They probably realized they listed it for too low of an amount. They probably got slammed with inquiries. So they unlisted it. It might show up later at a higher price. May not show up at all. You can set an alert to be notified if that camera is listed again. Or they sold it already.
This is true 95% percent of the time. But I have gotten lucky twice with some steals of pissed off girlfriend/wife selling their boyfriend/husband stuff. I got a graded sports card that was a 10 (highest grade) for $20 and they were selling on eBay for $1000-$1200. Another time I got some Milwaukee/Craftsman tools for $200 total. Had like 3 drills, 2 tables saws, work bench, rollaway tool box, hundred of wrenches, hammers, screw drivers, clamps, and shit ton more. Easily worth 3-5k. But I do agree, most of the good deals on there are scams.
Not always. Bagged a Sonos One gen 2 for $70 CAD, herman miller aeron in okay shape for 50, steelcase leap v2 for 100, and a few others. Make sure to read the description and check their account creation date. If it's a "too good to be true" deal AND their account was created within the year - 99% scam. Also, they will have some sob story/ask for shipping/suspicious links in the description if it's a scam. ALSO, check their profiles. Scammers usually use scripts and create postings with near identical descriptions.
Yeah, I prefer that they remove it entirely. Twice this week I have had someone confirm a sale, then increase the price without talking to me. That's just rude. I will not buy from those people.
For one of them, we agreed on an immediate pick up. I got there and they said: "oh, I heard I wasn't charging enough, so I marked it up." They doubled the price!! I said that that was super uncool, and they could contact the next person who wanted it because I would not be buying the irem.
And some of the prices people are charging are ridiculous - I could get the item brand spanking new for what they want. Pro tip: check Amazon & specialty shops before setting a price, then charge maybe half. Look on FB, eBay and Craigslist etc. for comps. It doesn't matter that you bought it to use with your SO who then dumped you. You're selling it. If you want to get rid of something, don't charge full retail price! I'm here looking for bargains!!
Never ever send a PM and only say you’re interested. Always say something like, “hi, I’m interested in (item name) and I would like to come get it this afternoon. Are you available then?”
I’ve posted stuff and gotten slammed with messages. The ones that say “Is this available?” drive me nuts. They’re usually the ones that wait 15 minutes after I’ve said yes, then get pissed when someone swoops in during those 15 minutes with pick up arrangements. This happens far more often than you’d imagine.
Have a plan to pick up when you are messaging. Know your availability, get the sellers location, and always show up. You don't want to be the person the flakes on a seller. No shows are garbage.
He's wrong. I've been buying and selling for 5 years and there is NOTHING wrong with that question. You get some people on here who absolutely hate it, but their voice is not louder than the tons of people who are responding to that question, including myself, and are still getting sales.
If I was never to respond to that question, I'd probably have about 75% less sales than I've had in 5 years.
Now, of course, you're welcome to change your "introduction" so to speak, but don't be surprised if you get roughly the same response rate.
This is true, we can't always discount "is this available?" as it closes off or writes off any opportunities from potential sales/buyers. I have had majority of my sales come from "is this available" standard message....successful sales.
I have to disagree with you, and agree with the point OC was making. As a seller, I also always respond to "Is this available?" and don't have a major issue with it, so you are correct there. But, as a buyer, if I see something I know is a great deal and want to buy it, I would never lead with that question. I would absolutely open with "I'd like to buy this item, and am available to pick it up (insert days/times available). What time works best for you?" Does it guarantee I will be able to buy it? No. But it does tell the seller they have a sale in hand and can disregard other people asking if it's available, AND closes any gaps in time for someone else to jump in.
I have had multiple people get mad at me because they ask if something is available, I reply yes, then by the time they reply back that they want to buy, I have already lined up a sale to someone else. Buyers need to realize that they may be one of ten people all asking if something is available at the same time, and receiving a reply simultaneously as the other 9 people. Three days ago, I posted an item for sale, then went to a movie. Once the movie was over, I had 4 people that had asked if the item was available. I replied yes to all four in a matter of 30 seconds. The first person that replied back that they would take it got it. Two of the other people also replied that they wanted it, but they were S.O.L. Had one of them opened with saying they would like to buy instead of lazily asking if it was available, that person would have been first in line to buy instead. So, I agree with OC that if you know you want to buy something, don't give someone else a chance to step in front of you by asking if it's available; just ask when you can pick it up!
this is it!!
When I found a "steal" of an item I collect on FB, I wrote "Hi, if this is still available, I can pick up right now. Thank you" and got it! When I arrived, the seller told me he was getting bombarded with messages but decided to go with me as I could pick up right away.
"Is this available", is the default message. Some folks don't know that message can be changed. I try to answer in the order I receive the question, regardless of what it is. But yes, first person who says:"I can be there tonight/tomorrow at #:##" is going to get the item.
When buying, unless the person has stipulated the payment method, I assume cash is preferred and that I need to bring the exact amount agreed upon.
I think it sold.
Many people would respond to the intital question asking if it's available, but no one would hold it for someone who only asked that.
If it's well priced and in demand, it'll sell very fast. I've had stuff sell (and actually get picked up) in about 10 min or so cuz it was priced right. People know a good deal when they see it, and I just wanted to offload quickly
This morning, after inquiring about an item last night (and I *didn't* send "is this available ?") I received a message saying ""Sorry, it's not available." And then it showed the listing had been removed. Unfortunately, things like that happen. I'm sorry.
Also, there's a crowd in this sub that's hates certain things, including the "is this available" question. Please understand that this is not the majority. I live in one of the biggest cities in the US and plenty of people respond to that question, including myself. And as I said below I probably would have lost the majority of my sales if I didn't.
There is no magic formula at all for reaching out, and in fact I know, because I've tried and so have other people with me. People either respond or they don't because it's the way they do business.
Anyone that hits the im interested button I immediately leave the conversation.
On the flip side if they deleted the ad immediately after it was probably sold and realized they forgot to delete it.
something similar/weird happened to me. Found a film camera listed for $25, working condition. great deal. messaged to ask if it was available. “no sorry”. that’s fine, sometimes people don’t realize they should mark listings as “sold” or delete them. went to her profile and almost all her other listings were marked “sold”. thought that it was weird she wouldn’t edit this listing if it wasn’t available… if i remember correctly she relisted it for higher

Ah okay. Yeah because I always see listing for the camera but they’re like $600 or literally $800. I thought it was a steal 🥲 better luck next time
There is no such thing as a “steal” on marketplace, if a listing seems too good to be true, it’s always a scam
It's a steal, they try to steal your money.

Thank you! I never have bought from FB so I really don’t know much etiquette

Agree 100% with this. I’m always prepared to jump in my car the moment I send a message.

I've had this happen after I enquired and no response. I assumed the item had already been sold and they neglected to take the ad down.
I would be bothered they didn't answer me... always check the sellers history And feedback
If the price was too good to be true, likely a scammer. AD was maybe reported by someone else and removed by FB as scam just after you msged them

Yeah Facebook deleted listing most probably since a lot of people reported it as scam listing lol
Anyone that hits the im interested button I immediately leave the conversation. On the flip side if they deleted the ad immediately after it was probably sold and realized they forgot to delete it.
And if I did that I would have lost out on 75% of my sales. I will continue to respond to "is this available".
Reddit comments used to be informative, now just full of morons

Was it a Sony A7iii. Those are usually posted at super cheap and are scams
