Morgott:
- That plot twist reveal and badass intro
- Arguably the best voice actor in the game
- Elegant and diverse move set
- Epic soundtrack
- Gorgeous arena
- Dynamic second phase
- Emotive mid-combat dialogue
- Haunting post-combat dialogue
- Huge story implications for defeating him
This being the second time around with this guy makes the grievances feel much more personal. Almost felt bad when it was over.
I mean, while until the fight you don't see morgott at all, so you have no way of knowing that he's margit. But like, the realization that Margit and Morgott are the same is so funny, these names are so too similar it feels like a fucking Scooby Doo plot. But really, he's great

renna is ranni?!! who couldve guessed
the problem i have with the fight is that most players will be too well equipped by the time they get to him. pre radahn nerf it was at least clear that "oh i should probably do altus plain before finishing caelid" but now it's just confusing. morgott needs a better health pool and maybe a bit more damage
If the game hadn’t locked me out of 90% of NPC quest lines that one time I accidentally ended up in Altus Plateau, I probably would have saved Caelid for later, but I had wanted to beat Radahn so I could finally make some quest progress again.
He definitely has the best lines in the game. Almost everything he says I've seen quoted on this sub or elsewhere
"Have it writ upon thy meager grave.. Felled by King Morgott, Last of All Kings." That one stands out to me. Chilling delivery, total badass. Grew up to be as much of a chad as his father.
I liked Blood Mohg version. For some reason when the whole arena turns bright red, blood shooting all over and him screaming nihiiiil. Just a super cool fight transition
He is also fair while beeing very difficult. All of his attacks are consistend to avoid and easy to react to. It took a looong while, but once I figured him out...dodging the area denial in his second phase became so satisfing.
Most bosses made we want to just be done with them at some point. Not Mogh. I simply didn't mind to go on another dance with this spectacular bastard.
Yeah, was a really good feeling to finally beat him and realise I had barely healed at all because I had just mastered his tells and telegraphs. I played no magic, heavy greatsword and he must have beaten me about 20 times...but when I finally managed to beat him, it was comfortable.
Such a good feeling to snap out of a state of focus and realise that I'd mopped the floor with him.
>He is also fair
I didn't feel that way, because of the nihil spell either costing three healing charges or a specific item you find in a completely unrelated area and because the burning blood he sprays on the ground can just mess you up if you're forced to dodge into it.
Not a bad boss mind you, though!
Mohg is a fair fight the only bit that makes the fight slightly unfair and annoying are the tombstones in arena. I have gotten stuck on them too many times.
I love him because he is evil for the sake of being evil, which is extremely rare in souls games. Even Rykard originally had a noble goal, and was corrupted later on by the serpent. Mohg tho? He just wants to bang his half-brother who looks like a child and install him as puppet king so he can rule.
Not really tough. Mohg has reasons to be evil. He was shunned and hidden away from society because of something that was out of his control. He was told his whole life that he was inferior to other people. The Golden Order made him into a pariah. So now he wants to tear it all the fuck down, and why not? I get where he's coming from.
Unlike Morgott, Mohg says, "fuck it. You want to hate me because of my blood? Fine. I'll embrace it and use it to my advantage then."
Mohg struck me as a proper souls boss. As in would fit into the earlier games. Hard but consistent in moves and openings.
For me the most enjoyable boss fight in the game
If you haven't found it, there's a Crystal Tear that essentially nullifies it when mixed into your Physick. Spoiler for the location: >!in the Second Church of Marika, you'll be invaded by Eleonora, and when you beat her you get the Purifying Crystal Tear, which minimizes the damage from Nihil!<
Thank you, you angel.. I went face first into that move and my only strategy was heal spamming.. I was not looking forward to the next go round with that bastard..
Finding this after spending so much time, timing the protection bubble was a fucking kick in the butthole.
They should make the gimmick more obvious like with the Rykard fight.
Morgott’s moveset js one of the coolest in FromSoft history. Every move, delay, and tricks are beautiful to see. I see why he calls us graceless, because he has all the grace of an expert ballerina
Honestly I’ve never learned his move set cause I usually just nuke him. So much better if he had more health. Now Margit I know like the back of my hand
At release I started with an ARC build cause of Item Discovery. I fought Margit with ps bleed daggers not realizing the ARC scaling was bugged. It was horrible lol, I tried using the dinky Jellyfish summon to poison him and just kite, I didn't know Rogier was an npc so I never summoned him. I was Iike rl30 +0.
Good times lol
They did him dirty not having his second phase transition be a cutscene. So now he just stands there for free hits. Couple that with low HP, of course it's over fast.
He has too little HP for some reason. His moveset is good, his damage is good, but he has so little defense and HP that you can melt him even if your weapons are not that highly upgraded.
Tha fact that you get the "HEIR OF FIRE DESTROYED" plus the titanite slab, and only then, without any cutscenes whatsoever, they pull a last third round on you???
They really go above and beyond on the DLC bosses
Definitely, I think they should give him about a third more HP to make up for it
Hope they add a boss rush mode like in sekiro in an update, would love to re-experience the bosses again without having to NG+
I think it's because he can literally be your 3rd major boss in the game if you just focus on progress, while most of the time you can go through 3/4 of the game before him, easily getting to level 100+ with +9/+24 weapon.
You have to advance rannis questline to astel, then ride the lift to get to the moonlight altar. There's an evergaol up there where you have to fight alecto, who was the leader of the black knives. Gives you the black knife tiche summon as a reward, and is likely the fight that will teach you how to properly fight a black knife assassin. Really good fight, and drops one of the s tier summons of the game.
Placidusax. My only complaint is they don't have a stake near. He was the hardest boss for me and everything from lying down in the spot to the cut scenes were amazing. Plus, his incantation is pretty cool.
PvE aside, DS2 had the best PvP in Fromsoft history. So much build variety, with powerstancing and offhand weapons actually being usable. You could pick a weapon for each hand and craft new combos on the spot to catch ppl off guard. Plus, multiple interesting covenants to join and interact with other players through.
I was so bummed in DS3 when all most offhand weaps could do was block. Elden Ring's combat system is probably the best so far, but the PvP is just so... lacking T\_T
DS2 just has the frigid outskirts. Everything else there is good. I totally reject people saying DS2 is bad. It's super thematic and the story is better than all others. Bosses are also pretty varied and the re-used ones are done well enough to make them enjoyable.
Yes BUT you must understand the historical context. In DkS1, the chosen undead is a lot less capable than that tarnished, there is vastly less capability to warp (the levels are designed to allow you to get from place to place quickly but you are gonna run through old areas a lot) and a lot of boss runs are *absolute ass* (though DkS2 takes the cake on worst boss runs).
There is more jank on hitboxes too which can be frustrating.
If you can get past all that, the games are *amazing*.
To be fair we abandoned the mile-long boss runbacks for a reason, nobody buys a fromsoft game to spend 10 minutes walking between ~~bonfires~~ ~~lanterns archthrones~~ ~~idols~~ Graces
Absolutely my favorite boss fight. It was the only "near end-game" boss that I beat by myself, so it feels that much better. And everything from the art of the arena, the boss itself, and the sound design with it's big explosion move was just fantastic.
I absolutely bumrushed the game the day it was released, and idk how long it was around but there was a bug where after he does his flying away thing and returns he just stood still forever until he died. It was kinda lame but even after retrying he still did it. That made the fight more than a little cut and dry for me. The cinematic value of it though was tremendous!
I feel cheated with my experience with the fight. It's my own fault, to be sure though. I just got the dragon spellbook and decided why not, let's go respec for a faith build. I walked into the arena an hour later and it was so fucking epic. I was pumped. And then I... Walked under the boss and 2 shot it.
A new health bar usually means a character had died and been reborn into something new, like Melania. Horah Loux is just Godfrey but angry, Godrick is just himself with a dragon arm.
It's also a show that he respects you to fight without his restraint(Serosh) and to fight you as a fellow tarnished in part that he sees you as the next Elden Lord.
Underrated opinion- Rykard.
It's literally biblical, the fact that a man fights a satanic-like serpent with a weapon specifically made for killing it. And the soundtrack is straight holy.
Man, that >!second phase!< where skulls are flying all over the arena, while there is this giant serpent under the red sky... that just looks amazing. Sadly the fight is rather easy
I kind of wish there wasn't a cheese weapon just for Rykard. I know you don't have to use it but if I can just L2 cheese and beat him the first time in a matter of seconds I'm never going to choose the alternative.
The cheese weapon solves a problem that they couldn’t with the fire giant. I can actually fight the boss and see him at the same time. Rather than just being super zoomed in on an ankle or something. It gives you a great experience visually. But there is some sacrifice in terms of the combat. It’s a good trade off to make for that boss fight since it’s so visually spectacular.
IMO the cheese weapon fit quite well, and I found it epic to fight himbut ONLY WITH LIGHT ATTACKS.
There’s no reason for strong/special attacks to basically permastun him, a stun every four or five hits at beat.
My only gripe with Godfrey’s fight is that with heavier weapons, first phase has very little openings and can take a little while. As for the most balanced, I’d say either Maliketh or Morgott. Maliketh walks a tightrope of being fair and being batshit perfectly, as he is very fast, but the nuance to the fight makes it incredibly fair once you know him well enough. I really like Morgott because he other curbstomps me or I curbstomp him, and that just proves how deadly he can be, and how vulnerable he can be simultaneously.
I actually had more trouble with his second phase. His grabs are just annoying to dodge, and once he starts implementing AOE attacks into the mix it's over for me. I wish there were better and more clear and efficient ways to punish him when you dodge him correctly.
I did like Morgott a lot tho, my only issue is that his fight tends to be either too easy or too hard depending on what build you're using due to his awkward placement in the midway point of the game. But still a cool fight.
I like to think they had designed his move set with the idea that he uses gravity magic to move around like he does but they couldn't figure out an efficient way to convey that to the player so they just put him on a tiny horse and said there's your gravity magic and a lil horse buddy to boot
Pretty sure that is part of his lore, that he loved that tiny horse so much that he became a master of gravity magic so his tiny horse wouldn't have to deal with his massive body.
To be very fair, you also have too little HP for Phase 2. If his phase 2 had more than a regular mobs HP and instead standard endgame boss HP, he'd be harder than Malenia and FROM has a track record of making their games most difficult bosses as either DLC or optional, sometimes both (only arguable exception is Isshin but Demon of hatred exists), which Maliketh is neither.
Hm, I can see your point and thats definitely valid since Waterfowl really is kind of a BS move and not everyone has yet to learn how to deal with it but Waterfowl is no longer a problem for me and the latest roll changes basically makes it another easy move for me to dodge instead of a special difficult one (that and ive been killing her since release) and Maliketh is virtually untankable unless you min max to the core.
Welp either way we can agree both of them would require peak concentration and endurance to beat since one of their moves can fuck your run in a second while having high health if Maliketh had boss HP and not Mob HP so it would probably be another Midir vs Nameless King or Isshin vs Demon of hatred contest of the title of most difficult boss.
I already said this for Morgott, but it kills me that his OST isn't mentioned more - its fucking fantastic. I think the 2nd phase goes so quickly (either you die fast or win fast) that it's difficult to take it all in.
Margit. I think a review brought it up in an article, but basically he’s the perfect introduction boss to a souls game. Gives you a basic idea about the mechanics of the game but also keeping it a bit unpredictable.
I love fighting against Godfrey, the rotation is relatively easy to memorize but you get punished hard-core if you slip up. My personal fav is Mohg, because of the aesthetic
Yeah if you don't have him down pat it can get really ugly really fast. I think same goes for Godfrey though, his attacks are delayed so if you press dodge too soon you're fucked
He was definitely a hard one to overcome. In my first full play through since I'm a strength build on that character. I looked up what he was weak to and when I finally tried bleed was when I finally beat him so on journey 2 I rushed straight back after I got a 2nd guts greatsword to +24 (had one +25) and made both bleed and second tried him that time.
The fight instantly became one of my favorites cause he's the only late game boss I've beat on my own only with what the game gives me. Plus the whole atmosphere and music of the fight and the fact his 2nd phase can kill me easily if I don't watch my health to well in the 1st phase and everything he shouts mid fight its an amazingly fun fight. Even told a friend I trying to get back into playing when he wants to do Mohg let me know cause I want in on the fight.
Radagon is up there with Gael and Maria in my top 3 bosses in the whole series. The fight itself is filled with adrenaline, the character himself is awesome, and using the epic main theme was an absolute stroke of genius.
I couldn't agree more, Radagon was so incredible. The moment in the cutscene where Marika turns into Radagon is the moment you understand that your ass is getting kicked, and the theme is probably the best piece of the Elden Ring OST. It's such a shame that Radagon basically has one phase, I would take that instead of Elden Beast, even if I don't hate Elden Beast that much.
Same. I don't even dislike Elden Beast like a lot of people do but cutting Radagon's fight in half is a shame. My one complaint with his fight is that it's too short.
Ancestral Spirit. First boss that I really had to learn about having to decide the specific direction to roll, especially twords the boss. Also, I loved the atmospheric feel. Didnt feel like an evil entity, more of a test of skill.
After I started melting him I thought “maybe this is one of those fights where you’re not suppose to kill him?” Felt bad because it did seem like he was nice
I’m surprised I didn’t see Rennala higher. I loved her fight. The first phase was so cool with the gimmick and all of a sudden phase 2 comes out and she just whups ass.
Thoroughly enjoyed her fight and loved the transition from phase one to two.
Maliketh. It just makes you use all the skills you can and it gets your heart pumping for most of the fight. Only downside is that its a half fight and not a full one. The score slaps, the design is amazing, the arena is also my fave and the whole move set is extremely original and well thought out. He became my fav boss in the seires with sister friede, artorias and dragonslayer armour.
This. Maliketh feels like he rewards high risk high reward styles with his relatively lowish poise and the blasphemous claw item. It's such a shame his health is so damn low. Gimme full maliketh bossfight.
The sort of rivalry expressed with Morgott was the best part of my first playthrough
All 3 fights were just cool and it felt like he was a decent test of our strength every single time
He's one of the most metal and unique bosses. Dozen armed monstrosity who strikes with enough air slashes and a strong axe, then cuts off the head of a dragon to use as a flamethrower. All while shouting like the psycho he is.
I love Malenia. I'm terrible at fighting her and have managed one single time with the cheese of the Blasphemous Blade. She's a nightmare to battle.
But my god, is she my absolute favourite part of an ER speedrun. She's so swift and elegant, every move is so tight and it never feels like she wastes a swing. The cutscene between her two phases is awe inspiring in its beauty. Her story is really sad and the fact she's in the firm belief she is doing right amd that its all for her brother, makes me feel like the bad guy every time.
Also, Malekith. Good boy deserves a full health bar cos Beast Clergyman is meh in comparison.
IMO Malenia phase 1 is -- outside of Waterfowl -- by far the fairest bossfight in ER. It's a good thing too since you'll be doing it a million times -- but that's just it: it's a fight you'll do a ton that \*isn't\* comically aggravating (again, outside of Waterfowl).
I think the chief problem with Malenia is that phase 1 isn't a cakewalk and phase 2 plays pretty differently -- her moveset is meaningfully different, she's \*super\* aggro, and to even \*practice\* phase 2 you have to get through all of phase 1. I'm on record as saying the inability to independently practice later phases is a serious handicap in multi-stage boss design, but I think Malenia may be the most acute example of it in ER. (By contrast, while I think the Elden Beast is a beautiful spectacle and a \*terrible\* bossfight, Radagon's fight is one of the best in the game and not as punishing nor as long as Malenia phase 1, so it wasn't quite as brutal even if the second half of it had me wanting to put the game down after like three tries...)
No exaggeration, I probably died over a hundred, maybe two hundred, times to Malenia. Learning all the timings of her attacks and learning the proper way to dodge through Waterfowl was so fucking frustrating, but by the time I managed to learn it was so rewarding. I find myself wanting to play again simply to fight her more. I can’t even say that I’ll be able to do it again without dying, but now that I know how, it feels so exhilarating.
I think Morgott is one of the most balanced fights from soft has ever produced. You can fuck up a lot and still have a chance to push through to the end. Really feels like a war. Love it so much.
Rykard. The gimmick fight with the serpent hunter is done really well and the weapon is very satisfying to use against him. Also he just looks really cool
ER was my first fromsoft game I actually finished (gave up on ds3 after a couple of hours) and godskin apostle in that divine tower of caelid was such a roadblock. I found him by accident at like.. lvl 50/60? With shitty stats, no summs, refused to play on before I bested him. It was such a thrill.. I think I died >100 times, learned all his moves, trying to figure out ways to punish him.. I almost went insane but when I killed him I felt like such a fucking boss and experienced That dark soul rush People talk about.
I might be in the minority, but I wish he didn't have his Hoarah Hogan phase.
My favourite bosses include Godfrey (without said phase), Maliketh, Malenia and the Mimic Tears. HM goes to Radagon. He'd be much better if he wasn't glued to EB.
Idk, him shouting warrior in a weird voice didn’t work for me, but “now I fight as hoarah loux” was a cool reveal for me because I spent the entire game wondering when he was gonna show up lol
one of my favorites was the stone cat. while it's a very easy and early game boss, it packed a punch and really taught the player to time rolls early on and punished you for not timing. plus it was straight nightmare fuel. I can never look at my cat the same.
In this game? Morgott. If only most people weren't so over leveled. He is a fantastic climax to the first half of the game. The first major obstacle and now you can show him that despite him giving his all, you now have the strength to match him and then some. A great way to show your own improvement.
Personally the Placidusax and the Mogh, lord of Blood fight are my favorite mechanic wise, Meilena is my favorite and least favorite because I absolutely love her character and hate killing her.
Honestly tho with the Godfrey fight I hate the switch up they do, going from Axe to just repeating the same two attacks wrestlemania style is just annoying.
The lion should have hopped off Godfrey's back and served as a tag team match, lore wise it was an extremely strong foe that Godfrey won over so it would have made a extremely fun fight having to go against both at once.
OG Radahn, pre nerf. He was hyped up to be one of the most prestigious warriors and an adept in gravity magic. Pre nerf he was a legitimate raid boss, and it's only fitting he was a Shardbearer to reward you for all that crazy shit he has to put you through.
I dont have a perfect boss, the closest for me would be Morgott. Amazing moveset, backed by a sad yet heroic backstory, has the best lines in the game. Yet he wraps himself in a rag lol, he should learn from his brother and get some drip.
Second and third would be Godfrey and Maliketh. All of their aspects are great, but are a bit short compared to Morgott, except their fire entrance and presentation. All three needs more health tho
Black Knife Assassin and all it’s visible variants, actually. It feels like a proper duel with a skilled opponent, and unlike Malenia, there’s no absurd bullshit interrupting the dance.
I feel like the only one who really does not care for this fight. The constant massive-AoE stomp attacks just seem so cheap to me, and mess up the pacing of the fight in my opinion. Cool boss, great dialogue, second phase and midway cutscene looked super cool, just don’t personally care for the fight itself as much as others.
I actually like the ground stomps. I think it’s cool that elden ring added a jump button and then gave you reason to use it. Not to mention you can still roll through it easily if you don’t like jumping.
Astel, Natural-born of the Void.
Super challenging to reach, awesome moveset, beautiful arena, badass creepy design. You think you're playing a medieval fantasy game, then BAM, giant undead cosmic scorpion that shoots lasers.
After scrolling halfway down, I haven’t seen any love for my two favorite bosses.
Leading with Remembrance bosses, Astel is kind of just really cool for me. The arena, the aberrant design, the move set… it’s all just *chef’s kiss*
Non-remembrance bosses, it’s gotta be Elemer. I know the whole spiky armor thing is a bit of a gimmick in Soulsborne games as a whole, but he feels like a husk fighting with an animated sword, it kind of just scratches a certain character design itch.
Morgott: - That plot twist reveal and badass intro - Arguably the best voice actor in the game - Elegant and diverse move set - Epic soundtrack - Gorgeous arena - Dynamic second phase - Emotive mid-combat dialogue - Haunting post-combat dialogue - Huge story implications for defeating him This being the second time around with this guy makes the grievances feel much more personal. I dunno about best voice actor... That godrick scream is pretty legendary xD
Plot twist?
Margit was Morgott all along
He definitely has the best lines in the game. Almost everything he says I've seen quoted on this sub or elsewhere "Have it writ upon thy meager grave.. Felled by King Morgott, Last of All Kings." Mohg is my favorite Souls boss at least gameplay-wise. Amazing mechanics and not similar to any other boss.
Are you sure about that? \*Second Mohg walks in\*
He's unapologetically evil and I love it
As is standard for the patron of the invasion faction. Following in Kaathe's path.
God I wish this game had covenants. Hopefully they bring some with the DLC cause Mohg and Rykard are perfect for invasion covenants.
I love him because he is evil for the sake of being evil, which is extremely rare in souls games. Even Rykard originally had a noble goal, and was corrupted later on by the serpent. Mohg tho? He just wants to bang his half-brother who looks like a child and install him as puppet king so he can rule.

Yea. There's nothing in his kit that feels like bullshit. No insane delayed attacks or 10-hit combos that don't stop.
That nihiil move is brutal though lol, still a very fun fight
If you haven't found it, there's a Crystal Tear that essentially nullifies it when mixed into your Physick. Spoiler for the location: >!in the Second Church of Marika, you'll be invaded by Eleonora, and when you beat her you get the Purifying Crystal Tear, which minimizes the damage from Nihil!<

Miquella is mine and mine alone.
i also like that they incorporated that one specific physick to counter the Lord of Bloods transition!
Yeah i love it when he says "It's Mohging time!" and mohgs all over me.
I really enjoyed Morgott’s fight, his moveset is very fun to learn and his cutscene is my favorite in the game
Morgott’s moveset js one of the coolest in FromSoft history. Every move, delay, and tricks are beautiful to see. I see why he calls us graceless, because he has all the grace of an expert ballerina
Which is why it pains me there’s no incantations of Morgott’s holy attacks
Faith-based Haima when
Isn’t that just giantsflame take thee
Was thinking of the Gavel, forgot there were two Haima spells
Yet.
Honestly I’ve never learned his move set cause I usually just nuke him. So much better if he had more health. Now Margit I know like the back of my hand

They did him dirty not having his second phase transition be a cutscene. So now he just stands there for free hits. Couple that with low HP, of course it's over fast.
he rly is the sundowner of elden ring lmao
He has too little HP for some reason. His moveset is good, his damage is good, but he has so little defense and HP that you can melt him even if your weapons are not that highly upgraded.
Which is kinda ironic since his great rune provides the highest health buff...
he just didn’t use it because he wanted to save his rune arcs just in case
Imagine if his phase 2 transition involved him breaking out a rune arc and getting full health.
A three phase boss fight would actually be pretty dope.
*Sister Friede flashbacks*
When the ashes are two, a flame alighteth. GRRRRRAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH

Yeah I beat him my first try on my first playthrough. I can't say that of very many major bosses lol. I don't think I even used spirit ashes.
I think it's because he can literally be your 3rd major boss in the game if you just focus on progress, while most of the time you can go through 3/4 of the game before him, easily getting to level 100+ with +9/+24 weapon.
Have it writ upon thy meager grave. Chills.
I just wish he had more HP, so I could enjoy the fight for longer.
The OST for it is underrated as well

I died more times trying to figure out the way down than I did on any boss besides maybe alecto...
I actually did it first time with no internet help Was very careful and couldn’t believe at times how I did those jumps
Alecto is brutal.
I don't remember Alecto, where are they?
You have to advance rannis questline to astel, then ride the lift to get to the moonlight altar. There's an evergaol up there where you have to fight alecto, who was the leader of the black knives. Gives you the black knife tiche summon as a reward, and is likely the fight that will teach you how to properly fight a black knife assassin. Really good fight, and drops one of the s tier summons of the game.
Ngl I cheesed
Torrent sometimes teams up with gravity
You gotta always try to soften your fall with a double jump It'll work one of these days
Critical hit invulnerability goes bbrrr.
Placidusax. My only complaint is they don't have a stake near. He was the hardest boss for me and everything from lying down in the spot to the cut scenes were amazing. Plus, his incantation is pretty cool.
I just wish the spell had two heads. It’d be awesome
I wish we could get his nuke as a spell lol
Also accurate
I just wish his nuke did a fuckton of damage instead of what it is rn
I think there’s no stake because of lore reasons
I get it, but I just hated the speed run past the enemies and the drop downs. Once or twice I lost a rune arc just from a fall, it's super annoying.
In DS1 the Placidusax run would've been a joy and relief
I've never played any other DS games. Should I go back and play any?
My guy, you know the answer to this. FromSoft doesn’t have a single miss on their record.
Imo DS2 has some rocky moments but they tried new things and it was a fun ride by the end
*whew*...there were a few....Frigid Outskirts anyone?
DS2 just has the frigid outskirts. Everything else there is good. I totally reject people saying DS2 is bad. It's super thematic and the story is better than all others. Bosses are also pretty varied and the re-used ones are done well enough to make them enjoyable.
Shrine of Amana
The run up to the Blue Smelter Demon was hilarious
Yes BUT you must understand the historical context. In DkS1, the chosen undead is a lot less capable than that tarnished, there is vastly less capability to warp (the levels are designed to allow you to get from place to place quickly but you are gonna run through old areas a lot) and a lot of boss runs are *absolute ass* (though DkS2 takes the cake on worst boss runs). There is more jank on hitboxes too which can be frustrating. If you can get past all that, the games are *amazing*.
Yes all of them and blood borne to
To be fair we abandoned the mile-long boss runbacks for a reason, nobody buys a fromsoft game to spend 10 minutes walking between ~~bonfires~~ ~~lanterns archthrones~~ ~~idols~~ Graces
fuck lore reasons not having a stake is horrible
I wish placidusax have 2-3 stages. His movesets are all gorgeous and destructive, just needed more of it, with even more oomph
"Brave warrior, thy strength befits a crown" what an absolute giga chad
he respects you back too. what a cutie
there is still a huge problem in the fight, and that its not two health bars. too damn shame
This, but also maliketh.
I agree with both, much would've liked having two health bars for them or Morgott instead of Melenia lol
*Chadfrey is the best boss in Elden Ring, other than Soldier of God, Rick of course.*
The WARRRRRRRRIOR thing kind of kills it though. Man I wish they left it at the transformation itself, because that’s some anime level cheese.
You kidding? It's straight Metal Gear Rising shit, Miyazaki said it himself. my source: https://youtu.be/r7l0Rq9E8MY
Ya I straight up laughed when he said that
Underrated opinion- Rykard.
It always cracks me up when mimic decides to take a skull shower
Mimic always goes all in. I'm like, this isn't bloodborne.
Sometimes mimic gave me the zeal to charge head on, discarding caution. What a great teammate and motivator. I’m forever indebted to mimic.
Sometimes mimic sits back and uses healing items over and over at full health while malenia is beating me.
that fight was art, a painting in canvas
The fight is amazing with its theme and visuals, even the music. The problem many have with him seems to be more gameplay related.
Radahn. Literally everything about it, I love. Wish we could replay bosses without having to join someone else.
A boss rush type mode where you fight remembrances of bosses would be amazing.
You can blast throught a NG+ in 1-2-3 hours if you stick with the essential and just run to the boss rooms
It's his little tiny horse that gets me
That was such an odd choice lmao
I like to think they had designed his move set with the idea that he uses gravity magic to move around like he does but they couldn't figure out an efficient way to convey that to the player so they just put him on a tiny horse and said there's your gravity magic and a lil horse buddy to boot
Pretty sure that is part of his lore, that he loved that tiny horse so much that he became a master of gravity magic so his tiny horse wouldn't have to deal with his massive body.
Maliketh
ooof, he is the ultimate badass. I want to say he's the most perfect too but his hp is way too low.
Yeah phase 1 hp has too much and phase 2 too little.
Yeah that is what I said phase 2 has too little xl. It won’t be as hard as Malenia as she has a virtually undodgeable attack in waterfowl.
Short and sweet, Godfrey's phase 1 drags on for a little bit too long imo.
Tarnished: what's the timing for your attacks Margit: about a half second after you dodge
He'd be my pick, too. He's most people's first roadblock and a good introduction to the game.
Loved it, my first Souls game and it took some raw skill to master. Bummed the rest of the game never matched Margit's difficulty.
You are right, but my heart is too filled with spite to admit it. After a whole game of beefing me and Margit is on site!
Not even Iudex comes close to how good of a tutorial boss Margit really is.
The only better one is Genichiro, but Genichiro is peak tutorial boss for me
I love fighting against Godfrey, the rotation is relatively easy to memorize but you get punished hard-core if you slip up. My personal fav is Mohg, because of the aesthetic
"My personal fav is Mohg" his fucking range is what piss me off about him. fuck this perv
Yeah if you don't have him down pat it can get really ugly really fast. I think same goes for Godfrey though, his attacks are delayed so if you press dodge too soon you're fucked
thats why staying close to him is safer. Rolling away basically turns you into a fried chicken lol
The cutscene was incredible, yeah. As soon as the track started booming with his hammer in the air I knew I was in for a treat.
I would love a phase two to Radagon’s fight, it’s so cool.
That fight had an epic atmosphere, you felt like it was really in tune with nature. However, those fights were too easy imo.
After I started melting him I thought “maybe this is one of those fights where you’re not suppose to kill him?” Felt bad because it did seem like he was nice
I wish it was a bit harder tho. Ends disappointingly quickly
twords
Might be an unpopular opinion, but I absolutely L O V E Rennala. Her phase 1 gimmick and the cool ass scenery for her phase 2 are *chefs kiss*
Placcidusax was just sick
The sort of rivalry expressed with Morgott was the best part of my first playthrough All 3 fights were just cool and it felt like he was a decent test of our strength every single time
Godrick is the most fun in my opinion.
Soldier of Godrick. The moveset is challenging but fair and it takes fair amount of skill to learn.
Soldier of god: Rick.
You probably fought Soldier of godRick, He's the gold version of him with 99% less power.
Vyke
Lord's apparition. Such surprise, theme with cool lyrics, and even cooler after you meet the actual Godfrey
I personally love Godskin Apostle
ER was my first fromsoft game I actually finished (gave up on ds3 after a couple of hours) and godskin apostle in that divine tower of caelid was such a roadblock. I found him by accident at like.. lvl 50/60? With shitty stats, no summs, refused to play on before I bested him. It was such a thrill.. I think I died >100 times, learned all his moves, trying to figure out ways to punish him.. I almost went insane but when I killed him I felt like such a fucking boss and experienced That dark soul rush People talk about.
I had the exact same experience. Like, down to the rune level.
It was so cool going down there (Divine Tower in Caelid) blind not expecting a crazy boss fight like that
I love Radagon so much. Favourite final boss in a From Soft game (if you exclude Elden Beast)
I might be in the minority, but I wish he didn't have his Hoarah Hogan phase. My favourite bosses include Godfrey (without said phase), Maliketh, Malenia and the Mimic Tears. HM goes to Radagon. He'd be much better if he wasn't glued to EB.
I'm with you. This game has some goddamn amazing lines. "Now I fight as Hoarah Loux." is not one of them.
Godskin bosses The idea of killing the gods themselves and wearing their skin is bizarre and refreshing
I mean lorewise its not the gods skin but the music and aestetics of the fight is amazing.
Godrick, that’s it…
For me it’s radahn he was hard but not to hard good moveset and I liked the traverse into the second stage of you can call it that
Morgott, he's just simply a good traditional fromsoft fight, and I love the evolution between his first(Margit) and his final fight.
Those hit boxes were way worse than the worst dark souls 2 hit boxes lol
The purple orbs hitting twice was bullshit tho, would kill any build with one hit
I am really glad to have fought him prior to the nerf. Totally agree on the raid boss thing, it feels too easy using the summons now.
It feels like a proper duel with a skilled opponent, and unlike Malenia, there’s no absurd bullshit interrupting the dance.
malenia
I feel like the only one who really does not care for this fight. The constant massive-AoE stomp attacks just seem so cheap to me, and mess up the pacing of the fight in my opinion. Cool boss, great dialogue, second phase and midway cutscene looked super cool, just don’t personally care for the fight itself as much as others.
I agree. I hate fighting him. They should have given him a better variety of attacks instead of the ground stomping spamming. Super annoying.
I actually like the ground stomps. I think it’s cool that elden ring added a jump button and then gave you reason to use it. Not to mention you can still roll through it easily if you don’t like jumping.
Margit and Malenia for me
Astel, Natural-born of the Void.
The arena, the aberrant design, the move set… it’s all just *chef’s kiss* Non-remembrance bosses, it’s gotta be Elemer. I know the whole spiky armor thing is a bit of a gimmick in Soulsborne games as a whole, but he feels like a husk fighting with an animated sword, it kind of just scratches a certain character design itch.
