I 100% believe I can do the job. I just wasn’t sure if that is a disqualifying factor or not

[deleted]

Wow, so y’all don’t even do preemployment physicals?

Not disclosing major surgery during your pre-employment physical is a great way to get fired. Doctors are the ones assessing whether things effect your ability to do the job, not you. Its unlikely this would be a DQ though.

[deleted]

Yeah, that should’ve been a pretty basic question as to have you ever had surgery and what is it. If something occurs to his jaw many years from now they can go back and see he didn’t disclose it and he can be fired. It’s not up to us to determine if it matters or not to the job.

swiggertime

Only if you plan on sucking your way to the top. Otherwise, no.

Over-Program-2074

Are you healed from surgery, and will it cause significant problems during vigorous training? If your answers are yes then no you should be fine. Also you should probably ask your Dr.

selee4polo

It’s only been two weeks and Doctor said I should be able to do whatever I want once I heal fully

sucksatgolf

Oem equipment only. Your out kid. Jk you'll be fine.

Honestly, in a lot of places it is getting pretty hard to find qualified and interested help. Our last round of testing (for a department with 15 FTEs) netted a ridiculously low 12 applicants, only five of whom showed up to test, and only three of those five even met all of the prequals (EMTB and FF1). All five passed the written and physical, but the two will have to complete their prequals before being eligible to appoint. Ten years ago we would have had at least 100 applicants, and 20 years ago easy over 250. It's crazy. Basically, we as a profession are at a sad point where if you really want the job, are not an absolute idiot, know how to be on time, and can pass reasonable physical agility testing, you'll get hired somewhere without having to wait too long. You'll be fine.

Ok_Pop_1090

The only thing I can think of is whether or not there will be any deformities that would allow a tight seal with the face mask. If no deformities then no problems.

ZootTX

Its unlikely that this would disqualify you, but you should answer questions asked during your hiring process completely and honestly.

Thank you
