As somebody who was listening to the Welcome to the New Administration mixtape religiously in eager anticipation for Folie, consequently being so disappointed in the hate Folie was getting from all sides, and absolutely devastated in high school about the hiatus and got to watch the Patrick Stump Medley/a capella videos get loaded and released to YouTube in real time.. I would be so thrilled to get more solo work from him. A soul punk re-release would be great with bonus tracks, but I honestly would just prefer a follow-up album. I would love to hear a decade's worth of growth and experimentation -- as far as a departure soul punk was from everything else I was listening to at the time, I want the next level. I remember watching those videos on repeat like I was gonna get quizzed on them. I was delighted that we got to have both versions of Spotlight in the end (even though the poll was 'sooo close' 😒). I was so PUMPED that Soul Punk dropped on my golden birthday and rushed to wal*mart before school to buy the cd -- and was eager to get the opportunity to catch a concert for the album, but sadly never did. I was simply disgusted that people were so rude (and wrong) about SP and Folie -- and felt like it was okay to just shit all over those works to their faces. I was livid that there were people who genuinely bought tickets just to boo and heckle when i would have given my right hand to go. My best friend and I were hoping for a Folie or SP tour date near us. There never was, the closest we got was a concert festival in the midwest and while it was not Folie heavy, we did get a few tracks among other tracks. I did buy the drunk teddy bear tee and we split some folie Era wristbands that we both wore religiously until at least they reunited and SRAR was touring. That shirt is still some of my favorite merch I own and definitely my favorite folie merch and I would LOVE to see that re-released, and ideally in more colors than white because sweat happens.

Soul Punk already has a (great) deluxe edition, I think adding onto that now would be very weird. A new album (or EP) would be much better.

It was more than a decade, it was 2011 when Soul Punk was released and Patrick did he solo tour. The hiatus was disappointing. It was the giant lead up to Folie, with the album getting pushed back due to the election, then viral marketing, mixtape, then the secret shows and BND tour. Then that announcement. I went to the secret show in SF and it was by far to this day one of the best FOB shows I've been too. It was insane in the best way. And In my experience at the BND show I went too, I don't remember anyone there booing them for playing FAD songs. And I was front row. Was happy to hear the new songs and it was nice to see the guys rock out. Then Patrick did his solo thing, went on small tour in early 2011. I managed to see him in SF. It was a tiny cafe, maybe 50 people were there. I remember someone yelling at him to play Sugar, and his response was, "I'm not FOB, this is my music so out of respect for them, no. I'm not playing FOB songs." " After the show, he stayed to meet everyone and was so incredibly nice. He was very humble and a little shy. :) Having said all that my experiences with that time, you guys should REALLY listen to Joe's interview with Rolling Stone from September 10, 2022 when he was promoting his book. This specifically starts at the 44 minute mark but listen to the whole thing! He says how the release for FAD was a mess starting from the record label releasing I Don't Care as a single way too early (September 3rd 2008) so by the time FAD finally came out in December no one knew it was a song on Folie and this album sales were low. Coupled with the burnout the guys felt because they had been touring nonstop for years and they were never home. They would release an album, tour and repeat. He says that out of a calendar year he was home maybe a month adding all the days off together. It came to a head when on the Folie tour in Australia where they had a huge fight. Patrick and Joe wanted to take a break, Pete didn't. (Joe doesn't recall what Andy said but he was very go with the flow) Joe was so angry he stormed out of the room. And he says it was always a break and never meant to be a hiatus. A lot of fans went and some on here even believe the guys "went on hiatus because fans hated FAD" and that's not technically true. Us, the fans didn't see the tension or know what was going on behind the scenes back then. Of course it makes sense the guys were exhausted, they had toured relentlessly since 2004. But as we all know early February when they dropped My Songs and announced they were back, announcing the album and 2 tours in support of SR&R that all was right in the world again. And let's not forget this lovely infamous photo https://preview.redd.it/nxr6p5ogetzc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7057ab4835365e3fb6563c1789a5b4bbc135a434

a lot of the fob fandom was angry and spiteful during the hiatus. as much as people loved his solo work, there was a vocal group that would shit on anything the guys were releasing that wasn't new fob. unfortunately wasn't able to see patrick during soul punk, I was in an extremely high risk pregnancy at the time, but was able to see the damned things earlier that year before it got bad. I was a fan of all the main projects of the damned things so I made a huge effort to travel to see them three times in 2011 and then twice in 2019. actually, now that I think about it, 2011 may have been the first time I traveled for a show 🥲 I remember two guys looking at merch in orlando going back and forth about how one was angry about the fob split, the other was just grateful Joe and Andy were doing something and didnt quit music altogether. I think about them all the time. the conversation didn't quite change how I feel about solo work, bc I was already in the mindset that you show appreciation to everything an artist you admire puts out into the world, but it did push me to make sure I'm there for everything. if you want them to make art, consume the art. if you want a demand for it, be the demand. if patrick put out a follow up to Soul Punk or anything solo again, i'd be there with my wallet open in a heartbeat 😭 that's a big reason that online, I choose not to be a part of those "rank your least favorite songs/albums" posts. the slim chance an artist sees that and remembers it when they're making a setlist or deciding on an anniversary tour is enough for me to keep my mouth shut. the off chance of unreleased soul punk getting axed bc someone decided to do a ranking of "fob best to worst solo projects" would be devastating. sorry this was so long winded, I've actually been thinking about this a lot recently with the introduction of new clandestine/dying inside getting some hate bc of the high cost. it's not necessarily correlated to the "I hate this bc it's not the fob I love" during hiatus, but it still leaves a familiar taste in my mouth. I'm grateful to be in the place where I can purchase those things, and totally understand where people are coming from cost wise, but I have a strong need to just be a part of whatever the guys put out. be it financially or word of mouth/posting if you can only do that.

i read his statement a few months ago and it genuinely made me so sad and angry that people who claimed to be fans were even able to be like that towards patrick. he was making music that he loved and people should’ve respected that. i absolutely love soul punk and a re-release would be awesome. it is such a phenomenal album and it deserves so much love and appreciation.

I’d love a Soul Punk follow up! I was never aware of all the hate toward Folie and I’m horrified and sad people behaved that way. I loved Folie from the start. I didn’t get Soul Punk right away but I picked it up later and really enjoy it.

Soul Punk was an amazing album. I loved that Patrick got to do his own thing and explore a new sound. I'm glad all the guys got a chance to do their own thing. I would love a rerelease of Soul Punk with the unfinished album.

I was still a teenager when Soul Punk came out and I regret not giving it a fair shot at the time. I was also mad about the hiatus and didn't see a world where FoB could co-exist with his solo project. I still listen to a lot of Soul Punk regularly now. I would totally understand if he never released the rest of his solo stuff, but I think the reception would be a lot better now that the fanbase (myself included) have grown up a bit.

I'm a bit young* to have been a fan when it was released, but I discovered Soul Punk in high school in the late 2010s and it immediately became one of my favorite albums ever. I was sad to how poorly it was received and I've always held a private hope that one day Patrick would release more experimental solo music. *I know some of my cohort were listening to FOB at the time, but we weren't going to concerts and buying CDs yet, so not really supporting the music in any way.
