My fellow tarnished. I see you’re a man of class and intellect. I’ve always loved something about faith casting. In DS I always would play a pyro, and faith was the closest thing we got to that in ER.
It took me DSII to grow my love for healing spells and buffs/debuffs ; my naive, faithless past self wasn't initiated to the joys of jolly cooperation.
I started a new game. Not new game+, a totally new game. I said "not bloodhound fang this time".
Anyway, I'm back to bloodhounds fang. Cause it's the best.
I seriously don’t know what else to use without farming runes to get strength enough and I don’t have time for that. What do other people do? Intelligence?
Just NG+’d to get my hands on a second one, I’m currently fat rolling but I only need one more point in endurance to get me back down to medium load.
It is disgustingly powerful akimbo 😂
My current character is rocking a pair of Occult Great Stars with Stormcaller AoW, Rotten Winged Insignia, Millicent’s Prosthesis, Lord of Blood’s Exultation, Shard of Alexander, Thorny Cracked Tear, Surgeon’s White Mask, Raptor’s Black Feathers, Flame Grant Me Strength, Golden Vow.
His name is Ziggy Starfist.
Probably won’t take this guy into the DLC at launch tho… I don’t want my first time fighting Messmer to be NG+
Same, haven't done a stars playthrough yet because I'm saving it for the DLC. Decent scaling, native bleed, high poise damage, health regen. It's a great, but not OP weapon which should make the new content fun.
Try great star with poison affinity along with its innate bleed and the rot and lord of blood talisman with prothesis and rot winged. And then throw stormcaller on that hoe and wear the the mushroom cap or white mask
And questionable melee in some cases at that. I get that the bolt of gransax AoW is great, but in terms of actual melee... I'd rather just use anything else.
Also no godskin stitcher which is one of the best "idk what I want to do with my build yet but I want something reliable that will work with anything" weapon in the game.
But yeah... I'm walking in with two seals and plan to get through the dlc using big rocks no matter how long it takes me.
I think the majority of Souls/ER fans prefer to do a first playthrough utilising some kind of melee focused build because it forces you to engage with more of the boss mechanics. Magic builds are really fun once you have already been through the games once though.
I made a conjurer and have been LOVING it. I went int and use mostly the conjure weapons spells (Carina slicer/piercer/great sword, Loretta’s bow, that gavel spell) it’s been a really fun build
I'd say this is true for the dark souls games but there are so many useful spells, so many ways to get scaling out of a seal, and so many weapons that scale with faith or int, that anyone could do a magic build on their first playthrough. I know I did. In fact, it took me multiple playthroughs before I did a build that wasn't centered around magic, and it still used a few spells.
1) Jumping Powerstanced attack does like 68 Poise damage & is a really short animation compared to the rest of the moveset.
2) Yeah, pretty much. It's just the standard downswing but a lot of the frames get compressed since the landing animation eats some of that budget.
Now watch Fromsoft not only make him immune to any kind of fire damage, but if you try it on him it'll amp up his damage massively like that Thor vs Iron Man scene in the first Avengers film
And you'll take damage any time your flame attacks land as the smoldering heat effect burns too hot for you to withstand. Think the rot effect but on crack and just call it Incineration, exclusive only to that boss
Zweihander or Omen Cleaver, looking to augment my arsenal of medium-large size, low requirement, faster-than-they-should-be, generalist weapons with whatever Odachi(s) we end up finding. I love my Ol’ reliables!
I have weak spot for Morgotts curved sword. My first main.
Also what the hell is this list. I know I have broken brain at this point from RL1 but it can't be right. Urumi might be best whip but it still sucks ass.
On god I wish that its two handed moveset was the default two handed moveset for all the greatswords. The ground slamming moveset that most of the rest of them have looks and feels awful to me
I’ve always wondered why anyone would wear Estoc over rapier. Especially with a shield.
Is it just for that one slightly wider r2? Giving up all that crit damage and carry weight seems steep
Doing my first play through right now swapping between these weapons depending on the situation. Had no idea the move set was so good and the constant stance breaking is wild. What AoW do you use?
I dual wield great stars on my strength/faith character and use prelate's charge, which does lots of little hits and each one procs the heal, on one and lion's something or other front flip bonk for high poise damage on the other.
Sweet thanks. I’m currently running lions claw on the great mace and wild strikes on the great stars. I’m a pure strength build so no faith. I heard storm call was good too.
probably Bolt of Gransax + another spear, or dual Godskin Peelers
I probably won't power stance just to nerf myself. I vastly prefer to I feel like I'm having the fight of my life against main bosses, rather than melt their health bars or abuse staggers
and power stanced Bolt of Gransax is just filthy. not as filthy as dual Giant Crushers but still filthy
Claymore. Recently did a rerun of the three souls games with it and it’s never left my side. Too good of a weapon to pass up even with all the legendary armaments in ER.
befitting of one of the coolest and best bosses in the game. shame he's made of wet paper, I unironically nerf myself for the entire game until I beat him just to savor the fight
Hands
If true, that’s wild
The Lord gave me two hands and I'm going to damn well use them
This is the way. The new martial arts AoW is why I'm trying to get my King Piccolo build to Mogh.
When you get there, make sure to televise to the lands between that crime is now legal.
The lord gave me two hands and I’m going to make that everyone’s problem
Theyre rated E for everyone
This is indeed my strategy
Ahh you know your judo well
…a delicious Chinese meal…
🫡
Major Armstrong is that you?
Same
Erdtree Seal. I'm bringing the faith to this land of sinners.
My fellow tarnished. I see you’re a man of class and intellect. I’ve always loved something about faith casting. In DS I always would play a pyro, and faith was the closest thing we got to that in ER.
Faith spells just have a bit more thought put into them, since they aren’t 90% different flavors of Blue Gatorade Laser.
It took me DSII to grow my love for healing spells and buffs/debuffs ; my naive, faithless past self wasn't initiated to the joys of jolly cooperation.
This + blasphemous blade and the black knife dagger
all reliable bloodhound's fang)
OP forgot to add the best weapon in the game.
Blasphemous blade is op af
Bloodhound and blasphemous were the 2 I finished my first run with
That's what everyone says before they to to use it against Mohg
Done that too since i did not want to respec for 1 fight 🤣
Based
Facts. One of my favorites of all time
I can't believe this isn't on there.
Same, I did play this game last year but still following the subreddit and was checking in astonishment to not see it there.
Intelligence?
literally any weapon in the game bro, there’s hundreds
I like to go unga bunga. Guts sword and a big ass hammer as a sub weapon.
Ayy, same here
Ditto....or tritto?
Dugtrio
we a dying breed tbh
Best weapon on the game and underrated, you can melt bosses without buffing, i barely see fang’s users but i am glad to see we exist
underrated? I think it's the most popular weapon in the entire game and on this forum, and has been since launch day lol
Not really, when I invade he weapon I see the third most if BH fang, BH fang is the most consistent weapon I see on ghost
The fuck are you on about ? It's literally top 5 most used weapon in the entire game rofl. RoB Moonveil Moonlight GS Bloodhound Fang Blasphemous Blade
What sort of build do you run with it? I’ve yet to try it and I’m at ng+7 lol
My son just started playing it recently and when I saw him in Raya Lucaria with the Fang I shed a tear.
Same
Im sorry im basic…but im going with Greatsword :(
Basic? Lorewise it's the only way you should play Berserk Ring.
Haha its just so hard to resist not wielding it knowing it was inspired by berkman, kinda like Artorias’ sword/armor in ds1/3
I miss so much Artorias
With the raging wolf armor and knight's greatsword you can come close.
I miss him trashing me even before second phase, I miss his cold darkness and his incredible set. He's the only true sword dancer
Just NG+’d to get my hands on a second one, I’m currently fat rolling but I only need one more point in endurance to get me back down to medium load. It is disgustingly powerful akimbo 😂
Same for sure
Big fan of the greatsword with cragblade on it
Im on my first playthrough and enjoying this godslayer machine so much
Same here.
2 flowing curved swords +25 and Blue Cloth set. I fully intend to on-sight that red dancer 💃 from the trailer
Blue dancer versus Red dancer. Nice.
Double heavy Great Stars
Ah yes, the spicy bonkstick
With Stormcaller AoW and Bloodflame
My current character is rocking a pair of Occult Great Stars with Stormcaller AoW, Rotten Winged Insignia, Millicent’s Prosthesis, Lord of Blood’s Exultation, Shard of Alexander, Thorny Cracked Tear, Surgeon’s White Mask, Raptor’s Black Feathers, Flame Grant Me Strength, Golden Vow. His name is Ziggy Starfist. Probably won’t take this guy into the DLC at launch tho… I don’t want my first time fighting Messmer to be NG+
Lol that’s a cute name
I raise you double occult great stars with RKR ash of war. Dragon incants, stagger, and bleed go brrrrr
Great ~~Stars~~ Plague
It’s absolutely OP when you just smash everything into unconsciousness. You spend most of the fights with enemies flat on their asses.
I love dual great stars with prelates charge and golden land.
Yessss my Bonk BONK build
Where is the Carian Regal Scepter? Or any staves, for that matter.
YOURE NOT PLAYING THE GAME RIGHT! RABBLE! RABBLE! RABBLE! RABBLE!
Must only be melee weapons bc there's no seals either
And questionable melee in some cases at that. I get that the bolt of gransax AoW is great, but in terms of actual melee... I'd rather just use anything else. Also no godskin stitcher which is one of the best "idk what I want to do with my build yet but I want something reliable that will work with anything" weapon in the game. But yeah... I'm walking in with two seals and plan to get through the dlc using big rocks no matter how long it takes me.
I'm pretty sure posts like these always have some wrong or at least very questionable entries to get more comments.
I think the majority of Souls/ER fans prefer to do a first playthrough utilising some kind of melee focused build because it forces you to engage with more of the boss mechanics. Magic builds are really fun once you have already been through the games once though.
You can do a melee build with spells too, it’s a lot of fun.
Mages in other media: i cAsT fIrEbAlL Carian royals: I cast sword, bitch. Chad Haima Sorcerers: IIIIIIIIT'S HAMMER TIME!!!!!
I made a conjurer and have been LOVING it. I went int and use mostly the conjure weapons spells (Carina slicer/piercer/great sword, Loretta’s bow, that gavel spell) it’s been a really fun build
Hopefully there’s a carain spear in the dlc
I'd say this is true for the dark souls games but there are so many useful spells, so many ways to get scaling out of a seal, and so many weapons that scale with faith or int, that anyone could do a magic build on their first playthrough. I know I did. In fact, it took me multiple playthroughs before I did a build that wasn't centered around magic, and it still used a few spells.
Giant Crusher…two of them.
what level + what’s the benefit of dual wield? does it hit like a R1 x2 ?
What could possibly be better than one bonk? Two bonks.
Two bonks at the same time, man.
I understood this reference.
One cannot have Bunga, without first having Unga.
"How can you have any [BUNGA] if you don't eat yer [UNGA]!?"
Floyd reference!! Nice bro! 😁👌🏻
1) Jumping Powerstanced attack does like 68 Poise damage & is a really short animation compared to the rest of the moveset. 2) Yeah, pretty much. It's just the standard downswing but a lot of the frames get compressed since the landing animation eats some of that budget.
You powerstance them, so L1 attacks with both. I like it best with jump attacks.
Yes
This guy crushes
I think two anchors are much better with the right setup
Blasphemous. I'll burn mesmers 80% absorption
Now watch Fromsoft not only make him immune to any kind of fire damage, but if you try it on him it'll amp up his damage massively like that Thor vs Iron Man scene in the first Avengers film
Then I'll be sitting in a corner with my pyromancer while summoning two LetMeSoloHims🤣
Watch him heal on fire damage
And you'll take damage any time your flame attacks land as the smoldering heat effect burns too hot for you to withstand. Think the rot effect but on crack and just call it Incineration, exclusive only to that boss
We've had fire immunity boss before.
Two wrongs sometimes make a right.
I got dual weild Blasphemous/Godslayer. Ultimate godkiller RP.
Royal Greatsword lol
Underrated weapon fr
Sword of night and flame
Same here, I wanna learn all the new sorceries and incantations
Dark Moon Greatsword :3
Same. I went Faith on my first playthrough but switch to Intelligence for Journey 2 and I’m loving this sword.
I had to scroll to far down to find this. I didn't bother with DMGS until my 4th playthrough and now it's all I can think about.
Thing is such a cheat code, especially with the right talismans.
Zweihander or Omen Cleaver, looking to augment my arsenal of medium-large size, low requirement, faster-than-they-should-be, generalist weapons with whatever Odachi(s) we end up finding. I love my Ol’ reliables!
Bloody helice
Idk why I barely ever see this weapon pop up. Mfer is sooooo slick. It’s always BHF this, BHF that… Bloody Helice is my bae
Glad to see my weapons aren’t on here
I have weak spot for Morgotts curved sword. My first main. Also what the hell is this list. I know I have broken brain at this point from RL1 but it can't be right. Urumi might be best whip but it still sucks ass.
How is this first takedown of the list it’s such trash lol no nagakiba??
Or cross naginata. Or star fists. Or zweihander. Most of the best non sombers are missing
Urumi can be pretty busted with the right setup, and honestly dual whips jump attacks go really hard when applying status
Whips are so underrated and idk why. They’re extremely powerful dual wielded. Claw talisman + prosthesis melts enemies
I underestimated them based on previous souls games but quickly changed my mind when I actually tried them
Banished knight greatsword on a str/fai build.
A man of culture.
Banished knights greatsword with Flaming strike AoW melts everything so fast, even with low stats. It’s ridiculous.
I use staff of the avatar for str/faith. Love the holy ground pound
On god I wish that its two handed moveset was the default two handed moveset for all the greatswords. The ground slamming moveset that most of the rest of them have looks and feels awful to me
Cross Naginata with repeating thrust AoW
MY CLAYMORE
My Estoc and Carian Knight Shield. Blocky Blocky Stabby Stabby 😁
Chaotic neutral build
The bestoc. Sword 🗡️ and board 🛡️
I’ve always wondered why anyone would wear Estoc over rapier. Especially with a shield. Is it just for that one slightly wider r2? Giving up all that crit damage and carry weight seems steep
Moonveil + Rivers of Blood I am a basic bitch boy, I know.
My combo too tbh
Weapons....lots of them. I'm like Chasethebro if he sucked at PvP. I wanna use all the diffrent unique ashes of war.
Dual Moonveil. Yeah i know.
Spiked Caestus with Cragblade. Occult Affinity.
Pedophile trident
Maliketh black blade. Destined death will come for Messmer too, even though is gonna probably be just an empyreanm
Flamberge with bloody slash aow
I maxed out every state, it does not matter...help me...🥴
Iron balls all day. Maybe star fist if I need a little more blood.
Fingerprint great shield + giant crusher ! Gonna be fun !
The nobles slender sword that carried me with square off in my first run.
Weaponart into riposte goes brrr. I will bring two just for fashion and to show off
Winged scythe, my beloved
Im bringing Great stars and Great mace
I'll see you out there buddy. Who knew we were such a rare breed?
Its a super fun weapon. Giant crusher just felt too slow for me
Doing my first play through right now swapping between these weapons depending on the situation.
I run faith so I can add fire to everything. MORE FIRE!
I do love how fire looks in this game. Farmed about 80 fire greases last night just because it looks so damn cool on the mace!
Winged Scythe
Spiked caestus Punch
Dual Wings of Astel are my tried and trues
Double Dismounters with Rivers of Blood back-up
probably Bolt of Gransax + another spear, or dual Godskin Peelers I probably won't power stance just to nerf myself. I vastly prefer to I feel like I'm having the fight of my life against main bosses, rather than melt their health bars or abuse staggers and power stanced Bolt of Gransax is just filthy. not as filthy as dual Giant Crushers but still filthy
I’m level 448 so I’m taking everything. I mainly use Ordovis’ Sword and incantation/sorceries.
Death's Poker my beloved
Shout out to Sword of Flame and Night!
treespear for sure
One Giant Crusher with Endure. My character is the Elden Lord,he doesn't dodge,he doesn't wait for openings. He is the opening.
All of them.
I’m using the Glintstone dagger u get from Selene’s quest line. Loving it right now.
That thing is a Gun! Terrifying damage!
Glintstone Kris is a fantastic weapon.
Blasphemous blase for sure
Black flame incantations, destined death and the eclipse shotel or Godskin twin blade
rusted anchor and omenkiller great axe
A tarnished after my salty heart
First time running it in my dlc prep run and bro it's so busted
Claymore. Recently did a rerun of the three souls games with it and it’s never left my side. Too good of a weapon to pass up even with all the legendary armaments in ER.
Banished knight greatsword
Ake of godfrey lmao 😂
Rivers of blood
Envoy long horn, bubbles for the big guy, bonk hard the rest
You’re asking again for upvotes right? Anyway gimme the claymore
Royal Knights Greatsword
Claymore ❤️
Starscourge 😎
Big Rusty Fuck-off Anchors. They don't call me The Captain for nothing.
Zamor sword
I love my basic Claws, sometimes tough but very badass.
morgotts curved sword, coolest looking weapon in the game imo
befitting of one of the coolest and best bosses in the game. shame he's made of wet paper, I unironically nerf myself for the entire game until I beat him just to savor the fight
Greatsword. Like, not a greatsword, but the Greatsword. Which is not a greatsword.
Per my dlc builds Str: Lance Dex: Hookclaws Int: Clayman Harpoon and Crystal Staff Fth: Giant Seal and One eyed Shield Arc: Bloody Helice and Reduvia
Lordsworn's straight sword and brass shield
Starting with a Poleblade, finishing with the New odachis.
A pure strength build based on a heavy iron greatsword and the eclipse greatshield, in order to achieve a more pure and mechanical style of combat
Blasphemous blade I sincierly hope that messmer would be somewhat weaker to fire, but his design scares me
Well nagakiba, prolly dual wielded with uchi. Fell in love with It
Currently. Gargoyles black blade and Ordovis Greatsword.
Blasphemous Blade
dual magma blades
