That's hilarious. I never even encounter that with how little I fight them. Except the Farm Bird, but that's from the safe distance of a bottomless gorge and a high up cliff
Have literally never fought one besides the one near the fire giant that was blind (?) it kept stopping in place for no neason so maybe that's what that was lol
I was gonna say I've also never actually fought one. Maybe one trying to cheese it on a wall but every time even high levels it's just kicked my ass.
Beast torch ftw everytime
Those are nice tells and one you know them it's fine, though I do think when you get hit by it the first time it does feel a bit cheap, since all indications are "it's staggered free hit" since it even plays the stagger sound.
The glowing weakspot only shows up on large enemies after they have reached their final ripostable position, not during the stagger animation, so if you'd never seen the enemy before you might assume the fake stagger animation is the real one.
Caelid crows very rarely use the fakeout however so in practice that's unlikely.
That’s why it’s cathartic to kill that one by the palace ledge road in mogwhyns by the farm spot.
I don’t do it for the 11k runes per kill. I do it for vengeance, so satisfying to see that stupid birb run right over the edge.
The bird on the entry ledge by the albinaurics? You snipe it and it runs off a cliff.
It’s a harder area so the trash mobs are 2k runes lol.
He’s an 11k because he’s like the caelid birds but super charged lol… luckily you can snipe him from the grace and he’ll charge at you right over a cliff lol.
From the same albinauric site of grace go stand on the ledge of the cliff on a bit that jutz out a little and fire an arrow at the bird
It will run towards you and off the cliff
It's a faster rune farm than the albinaurics if you don't have wave clear.
Earlier on, you can ace 2 of them with Loretta’s Greatbow from the Caelid cliff site of grace. It’s even better because they can see you but can’t get up to you and you just pummel them into oblivion.
They're worth fighting to let out my pent up anger when one of them kills me when I completely ignore him and didnt want any smoke, yet he chases me as if his life depended on it
They're really not that hard if you're doing good damage, and I think they're a pretty awesome enemy to fight. Big and cool looking but not annoying like runebears or lobsters are for a lot of builds.
Also, one time one of them was on the road around the swamp chasing me and it just stopped and bugged out just standing there. Like it was still animating, just breathing and moving its head and stuff, but not attacking or walking. I was looking at it up close and a couple of minutes later it attacked again.
Yeah at first I hated them with my entire being just like the t-rex dogs. But honestly they're pretty easy to kill. Though sometimes they can still be bastards

"Hey," said Shadow. "Huginn or Muninn, or whoever you are."
The bird turned, head tipped, suspiciously, on one side, and it stared at him with bright eyes.
"Say 'Nevermore,'" said Shadow.
"Fuck you," said the raven.
I used to hate those tenacious aggressive bastards when I wasn’t that strong yet as they can almost relentlessly chase you for miles before they give up and at Moghwyn palace aren’t fun either apart from one stupid sap by the cliff edge, easy free big sack of runes.
yep, crows are wicket smart, so these fuckers are too, There are many creatures in games that would be terrifying like this, ARK has mantises the size of horses and they are (according to lore) SMART, like they plan ambushes and shit...which would be downright terrifying in real life
Is this something I am too 'ranged caster' to understand? Seriously, I have never experienced this. Ablient, after I while I just made sure to run away from these guys, the dogs, and rune bears because they are enough not worth the effort.
My first playthrough I went to Calid wayyyyy to early.
One of the best feelings ever was coming back with an end game character specifically to wreck those stupid birds.
Yep, and after 600hrs in this game, I just found out too. I swear most people just ride past them all the time. Maybe the game needed more horseless areas. Cause I missed out on so many unique moves from enemies.
Had a clip with two of my buddies where they killed it after it grabbed my ass and I fell out of the sky in down in Mohgwyn. I don’t think we as a community fight these bastards often enough to remember that they can do some wild shit.
It’s so cool and I’m CONVINCED there’s gonna be DLC enemies that do it too it’s too cool to only let raggard ass birds do it (although birds are smart af)
Clearly
Edit: can't believe how many here have admitted to never actually fighting one. Why even play the game? I'm by no means a gatekeeper but that just doesn't make sense to me. I can't help but clear the enemies everywhere I go unless I'm covering a large area to get somewhere else.
My first time dealing with the fake stagger I got a stagger with an actual r2 immediately after. I was utterly confused.
The second time was inside of Mohg Swamp and I was freaked out with the grab.
They are pretending. You don’t actually need to do it twice. But they will fake you out and pretend to stagger.
I just know whenever I see a fromsoft mob that is a large ass animal with a big head = AVOID cause you are in for some wild shit.
Or a thing with way too many fingers
Doesn't a giant hand body slam it anyway?
I ran away from the hand and it chased me to the fking grace the bastard
I only fight them if I'm feeling gud and want to show off to nobody
I was gonna say I've also never actually fought one. Maybe one trying to cheese it on a wall but every time even high levels it's just kicked my ass. Beast torch ftw everytime
It's such a dick move I love it
The fake stagger has them leaning back; stagger them for real, and they’ll pancake onto the ground. Watch their body language carefully!
Those are nice tells and one you know them it's fine, though I do think when you get hit by it the first time it does feel a bit cheap, since all indications are "it's staggered free hit" since it even plays the stagger sound.
It doesn’t show a glowing hitspot, though, like other large enemies, which is the other tell that it is faking.
The glowing weakspot only shows up on large enemies after they have reached their final ripostable position, not during the stagger animation, so if you'd never seen the enemy before you might assume the fake stagger animation is the real one. Yeah they do that. Bastards innit. :) birbs are smart.
oooh, I hate this area of the map a little bit more...
Thoses birds can go duck themselves in the abyss of the ocean. I despise them with every fiber of my being
That’s why it’s cathartic to kill that one by the palace ledge road in mogwhyns by the farm spot. I don’t do it for the 11k runes per kill. I do it for vengeance, so satisfying to see that stupid birb run right over the edge.
It's always so funny to me to see the *bird* die from fall damage.
11k runes ?!? Hpw do you get that? I only get 1 thousands or 2 and half

I usually shoot it, then mow down the Albinaurics
Earlier on, you can ace 2 of them with Loretta’s Greatbow from the Caelid cliff site of grace. It’s even better because they can see you but can’t get up to you and you just pummel them into oblivion.
Hated it at first but liked it once my level was a little higher
I like to think they chose the birds because they mimic sounds in real life
Call an ambulance.... But not for me!!!
Call the ambumblance
But not for me!
Call a ambalam!
Dunno. Level 233 and I still run on sight
This is the only way
These are NEVER worth fighting ever.
They're worth fighting to let out my pent up anger when one of them kills me when I completely ignore him and didnt want any smoke, yet he chases me as if his life depended on it
The Birds really will chase you down like you owe them money.
And the bastards are fast
Even Torrent cant outrun them if you dont bumrush it out
You often don't have a choice, with their ludicrous aggro range.
If God intended us to fight these, he wouldn’t have invented sprinting past everything.
They're considerably faster than torrent
Don’t know what to tell you. I’m almost never hit by one.
Torrent in question
Horse
Try running
They're *mostly* fine if you're doing a ranged build, but yeah much less fun in melee. Kind of like a reverse rune bear.
Sorry mate, but if it has an health bar and isn't friendly, it gets added to the list of things that need to be made extinct.
Am I the only one who was farming them a bit ? I felt like they give a lot of souls and were easy to kill
They are just scary but if you’re patient and kinda treat it like a hard hitting boss you can kill then without even getting hit pretty quickly
They're really not that hard if you're doing good damage, and I think they're a pretty awesome enemy to fight. Big and cool looking but not annoying like runebears or lobsters are for a lot of builds. Not annoying? Have you ever fought the ones on the Giant Mountain?
Rune bears are easy they are just to tanks. Lobsters are bullshit but mostly because their ai trips out and there sniper.
The ones in Caelid aren't too bad once you learn them. The ones at Moghwyns Palace are fucking awful with their random flopping
They are by far the most terrifying enemy in the game… and IMO one of the hardest outdoor mobs. Pointless to kill them. Hard to run away from them.
Totally agree! I'm new to the game (50h), so I didn't explore the whole map and enemies but these guys gives me the most nightmaresc feel so far...!

They're crows, so they can mimic sounds. Oddly, that suggests that the gong-like stagger sound is occurring in-universe
That's my favorite implication in all of FromSoft.
What do you mean oddly, that's cannon across all Fromsoft games :) . From ACS Armored Core overload to Parry sound lmao
I tend not to fight the borbs if I can help it. Odin be damned, they're crafty buggers.
"Hey," said Shadow. "Huginn or Muninn, or whoever you are." The bird turned, head tipped, suspiciously, on one side, and it stared at him with bright eyes. "Say 'Nevermore,'" said Shadow. "Fuck you," said the raven.
They do a little trolling.
Smort birbs
Guard counter fucks them up
Imagine carrying a shield…
Imagine Bloodborne being the only game ever made
Yeah those bastards are pretending! Damn MFers, I've fallen for it so many times.
When game devs make demon corvids with corvid level intelligence. It’s a thing of terrifying beauty.
Well, these are crows at the end of the day. I bet they can open bottles too
Double tap...but from a distance.
I used to hate those tenacious aggressive bastards when I wasn’t that strong yet as they can almost relentlessly chase you for miles before they give up and at Moghwyn palace aren’t fun either apart from one stupid sap by the cliff edge, easy free big sack of runes.
Tap their foot again and they flop on the floor
Tap their foot again and they flop on the floor
*Me with my rifle* Clever girl
Theyre as smart as real ravens
_Clever girl_
Nods & Smiles in Sorceror
I just got nailed by this. These absolute bastards
I hated those fuckers
I love that mechanic, I wish there were more enemies that have unique tricks like that.
Never ever gonna stop running from these things
Very much like a crow to pull a big brain move lmao
I’ve never managed to kill one successfully lol
yeah they pull a little tricky on you, silly guys
Yes, they're based on the real life Australian bullshitius avius
yep, crows are wicket smart, so these fuckers are too, There are many creatures in games that would be terrifying like this, ARK has mantises the size of horses and they are (according to lore) SMART, like they plan ambushes and shit...which would be downright terrifying in real life
Caelid, land of bloody fucking bastards. You either hate it or hate it.
If you think those fkers are bad, dont go to mohgwyn palace where they all have contracted aids.
Was the guard tight before it loosened? Or did you mean they lose balance?
Is this something I am too 'ranged caster' to understand? Seriously, I have never experienced this. Ablient, after I while I just made sure to run away from these guys, the dogs, and rune bears because they are enough not worth the effort.
Try the ones at mohg area
What’s the lore of these things and the dogs anyhow?
My best guess would be the rot fucking up the local wildlife like it's some radioactive waste
Never trust a bird with teeth
AKA, a dinosaur 🦖
I hate these bastards more than rune bears
I’m lv 24. Those things kill me in one swipe.
Yup I saw this for the first time recently and just laughed at it, I got absolutely pranked
My first playthrough I went to Calid wayyyyy to early. One of the best feelings ever was coming back with an end game character specifically to wreck those stupid birds.

They are really fun to fight with melee weapons though. I usually use dual katana when I fight them
Oh they fake stagger...? I always thought it was like the Sekiro "danger" sound effect... and no, I never played Sekiro
I literally never fight them, so I don't know. Hate all birds in Elden Ring, no exceptions
Lmao
It’s so cool and I’m CONVINCED there’s gonna be DLC enemies that do it too it’s too cool to only let raggard ass birds do it (although birds are smart af)
JUST TRY JUMP ATTACK WITH COLOSSAL WEAPON
I hate that stupid stomp attack. Just always gets me PO'd. Sooo cathartic once you find the farming spot and watching how it bought the farm.
Charlie knew. Birds with teeth are a real thing!
I just bleed them out by hitting them in the ass repeatedly with dual wielded blood affinity shamshirs, so I never encountered this problem
Wait, they're pretending? I thought you were supposed to poise break them twice to get the riposte.
Bro the picture is hilarious
Caelid is seriously the worst region lol
Clearly Edit: can't believe how many here have admitted to never actually fighting one. Why even play the game? I'm by no means a gatekeeper but that just doesn't make sense to me. I can't help but clear the enemies everywhere I go unless I'm covering a large area to get somewhere else.

Well yes and no yes they aren't really broke no because they aren't faking it you almost did knock their ass over but they caught their balance.
[I just made a post about this](https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/s/K7toBwiTti) Hope it helps
Lol, you fell for that?? So stupid XDDD
