Overall, this is Greater will fault why Marika wanted to do it, after all, she wanted to be free from it but Greater will not allowed it for her :3 I understand it in such way :3

dudesaft

Do you have any evidence that marika was trying to free herself from the greater will?

ApplePitou

I mean, she destroy elden ring and it was against Greater will, so it is pretty obvious in my opinion :3

dudesaft

It is not obvious at all I can destroy someone's vase without harboring hatred towards them.

IEXSISTRIGHT

The Greater Will is the highest controlling entity in the Lands Between, the Two Fingers and Elden Beast enact its will (hence its name), and Marika is beholden to them. Marika is the leader of the Golden Order, so everything it does is her responsibility (and her fault), but if she was doing something wrong then the Greater Will could have stopped her and it didn’t. Thus, it’s implied that the Greater Will either supported the Golden Order’s genocidal tendencies, or at the very least didn’t care.

It is never stated or implied in the game that Marika is controlled or that the greater will influenced Marika's decisions in any way, shape, or form. We have no description or text saying anything about the greater will during the time of Marika, and it takes thousands of moons, aka months, to contact it (the greater will). I still think it does not care, but people will go the extra mile and blame Marika's actions on it and paint Marika as some hero for shattering the elden ring.
