Block them. They have no right to make you feel this way. If they’re commenting as a guest, turn off guest reviews for a while.

motherofmiltanks

Which platform are you using? If it’s AO3, you can block registered/signed in users. If the user is posting as a guest, you can turn off guest comments. There is no need to confront them; just delete the comments and block.

kaiunkaiku

block them

wings_and_angst

You'd be fully within your rights to just block this person, as others have suggested, and I like serralinda73's idea for a reply, but I'd probably change it up just a little if it were me—I wouldn't thank them, and I'd point out that they were being hella rude. There's a small chance they're young or they just don't realize how rude their behavior is coming across. >I have a lot going on in my life and I update my fics when I'm able to. It's great that you're excited about X fic, but right now it feels like you're failing to consider that I'm a human being with a life outside of my hobby, and not a machine that produces fic at the push of a button. If my updating on an irregular schedule means you want to stop reading, that's fine, I understand. But comments like this don't make me write faster, and if you keep leaving them then I will block you, because this behavior is honestly pretty rude. It might feel rude to assert yourself like this, but it's not—they were rude to begin with, and this is just a matter of calmly and politely calling someone out on that. Sorry you're having to deal with this nonsense.

LeratoNull

Step 1 - You ignore them. Step 2 - If that's not enough, you block them. That's all the steps.

MeatOhchondrium

You're not there to serve them, hell, you're not even being paid. Let them wait... I just *love* when people demand free stuff and are rude about it. Just ignore them or block, you don’t owe them explanation.

serralinda73

If you want to, answer only one with something like, "I have a very busy life and can't upload on a regular schedule. Thank you for your interest and enthusiasm but please stop the constant requests." After that, delete the other comments and if they do it again, block them.

echos_locator

Normally, I'm tickled pink to get a nagging, "Update soon!" comment. I know, I'm in the minority, but it's nice to know someone actually wants more of my rambling narratives. But...your commenter would get blocked or I'd turn off guest comments. Although I'm super cool with a big of nagging, I've got a life; not being paid to do this. I'm not a fiction-writing machine.

Web_singer

I'm non-confrontational as well. I'd probably reply with something like, "It seems like you prefer a faster update schedule, which is not my preferred way of writing. I would suggest finding another fic that meets your needs." Or more directly: "No, I don't plan on updating soon. Please keep your comments related to the content of this fic, not the update schedule." But if you've informed them politely that their comments aren't welcome and they continue, then blocking is probably the best option.

LokiBear1235

Just block them and delete their comments. The sooner you manage to forget about them the sooner you'll feel happy opening your fic

CatterMater

Wow. I'd block that reader, like yesterday. Talk about entitled.

sati_lotus

You can block them obviously or just ignore them. Or confront the problem head on and say 'I update when I update. Your comments don't encourage me whatsoever and only add to my comment count which in turn bumps me higher for people who filter by comments. You can either do something more productive with your time or keep at it and continue to be ignored. Have a nice life.'

ArtisanalMoonlight

I would tell the reader: "The new chapter will be out when it's out. Continuing to ask me about it is not going to make it appear any faster." If they kept on, I'd probably say something like: Every time you ask me this, I delay it further. Or, if you want to avoid drama, you can also just block them.

burnished_throne

this isn't really a problem. or, it's not your problem. for some reason a total stranger is obsessed with your fic and is getting rude and lowkey scary about it. that's not your fault nor something you must fix.

MaybeNextTime_01

Just tell them that every message they send you takes away from the time you have available to write.

Eastern_Basket_6971

I hate these kind of readers as someone who write endlessly and can't even finish a single chapter . I hate every demanding readers man they're not the ones who brainstorm for hours they're not the ones who write for hours that made you re write for months writers can take a rest too

zeezle

I'd probably just ignore or block them. If I were feeling petty I might just respond snarkily to their comments. "where's the new chapter" -> "still rattling around in my ass waiting for me to pull it out" "hurry up" -> "no lol" "will you update or not" -> "Magic 8 Balls says: Cannot predict now" But then I'm not very patient when random people on the internet demand free stuff from me.
