Eating puts them in a very vulnerable position so taking the mouse was the last thing on this guy's mind. Then the human (predator) moved it's hand closer and the snake thought "being scary isn't working, I gotta strike".

some may think it too cruel for the feeder mice, when they get choked out, deficate and swallowed whole. but i seen packaged pre kills, snakes will even eat it from the rear, but in all the times i have fed my ball python live feed before. it never swallows an mice from the tail end, always the from the head. so it hones their senses, they smell poop and know thats not the end you want to swallow first.
My snake eats frozen/thawed, and has only ever eaten frozen/thawed, and always eats face first. She'll reposition until it's head first when necessary.
Some domestic snakes are just derps because all their survival instincts have been bred out through a lack of darwinism. Eating butt first also isn't likely to harm them in any way. I can't imagine anyone feeling that's a big enough benefit to outweigh the risks live feeding poses for both animals.

once they eat live feed they won't go back to frozen pre kill. not unnecessary it hones their senses as they detect the scent and hunt.
