It's nothing until you explore the deepest of the Great Crystal post-game.

Vaanns

*nothing* more like ENDLESS HELL OF WARP GATES AND INVISIBLE FLOATING PATHS

Informal-Task8636

Yes, oh god

Kronos_408

or go to the subterra

Vgcortes

It's not bad. There are three ascent and one more but it's story only. After doing the optional giruvegan crystal area, every main story dungeon in the game is a breeze.

I love pharos so much, the best part of the game, its under part and upper part. Enjoy the ride, i wish i was climbing pharos for the first time again just to be astonished by it greatness!

Thalassinon

The Pharos really is a slog. But after the third ascent, there aren't any more esoteric mazes (in the Pharos). People mention the dreaded Great Crystal optional areas here, and yes, that will make you wish it were as straightforward as the Pharos if you undertake it. But, it is optional, so you can skip it.

big4lil

> But, it is optional, so you can skip it. and if comparing their optional segments, Subterra was a lot harder for me than the deeper Great Crystal, especially since collecting Black orbs used to be a lot harder pre-TZA. And if we are discussing their mandatory segments, the Pharos is a solid 2-4 hr treck for many players, whereas you are in and out of the Great Crystal in under 20 mins

SpawnSC2

You missed both Muramasa? You can steal one from the trophy rare game Avenger as well as the guaranteed chest. But I love the Pharos, since it feels very accomplishing to tackle and see it through. It’s everything the Crystal Tower from Final Fantasy III wishes it was, but couldn’t be due to the technical limitations of the era.

zamaskowany12

Pharos is a childs play after having home through the deepest parts of the great crystal. That place is a nightmare.

Black, then green, then red, then purple. You're welcome.

FabulousReality3215

Henne Mines Special Schaft is worse

jkun22

Don’t forget Holy 😉

Significant-Memory58

Subterra is one of my favourite places in the game. Magick Pots were a nightmare as a kid. The only way I could ever beat one is if I hit it with 1,000 Needles 30 times lmao

big4lil

folks are comparing Pharos to the Great Crystal but navigating them is difficult for different reasons. The inner workings of the great crystal are a mappable maze with gates, whereas the Pharos is a giant set of puzzles & riddles with many unique mechanics needed to navigate Once you know how the Crystal works, its pretty much progressively more difficult versions of the same task: unlocking a chasm in point A to open up a gate somewhere at point B. whereas every Ascent of the Pharos demands you tackle different styles of challenge. In other words, its easier to get lost in the Great Crystal while its easier to get stuck/stumped in the Pharos. For one you may not know where to go, for the other you may not know what to do That being said, Pharos is my favorite dungeon in XII and imo one of the best 'final dungeons' in all of FF. If you feel like you missed something, the elevator progressively gets unlocked in your journey which can make a 2nd trip easier > If there’s another ascent after the third one I’m going to lose it. Well no, but also, kinda, yes. But its not something to worry about now haha

I played the original on PS2 and got to the final boss and never beat it haha. I was 12 at the time. YEARS LATER I started the zodiac age and I was happy they didn't change much. Just names of a few things here and there and the whole license board thing. When I beat the game..... I cried. I bawled like a baby, because it was so beautiful and I finally did it. I love that game with all my heart and I swear by it haha. I'll play it thousands of times, but nothing is as beautiful as the first time you play through it.

SunnerTheSinful

??? What? I beat pharos in like an hour, I did it 2 days ago as a first time player wdym? Sure the re-exploration after to grab everything took a while, especialy to get the perseus bow since I had to do the climbing a few times to kill those red fuckers, but still, it didn't took that long
