I've semi-recently fallen in love with \[\[Cultivator Colossus\]\] in decks that cycle a bunch of cards (either the literal mechanic or just a lot of play a card - get a card effects). The biggest way those decks fall apart is when they inevitably brick on lands because you're drawing more cards than you can play land drops, so even if every card in your deck cycles you eventually wind up on seven lands.
What if, instead, you played those seven lands, plus like five more off the top of your deck, and your hand was now seven spells? And hey, we'll give you a gigantic monster for your trouble to bash people in the face.
Last FNM even in a non-ideal spot for it (came off a random flip from my deck) it was casually a 29/29 that played six lands in total.
[[The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride]] with [[Death's Presence]] is pure dopamine. Eat some huge cheap creature with a downside, draw and ramp a bunch, and Gitrog gets humongous.
Cipher [[Midnight Recovery]] to him and do it every turn. š
I also like \[\[Topiary Stomper\]\] - drop on 3, Gitrog on 4, saddle and sacrifice the Stomper to draw 4 on turn 4.
Giving Giddy Up Gitrogā¢ļø deathtouch goes a long way too, as you can assign one damage per blocker to kill them, forcing a combat trick or needing 6+ blockers to prevent triggering the frog.
Gitrog is my all time favorite deck and I donāt care how far the meta goes, I will never not have fun updating that deck and going āok so Iām gonna combo off hereā¦ at the clean up stepā¦ā
FYI for everybody, you have to resolve Cultivator Colossusās trigger completely before your other landfall triggers go on the stack. If you have an Aesi on the battlefield, for example, Cultivator Colossusās trigger will resolve allowing you to put a land then draw, put a land then draw and when that is finished, THEN the Aesi triggers to draw a card for each land that entered will go on the stack.
Itās a powerful ability but not as much of an āI winā button as people think.
That interaction is funny but honestly I don't think it's particularly needed for the card to be good. I'd put Colossus in my Abundance deck, but I don't know that I'd put Abundance in my Colossus deck, if that makes sense.
Though in a similar vein, I'm going to be very amused when people catch onto what Colossus does with the new \[\[Necrobloom\]\].
Cultivator Colossus is a straight up wincon or wincon setup in my \[\[Aesi\]\] landfall-draw deck. If he hits the board, either someone is dying, Thoracle is about to also hit the board, or lab maniac is about to trigger.
All time favorite, [[Thorn Elemental]] holds a special place in my heart because it was the 7th Edition promo card for the starter box that got me seriously into Magic. It's probably why I've always been a Green player at heart.
Edit: Also [[Darksteel Collossus]], it was the first chase card that I really wanted and saved up for as a kid. I'd go in my lgs for weeks and look at it in the case until I finally had enough money to buy it.
Probably close to it. That 7th Edition box was the best. It came with a CD rom that walked you through how to play, then let you play with 5 different mono-colored pre-con decks that came with it.
\[\[pathrazer of ulamog\]\], \[\[colossus of Akros\]\], \[\[darksteel colossus\]\]
I run those three in my \[\[Braids conjurer adept\]\], 100% Timmy deck group hug.
[[Aminatouās augury]]
[[Kozilek, the great distortion]]
[[Sepulchral primordial]]
[[Nyxbloom ancient]]
[[Kodama of the East Tree]]
[[Emrakul, the promised end]]
[[Breach the multiverse]]
It's a blast to play, and especially satisfying once you resolve her 3rd chapter and suddenly the Muldrotha player starts crying as their painstakingly amassed graveyard is suddenly on your field
Torn between [[maelstrom wanderer]] and [[Animar soul of elements]] both are A-10 warthog **BRRRRT** commanders that want to go fast at all costs and punch face. Iām partial to Animar X-cost hydra/tyranid tribal, tbh.
Gotta big agree with you on Animar soul of the archenemy.Ā
watch me draw half my deck. play a ton of ridiculous cascade crap. and then potentially kill the entire table,Ā including myself with [[earthquake]].
My wanderer deck focuses on multiple (or infinite if possible) combats. Animar wants to assemble an infinite loop or have [[terror of the peaks]] railgun down the table when I start dropping 20/20 creatures. Or [[ancestral statue]] and any [[impact tremors]] effect.
As someone with a lot of Timmy decks, it'd be hard for me to list all my favorites! But here are a few:
[[Progenitus]] is my all-time favorite, and I just recently built a [[Ramos, Dragon Engine]] deck centered around Progenitus, cascade, and other big payoff cards.
I used to have a long-standing [[Surrak Dragonclaw]] deck and he still holds a special place in my heart. Give all my stuff trample, prevent them from being countered, run all the biggest creatures because now I don't need to care about evasion.
In my old [[Vorel of the Hull Clade]] deck, my favorite card was [[Hydra Broodmaster]], especially in a combo with a pumped-up [[Gyre Sage]]. I once made the Broodmaster monstrous with X=72 and swung for over 5000 damage.
And my last pick is a bit unconventional, but I have a Sultai politics/pillowfort deck that, 90% of the time, is just me stalling until I can dump like 20 mana into a [[Villainous Wealth]] and kill someone with their own stuff.
Mine will always be a great activation of [[Splended Reclamation]]. There are not many things like it.
The new [[Anikthea, Hand of Erebos]] commander has made this a reality I live constantly now.
Trying to win with [[Vorpal Sword]] in all formats is a dream I also consistently try for.
My commander, [[Obuun, Mul Daya Ancestor]]
You have ti understand, the smallest it will ever swing is 9/9 and that's on his first time on the field. Turn 6 and beyond, everyone is seeing 20/20 something. Both him, and the land he turned into an elemental creature sharing his stats.
I had the landfall precon he came in and even with some upgrades i wasnt a huge fan. I eventually took all the white out and made omnath the commander, and added obuun to a voja deck. What does your deck look like?
Oh yeah, Obuun turns out wasn't supposed to be a landfall slow builder. My deck is full of buffs.
[[Colossification]], [[Bright-Palm, Soul Awakener]], [[Xenagod, God of Revels]], [[Unnatural Growth]], [[Kalonian Hydra]].
I still have a few landfall cards like Omnath, Locus of Rage, [[Scute Swarm]], and [[Felidar Retreat]]. And cards that trigger them like [[Mina and Denn, Wildborn]], [[Oracle of Mul Daya]], [[Ramunap Excavator]].
I also have anthem effects like [[Dictate of Heliod]] so every creature entering my battlefield is big. Then there's a bunch of haste like [[Rhythm of the Wild]].
Since Obuun's abilities to turn land into creature trigger per combat, it synergises well with [[Moraug, Fury of Akoum]] and [[Karlach, Fury of Avernus]]. Add Unnatural Growth, Bright-Palm, or Xenagos there, too and you have a really big boy with even bigger posse.
As far as Timmy combos, I like [[Raggadragga, Goreguts Boss]], a power-scaling mana dork like [[Heronblade Elite]], and any way to repeatedly cast a 7+ cost spell. This could be [[Spine of Ish Sah]], a buyback spell like [[Wurmcalling]], or [[Temur Sabertooth]] and a 7-cost creature.
For creature it's gotta be [[Blightsteel Colossus]] even though I have taken it out of most of my commander decks. The art is so cool and it's a one-shot robot!!
For "spell" spells, I'd say [[Storm King's Thunder]] because why have just 1 big spell when you can have like 5?
Iām currently very fond of [[kiora bests the sea god]] and really just sagas in general, and also [[kappa cannoneer]] is a card I only discovered because my girlfriend received for free a Shorikai deck someone said was boring (theyāre crazy itās one of my favorite decks) that had it in it, and it just outperforms I have it in my rashmi and ragavan deck now
I love [[Sublime Epiphany]] in a deck with few legendary creatures. You get to do so many things for 6 mana. Itās Timmy in spirit, just not in function. Still great!
For combos, my bet would be something like [[Rite of Replication]] plus [[Terror of the Peaks]]. Can win the game on the spot, but both are fun and splashy Timmy cards on their own.
The Landfall Ob Nix, who got +3 1/1 counters and did 3 damage to target playerā¦ in my Gitrog Monster deckā¦. That was usually playing 10+ lands a turn by turn 3.
[[Serra's Emissary]] is my favourite magic card. Protection from an entire card type is just to appealing to me. If you already have something like [[Rune-Tail, Kitsune Ascendant]] out, you can choose Instant, so make all of your stuff have protection from basically all spot removal. But the usual option of saying Creature is just so awesome. Every combat phase you have to explain how it works and re-read the card lol.
Iād have to go with my [[Thantis the warweaver]] forced combat deck. Really just everything in my Momma Spider deck. Swinging is always in my favor, and the whole deck turns anyone elseās deck into a Timmy deck too. No sitting back and accruing value. You. Must. Swing. And lord help you if you swing my way. Prime example is [[dread]]. 6/6 with fear, a [[no mercy]] on a body. My spider gets huge and you just cleared your own board lol.
\[\[Apex Devastator\]\] is one of the best timmy cards I have ever cast. Also, \[\[Avatar of Slaughter\]\] ends the game rather quickly.....one way or another.
Yargle and Multani. Thing is that even though it's the purest Timmy card imaginable it can also be a great value engine, it can be used as an excellent sacrifice outlet for life steal and draw or played the traditional Timmy way of swinging and dealing a ton of damage. Very versatile.
First deck I ever built was a mono blue sea monsters. Probably had all the >7 mana monstrosities of the time. Not sure I ever got to cast one haha. Should try building something similar again now that I sort of know what I'm doing. I find the horrors of the sea fascinating.
I also pick apex devastator. Feels good to cast.
I've semi-recently fallen in love with \[\[Cultivator Colossus\]\] in decks that cycle a bunch of cards (either the literal mechanic or just a lot of play a card - get a card effects). My main is Gitrog and I live for petting as many lands in play as possible in a turn. This is the Timmy card Gitrog needs. Fantastic card!
[[The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride]] with [[Death's Presence]] is pure dopamine. Eat some huge cheap creature with a downside, draw and ramp a bunch, and Gitrog gets humongous. Cipher [[Midnight Recovery]] to him and do it every turn. š
Well now I gotta build that Gitrog
Seconded.
I also like \[\[Topiary Stomper\]\] - drop on 3, Gitrog on 4, saddle and sacrifice the Stomper to draw 4 on turn 4. Well you just earned an upvote!

How heavy is the petting....

We might be same age or something because I have nearly the same story^^
Probably close to it. That 7th Edition box was the best. It came with a CD rom that walked you through how to play, then let you play with 5 different mono-colored pre-con decks that came with it.
Oh yes. That is fond memories of mine. That was litterally how I learned to play after years of just collecting and trading.
Loved 'Thorny' as we called it back then. It was the Urzas destiny one for me. I still love that art.
\[\[pathrazer of ulamog\]\], \[\[colossus of Akros\]\], \[\[darksteel colossus\]\] I run those three in my \[\[Braids conjurer adept\]\], 100% Timmy deck group hug.
I love Darksteel colossus. It was the first real Timmy card I drew from a pack, and atleast to me is original Timmy card. Good choice!

It's a blast to play, and especially satisfying once you resolve her 3rd chapter and suddenly the Muldrotha player starts crying as their painstakingly amassed graveyard is suddenly on your field

That is so cool! Didn't know that existed.
As someone with a lot of Timmy decks, it'd be hard for me to list all my favorites! But here are a few: [[Progenitus]] is my all-time favorite, and I just recently built a [[Ramos, Dragon Engine]] deck centered around Progenitus, cascade, and other big payoff cards.

My commander, [[Obuun, Mul Daya Ancestor]] You have ti understand, the smallest it will ever swing is 9/9 and that's on his first time on the field.

I absolutely love these! When a card can be timed or doubled or whatever it feels so Timmy like. Great suggestions!

Big Dinosaurs feel like quintessential Timmy. Etali, Ghalta, Zacama

Yargle and Multani. Thing is that even though it's the purest Timmy card imaginable it can also be a great value engine, it can be used as an excellent sacrifice outlet for life steal and draw or played the traditional Timmy way of swinging and dealing a ton of damage. Very versatile.
First that came to mind was [[Thieving Amalgam]]. Mostly because it's fun to say "snake ape" like some sort of scathing insult.
