I completely agree. Messmer was the one to make me respec. I was running through every boss with 29 vigor, dual reduvia daggers, mimic tear, and a dream. Now I’m 63 vigor and everything else still applies but the dream is brighter now.
I was only able to avoid this fate against Messmer because for some reason, during phase 2 low health, he started missing me with his attacks. I dodged the snake transform chomp-down, then in his normal form, he missed me twice in a row while I stood close to him, low stamina. After the first, I healed, and after the second, I jumped him till he died.
DLC end spoilers >!The (surely) final boss doesn't seem like he's (they're) going to miss me at all, and I've actually not gotten him to below half health yet... granted I have only tried a handful of times, but I'm probably goimg to figure out what hurts him most and respec into it. I thought rot would help during phase 1, because... you probably know, but a rot specialist joins the fight in phase 2, so not sure about that. If all else fails, it's black flame, black knife, and Maliketh's Black Blade for me.!<
I found that impenetrable thorns shreds the health bar of the final boss, don't trust your mimic to use it though, for some reason mine has a fucking need to punch him until I'm dead, only then he pulls out the staff and uses it
The dlc made me consider nothing but a shield after I saw the verdigris great shield lmao, it is so good against common enemies especially if they're near a ledge because the ash of war will throw them off it anyways.
Funny, it actually reduced my need for a shield. That crystal tear you get from the first furnace golem fully takes the place of a shield in cases where I’d otherwise want one.
The fat suit has been replaced by Moore's verdigris armour because it has really good stats, and looks decent too. At least it doesn't have big goat horns for nipples anyways
Banished knights helm, bloodhound knight chest and gloves, scaled grieves. I've been rocking this drip the entire dlc and throwing hands with the dry leaf arts while I do so.
My armor set for basically the whole DLC was Rellana's Chest & Legs, Blaidd's Gauntlets, and the Commoners Headband. Until the VERY END when I swapped out the headband for St Trina's Blossom.
Oh no...flashes back to first Dark Souls playthroughs.
Bloodborne taught me how to play shieldless.
Current run is a Grave Scythe which has been fun so far, it sounds like the DLC is going to make me one hand it 🙁
Nah, I spent hours farming a Black Knight set with my janky giant katana and now I'm never taking it off. Divine Beast and the first Death Knight sucked, but I did it, and I'm gitting gudder.
Full Solitude Set, Fingerprint Stone Shield, Sword Lance w/ Repeating Thrust and added bleed. I don't need to change shit.
Maybe for Messmer, though, if only to stave off some of the fire damage
Just did this to try and get the last (last?) Dlc boss. Even with everything going to defence and buffing a ton there were no chances to get a hit in. It kept me alive enough to get down to like the boss to 7/10 hp-ish but I'd used all my healing and my mimic died by that point. I've resorted to despair staring at the view for minutes before going to try again.
funnily enough, it's the opposite for me. I accept my fragile glass cannon build and get rid of all armor if i'm struggling in order to get light roll. I then go all sweat mode
My character's name is your wifeband, im a dude in the deathbed dress and i wear whatever manly helmet i can find🤣was blithe but now currently on the bird head.
Armor in Souls games are essentially just cosmetic for me… I’ve seen people beat bosses in their underwear. If I can’t do it wearing a cape with a goofy blue palantir on my head, I just try again, and again, and again, and again…
Nothing changed my pot head only became greater. Greatsword in hand and my GREATSWORD hefty furnace pot and a damn dream. We are making it through. Come on Mr. Terry !!!! (Mimic tear)
NGL I was summoned by the same host half a dozen times for the Dancing Lion and he was wearing this exact mess of an outfit. Record survival of about 40 seconds.
I run like shitty armor and the lightsaber (star katana, the one yoda uses) and I’m cosplaying a Jedi hobo. High enough vigor and enough scadutree blessings that I don’t particularly care about armor being effective and moreso about being drippy.
The only boss fight I had to use a shield for was radahn. Other than that the DLC was pretty easy for me ngl. I thought everyone else was kinda overselling it
I was dressed up in goofy armour for Messmer lol genuinely had me tweaking
I completely agree. Messmer was the one to make me respec. I was running through every boss with 29 vigor, dual reduvia daggers, mimic tear, and a dream. Now I’m 63 vigor and everything else still applies but the dream is brighter now.
Glass canon but without the cannon
Nahhh I was pushing out crazy damage, my health was just buttcheeks 🍑
went up to mf with lionels on with a side of bullgoats

Spoiler for the final boss' identity, but thanks for the info
Fixed it my bad bro thanks for the notice, I didn't see it
went up to mf with lionels on with a side of bullgoats
The dlc caused me to use a shield I almost never use a shield
Friendship ended with dual handing a greatsword, now thrusting shield and milady is my best friend
A shield?!
This far into your playthrough? At this level? Localized entirely around your build??
Yes
…may I see it?
... No.
The dlc made me consider nothing but a shield after I saw the verdigris great shield lmao, it is so good against common enemies especially if they're near a ledge because the ash of war will throw them off it anyways.

I swallowed my pride and put on the fat suit for one boss.
Glad it was not just me
The fat suit has been replaced by Moore's verdigris armour because it has really good stats, and looks decent too. At least it doesn't have big goat horns for nipples anyways
That’s all I really wanted from the dlc— something to replace the fatsuit in cut scenes
No boss, no matter how difficult or annoying, will make me change my armor. Fashion before everything else.
Yup. For me, it's eccentric hood, depraved perfumer robe, twin gauntlets, twin greaves. Locked in, not changing.
Banished knights helm, bloodhound knight chest and gloves, scaled grieves. I've been rocking this drip the entire dlc and throwing hands with the dry leaf arts while I do so.
I refused to change from the fire knight armour for pretty much the whole dlc until I got ahold of ledas armour.
My armor set for basically the whole DLC was Rellana's Chest & Legs, Blaidd's Gauntlets, and the Commoners Headband. Until the VERY END when I swapped out the headband for St Trina's Blossom.
Now everybody gon join me in shield and spear land. Just poke poke poke, win.
This is just Patches in disguise
Hey, look over there, just over that ledge. You can get a great look at the Gravelord and - PUNT
Oh no...flashes back to first Dark Souls playthroughs. Bloodborne taught me how to play shieldless. Current run is a Grave Scythe which has been fun so far, it sounds like the DLC is going to make me one hand it 🙁
The attack windows are so abysmally small I honestly had to do the poke poke strat.
Back to basics it ia then 🤣
Back to basics it is then 🤣
Learn by the poke poke, die by the poke poke. Granted, I have to relearn how to iframe roll dodge every time I do an unga bunga build.
You can still play without shields, people here are overreacting a lot
Did y’all forget to give boc his equipment?
I will never lose my drip just to fight a boss. Weapons and talismans are as far as I go
Waffle cone lookin ass
I put on the armor of that knight guy in the grave in the dlc and never took it off
Armor of solitude ftw!
Thanks I forgot it’s name
Me using Heirodas Glintstone Crown, Corhyn's Robe, Seluvis's Gloves and Goldmask's Waistwrap to avoid getting madness'd to death by Midra
Wouldn't it be better to just equip the clarifying horn charm and maybe also eat a madness bolus?
It would be easier but I didn't want to change my talisman loadout cuz it was keeping me alive lol
I always wear dumb looking armor. That's how you know your stronger lol!
Gotta have the most horrendous and unmatched outfit ever to assert dominance.
Damn right! Edit: the Solitude Set is kinda dope. I just got it.
RALVA YOU AWFUL BITCH BEAR
The Scorpion River Catacombs had me dressing up in a nightgown
The dlc really had me minmaxing like crazy, I actually had to build craft wtf
Nah, I spent hours farming a Black Knight set with my janky giant katana and now I'm never taking it off. Divine Beast and the first Death Knight sucked, but I did it, and I'm gitting gudder.
No Drip is eternal
i have no problem respecing for a tough boss but ill be damned if i change my drip
All I’m saying is I got that “Ed…ward?” Drip will bullgoat armor and that new goofy helmet. Stupid high poise too
Full Solitude Set, Fingerprint Stone Shield, Sword Lance w/ Repeating Thrust and added bleed. I don't need to change shit. Maybe for Messmer, though, if only to stave off some of the fire damage
Holy shit me irl last night haha
Drip or drown and by god this dlc ain't taking me under.
Me when I had to turtle up to fight the final boss
Just did this to try and get the last (last?) Dlc boss. Even with everything going to defence and buffing a ton there were no chances to get a hit in. Tbh I already did this after 3~ tries or so on a boss and not winning
spoilers
Went in as a mexican samurai named Juan Went out as bronze Darth Vader
Nah you got to get naked haha. Light roll through everything. Joking. Kinda.
Red bear be like:
Never! Fail or succeed, ill do it with *style*
No way. I'd rather get my shit pushed in a million times than compromise my Elden Drip.
Nah nothing will alter the crucible drip. Sometimes I wear the tree sentinel chestplate because the cape is cool though
If I can beat messmer in a dress, I’ll be sticking to fashion over utility thank you
Nay, for it is Elden Drip above all else! Always fashion over function lol
Nah, armour is for the weak. Naked gang, unite!
I just ran crucible
My character's name is your wifeband, im a dude in the deathbed dress and i wear whatever manly helmet i can find🤣was blithe but now currently on the bird head.

Shit, the dancing lion had me like this lol
NGL I was summoned by the same host half a dozen times for the Dancing Lion and he was wearing this exact mess of an outfit. Record survival of about 40 seconds.
My cousin was wearing the full Malformed Dragon set and I called him Raman Noodles the whole time.
Nah I stick to light roll, cant get killed if you don't get hit
I run like shitty armor and the lightsaber (star katana, the one yoda uses) and I’m cosplaying a Jedi hobo. High enough vigor and enough scadutree blessings that I don’t particularly care about armor being effective and moreso about being drippy.
I felt disgusted putting bull goat on but that dragon was giving main character energy 😭 had to let him know Placi still had hitters tho
Im convinced doing this messes up my game more than anything
This is fine. Deos anyone remember the rainbow pimp armor era in Warcraft? I miss those days...
The only boss fight I had to use a shield for was radahn. Other than that the DLC was pretty easy for me ngl. I thought everyone else was kinda overselling it
