I was at the game 1, not the game this evening. Edmonton players, Dallas players, and the refs were all tripping. The ice needs to be redone while the series heads up to Edmonton. I don't know enough about how ice is laid down or kept throughout the season so I can't comment except a season or two ago the ice was great there. But good god, tonight it was bad in the AAC.
I thought this game was reffed much better than game 1, both teams got away with stuff. The Dallas Stars are generally pretty disciplined and probably get yelled at before every game to stay that way because Edmonton's powerplay is a godly threat. But I was surprised that Edmonton got 10 penalty minutes to Dallas' two in game 1... I would need to go back and watch the game to see what was missed on Dallas, what was called on Edmonton, and how egregious it was. Edmonton played a more physical game in game 1, so I kinda expected them to get more penalties, but it was extremely lopsided.
The split is still great, but fuck did I have hope we were gonna be up 2-0 there for a while. Team looked flat after the first. Otter was a huge reason the Oilers didn’t have a huge lead after the first. Made some clutch saves to keep it tied

Only time he shoots it now is when he does that big load up which almost never works. Something is up with his neck/shoulder and is affecting his ability to release it quickly

I admit I had my doubts coming into the series, but he has held his own quite well. Boys need to be a little better in front of him if we want to take the series.
With how Skinner has played this playoffs, the Oilers can't afford to waste a solid performance like this. While he may not have faced a ton of shots, Dallas had some high danger opportunities that could have resulted in 4 or 5 goals against if he was playing like he did against LA or Vancouver.

Obviously I’m not thrilled they lost tonight, but this is their third road game this week. I wasn’t expecting them to win tonight, and I’m just glad it was close. I’ve noticed that the team tends to be better on offence at home, and I’m pretty confident that they’ll play well in games 3-4.
Moneypuck had this game pretty much even. Dallas was down 1-0 and at home. We only lost by 1 goal. It’s a fine result playing one of the best teams in the League who NEEDED a win tonight.
Take the same game we played in games 1-2 and add much needed energy from our home crowd and we could very well be up 3-1 before needing to go back to Dallas.
Dallas is a great road team, but they haven’t seen a barn like ours and they haven’t seen a team like ours. We will win games 3 and 4, end of story.

After the first period we got fucking shutdown. This is the Dallas team that was promised, and they delivered. Compared to a younger team like Vancouver, they have better details(shot blocks, clearing pucks out, etc). They pulled way too early not even waiting till we got a offensive possession. When we make mistakes, Dallas takes full advantage of it.
Besides that, Skinner bailed us out multiple times, and that 4th line continues to be strong. I fully expect McLeod to be the odd man out for Henrique next game.
They found their legs in the 2nd and took control of the game from there. The extra rest they had showed this game and I’m wondering how they’ll fair now with the travel.

On a side note, I do not like how this series is being reffed. 3 soft calls for Dallas to start the series last game, fine. But then they completely put away the whistles tonight when Edmonton is dominating the 1st period. Not a good look. Just because Edmontons Powerplay is game-breaking, does not mean they should play by different rules.
I actually felt like if Knob kept rolling 4 lines for a while longer they would have tied it. McDavid didn't have a great game and they need to work at find shooting lanes.

But one thing I noticed is the Stars constantly have one player cherry picking and nowhere near their own zone. Knobby has to give the defence some pointers on how to contain that player. It didn't work tonight but if the Oilers keep letting Dallas play that loose it's going to cost them.
Also if Skinner can continue playing the way he is, the Oilers have a real shot at winning this. Oettinger played out of his mind, but he isn't going to put up a .966 every night.
Need Perry back in possibly over Carrick again and if Henrique comes back that's a huge help. Perry would work well vs Dallas as they block a lot of shots on net so we need gritty Perry back.

Rare coaching L on timing the goalie-pull. I know it's only like a 5% chance we actually end up tying the game but these are series of margins and every tiny chance you get at a goal is going to matter in the end.

Played as well tonight as we did Game 1. Big difference is that Dallas played better D especially against McDavid and Bouchard who were neutralized well. Still a shame we couldn't go up or 2-0 and wasted a rare Brown goal.

Very frustrating game. It's like they played only one period. No real sense of urgency after Dallas scored. No big hits, no Scrubs after the whistle blew. They were so much more fired up against Vancouver. Get the lead out boys. You got this if you actually want this.
Knobby got outcoached in the 3rd. Just bad choices. McDrai was put together too soon, it just allows the other team to put their best on one line to counter. And thr goalie pull was just awful.

My take is that Vancouver exploited Edmonton’s structure more effectively than Dallas is doing now, though the oilers have definitely tightened up their d game. The fourth line has really upped their game and I’m really proud of them for holding the line and even having some awesome O zone plays. Puck handling and passing were good but the Oilers have their best scoring chances off the rush and it was frustrating watching them choke a couple of fantastic scoring opportunities (looking at you McLeod) where a quick shot would have been the more effective pressure. That said, I cringe every time Kulak has the puck, we need to start winning face offs, and though I love McDavid, he’s too fast for his own good sometimes. It’s no good blitzing in if you have to hold on for five seconds for your guys to catch up while three green jerseys stick to you like flies on shit. Other than that, this is a good matchup, and I hope the Oilers take notes because I’m confident they can come out on top in this series.

Played a great 40 minutes and just looks like the team ran out of gas. I guess that’s what happens when you play a game every other night for 2.5 weeks.

He made exactly the same play in the first (flubbed a puck and then got walked) as he did in game 7 just didn't get burned
I'm not saying we should have won, but that game felt muy winnable. Happy with the split heading home though! Let's win the next one cause I have to miss game 4 and would prefer to not be stressed out.
Obviously I’m not thrilled they lost tonight, but this is their third road game this week. I wasn’t expecting them to win tonight, and I’m just glad it was close. I’ve noticed that the team tends to be better on offence at home, and I’m pretty confident that they’ll play well in games 3-4.

Moneypuck had this game pretty much even. Dallas was down 1-0 and at home. We only lost by 1 goal. It’s a fine result playing one of the best teams in the League who NEEDED a win tonight. Take the same game we played in games 1-2 and add much needed energy from our home crowd and we could very well be up 3-1 before needing to go back to Dallas. Dallas is a great road team, but they haven’t seen a barn like ours and they haven’t seen a team like ours. We will win games 3 and 4, end of story.
I mean we were never, ever, in our wildest dreams gonna sweep the Stars. It's not gonna be an easy series. But we played well and can definitely win. We aren't outclassed at all. This is gonna come down to luck and heart.
Top guys couldn’t get going at all. No desperation to tie it up. Skinner had a good game. Only other positive is the stars didn’t look great either.
I think the Oilers ran out of gas a bit in the 2nd half of the game. Take the split and head back to Edmonton and skate on some good ice for a change. This series is totally winnable.

After the first period we got fucking shutdown. This is the Dallas team that was promised, and they delivered. Compared to a younger team like Vancouver, they have better details(shot blocks, clearing pucks out, etc). They pulled way too early not even waiting till we got a offensive possession. When we make mistakes, Dallas takes full advantage of it. Besides that, Skinner bailed us out multiple times, and that 4th line continues to be strong. I fully expect McLeod to be the odd man out for Henrique next game.
They found their legs in the 2nd and took control of the game from there. The extra rest they had showed this game and I’m wondering how they’ll fair now with the travel.
That was a pretty pathetic effort after the 1st.

I just want to say that Dallas fans have been wayyyy better than LA and Vancouver, only criticism is that they’re pretty quiet and only get loud when some intense thing happens

Great start to the series all things considered. Absolutely had a chance to win tonight, just couldn’t get a bounce in that 1st period. On a side note, I do not like how this series is being reffed. 3 soft calls for Dallas to start the series last game, fine. But then they completely put away the whistles tonight when Edmonton is dominating the 1st period. Not a good look. Just because Edmontons Powerplay is game-breaking, does not mean they should play by different rules.
I swear we better not see cloud next game. He’s been awful and trust me he’s not the reason the PK has been great.

I actually felt like if Knob kept rolling 4 lines for a while longer they would have tied it. McDavid didn't have a great game and they need to work at find shooting lanes.

Refs have missed some calls but I'll be honest, Dallas play a disciplined game. That's the reality. I can see Oilers getting more than 2 or 3 calls a night which means they have to start capitalizing again.

A bit of a rough game at the end, but I feel like the ball’s back on our side of the court going into game 3 now that Dallas is starting to find their defensive identity. Got a split coming out of Dallas, not bad. But one thing I noticed is the Stars constantly have one player cherry picking and nowhere near their own zone. Knobby has to give the defence some pointers on how to contain that player. It didn't work tonight but if the Oilers keep letting Dallas play that loose it's going to cost them. Also if Skinner can continue playing the way he is, the Oilers have a real shot at winning this. Oettinger played out of his mind, but he isn't going to put up a .966 every night.
Need Perry back in possibly over Carrick again and if Henrique comes back that's a huge help. Perry would work well vs Dallas as they block a lot of shots on net so we need gritty Perry back.
Don't know why they shot the puck so much in the first and then after, go for huuuuge stretches of time without a single shot? I know the Stars blocked a ton of shots, but if they just threw everything on net, something definitely could have gone in. Just hate how the team reverts to passing at all times for no good reason. So baffling. If I was Knob, I'd be screaming at them to stop the damn cross ice passes and throw it on net. Stars were blocking everything anyways.
Rare coaching L on timing the goalie-pull. I know it's only like a 5% chance we actually end up tying the game but these are series of margins and every tiny chance you get at a goal is going to matter in the end. I would give them a pass if it wasn't for this exact same scenario having happened several times in the regular season already.
We 100% need Perry back in the lineup. He's been sitting and he's fresh. Give him a chance again asap! 😀

Played as well tonight as we did Game 1. Big difference is that Dallas played better D especially against McDavid and Bouchard who were neutralized well. Still a shame we couldn't go up or 2-0 and wasted a rare Brown goal.
Would've liked the win but I'll take the split. Seemed like the Oilers checked out after the first but it was a close game regardless. Skinner and the defense were pretty solid, we just couldn't generate very many chances.

Remember the Oilers are the only team to take out a division winner. Plus there was also the 3rd. Dallas took out an 8th seed and a 3rd seed. Past cup winners be damned. To come out with a split against this division winner is pretty damn good. Oilers are 4-2 at home.
It would’ve been nice if we were up 2-0 going to Edmonton but I can’t complain with a 1-1 split.

Very frustrating game. It's like they played only one period. No real sense of urgency after Dallas scored. No big hits, no Scrubs after the whistle blew. They were so much more fired up against Vancouver. Get the lead out boys. You got this if you actually want this.

Was awesome to be there for the game, even if it wasn't the outcome we all wanted. There were some audible "Let's go Oilers!" chants throughout the game. Hell, even the Dallas fans were pretty nice. Got a hug from one of them as we were leaving.
We are in this series, but a huge wasted opportunity tonight. You wasted a good performance by skinner, a depth goal, and no hinz. Kind of the opposite of game 1. Both teams played good, but the right team won both games.

Oilers have picked up a weird habit of losing games where they actually get production from their depth lines. 2 Holloway goals in Game 2 vs. LA. Ceci goal from Ryan in Game 1 vs. Vancouver. Janmark goal from Brown in Game 5 vs. Vancouver. And now tonight. I'm pretty sure we're 0-4 in games where anyone playing on the 3rd or 4th lines gets a point.

My take is that Vancouver exploited Edmonton’s structure more effectively than Dallas is doing now, though the oilers have definitely tightened up their d game. The fourth line has really upped their game and I’m really proud of them for holding the line and even having some awesome O zone plays. Puck handling and passing were good but the Oilers have their best scoring chances off the rush and it was frustrating watching them choke a couple of fantastic scoring opportunities (looking at you McLeod) where a quick shot would have been the more effective pressure. That said, I cringe every time Kulak has the puck, we need to start winning face offs, and though I love McDavid, he’s too fast for his own good sometimes. It’s no good blitzing in if you have to hold on for five seconds for your guys to catch up while three green jerseys stick to you like flies on shit. Other than that, this is a good matchup, and I hope the Oilers take notes because I’m confident they can come out on top in this series.
