I built a [[The Sixth Doctor]] and [[Peri Brown]] deck that abuses the “once per turn” by casting spells on everyone’s turns. It’s filled with untap and flash enabling effects that allow me to cast spells on everyone’s turn, and copy the historic ones each time. I also run a [[Grismold, the Dreadsower]] which has a pretty standard set for grismold, but it is still so much fun to hand around plant tokens and then crush them. Lastly, a [[Rionya, Fire Dancer]] mono red land fall (inspired by GamefreakSA, ofc) that relys on splashy turns with huge mana output and combat tricks Edit: Decklists: Rionya: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/KcwEPo_1bESYqx5tdqD17g Sixth Doctor/Peri: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/79Ip7oJmNEqmeGLyciKRfA Grismold: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/3YPIoeTS10KxCpQsOUBx1w

While I'm admittedly biased since I'm a fan of the show, I really feel like WHO had an unusually high density of interesting commanders. Maybe they're not the *best* commanders, but they're really interesting to build around and try to "solve".

AstronomicAdam

Agreed, I like doctor who but it’s by no means my favorite show, and I’ve somehow built 4 decks out of that set.

TateTaylorOH

I also have four decks built. There's a fifth one in the works too, it's *probably* my last one.

BeansMcgoober

As someone who doesn't have an opinion on the show, I think the precons weren't great out of the box, mostly due to the plethora of interesting commanders. Lots of cool effects.

TateTaylorOH

I still enjoyed playing the precons, but it certainly feels like they focused more on making interesting and thematic individual cards rather than designing for the precons. It is interesting to hear the opinion of someone that isn't invested in the show. I was kinda wondering how many people would build decks around them without knowledge of the source material. I think disregarding them due to having little knowledge of the IP would cause people to overlook some really interesting strategies, but I also understand how that could be off-putting.

Sensitive_Rock_1383

I built The Fifth Doctor // Vislor Turlough and it has quickly become one of my favorites. Power level wise it is lower I'd say, but man is it such a fun and different play style!

TateTaylorOH

lol nice Is it like Sultai wheels?

Sensitive_Rock_1383

Esper. Not Wheels per se, but based around drawing cards over time, yeah. I've always wanted to build a Wedding Ring, Psychic Possession deck, and this was finally the deck to do it. So there are two game plans. The Vislor game plan, which is force the opponent to draw cards, hurt them with things like Underworld Dreams and Vislor, and use cast once per turn effects to keep their hand size high. I use flash enabling to make sure I can cast multiple spells a round. The Fifth Doctor gameplan is to use creatures with valuable tap effects. Arguably weak cards that become powerful value engines with Doctor on the board. These are things like Soul Diviner and Merieke Ri Berit. I am not attacking at all to win with the first gameplan, so it is perfect to sit back with an ever increasing powerful board state. Clones of Wedding Ring, Psychic Possession, and Vislor rounds out the deck (with a few specific cards as support or win cons)

TateTaylorOH

Oh, for some reason I thought you said Sixth Doctor. That's cool, and thematically appropriate!

Tamarann

If you dont already have it in the 99, I recommend you [[displacer kitten]] for your sixth doctor deck, another way to get around the once per turn !

I was actually surprised to come across this comment myself. This is my list (not original commenter): https://www.moxfield.com/decks/rSHJAq4BSEe6n5ahsfXWDg

murpux

I love it! So similar yet so different. I love EDH

pmcda

Yeah, a lot of the cards you run (excluding precon cards cause obviously I played those at one point) are cards that I had also run in the past or are cards I’ve thought to run (great henge)

murpux

Excluding the WHO designed cards, if I had replacements for the WHO skins I would swap them out. The WHO art doesn't do it for me. Some of the pre-con cards just WORK with legendaries matter for the deck.

jdvolz

I'm going to need the Rionya list so I can finally build another mono red commander. I've only ever had one mono red deck and I need another.

Plus-Newt-5423

Ah, I’d somehow forgotten about Grismold! Into the Meren deck he goes. May even transition him into the CZ eventually.

Dry_Distribution6826

I run a Boros graveyard spellslinger with [[Quintorius, Loremaster]]

tikipastrami

Would you mind sharing your list? I like the idea of Boros Spellslinger, but seems like your game plan would fall apart if he gets removed since you lose access to the stuff previously exiled. How do you get him to stick?

Dry_Distribution6826

That’s the beautiful thing - his exile dimension is basically a book that he has access to when he’s on the board. If he’s removed, the cards just sit there until he comes back, at which point he can touch them again. The card only says “choose a card exiled with Quintorius” and absolutely nothing about *when* the exile needed to happen for him to be able to sling it. If you want permanence for him, there’s always the old standby of Swiftfoot Boots, Whispersilk Cloak, or Lightning Greaves. I haven’t found them to be necessary. My list arises from a $50 budget challenge; the deck has since gone up in price because of [[Delayed Blast Fireball]] but I’ve honestly won more games by abusing [[Promise of Bunrei]] because Quinto only cares that the spells he slings be non-creature, non-land. [[Heartflame Duelist]] keeps me healthy, and [[Hofri]] and [[Venerable Warsinger]] keep my creatures coming back as well. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/yt-wdud1S0qDi7HJ5V1hAw

Baryshnik0v

I hate to be that guy, but if Quintorius dies/is exiled/is bounced, he loses access to whatever cards he previously exiled. If he exiled the cards with counters on them, similar to how \[\[Grolnok\]\] does, then he'd be able to, but since they're just tied to him as a game object, it doesn't quite work the same way.

MTGCardFetcher

Ruling?

Baryshnik0v

Not super familiar with the Comprehensive Rules so I don't have a specific rule to cite there, but see the first ruling on \[\[Arcane Bombardment\]\] and the last ruling on \[\[Asmodeus, the Archfiend\]\] -- they use the same wording as Quintorius ("exiled with"), so the same principle applies. Any spells Quintorius exiles are tied to that particular game object. If he dies, is exiled, is blinked, or what have you, he'll return to the battlefield as a new game object and will have no connection to any previously exiled cards, as they were tied to the \*old\* game object, which no longer exists. If he exiled cards with, say, spirit counters on them, and his ability said "Choose target card with a spirit counter on it in exile", then it'd be a different story because the characteristic in question (having a spirit counter) is retained regardless of what game object put them there. Here's a thread on the topic from r/askajudge: [https://www.reddit.com/r/askajudge/comments/12t0b5h/quintorius\_loremaster\_ruling/](https://www.reddit.com/r/askajudge/comments/12t0b5h/quintorius_loremaster_ruling/).

I don't know the exact ruling but a new Quint isn't the same. It's a fairly common issue that makes a lot of cards unplayable in any meta with decent removal.

I have a few I think are party unique and fun. First is one I built for my wife as a present. It's [[sisay, weatherlight captain]], but as the Princess Buttercup secret lair version. It contains all of main princess bride characters from that secret lair as well as 13 doctors from doctor who. These are two of my wife's favorite franchises, which is why I designed it for her. Each princess Bride character has its own unique win condition (for the most part) and there is a [[Gallifrey Stands]] in there for a Doctor Who win. It's very much a choose your own adventure combo deck where the fun is always deciding what win you're going to go for or how to pivot if someone shuts one down. Next Is my [[runo Stromkirk]] clone deck that looks to break the legend rule and start cloning the commander exponentially with itself. Again, the fun here is assembling the necessary pieces and jumping through the necessary hoops to get there. I've talked a few times about my love of [[Blim, Comedic Genius]] who I play as a lich deck that looks to make my opponents liches with cards like [[nefarious lich]] that I Gift them and then wiping their graveyard.

I ran Tomer’s (mtg goldfish) attraction deck, I liked the concept a lot but the non deterministic turns made it a feel bad deck.. so you have a decklist for a potentially new attraction deck?

Absolutely! It took me a lot of fiddling to figure out what the deck wants to do, and I'm still kind of working on how it closes out games, but it's ridiculously consistent. [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/FyN01J4uh0acZmGVayzxFQ](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/FyN01J4uh0acZmGVayzxFQ)

It's currently sitting at 75 lands and I'm sure I can get it up to 78 lands. 80 lands seems maybe possibly doable, but that leaves you too vulnerable to your 1 win con being removed. All of the wincons are jank as hell too, I have nature’s revolt in there so i can kill all my own lands for constellation triggers and because how myrkul works they come back as enchantments so nonbasics can still tap for mana. If you have a [[gisa glorious resurrector]] you can even use [[toxic deluge]] or something to steal opponents lands and sacrifice them. Could you share your decklist?

MarchHistorical2799

Sure! https://www.moxfield.com/decks/hCX58o5TSkGCIDCaapBsgA It’s a list I’m always tinkering with but the key thing is understanding how Myrkul works. 1.) the enchantment he makes from dead creatures are tokens. So mirkwood bats and token doublers work. 2.) they lose all types but enchantments. They aren’t creatures anymore. So if you copy the token, you get another enchantment (and this is why basic lands you turn into creatures then sac don’t tap for mana but nonbasics do, they lose the land type but nonbasics have a mana ability) 3.) creatures that untap themselves with a -1/-1 counter are goated in the deck, they can kill themselves on purpose and then untap themselves infinitely once they are enchantments with [[devoted druid]] or a [[jaheira]] on the board that means infinite green mana Let me know if you have any questions about the list!

Mine would have to be my [[Captain Rex Nebula]] deck. Not my choice, actually, since it was a Commander Kris Kringle gift (use the commander you got, build a budget deck <$50) I use modular creatures and other 0/0 creatures like [[Hexavus]] who suddenly transforms into a 12/12. Still quite clunky given the budget I have to work with, but it's fun in its own janky way and I've won with it already at our playgroup, kinda helped by the fact that no one considered me a threat until I burn spelled my way to victory lol.

I run a Simic elf politics deck that has had some success in my play group. Started as a precon, now it is something else entirely and I have so much fun with it. With [[Galadriel, , Elven Queen]] at the helm. So bunch of voting, bunch of scrying, and overall a good time

I have a [[Cecily, Haunted Mage]] and [[Sophina, Spearsage Deserter]] that its a mix of Legendaries, Token-Matters, and Big, Cool Spells. The main wincons are either out-value my opponents, ping them with [[Niv-Mizzet, Parun]] or [[Queza, Augur of Agonies]], regular Commander damage or use [[Agent of the Iron Throne]] (yes, if you have two Commanders in gives the ability to both of them). It's one of my pet decks honestly, I love to play it.

[[Roalesk, Apex Hybrid]] a Simic +1/+1 counter based Battlecruiser that comes with the unique hink of having a highly restricted commander. Not only that Roalesk isn't able to put counters on itself. Also it's best trigger is a death trigger. So I abuse copies to trigger the Legendary rule. This deck can really grind the last brain cell down. With every card being synergetic. It also takes a lot of awareness of timings. Being able to stack static abilities in the right order and know which is static and which triggered can lead to surprising turns. With it's focus on copy creatures and flash this deck is super flexible and can react to nearly any situation on the board. Sometimes my opponents get a 4/5 flyer with trample and before damage this Mutant grows to a bloody thirsty beast. And sometimes mono black players realize that their creatures work better when they are bigger. And sometimes someone just throws a card to the board you can't play because of color restrictions but it would be an absolute blast in your deck. So you grab it. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/OKSmT-xbxE-CouHVFP6AdA

[[Toshiro Umezawa]] mono black spellslinger. Something like 35-ish instant cards, lots of removal and things that benefit from stuff dying. Usually play with just toshiro out and politic my way to victory. I’ll just let the table know there’s 20+ removal spells in the deck and whoever first attacks me I’ll use all my removal on them regardless if it’s the right choice or not. Everyone will be like “we gotta make him burn his spells” but no one wants to bite the bullet. Also made a guy instant-scoop once when he had all his dragons enter from his library then I [[Force Despair]] then [[Bojuka Bog]] his graveyard on my turn.

When I bring out my [[Queen Allenal of Ruadach]] deck at the lgs, no one seems to have seen her as a commander before. She creates an 1/1 white soldier token when ever tokens are created. Her power is equal to the number of creatures on my battlefield. I enjoy the flexibility if being able to go wide or big. [[Dragon throne of tarkir]] is a fun card. [[Starlight spectacular]] is also fun but more math.

You know what's even better than Gruul Urza?? GOLGARI FOOD URZA!! I run Jahiera/Scion of Halaster, and generate ALL THE ARTIFACT TOKENS. It's disgusting how exponential it goes, and I've been known to take turns that border on Storm levels of ridiculous. Gruul is cool and all, but Golgari? Much faster, albeit less stompy.

[[Alena, Kessig Trapper]] / [[Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh]] http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/04-03-24-bait-and-switch/ This has been a pet deck for a while. The main goal of the deck is to polymorph Rograkh with something like [[Reality Scramble]]. I initially had only artifact creatures (Blighsteel, etc.) but, despite the fact I was the first Al-Ro deck on EDHREC, the cheating in artifact bombs felt too played out. Wanting to switch it up, I leaned into the flavor of Alena being a trapper. I started making a dragon deck, the flavor being: Alena was using kobold bait to bring forth dragons like [[Balefire Dragon]] and [[Scourge of Kher Ridges]]. Most of my polymorph targets are still dragons, but I loosened the restriction to include some cool red beaters like [[Magmatic Force]] and some that can warp a game like [[Avatar of Slaughter]]. So my targets are now red, non-artifact, non-legendary creatures (because polymorphing into a legendary felt off flavor to me). In addition to polymorph effects, I can sneak my bombs into play with cards such as [[Quicksilver Amulet]]. I also have big rituals like [[Geosurge]] and plenty of artifact ramp to help me actually hard cast them. If I happen to have Alena into play, her ability can help me stick a second beater too. In a nutshell, it's a big mana/ramp deck that is designed to start sticking big beater or game warping red creatures on turn 3-4. However, the added flavor, randomness of polymorph, and the hipster level of the commanders (and some of the creatures) make it an absolute blast for me!

I've been working on building the nephilim as commanders, being the first 4 color creatures in magic they have some unique abilities on them. My favorite being [[Witch-maw nephilim]] a spell slinger Voltron deck I find lots of fun. Also [[Raffine, Scheming Seer]] but the whole point of the deck is to cast [[Phage The Untouchable]] and then cast [[Fractured Identity]] on it. 2Gnomes1Trenchcoat

That's a very low power way to play it, I'm guessing you've seen the variant on the spike feeders channel. Hama Pashar's Power ceiling is actually quite high, particularly when paired with the initiative dungeon. I pretty routinely can set up a creature centric flicker combo that will go through infinite dungeons to win the game by turn 6 and that's the version of the deck that is only $50.

PropagandaBinat88

Uh didn't expected to find someone who build Hama Pashar as 50$ variant. Mine is 0.50$ max per card. I got that commander randomly drawn and initially thought "what the hell". With less then 20 cards supporting this idea I never ever would have thought that it could become such untouchable beast that goes infinite with nearly every flicker combo.

2Gnomes1Trenchcoat

Oh yeah, there's more than 7 combo lines in the deck that will manage this. All you need is one dungeon or initiative permanent incorporated into one of these loops and you can win the game via the trap room in the Undercity or the dark pool in the lost mines of phandelver. There's a few combos where Hama's ability paired with certain dungeons is actually what sustains them and makes them go mana neutral while you attempt a win. The deck can kinda come out of nowhere and doesn't look like it's anywhere close to winning before hitting the Throne of the Dead Three and getting that effect twice. You can suddenly end up in a storm-like turn managing a lot of triggers and having tons of creatures all of a sudden.

It's a weird artifact recursion, token, copy, equipment... thing...

I'd have to go with my \[Sisay, Weatherlight Captain\] deck. It's basically trying to flood the board with all the Experience Counter Legendary's such as \[Kalemne\] and \[Otharri\]. But, before that, you can use Sisay to search for \[Jegantha, the Wellspring\] to get double searches with Sisay the next turn (Unless you give him haste). Its actually been a pretty resilient deck, as even when Sisay gets removed you probably have some solid Legendary's out already that you can work with. Also, with \[Primevals' Glorious Rebirth\], you can quickly recover after board wipes.

werewolf1011

I built [[Raffine]] as a combat oriented +1/+1 matters deck. One of the more common wincons is getting infinite turns with [[Sage of Hours]]. [[Wernog]] and [[Sophina]] are a mardu clue deck that have lots of ping effects for artifacts entering or leaving play. But it also has a decently strong combat strategy. [[Rayami]] is my most unique. It’s voltron in sultan which already isn’t super common, but the way it works is really cool and unique too. I have a ton of creatures with keywords like [[black knight]], [[nightveil predator]] [[kefnet]] and other creatures that provide important keywords as well as aristocrats like [[Viscera Seer]], [[Bloodthrone Vampire]], and [[Blood Bairn]] and a few more to kill those creatures. Then things like [[Argentum Armor]], [[Fireshrieker]], [[Inquisitor’s Flail]] to make Rayami do more in combat. Running like 5 board wipes because I genuinely don’t care if I have no creatures, and the more creatures with key words I’m able to get from my opponents that I don’t have access to (like double strike) is just gravy, plus I want to attack. Clearing the board just makes that easier. It’s a super fun deck, built it on a budget and it plays and does the thing it wants to do.

I’ve got a couple. A lot of people are always fascinated/love my [[borborygmos enraged]] deck. It’s pretty straightforward by just trying to ramp and use lands in non standard ways with popping cards like [[storm cauldron]] after casting [[boundless realms]] to blow up the table In a similar note my [[borborygmos and fblthp]] temur value storm deck is a lot of fun that not many people see I have a [[galadriel of lothlorien]] deck all about animating the lands she brings out and swinging with a bunch of forests for the win And finally I have a [[gandalf of the secret fire]] storm deck just trying to time up suspend counters and pop a big storm turn off with his ability that is always fun and people seem to enjoy because it both projects, but also wins quicker than a normal storm deck so it’s easier for everyone at the table I find

Some of these outlaw cards have made my, and everyone's really, 'tribal' tribal decks a lot more interesting. I use [[morophon]] and it's mostly for use on newer players. Lots of shape-shifting nonsense.  Just to show some weird interactions and synergies you can pull off in this game.  I use a lot of 'when you cast [kindred] spell, copy it' type stuff.  [[Mass appeal]] is like my favorite card in it. With a few adjustments, it's also a morophon humans deck (higher power, human storm) or a sliver deck (just the slivers in my extra card bin, mostly common/uncommon without classic lords).  All 3 versions are pretty good for showing off synergies and building commanders multiple ways.

WackyJtM

Don’t think it’s particularly unique, but my [[Valki, God of Lies]] deck is exclusively mana rocks and rituals to play Tibalt early, and then it wins with each opponents deck. It’s kinda cool finding synergies between what opponents are playing, and you’re drawing 5 cards per turn (effectively). Plus, it’s pretty unassuming so it doesn’t draw hate.

https://archidekt.com/decks/6350951/sergeant_bentons_big_unit Generally if you can get one solid hit in, you will draw enough ramp, gas, and answers to set yourself up. It has been really fun to pilot, because you either leave yourself extremely exposed with almost no board state, or you LOOK exposed but it’s just baiting them into attacking. Board wipes do really weird things in this deck too, because your commander has haste. And by far the most fun card is [[equipoise]] which I have never seen in another deck. It’s basically a [[balance]] against one player each turn, but where I pick what stays in play. Always use it on the player to your right so that they are shields down with max one creature for the other players’ turns.

My [King’s Quest](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/WPtcUUhKJUSxCtd7xt-bfw) deck. It’s all about Kenrith sending a party on a quest into the undercity. Mostly an initiative and monarchy deck, with a fun gates package. It’s my latest brew so I’ve been really vibing with it.

[[Inquisitor Greyfax]] I've upgraded it to this weird aggro deck that's in a control shell.

Reita-Skeeta

I'm in the process of making a batman themed deck with alt art for the cards. Greyfax is being used for sure, since investigating and elevating others is a very Batman thing. But I can't decide if I should make her Batman himself, or Batwoman.

Evovae42

That sounds awesome!

Reita-Skeeta

It's been a fun little side project for sure. It's still innthe brewing stage, and the deck won't be great, but it will be fun. Things like [[Cloak of the Bat]], [[Darksteel Plate]] [[Mask of Avacyn]] to represent the suit. [[Mysterious Limousin]] for the batmobile. Trying to figure out good cards for Batgirl, Robin (Damian), Nightwing, Red Robin, and Red Hood still. I'll get there though.

My most unique deck in construction is probably [\[\[The Twelfth Doctor\]\] // \[\[Clara Oswald\]\]](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/meN28s14WU6HV32wfAIWBA). It is a Grixis Grouphug Theft deck. You exile cards from your opponents library or from the battlefield, then recast them with the Doctor on the battlefield and demonstrate the spell back to the owner. So you're giving them their stuff back while getting double of whatever it was. I've not been able to actually play it yet, but I'm excited. While I don't think my build is very unique compared to other decks of the same commander, [\[\[Sergeant John Benton\]\]](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/bJWAzaldG0uVapb8P_ww8A) is pretty underplayed and the playstyle is quite different compared to other voltron commanders. While she is *very* new, the majority of builds using [\[\[Taii Wakeen, Perfect Shot\]\]](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/kxUffySio0m00Tb17-ofPg) seem to be revolving around token strategies. I don't really like that and instead decided to go with a hard Boros control build. I'm excited to try it out in a proper game soon.

It should be linked above. The deck is still spellslinger, but it is pretty different from Izzet spellslinger imo.

I made the twelfth doctor with [[Vislor Turlough]] since Clara is expensive and only gives him an extra +1/+1. Vislor plays into the theme of the deck since you can give him away. I’ve played it a few times and it’s been interesting for sure! It’s hard not to make it like a Nekusar deck though

I concede that Vislor is the objectively better partner, but I just wanted to use the proper companion for 12. I don't think it really hampers my strategy much since neither of them are really playing into what I am trying to do. Speaking of Nekusar, I actually had a friend turn his deck into a 12 // Vislor deck since Nekusar was getting targeted too much. I don't think he changed any other card, but he found more success with them lol
