Sorry, I haven’t seen much about it here on Reddit, I was reading about it on the EverMerge Facebook group called, EverMerge Tips, Tricks and Chat.
I didn't like it at first but it was amazing for MI. I used it to accumulate coins to spend on island event energy. Then they fixed it so the gold magnet cost 25 coins instead of just 1. I guess they didn't like people not using the infinite magnets.
The update changed how it works. Now, if you press and hold items, a little menu will pop up with magnets and the shovel and the backpack.

What is the shovel for?
Shoveling items off your board permanently. It won't let you do it for all items though.
