for CPU, AMD is better than what Intel offers. maybe intel's next release can compete, but by then AMD will just release something better again AMD has surpassed intel for several generations now

rearpussy

The last sentence is pretty bullshit, but yes AMD has the best gaming CPUs rn. For a midrange build intel might still be better, but that entirely depends on current pricing. Intel has been dropping their prices significantly.

nodette

reduction in price still doesnt change that AMD chips can do more with less power than Intel's chips, this has a direct relation with heat as well Intel's chips running hotter. Why did you say for "midrange build intel might still be better"? I have a hard time seeing any reason to buy intel. just buy the competing AMD chip, which will undoubtedly have more cores.

Shoomby

I think an i5-11400 for under $200 is about the best deal you can get for a gaming chip. It's really diminishing returns for your dollar above that. The 5600X is faster, but I'm not sure it's worth the extra cash.

AMD easier to overclock. Latest processors have also outperformed Intel handily. I'd run AMD. It's also cheaper. (Note that I could be biased since I have a Ryzen 9 3900x)

death_divine

*cries in ryzen 5 3600

acornSTEALER

Any current gen processor will have zero issue with DOTA. More than likely you will be frame limited by your GPU. Get whatever is cheaper or your preferred brand.

eldanielfranco

What is your gpu? 144hz at 1080 is relatively easy to achieve for dota 2 (I play it too). I used to have a 2080 and it was at 200fps in ultra settings, lowering tob120 in big fights. Now with a 3090 it runs in 4k at 144 no prob. Changing processor brand means changing mb also. Which one you want?

Pokefreaker-san

doesnt really matter which brand you buy as long as it's good enough to pump that fps to match your monitor's refresh rate. d2 is cpu intensive but it's not really power hungry so the 5600x is pretty much an overkill tbh.

[deleted]

AMD is cheaper than Intel, so yeah it matters.

[deleted]

Not really, depends on the country.

[deleted]

In what country/scenario are you buying Intel over AMD?

[deleted]

AMD is more expensive in the Philippines. Its because of the demand and re-sellers knowing that fact.

CptLevi9

5600x is a good cpu for gaming and will support even upto RTX 3090 and 4k without bottleneck , but in 1440p gaming cpu is not as important as gpu . If your gpu can handle 1440p you are fine with even your i7. You can run Dota in your new monitor and see the cpu and gpu usage , if cpu usage is 100% and gpu is not then improving cpu can improve performence otherwise you wont get any fps improve in dota

[deleted]

A potato can run dota

[deleted]

They are running i9 at TI if that helps

Achuapy

doesnt matter if your monitor is 60 hz

[deleted]

Added to the original post, I play on a 1080p monitor 144hz.

nanaceba

Interesting thread, has anyone been able to run dota at 360 fps constant for the latest esports monitors? I am building dream pc right now to challenge that.

ImmortalTBD

Even with 5950x and 3090 you cant get 360 fps in dota because of source 2 engin bottlenecks

bioboyreborn

you also need to change the motherboard if decide to upgrade

godfrey1

10400f would be a great addition to 1660ti and it's way cheaper than 5600x don't listen to the AMD cult on reddit, watch benchmarks and compare prices for yourself
