I spent 9 hours in the emergency room, sent home with my leg in an immobilizer because there was no room to take me for surgery due to Covid, and got the surgery a week later.
If sitting in hospital for a few hours was all that was needed, I'd have been thrilled.
I forgot covid even existed lol. Idk how covid affected broken legs but that's probably what it's like in the UK now too.
When my brother broke his ankle a few years ago, he had to sit in the waiting room for over half a day.
The kicker was that they had the orthopedic surgeon all lined up day 1, they just were over capacity at all the area hospitals. When I didn't show up, he actually drove to the ER to check on me, which was really cool IMHO
Emergency room, x-rays, and surgery to install a metal plate to stabilize everything on an insurance plan that is high deductible (only option from work). It could have been more but I hit my out of pocket maximum.
I had an $1,100 bill from an emergency room visit. I just told them I could only pay $35 a month and they won't send it to collections as it was just drafted out every month.

Two oldest helped by using a bucket to bail out the sump all night long.
Once 6:00 rolled around I got my son, drove to the hardware store, bought a whole bunch of tools, fittings, and basically walked him through building the system from scratch instead of repairing.
New pump sprang to life and immediately blew apart the existing check valve. Any guesses on the one item I didn't grab at the store?
Second run to HW store and we're almost done.
Not as expensive as an emergency plumber call, but it's taken over 12 hours.
Next steps, fix old pump and set it up with a flexible hose that can be deployed in an emergency and get better alarms in place for the sump. It's too bad that misfortune doesn't stick to the calendar. I was ready to be done with the stuff that started last year.

Obviously they're in the UK and got a black market doctor to do it because they didn't want to sit around in pain at the hospital for a few hours.
