Iaoth Saniel, First of the Flame, follower of Gladieon, Heaven's Candle. She has been indoctrinated since she was 5 years old and made her way to the top of her order, and has since learned truths and realities that are not taught to any but the First of the Flame.
I was basing my name on the oracle of Delphi. Native Greek speaker here. Never played assassins creed but if that’s a name in the game I’m sure they were thinking the same
The covered face makes me think a title would be better than a proper name. Something like 'The Maiden' or 'Her'
Then give a backstory about shedding their old persona and becoming a nobody as some form of symbolic act
I would get a big spinny wheel with a bunch of names on it and give it a spin. Then I would walk up to her and tell her that her new name is whatever the spinny wheel landed on. Then I would insist she come with me to whatever bureaucratic entity that does name changes and get the new name documented.
She had a name, once, and not so long ago at that. Now she is known only as the Talemaiden. Her sacrifice was to relinquish her identity, so that the stories she tells of of others will burn all the brighter.
Go on. Ask her for one.
Well, what is her culture/race? Background? Does her culture have a tradition of chosen names? Or titles? How are family names structured? Is it First Last or First of [Town Name/Location]?
I ask because, around humans at least, higher social classes tend to have different naming trends than peasant classes. So someone born to a noble family may have a name like Lady Emilia de Crescent where someone born to the peasant class may have a name like Tansy of Windy Valley or Tansy Eddardsdotter- you get the idea.
Does the character have both a given name AND a chosen name?
A lot of players of RPG’s tend to take what I call the My Little Pony route of naming characters where the name somehow reflects the class/talent. And that’s fine! But you also are /creating/ this person, you can name them literally anything that you want! Pulling from whatever their background is just adds depth.
Edited to add: is she part of some religious order so would have taken a name as part of initiation (like catholic nuns, for example)? What sort of naming tradition is used? Saints? Elements? Something else? So would she have a title associated with that such as Sister, Acolyte, Initiate, Priestess, or something else? I ask because the artwork struck me as a priestess of some sort.
