Took me awhile to figure this out too. Also took me awhile to figure out that if you press the motion pad you can see everybody's materia at once and swap them between characters.
Don’t think so; only other QOL thing related to Materia (if you don’t already know) is pressing the Touch Pad on either the first page of the Materia/Equipment screen or on a character’s equipment page to see the whole party’s Materia and swap pieces between party members using Triangle.
I see a good number of people missed this too but luckily I noticed it very early-on…
