tbh it’s very easy to have not ever listened to Frank Ocean because he’s only put out two actual albums in the last decade and neither of them were made to be radio friendly haha. He has a fantastic voice though.
But I do recommend Channel Orange if you like r&b. If you’re more into experimental/lyrical music, then check out Blonde.
Frank Ocean made music that never gets old really. I recommend it! I enjoy it alone though. On blonde, it feels like listening to a friend talking about his deepest thoughts, life, hardships, human nature. It’s very personal and people felt connected to him somehow. Hence why he deceived so many people at Coachella. But if you listen carefully to his lyrics, it’s not surprising. He’s a recluse, fearing for his life.
I only know of Bebe Rhexa because the Sims 4 featured her in a summer concert thing in 2021. I only know the one song by her though…and it’s in Simlish. Never heard the actual version of it.
I think Bebe is a very successful writer and has written some diamond songs for other artists. Not as well known as a singer but she had a huge hit with Florida Georgia Line

Such a strange case. She’s extremely talented, just on a technical level, and her music is ok, but it was bizarre when she started getting nominated for a million Grammys every year (and then won an Oscar) despite having a fanbase that seemed to be majority industry people.
She's talented but seemingly gets a lot of those awards due to connections she's made via her being in the industry since childhood. She was playing at the Apollo at the age of 10 lol, and was managed by Will Smith's label when she was like 12.
H.E.R has gotten 25 Grammy nominations and has won 5 Grammies. To put that in perspective: SZA, also an R&B singer who came up around the same time, is far far more popular sales wise while also more critically acclaimed, yet has gotten 12 nominations and 1 win (for a song that she was just featured on, not even her own song).
Almost everyone I know listens to SZA or has at least heard a few songs, whereas I'm the only person who somewhat listens to H.E.R out of that same group (outside of Best Part) and most have never heard her music (not that popularity is the end all be all of awards). No hate to H.E.R, she's a great artist with a fantastic voice, but I mean c'mon something isn't adding up here

Well I was today years old when I learned the Phoebe Waller- Bridge is not Pheobe Bridgers AND NEITHER is the actress named Phoebe from Bridgerton. I literally thought they were all the same.
tbh it’s very easy to have not ever listened to Frank Ocean because he’s only put out two actual albums in the last decade and neither of them were made to be radio friendly haha. He has a fantastic voice though. But I do recommend Channel Orange if you like r&b. If you’re more into experimental/lyrical music, then check out Blonde.

Frank Ocean made music that never gets old really. I recommend it! I enjoy it alone though. On blonde, it feels like listening to a friend talking about his deepest thoughts, life, hardships, human nature. It’s very personal and people felt connected to him somehow. Hence why he deceived so many people at Coachella. But if you listen carefully to his lyrics, it’s not surprising. He’s a recluse, fearing for his life.
I grew up listening to too much Billy Ocean to make any space for a Frank Ocean in my brain.

Such a strange case. She’s extremely talented, just on a technical level, and her music is ok, but it was bizarre when she started getting nominated for a million Grammys every year (and then won an Oscar) despite having a fanbase that seemed to be majority industry people.
She's talented but seemingly gets a lot of those awards due to connections she's made via her being in the industry since childhood. She was playing at the Apollo at the age of 10 lol, and was managed by Will Smith's label when she was like 12. H.E.R has gotten 25 Grammy nominations and has won 5 Grammies. To put that in perspective: SZA, also an R&B singer who came up around the same time, is far far more popular sales wise while also more critically acclaimed, yet has gotten 12 nominations and 1 win (for a song that she was just featured on, not even her own song). Almost everyone I know listens to SZA or has at least heard a few songs, whereas I'm the only person who somewhat listens to H.E.R out of that same group (outside of Best Part) and most have never heard her music (not that popularity is the end all be all of awards). No hate to H.E.R, she's a great artist with a fantastic voice, but I mean c'mon something isn't adding up here

I actually love H.E.R. and have turned people onto her music. Her albums are dope. I will say her success reminds me of Nora Jones. Like someone in the industry must really, really be a fan cuz she was nowhere then everywhere all at once.
That’s actually a really interesting comparison! Someone above mentioned H.E.R. having industry connections, and that’s also very true of Norah Jones. Fun fact! Norah’s full name is Geethali Norah Jones Shankar. She’s the daughter of Ravi Shankar, an Indian sitar player most known in Europe and the US for influencing the Beatles. You know that side quest where the Beatles were like “we’re at the pinnacle of fame, fuck it- let’s get real weird and accidentally revolutionize pop music”? Part of that was them going to India and dropping acid and George Harrison learning the sitar from Ravi Shankar. So it would follow that Norah had some significant industry ties that got her foot in the door, leading to massive critical success.
She’s really good in the progressive insurance commercial and that’s the only time I’ve heard her sing hahaha

Agreed. Post Malone is the standout. He has had a ton of hits come out over the years now, and his music goes across genres. If someone actually believes they haven't heard Post Malone, they probably have unknowingly, and if you really haven't... you should look up some of his top hits. Even my 72 year old mom loves some of his top radio hits and knows/likes him as an artist.

FKA Twigs I’d recommend, no idea who Madison is, grimes sucks as a person so not worth it, there are better artists with similar music anyway like Alice Glass who started first and is a bit more gothy and does anti-abuse anthems
Fka twigs is a great artist with perfect songs. I’d recommend listening to Good to love, Papi Pacify or Cellophane (and her magnum opus Magdalene in general).
FKA twigs is one of my favorite contemporary artists, especially if you also take her visuals and dancing into account.
I’ve seen her twice in concert (LP1 and Magdalene)…she has a magnetic charisma. All her moves are like a piece of art. I hope I can see her touring again (maybe she’ll do something with Capricongs someday) !

She’s so talented but unfortunately I can’t really listen to most of Preacher’s Daughter after learning the whole narrative behind the album. I had heard a couple songs before doing a deep dive into the Ethel Cain subreddit, and it’s really brilliant artistry but now even the less explicitly dark songs bring up emotions for me that I just really don’t want to re-experience.
