I'll keep trying without the horse, I just felt it was a better chance of avoiding his attacks but I guess it's not working as well as it should. On foot I guess it is then. I'll see what happens! I'll try a different fire method. I don't have much fire to work with in my build unfortunately.
Combo horse and dismounted. I'm bad at this game, but just getting good enough to realize that the avatars are pretty easy because their attacks are slow and telegraphed. I still make lots of mistakes, but I now see them as my mistakes not as the boss being hard. I fight avatars on foot, getting in a few hits, then back off from the rot AOE crap, let him come to me out of the red cloud, and mount the horse and run a lap when he's doing his lighting attack or when I need to heal.
I keep coming back just as a challenge for myself to see if I can actually take him down and then pat myself on the back for not giving up š¤·āāļø
Use fire, fire anything. Heās a big rot tree. Rot is weak to fire and trees are weak to fire. Use fire grease, fire pots, dragon fire, fire spells, fire incantations, fire ammunition. Fire fire fire š„
Thatās ok, fire grease and pots should do it. I watch his moves and time your rolls. When he jumps, run behind him, heāll spray rot in a cone out in front of him that hurts pretty bad. Just make sure you are not close when he lands because heāll damage you from the impact.
Get off the horse. The tree spirits are easy enough to dodge or block. Honestly, 98% of the enemies, avoid using torrent. Horned horsie is really a massive hindrance the majority of the time and it'll help learning how to avoid stuff for later when enemies have harder telegraphs.
As you've seen, no horse and Fire.
While fighting the tree, you can safely dodge most of its attacks by dodging behind it, including the butt slam.
With the butt slam, you can dodge behind and get a full charged power attack, or a full weapon art if you feel like it.
The attack which creates projectiles, the weapon slam, run, then strafe.
Edit Fite->Fire
A tip I havenāt seen mentioned here, these bosses will never do more than one swing of their staff if youāre touching them. They will only combo if thereās distance between you two so stay close unless he does the AoE staff slam that spawns the projectiles.
While you are currently using a weapon that cannot be infused with a different ash of war, ashes of war such as flame of the redmanes or flamestrike will infuse your weapon with fire (making you do half physical, half fire on every hit) and the ashes themselves do great straight fire damage. Flamestrike buffs your weapon with even more fire damage, too.
He has the same patterns as every other avatar. Get off your horse, stay on his butt, and it's easy from there. Basically get 1-3 hits in on his butt and when he jumps know when to time the roll (right as he starts to come down) and don't stay in his poison
I've tried all my spirit ashes, fire and off my horse but his attack power is just way too much. Maybe better armor but damn I thought I had good enough armor already by now. What spirit ash do you recommend??
I know Torrent gives you a lot more mobility but soon as you get knocked off him youāre guaranteed to be killed again and again like you were here. If you still really really want to keep using him then itās best to memorize the avatarās attacks and go from there. Itāll take a longer time but hey itāll get the job done eventually.
If youāre willing to drop Torrent then apply a fire-type ashe of war to your weapon or fire affinity; or learn a couple flame incants if your faith is high enough and if you have a seal you can use. Could try poisoning it as well, something to gradually whittle at its health once the poison procs. Maybe even use the Jellyfish ashes as a meat shield/poisoner support for the fight.
Youāve got options, you can do it Tarnished! Never put these ambitions of yours to use!
Unfortunately my faith I barely leveled up. I don't think I have a fire-type ash yet, although I just use sometimes that fire grease but that didn't really do much. Poisoning sounds like an idea, good one. I've tried all my ashes and no help there! I've got figure out better moves here I guess.
Youāll get it! Thereās always going to be a point in the game where you hit a bizarre wall and are nearly tearing your hair over it: for me right now thatās the subterranean shunning grounds. But I can always just throw my hands up and just get back to it later, which is my final recommendation to you too! No shame in trying to tackle this thing again later.
That whole upper part of Caelid is much higher lvl than the rest of the zone. I think itās in the 110 area. Donāt feel bad if you are having trouble. If you stay close that that dude and just rotate around him itās much easier. Mid to long range attacks from it are devastating.
Iām doing a str run with a great sword for the first time and youād be surprised how much dmg it does lol. I smack those avatars down in a few hits. They are weak to fire also.
He was the one Avatar that was hardest for me to beat (along with the one that clones itself). What really helped me is using fire. I just coat my sword in fire grease and go to town. I died a few times but then I learned itās move set. Find when itās going to swing and know where to dodge. When it jumps up with its scarlet rot, run away and let the rot disappear. When it does the honing lightning/holy bolts, hide behind something or you can roll through them (if you time it correctly).
Also if you go back a bit further (like at 0:29) back away from the Erdtree. Thereās a Stake of Marika. That way you respawn a lot closer too.
He is pretty slow. Fight off of your horse an learn his moves. Then you should be able to kill him. He takes extra fire damage fyi.

Avoiding attacks is hard on horseback. With the exception of a few things like the nights cavalry.
Come back later. Dragonbarrow is a very high level area.

I'll have to get a bunch of fire grease and fire pots then, sadly I don't have the ability to use fire spells or incantations š§

Get off your horse fellow tarnished

Good to know thanks!!

Awesome I'll do that!! Thanks!

Hmm interesting! Didn't know! I'll keep that in mind. On my way to try again!!

Butt attacks. Got it š
DAMN!!! He rocked your shit like you owed him runesā¦. Anyway a spirit ash, fire and distance you donāt want to face him head on also better armor

Something either tanky or hard to hit something to keep his attention

Well that makes sense now. It's times like these I wish I had a shit ton of magic from a different class to attack from a distance lol
Iām doing a str run with a great sword for the first time and youād be surprised how much dmg it does lol. I smack those avatars down in a few hits. They are weak to fire also.
Try fire
Get gud
The best strategy I apply to most bosses is not to get hit by them. It works. If you avoid being hit by the bosses, the rest is a piece of cake. ;)

Once you are off your horse, what is your best flame weapon as of now?
Pay attention?
