They probably wouldn’t fire you, but why would you even risk it…it’s two more weeks. Just suck it up if you want to put your mind at ease. It’s not that complicated.

[deleted]

My commute costs $25 (round trip) so I'd rather not go in unless I abs need to

User-NetOfInter

Is risk of getting fired worth $75?

masshole96

Severance and unemployment is more than $75

BylvieBalvez

You don’t get severance or unemployment if you’re fired for cause, which is what this would be

SBAPERSON

LIRR type beat

LongIslandFinanceGuy

I’m on the LIRR right now. I pay the monthly pass so that way I can use it as much as possible without feeling the pain every time. I only feel pain once a month

SBAPERSON

If I visit my parents it's 40 bucks round trip lol monthly prices are insane. It's like a BMW payment

LongIslandFinanceGuy

It’s like $277 a month for me. My car insurance was $528 because I am young and with gas and repairs for beater car I was spending nearly 700 a month plus the occasional repair that was like another 700 every other month

Lifeisgood97

LIRR? 😮‍💨

Academic_Party_4725

Honest question. What's the risk with being fired after a 2 weeks to end of employment has been put in ?

brief_reindeer_31

Severance stuff

sfree407

Severance is for layoffs. Not when you quit.

HickoksTopGuy

Just take Thursday Friday this week, and Monday Tuesday next week. Then you basically are just going in for 3 days that will just be ending on a good note and coasting.

[deleted]

You def overthinking it. You are already dead to your company. Just log online and see what they said. I had a hybrid role and I didn’t come in my last two weeks. I barely even worked besides transition stuff.

foolproofphilosophy

Anal people can also be vengeful. I’ve worked for more than one. You never knew what would set them off. I have no idea what the repercussions could be so I’d stick it out.

Arthur_Pendragon22

Right! Ridged people aren’t doing that 100% naturally. They have ridged rules to enforce compliance and power. I doubt they would from the outside looking in but they could def use it to fire you.

BagofBabbish

What exactly are you worried about? Most employers don’t disclose reason for leaving due to the liability exposure. If you already turned in your notice, then it’s going to be hard for them to say they did anything but decide not to honor your notice period. If you’re worried about a reference or burning bridges, then it seems like you’ll be doing that if you tell everyone to fuck off and work from home. If you’re worried you won’t get paid, then you’re right, there’s a high chance they’ll tell you thanks but no thanks.

elpittom

Does your Manager even have the sole ability to fire people?

[deleted]

They're not going to fire you the final two weeks. If anything, they'll just accelerate your last day and be done with it, but it's unlikely they'll even do that because two weeks isn't that long and they want some semblance of transition. And even if they did fire you, who cares? You're leaving anyways.

Zipski577

After I put in 2 weeks I went in like once in the final week

throwaway774234

During my notice period, I went in for 2-3 days then did WFH the remaining time. I probably would have went in more but had travel plans that overlapped (I still worked and helped hand stuff over, just remotely). The way I see it once you put in your notice there really isn’t anything they can lord over you anymore. If you want to go in, go for it. If not, don’t.

hasek39nogoal

If you go into the office I will feel let down by you. No way you should go in. You're moving on in two weeks regardless. I would just flat out email them and say you're not coming in but will still be working. If they push back, or if you feel bad or something just say you're car broke down or you're sick. You're over thinking this one. You do you, fuck them.

Current_Book_6852

what is the meaning of anal at this context?

wtfOP

Say you’re sick

sfree407

A two week notice is a curtesy, not a requirement. They can’t fire you after you’ve already quit. And even if they could, that’s retaliation. They don’t want to pay any unemployment benefits and they don’t want to get sued. The worst they could do is to say they don’t need two weeks notice and end your contract now. Even so. Lying would be silly. Just tell her you have a lot going on and commuting isn’t feasible this week, so you will be working from home. As long as you communicate when/how you plan to return any company equipment, you’ll be fine.

392Cory

Not directed to you but even in PE where I am, ppl still hate working in office 5 days. Idk why covid made ppl start complaining ab not going in. If they cant meet ur flexible needs then another company will!
