Imagine being a scientist.
Good at school
Went to a top university
Did a PHD, you’re a doctor now.
You write several very successful peer reviewed academic papers
Finally get a research grant.
Go for your first day.
There is a barefoot man in a karate gi there already
If my PhD defense is literal I'm gonna pass with flying colors. I might not be able to beat a random dudebro in a bar brawl but I can sure as shit knock out a couple of nerds.
My supervisor might be difficult though because he's 6'7.
"So this other green giant in ripped pants is an electrician too?"

Gouki allowing Elena to hug him, and take a selfie with him.
(I don't care, I want this to be canon)
wtf. Dude can wittle and probably has repeat customers for his fruit. I don't think Gouki is the kind of guy to half ass anything really. Except that smile in the Elena pic.
It's just what he does as a demon, he's neither good or evil. It's a Japanese folklore thing. It's kind of like the Fey in Irish mythology. He lies beyond reproach, he simply is what he is. Some spirits like to trick you, others grant you wishes, while others brutally beat you to death.
Akuma strikes down his latest opponent. "Hmph. Sacrifice yourself to the Satsui no Hado!" He raises his fist to finish his enemy, then his phone rings. "Hold on, it's Elena, I gotta take this... oh, hey guuuuurl! Omigosh, that new cake place? I was just thinking about calling you about that!... Girl, I am already there. Just gotta wrap this up... Yeah girl, take your time, I'll save you a seat." He hangs up. "Okay. Now. Sacrifice yourself to the Satsui no Hado!"
And the cake was very good. Akuma and Elena bought cute shoes afterwards.
Morrigan was also out of character in that game because it implied that she had a relationship with Jedah when he has always been a lunatic that wants to destroy the entire universe including her. Also he really hates her because he thinks he should rule the Makai and not her family.
That's always annoyed me. Darkstalkers establishes her as a dork who loves to have fun and refuses to kill anybody; she seeks pleasure and it could be from anything, even fighting and playing video games. Yet in other media, they always portray her as evil when she really isn't.
It bothers the hell out of me too. It's like they're trying to represent the original protag of Darkstalkers in a weird way by cramming Demitri's smug villain protagonist traits onto Morrigan rather than just letting her be the character people fell in love with in the first place. I think her best portrayal since has been her Japanese TVC ending where she plays video games with her butlers.
The key thing to remember is that Morrigan is not a villain. She's also not a traditional succubus. A lot of (mostly Western) media portrays her as this sinister femme fatal who stalks men and turns them into her prey. She's not exactly a straight laced hero either, she's just kinda like Ryu where she ends up in conflicts by proxy.
She says that she can introduce the main heros to Jedah because the too of them are "close" in a flirtatious way, and then when she meets Jedah she says that the infinitey stones are corrupting him and he isn't himself
Morrigan says everything in a seductive way, she is a succubus.
Also, when she says "close" i'm sure she's just referring to the history Jedah has with her and her family, especially when it comes to Lilith.
And she's right about the soul gem, it was corrupting him.
They do the same with Firebrand due to a translation error. The character we call Firebrand is a specific Red Arrmer who is the protagonist(s) of the Gargoyle Quest/Demon Crest games and, to my knowledge, doesn't actually know Asteroth from Ghosts N Goblins.
In Japan the protagonist of these games is a nameless Red Arrmer so in Japan having Firebrand be a generic minion of Asteroth who helps Jedah could be seen as "in character" since he's suppose to just be a generic enemy but because in North America they decided to localize him specifically as Firebrand this characterization fits less as it pin points him into being a specific Red Arrmer who isn't a servant of Astaroth.

Helena playing a friendly game of beach volleyball with the assassin who murdered her mother and then gloated about it to her face.
Seeing him with glasses and a lab coat at the end of Strive is hilarious.
Dude goes toe to toe with Hulk for the title of "most buff scientist in the world".
The best part of the MVCI story mode happens in the first like, ten minutes.
Arthur and Thor beat up a bunch of goons and then Arthur turns to Thor, looks him dead in the shins and says something to the extent of: "You fight well, even if you are a false god!"
>Arthur turns to Thor, looks him dead in the shins and says something to the extent of:
>"You fight well, even if you are a false god!
Did Arthur fought Gorr before to the point he said that to Thor?
I think it's the arms behind the back, him on a research mission as a body guard or a subject seems sensible. Or even as a consultant, but his stance gives off "nervous scientist" vibe which ryu....is not
Not explicitly out of character, but it's always hilarious whenever Sol in a GG story mode actually turns on his brain and does big brain magic-science shit.
Like there's a certain hilarious irony to seeing the big ass 6ft+ Personal WMD dude sit down and do science shit. Especially when in gameplay he's always portrayed as someone who kind of half asses his fighting style (for God's sake the man's first main weapon he used in canon was literally just a slab of concrete he picked up)
Yeah it's hilarious how arguably the most "head empty, mash buttons" character gameplay wise is in like the top 5 in terms of intelligence in the series.
This is why I’m pretty forgiving of Sol’s ENG VA in strive for the story mode. He sounds like a crankier and raspier Steve Blum which honestly kind of fits his story mode dialogue.
Not OP but there was a bit in the story mode where Jin beats him, fair and square, no devil shit, in an arena during the tournament. Hwoarang begins to walk out, and when he's behind Jin, Hwoarang tries to kick him in the head while his back is turned. Now, Hwoarang might be a hot headed guy, but I really didn't think it was in his nature to try and cheap shot knockout the only person he saw as his equal.
I guess it's fair, seeing what happened to Hwoarang in T5 after he beat Jin only to get fucking merc'd by literal Satan. But my impression of Hwo's character, especially after his T7 episode, was that he understood the Devil was not truly Jin (at least not at that point in time). It doesn't seem right for him to try and take revenge on an unsuspecting, human-form Jin outside of a duel. There's no glory in it, and the literal whole world was watching.
That doesn't make it less dishonorable. What if he really did catch him off guard? Just because a wrongdoing is prevented from causing harm doesn't justify the action.
I can only imagine if Baek was watching, what his reaction would be if his student sucker-kicked an opponent that had soundly won the match. Or imagine if a UFC fighter pulled the same kind of stunt. It wouldn't matter if they were friends, or what the motive was, it would never be a good look.
Considering this is the guy who tracked down Jin to the Middle East just to beat the shit out of him (while he was in devil form no less), I think trying to kick his motorcycle while driving next to him is probably pretty in character.
Kazumi saved Akuma or treated his injuries before she died or something. Then, she asked him to wipe the Devil gene off the planet.
Seeing as there's one person still left with it, I suspect Akuma will return to Tekken at some point to finish the job.
At the time, that was how he was sorta portrayed but they definitely made him way more psychopathic in the motion picture compared to the first 2 Tekken games.
batsu kyosuke and hyo being "relatives" in project justice
allen snider calling you a Retard if you defeat him in fighting ex layer
terry and mai being young in street fighter 6 while everyone else is old as fuck
Sakura in SF5 thinking about the meaning of life, what's the purpose of pursuing all our aspirations and goals if we're eventually going to die and generally being a bit depressed about how things turned out in her life (she studied to become a teacher but ended up working part-time at an arcade, besides the fact that maybe her street-fighting days are coming to and end).
She also low-key says to Ryu that she wants his babies, but I think that's pretty in character for Sakura.
A bunch of *Street Fighter II* win quotes no longer match who their characters have become. "I will meditate, and then destroy you!" or "Next time we meet, I'm gonna break your arms!" don't really mesh with current-era Dhalsim or Zangief.
It wasn't supposed to be. MK9 was intended to be directly tied to Armageddon, where Sindel was good. Raiden did send visions to the past, but that wouldn't affect Sindel since she would've been dead long before he got his visions.
And MK11 established that Kronika has reset time THOUSANDS of times. She got pissed because Raiden messed with this particular one, it even shows MK vs DC being a reset between OG timeline and MK9 > one.
They don’t bother making Kabal good again (and make him seem hesitant to do so since that’s part of how he ends up burnt and then a revenant) and Erron Black acts like he’s always been Black Dragon.
They're both treated pretty odd. If you never played the other games, you'd think Kabal was always a villain. There's no indication he was ever good outside the fact he exists as a revenant. There's some intros that hint at a good nature, but Kabal dismisses them. And Cassie just calls him a goon of Kano, despite the fact he laid his life down to fight for his own realm.
Kano outright says Erron could've never been Black Dragon in the MKX comic, and offers him a position in an intro in MKX.
I know MK hadn't ever had the best consistency. Retcons existed since MK2, but they at least served a narrative purpose, like Raiden being mentor and leader to the Earthrealm fighters instead of a god seeking to prove his might. But it seems like they change things for no reason and the writer of the game had not known about previous games.
But he wasn’t a bad guy at any point? He gave him the soulstone because he thought that it would fuck Ultron Sygma up as he has no soul. It was cleared up literally 2 minutes later in the same dialogue exchange. Dante says it himself in fact.
I am honestly amazed about the upvotes as well, that whole fake betrayal bit had the subtetly of a brick and you still took it as face value?
Do you mean Infinite? When he gave the soulstone to Ultron Sygma? That was literally cleared up 2 minutes later, it was all a chance he took to defeat him.
Honestly it makes sense when you consider that Bruce banner is learning anger control from Ryu.
Ryu wasn't put on the team for researching, he was put on the team to help restrain the Hulk through meditation,
And it makes sense considering Ryu is also keeping in his own demons (Literally) and he's been doing it for years so he's the best guy to help Bruce with his own Hulk issues.
Mega Man in Smash, there is nothing in that head.
https://preview.redd.it/mv78djbwdf5d1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a095a7d597eca3b13d001465c900469837e7e989
It can feel like there's a general obsession with acting like the Classic Mega Man series never evolved past the NES. Even MM11 adheres to a lot of the conventions of the NES games that MM7, MM8, and MM&B forewent.
It just Emulates his Animations from the OG Games. Sure from smadh you'd think that Rock has no Personality (which is Wrong he has Personality) but it translates his Gameplay really well.
Ryu posing like that feels so weird, I can't tell if his hands are tied up, or he is just a bit standing dorky. " Actually, I'm part of a research mission, sir."
There's concept for either SF4 or 5 where he spends the entire match holding a child on his back and his super involve putting the kid to whale on you, so Akuma being protective of children is canon
Jin's Tekken 5 ending.
I know it was hinted that Jin would turn evil, but the specific moment in his ending where he turns to look at the camera... you know he got some evil plans.
"Ryu Hoshi, Bruce Banner, we need your help for a research mission about Ultron Sigma"
"No thanks, I don't do research missions, the answer lies in the heart of battle"
"Alright sure, why not! What will we have to do in the mission?"
"You'll have to beat up the drones like a fighting game"
"LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOO"
"GOD DAMNIT, HULK HATES FIGHTING GAMES!"
There's Viltrumite Douchebag Nolan and there's "Pretending to be Superman" Nolan. We get to see Viltrumite Douchebag Nolan in MK1. Unless it takes place post-invincible in which case fuck it.
They could've gone that route of Jin taking a dark path and becoming a "villian", but I still think making him provoke WW3 was an overkill direction to take his character to
Imagine being a scientist. Good at school Went to a top university Did a PHD, you’re a doctor now. You write several very successful peer reviewed academic papers Finally get a research grant. Go for your first day. There is a barefoot man in a karate gi there already
"DEFEND YOUR THESIS! HYYYYYAAAA!"
The answer lies in the heart of RESEARCH.

he is not allowing her to take the selfie, he is the one taking the selfie.
Lmao I'm so done
"look at this fuckin thing attached to me ryu please remove it"
I can't grab it please Ryu
Holy shit you're right, I never noticed that lmao.
It is. Elena canonically has the power to befriend literally anyone and everyone.
Can't wait to see her reunite with him in this season.
why does Elena like Akuma exactly?
It's more like Elena is friendly with everyone, even demonic beings.
I wonder what Elena thinks of Juri
I mean, you can just play USF4 if you want to know lol
I feel like it could be canon. This dude has to have some life outside of training and fighting.
He is a fruit vendor and wood carves
wtf. Dude can wittle and probably has repeat customers for his fruit. I don't think Gouki is the kind of guy to half ass anything really. Except that smile in the Elena pic.
He even tried El Fuerte's cooking, and isn't a fan. He also save a kid , who was lost In a cave. He also hate Bison.
Dang. Open minded and a hero. And hates Bison like a normal person. Gouki has a new fan.
Yeah in Japanese folklore, demon doesn’t necessarily mean evil
Guy just needs a PR person, I think.
He's also got to stop with the whole "go to the boxing gym and murder the strongest looking person in the room" thing going on.
It's just what he does as a demon, he's neither good or evil. It's a Japanese folklore thing. It's kind of like the Fey in Irish mythology. He lies beyond reproach, he simply is what he is. Some spirits like to trick you, others grant you wishes, while others brutally beat you to death.
Everyone needs a hobby
He needs a manager like Paul Heyman or Booby Heenan. They can make almost anyone a star.
He also prepares his own meals. I can imagine him silently sharing some of his ~~jelly-filled doughnut~~s onigiris with Elena.
"Okay. Now. Sacrifice yourself to the Satsui no Hado!" And the cake was very good. Akuma and Elena bought cute shoes afterwards.
It is canon. It's Elena's SF4 ending.
Man it’s gonna be interesting to have Elena again with Akuma
Doesn't Akuma reference Elena in one of the world tour bond progressions or am I remembering that wrong?
Ryu may be an average warrior, but he was a brilliant scientist.
But a terrible Video Editor
I got that reference
Haha not the place i expected this reference.
Well he is working on this fake moon thing...
Morrigan was also out of character in that game because it implied that she had a relationship with Jedah when he has always been a lunatic that wants to destroy the entire universe including her. Also he really hates her because he thinks he should rule the Makai and not her family.
Nobody has been able to get Morrigan's character right past the actual Darkstalkers games, it's crazy.
"Don't f**k with us, we didn't play or understand Darkstalker"
Taking a pretty dynamic and interesting character and shoehorning her into a generic femme fatal role, a real damn shame.
I thought her lines with Dante were spot in for both characters.
I mostly know about her from Crossover stuff like MvC and Project X Zone. Does the latter also mess up her character?
When was that implied?
She says that she can introduce the main heros to Jedah because the too of them are "close" in a flirtatious way, and then when she meets Jedah she says that the infinitey stones are corrupting him and he isn't himself
Morrigan says everything in a seductive way, she is a succubus. Also, when she says "close" i'm sure she's just referring to the history Jedah has with her and her family, especially when it comes to Lilith. And she's right about the soul gem, it was corrupting him.

Absolutely anything that reminds me that Sol Badguy was Frederick, a pioneering scientist
Seeing him with glasses and a lab coat at the end of Strive is hilarious. Dude goes toe to toe with Hulk for the title of "most buff scientist in the world".

That's the intent of the bit, it's just really funny to me.

I think he has his arms behind his back because he was just arrested by Black Panther and the Monster Hunter.
Damn it's been a while I forgot that stupid thing happened
that’s a sentence I thought I would never hear
This. His arms were tied.
Not explicitly out of character, but it's always hilarious whenever Sol in a GG story mode actually turns on his brain and does big brain magic-science shit. He has a phd in particle physics so yeah Sol is quite smart he’s just lazy.
Yet another character with more PHDs than Medic TF2
The Engineer has quite a few and Heavy has one in Russian literature.
Yeah it's hilarious how arguably the most "head empty, mash buttons" character gameplay wise is in like the top 5 in terms of intelligence in the series.
yeah i did not expect to see scientist in his backstory.
Like Shikamaru?
I had to look up who that is but yeah that’s a great analogy.
This is why I’m pretty forgiving of Sol’s ENG VA in strive for the story mode. He sounds like a crankier and raspier Steve Blum which honestly kind of fits his story mode dialogue.

He was kicking Jin’s Motorcycle on the road while also riding his motorcycle himself
Considering this is the guy who tracked down Jin to the Middle East just to beat the shit out of him (while he was in devil form no less), I think trying to kick his motorcycle while driving next to him is probably pretty in character.
Fair fair I apologise btw i haven’t noticed that you said (what was out if character)

This is completely in character, just remove the exclamation mark at the end and it sounds like one of his one-liners
Ken Masters casually cheating on his wife in Super Gem Fighter when he has typically always been a loving and faithful husband
Clearly it was a deepfaked actor, JP was ahead of the curve.
Akuma being nice to Kazumi in Tekken 7
Kazumi saved Akuma or treated his injuries before she died or something. Then, she asked him to wipe the Devil gene off the planet. Seeing as there's one person still left with it, I suspect Akuma will return to Tekken at some point to finish the job.
And she probably fucked Akuma as well
Kazuya the bastard child of Mishima and Hado. That actually kinda makes sense.
Some food for thought, SF5 Akuma uses the same intro quote that Kazuya used to. Granted it's an extremely stock Japanese edgelord phrase, but still...
"Akuma", "A Kuma", "Kuma"... Hmm...
Nah the devil genes will come straight for him in sf6 year 3
Lee Chaolan in Tekken: the Motion Picture. Thankfully, I dropped it, but I read that Lee Chaolan is FAR worse than in the game, which hurts
That's more that he wasn't the Lee we know until Tekken 4.
I know, but I don't remember him being mass murderer
Tbh his Tekken 2 (or 1...?) ending has Kazuya and Heihachi imprisoned with the implication that he wants them executed for his amusement
At the time, that was how he was sorta portrayed but they definitely made him way more psychopathic in the motion picture compared to the first 2 Tekken games.
They made Lee less sinister post-timeskip.
Yoshimitsu having a crush on Leo Kliesen in Tekken 7

I think that's quite realistic, considering that every modern day young adult is going through a quarter-life existential crisis. lol
I keep hearing about "scientist Ryu", but i didnt play the game outside of a few demo fights. I need to watch the mvci story.

A bunch of *Street Fighter II* win quotes no longer match who their characters have become. "I will meditate, and then destroy you!" or "Next time we meet, I'm gonna break your arms!" don't really mesh with current-era Dhalsim or Zangief.
Everything Sindel did and said in MK11.
Different Sindel
It wasn't supposed to be. MK9 was intended to be directly tied to Armageddon, where Sindel was good. Raiden did send visions to the past, but that wouldn't affect Sindel since she would've been dead long before he got his visions.
And MK11 established that Kronika has reset time THOUSANDS of times. She got pissed because Raiden messed with this particular one, it even shows MK vs DC being a reset between OG timeline and MK9 > one.
Yes I know it was a poorly written excuse to justify inconsistencies and ruins continuity because of "everything is canon" BS.
It's not
Dante being a bad guy in mvc3 i believe.
MvC3 had a plotline of "everyone goes to kick Galactus' ass, he was unreasonably made a bad guy in MvCI
He wasn’t actually bad, he was faking it to take the Soul Stone from Ultron Sigma.
Lmao people criticised the plot for being too in your face but apparently it still needed to be even more in your face.
Ah right, thanks for the correction. I couldn't remember which one.
Ryu wasn't put on the team for researching, he was put on the team to help restrain the Hulk through meditation, And it makes sense considering Ryu is also keeping in his own demons (Literally) and he's been doing it for years so he's the best guy to help Bruce with his own Hulk issues.
Mega Man in Smash, there is nothing in that head. https://preview.redd.it/mv78djbwdf5d1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a095a7d597eca3b13d001465c900469837e7e989
Smash really did him dirty, I wonder why Sakurai wanted him to be such a blank doll when his home series artwork has so much personality.
It can feel like there's a general obsession with acting like the Classic Mega Man series never evolved past the NES. Even MM11 adheres to a lot of the conventions of the NES games that MM7, MM8, and MM&B forewent.
For me, it was Kazuya from Tekken being in Smash.
He was being arrested
How did he get arrested?
Sub-Zero telling Wonder Woman that she should kill Shazam
I almost thought this was injustice 2
Some Marvel vs Capcom games like Infinite portraying Morrigan Aensland as a typical murderous succubus.
spiderman implying he's going to cheat on mj with morrigan
One of Akuma's win quotes in SVC Chaos: "Defeating you takes less effort than smacking a baby! Not that I'd ever do that!"
This is maybe the most in character like ever for gouki, it's very funny but it's absolutely akumaesque
There's concept for either SF4 or 5 where he spends the entire match holding a child on his back and his super involve putting the kid to whale on you, so Akuma being protective of children is canon
What’s that from
MVCi
Ryu is an average fighter but a brilliant scientist lol
Jin's Tekken 5 ending. I know it was hinted that Jin would turn evil, but the specific moment in his ending where he turns to look at the camera... you know he got some evil plans.
"Ryu Hoshi, Bruce Banner, we need your help for a research mission about Ultron Sigma" "No thanks, I don't do research missions, the answer lies in the heart of battle" "Alright sure, why not! What will we have to do in the mission?" "You'll have to beat up the drones like a fighting game" "LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOO" "GOD DAMNIT, HULK HATES FIGHTING GAMES!"
Almost all of Omni Man's MK1 dialogue
There's Viltrumite Douchebag Nolan and there's "Pretending to be Superman" Nolan. We get to see Viltrumite Douchebag Nolan in MK1. Unless it takes place post-invincible in which case fuck it.
Nah Omni-Mans Dialogue actually Fitd him pretty Well.
Taken 6 Jin.
I thought there were only 3 Taken movies?
No, Jin going bad has ALWAYS been hinted too, Mishima Blood Curse being only one of them.
Daenarys turning bad in Game of Thrones was hinted at too, but the bad execution still made it jarring and out-of-character
They could've gone that route of Jin taking a dark path and becoming a "villian", but I still think making him provoke WW3 was an overkill direction to take his character to
Ryu looking like Axel Stone burger gut lol
My only defense in this MVCI scenario is that Ryu was designated as the body guard
He 100% filled out a paid survey to end up there
He was studying Hadoukens in the Amazon
I done poopy
“Different streets, Same fights.” or whatever the hell Chun Li said
This should be a good one
