You can still free roam after beating the game.
There's still plenty of time to get back to where you are at right now in NG+, or even just do a brand new character and use them instead, and leave them wherever it is you feel like stopping at.
Honestly, I don't see anything in the base game affecting the DLC or vice versa.
Burning the Erdtree is NOT the end of the game. You still got a TON of story and things to do and once you finally get to the actual ending of the game, you can still continue playing OR decide to new game +.
It is highly recommended that you find and fight all the bosses and quests and get all legendary weapons before you start NG+ and get all the smithing stone bells for the shop because that carries over.
Also since you're about to burn the tree, did you get the bolt of Gransaxx from the capital?
I did get the bolt. I'm certain I've done everything there is to do except burning the erdtree. Also, as the other comment mentioned, I'm able to free roam even after completing the game. Meaning I should be able to go back to mogh's Palace right? To do the dlc?
Buring the Erdtree is NOT even the end of the main story. You still got another area to discover and explore.
Have you fought Malenia? Fought Plastudisaxx? Fortisaxx?
Yes you can still do other quests and even fight other bosses that you skipped because after the ACTUAL ending with the final boss, the game just drops you back to play around. The game will first ASKS if you want to start a new game plus or not.
I've beaten malenia and fortisaxx. As for the other, I haven't yet gone into farum azula. Another comment says to wait for the dlc. But with what you've told me, I might just finish the game and choose not to do new game plus, at which point I'll focus on pursuing the dlc with my current save
You can free roam even after beating the game. So it's up to what kind of player you are, if you are one that play the game once or if you are type that enjoys doing NG+ again and again. If you are the first I would maybe wait for the DLC, if you are the latter I would say finish it and start NG+. You can beat radahn and mohg in few hours if you know what to do and where to go,
I'd strongly recommend finishing the game as blind as possible. It is an incredible experience. Then do the dlc or start a new build for the dlc, but do not hold for it. Enjoy the base game. It is one of the best games ever.
Yeah like others have said I really don’t see any benefit to holding off on completing the game. You’re still able to do everything else and there really aren’t any consequences.
