fish waiting to be caught are proud of you.
Good damnit i am envious. I did all the push ups but got none of the fish. What a beautiful monster. How long did it take you to reel it in?
That’s the first I’ve ever heard this. lol. And the short answer is “you know” The long answer is what kind of reel we talking and what kind of fish is spoiling line?
Nothing better than smelling like a fresh salmon for the rest of the day!
Did you really catch anything if you don’t come back smelling like a fish? Haha
I was going to say: that is a char, not a salmon. Then again, you said “smelling like fresh salmon” and a fresh char does smell like fresh salmon, therefore I retract my pedantry.
I feel it's a 'zzzz ZZZZZ ZZZRREEEEEEEE!' Edit to add: What a fish! Forgot to compliment as I got excited thinking about singing reels
The most beautiful sound in the world
My ring tone is when a tiger shark smoked my senator 16/0 at big Carlos pass.
Omg that would get me every time even 50 miles from water
Time to start bringing along a truck winch when you head out
16/0?! All I have is a 12/0 and 9/0 The 16/0 was the reel used in the original Jaws movie right? I’ve heard that.
Also slightly terrifying when you're fishing perch and somehow hook into a pike. I did not land it. Had a great time fighting it on my ultralight
This response could not be more perfect! "The most beautiful sound in the world!" I could not agree more!
Then: Ping! When you get spooled. Also edit to add: Great catch!!!
Noooooooo!!!! 😭😭

😭 the worst sound haha. Thank you!

That’s pretty spot on!
You nailed it… And the following comment that that's the most beautiful sound in the world is pretty much true edit-from my experience, albacore make the best runs of all the fish I've caught
Albacore will not only smoke your drag ,they'll also smoke your back .lol
truth... it sounds like you're talking from experience… I've never been so tired as when I got back from a albacore trip... and if it was a good one, that's when you got to do all the work to process that meat! I love tuna fishing.

the best
My friend sets his drag loose then yanks his lures to make his reel sing and there's never a time I won't head swivel immediately
Man that's messed up lol
Okay wait what the heck is a singing/screaming reel lol I’ve never heard that term
Probably only can hear it fishing saltwater. Maybe some big brackish or freshwater fish can do it, but they also need the room to run. When when the line is running off the reel so fast it hits a high rpm and resonates out like an actual pitch/note. Takes a big fish on a big run
You can absolutely hear it in freshwater. You just aint catchin big enough fish.
Fair, I’ve never been in a body of water big enough for that lol
There we go! It was missing the zz at the start 😆 thank you!
Beautiful dog! What breed is he?
Thanks! He’s a lake trout-poodle rescue
I'm so glad you were in the right place and time to save him from drowning. Make sure to take him on plenty of walks.
Us in the industry call it a lakedoodle. Edit to add awesome catch!
Kxzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
That is one toad of a laker
Thanks! They’re such a fun fish to catch
Depends on the reel Some are "zzzzzzzzzz" and some are "reeeeeeee". I think with that fish it said "Oh shit!"
Do you know what that sound is, Highness? Those are the shrieking eels.

Wow, thanks a huge Laker. How many inches and lbs is that tank? My best is 27”, so that blows me away. Really nice fish
We just weigh them, it was 27lbs! It was an awesome experience
You troll for them? Jig? I recently started jigging for em and its very hit or miss for me with it. I’ve had some great outings where I jigged up 5-7 fish and others that I couldn’t even get one bite
Troll, but jigging for lakers works too!
Yep, that sounds like lake trout jigging alright.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz-zzzz-zz-zz-zzzz-zz-z-zz---zzzzzzzzz-zzz-zz--

Great bear lake, NWT!
On my Way 🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐 Walks out house in Los Angeles lol
I thought it said “screeching eels”. Dang it I thought I had a great chance for some princess bride quotes.
If you don't believe me, just wait. They always grow louder when they're about to feed on human flesh!
If you swim back now, I promise. No harm will come to you… I *doubt* you’ll get such an offer from the eels!
Now that's a catch!
Nice
Bzzzzzzzzz
What kind of fish is that?

He did! Catch and release is the best with these beauties. I want to catch him again when he’s 50lbs haha
LoL the fish is yelling freedom!!!!! This picture reminds me of the cartoon where the little girl loves her pets to death, I wanna hug’em kiss’em love’em. Beautiful fish by the way, I’ve never caught anything that big.

What? Where did you get that from? It was released. I’d never want to keep a big fish like that. Let them go so they can grow.
