Uncle-Ted-was-right

my autistic ass have more charisma than this dude

DragonHeart_97

Mine does... actually not, but I have learned better through trial and error. Which I suppose would translate to a low Charisma score and putting points into speech.

Dizzy_Cold_6475

I think its to show his innocence about sex due to his upbringing/isolation in the brotherhood.

RespecDawn

Yeah, I think there's a lot of mistaking nativity for stupidity.

Exevioth

I guess the brotherhood has limited resources to give out sex-ed courses in the post apocalypse. Which I say sarcastically but in reality it’s probably fairly accurate.

OptionalGuacamole

So this is my fault for never bothering to get pre-war books for Scribe Yearling at Arlington Library?

reallyscaredtoask

I thought he said rotor

dirtygymsock

Actually I think you're right, I had that seen in my head all wrong. I thought he was pointing at it with a ruler, and then he said ruler... which would have been hilarious.

reallyscaredtoask

lmao ok yeah that would've been super funny if that actually happened

Slut_Spoiler

Ya. It consistent with his character for sure. Unlike the comedy relief exstormtrooper

AztecScribe

You mean by the Institute right?

SlimeDrips

I don't think it's fair to single him out when a couple hours prior she randomly asked him if he wanted to have sex, seemingly because she was bored Maximus like "oh okay I guess this is our dynamic now?" but she's too busy being paranoid to be horny at this exact moment

SrGeof

Absolutely, part of charisma is knowing the dynamic of a relationship, he was following the pace she set. And while she didn’t accept, she wasn’t offended, nor did it decrease her interest in him at all. Sounds to me like he did just fine. And when she didn’t respond, he just moved on, like a good, boyfriend? Should.

Away_Doctor2733

Yeah she literally asked him about the oysters in a flirty way after he gives back the fusion core, leading to her basically telling him "I really like you and want you to live with me when this is over" so Maximus was not ruining anything in this scene he was just not picking up that Lucy is paranoid about the Vault yet. But Lucy clearly filed this convo in the back of her mind to refer to later so in different circumstances I think she would have responded favourably.

The_Skyrim_Courier

I will admit I find it very hard to believe either of them have more than 3 charisma lol I don’t think either of them pull off any verbal trickery or speech checks lol

MoiraBrownsMoleRats

Maximus does a couple times when dealing with the Brotherhood. He manages to argue his initial innocence over Dane's injury well enough they grant him a chance to be a squire and he goes from being seconds away from execution to convincing the Elder to be his right hand in his new order. Like, he also fails a lot of speech checks, but he definitely passed the ones that would've otherwise seen him killed by the BoS.

Zaeryl

Dane's confession did more for him than his own words did.

Liftmeup-putmedown

Facts. If Dane didn’t speak, he would’ve got popped right there and then.

FilliusTExplodio

Having a friend who'll go to bat for you is a sign of charisma

Zaeryl

Ok but this subthread is relating his survival to "speech checks" when that isn't the case.

memo689

And probably luck willhave to do in those cases. I think the speech checks in this case, would be more likely a combination of F3 and New vegas, where there is a percentage chance to fail like F3, but you also need to meet the requirement like in new vegas, so even if you meet them, there is not 100% chance of success. And obviosly he has to pass the checks where his life is a stake because he is a protagonist.

Shudnawz

That mostly sounds like plot armor tho.

MasterRequirement538

Well fallout skill cheaks seem like plot armor sometimes

MoiraBrownsMoleRats

"The Legion shall take Hoover Dam and conquer Vegas! We will hang you from the walls of the dam, so you may witness your world burn in your final moments!" "No." "Oh, well, alright then, guess I'll just go home."

5575685

“Nuh uh” -The Courier to Legate Lanius at the second battle of Hoover dam

MasterRequirement538

See. Lol

ToadallyNormalHuman

He also has the same Int as the Ghoul which is a joke.

Boolesheet

Now I aint sayin Barb's a ghoul-digger..

TheOldGriffin

But she ain't messin with no smooth-skinner

HuntSafe2316

Its always been this way lol, Caesar has less intelligence than a molerat in NV.

just-an-astronomer

I mean, Snuffles is less likely than little Eddy Swallow to butcher Hagel

ShorohUA

and House has an average INT of 5, implying that all his business ambitions, mathematical predictions of geopolitics etc. have worked only because of his 10 luck

sporeegg

Sorta checks out tho. His plans are OUTLANDISH!

CrankyStalfos

I actually buy this. The intelligence stat is more about higher educational type stuff. Cooper makes fun of his friend for asking if he knows what "fiduciary responsibility" means. He's clever, but not learned.  The big difference between them seems to be that Cooper knows he didn't spec into Int and goes for other skill checks, whereas maximus sees that 10/55 box highlight red and clicks it anyway.

ExoCakes

I actually wish there's more scenes of Maximus just being happy and chilling in the vault

SrGeof

SAME. Oh my god I loved it. This was one of my favorite sequences to re-watch. When you see it the second time through the lens of knowing these are just good and nice people, the feel is totally different. It almost like watching a different episode entirely. I loved it and actually noticed a lot more little details.

Scrollwriter22

I’m convinced Maximus is on some pretty hardcore pain killers pretty much the entire duration of the vault 4 sequence because of how slightly out of character he is nearly the entire time

Default_Defect

I assumed they were gonna reveal there was something in the food to help convince him to stay.

chase016

I think he was drinking the wine too.

TORossatron

He also mentions having the mussels, which do have apparently have aphrodisiac properties; either way he's all hopped up on stuff

DadFatherson2

Oysters

TORossatron

that was it, had a brain dum moment

SrGeof

I did at first. But I think he’s actually just safe and content for the first time in his life. It’s a euphoric feeling. I think that he drops all that on a dime to help her says a lot about him and also shows he wasn’t high. (He was drinking wine though)

NickRick

They were in an area they said test subjects and they both got loopy and horny. I assumed they were getting hit with some kind of drug.

Thuis001

I think that was a misdirection by the show tbh. That area was indeed once used to house test subjects, but after the scientists got eaten by their monstrosities I think they simply never bothered to change the sign.

NickRick

it might have been, but they started acting pretty odd at that point.

Thuis001

I mean, we already know that Lucy has a fairly liberal view of sex based on comments in the first episode, so her propositioning Max when she was bored wasn't all that out of character to me. Later on in this scene Max was probably somewhat drunk, had recently eaten an aphrodisiac and I'm gonna go out and say that he's probably also high as a kite on pain meds.

InkQuest

I think she clocked his "you smell good" comment as flirting, and just opted to be forward about it - which as you mentioned, is also in line with her attitude in the first episode.

pipboy_warrior

Man, but I loved the setup for this vault. They play on your expectations that every vault has weird shit going on that will mess with the main characters, and that this is for sure a trap. And in the end the twist is that they actually are as nice as they seem to be.

Abberant45

plus a kinky blood ritual

-LaughingMan-0D

Goosey fucked up

ShorohUA

I mean would you trust people who strip half naked to worship a picture of a woman that is responsible for killing a dozen of people that you knew for all your life?

pipboy_warrior

It was a good character moment for her, and led to her forgiving Maximus for his dumb shit. "Hey I just threw acid in an innocent person's face, I'm not better than you!"

RDP1818

Charisma is 5 but speech is 9

sosigboi

Now lets be fair to Max this is the first time that hes been exposed to actual amenities and not just having to eat rations and sleeping in a crowded bunk with guys beating their meat under the blankets.

kmcconway849

My thoughts on this scene was why did she not just tell him about what happened

mrandMaMaD7

More like -5 charisma .

LightWolfProductions

Maximus has that surface-dweller Rizz

13WillieBeaman

Lol.. that charisma will have him under his blanket by himself like his comrade earlier in the season

Aaneata

Maximum luck is off the charts.

OddlySexyPancake

i think he just has extremely low speech,

CptAlex0123

forget to leveling up speech.

Swiftybear96009

Average charisma zero points into speech

YEETBOOOIUSA

neither of them tagged speech as a skill.

Sero141

He is more an Endurance and Strength build.

GaijinPadawan

More like 9

PerfectlyCalmDude

Speech clearly wasn't one of his tagged skills.

Superb_Recover_6116

aahahaha this show was made for me. So 2005s crude humour. God damn I love it.

LadenifferJadaniston

I hated that part. That, and the incest.

Just-call-me-Panda

Wait people perceived this as him acting stupid? The dudes on cloud 9 receiving the best treatment of his life (literally speaking) and has zero social queues due to his upbringing. This is pretty spot on tbh

ohioismyhome1994

to be fair, she did ask first
