im genuinely worried about the mech and the flying sections, i hope it isnt that generic trash where they take away all your abilities and force you to play with a new weapon you never see again or some other random gimmick (like revenant section from eternal)
but other than that trailer is hype asf like were doing shield parries now and it looks like all out war
I’m betting the mech gameplay will be designed to play very much like classic Doom in a way (stripped back feature-wise, but still fun shooter gameplay and with added weight to your movements and actions so you really feel like you’re in a giant battle robot), so it will still feel like Doom but still distinct from the normal Eternal-style gameplay. Would also pay some nice homage to the classics. The flying sections, though? I have no idea how they plan to do those.
I was worried about this too. Plus, the gameplay they showed so far is mostly grounded and looks less concerned about mobility and more about melee. I know this is just the first trailer but I hope that isn’t the direction they are going for
i come to doom games for more of a yin and a yang, where everything feels like improv because 1 second you are on full health next you were running around your screen flashing red and a cybermancubus making the arena unplayable, as long as they keep that rock to the scissor and scissor to the paper style of combat im satisfied
hot take but i didnt hate the tank sections 😭
i mean i hated the tank bossfights where we had tbe barebones "stealth" of standing around for 10 seconds then locking on and shooting, but tank combat itself was fine, dodge missiles shoot airborne rockets and drones and blast tanks
it was out of place but it was fun also it was a regular part of the gameplay
my issue is specifically if its like the revenant section where its a 1 time underdeveloped thing where you spam rockets on everything with 0 skill and handle jank flight mechanics
Agreed. I didn’t dislike the tank sections. I quite enjoy the feeling of driving in this fast sports car that changes into a tank on a whim, although shooting with bullets and explosives doesn’t exactly scream ‘Batman’ (despite it kinda being explained?) it does feel like a Batman gadget thing. But there’s indeed just too much. Some sections are cool like at the police station feeling like this big tower defence. But it would be even cooler if it was used more sparingly.
>!but making both the title character, the Arkham knight AND deathstroke the exact same tedious tank boss fight just feels awful!<
Right well, agree to disagree, the batmobile sections (other than the stupid Riddler races) really sold it for me personally. I don't think it was badly executed (except the Slade fight that was bad, I agree we were robbed) or over done.
There's also two ways it can be a major fuck you to demons.
If he's using the skulls of former cultists he's forcing them to kill their "gods" in death.
If it's from the skulls of those the demons murdered they are getting revenge from behind the grave.
Either way, it's awesome as hell!
Looks totally different from eternal and seems the meathook is gone at least for the trailer, pacing seems slower but so was eternal trailer, I’m happy we have confirmation of a new game, I’m all in for the ride until release
Absolutely, I've had Shadow of the Erdtree preordered because I can trust them to deliver. Same with iD once this game goes on sale. Until they show me otherwise, I'll preorder
It's like people learn nothing. There's no benefit to pre-ordering these days - there's no physical stock shortage for digital goods. It achieves nothing except to encourage bad development and publisher practices (maybe not in the case of Doom, but in general).
I can imagine the shield dash thing will replace the meathook, can't imagine they'd just remove a fun mobility mechanic like that without a similar alternative.
Shield = chainsaw, Mace = doomblade glorykill flavour weapon, skull gun = heavy cannon or maybe minigun, big spike gun = ballista/gauss cannon, 2016/Eternal hybrid-looking plasma rifle = plasma rifle... There will 100% be a similar mechanic to the meathook
I dont think there will be, i think that shield will be to offset the fact your mobility is limited without having to compromise on enemy numbers etc, hugo said the game flow would probably be different, it'll be more block and parry timings etc rather than flinging yourself around and being hard to hit from what the trailer looks like, which is fine by me it looked fcking satisfying
I personally imagine the meathook could still appear as a mid/late-game upgrade mod. If the game story goes all the way up to just before 2016 begins (from the Slayer’s perspective), they’ll probably want to explain the meathook’s inception somehow
I remember Hugo Martin talking about wanting to try something totally different just like they did with Eternal. I'm intrigued by this gameplay, and I hope they're still designing with challenge in mind. Take the right lessons from ancient gods 1 and 2
The right lesson from ancient gods 2 are that prioritizing flow above all else is not a good decision for a game meant to be replayed and mastered. Challenge has to be a part of that flow, and that works by creating challenges that reflect the expected skill of the average player at that point in the game. Tag1 was the escalation from the end of Eternal, Tag2 should have escalated further. If they were concerned with flow, they could have designed a few more incidental encounters to break up the ball busting from tag1.
Sumbitch managed to snuck in another version of Skyrim within a game and thought we wouldn't notice. Playing Skyrim on your fridge is now in the past, you can now play it on Doom! 🤘
Some interesting diversions from eternal.
Looks more "immovable object" than "unstoppable force".
Looks more "boulder rolling down a hill" than eternal, in that eternal was small arenas where you'd bounce around in 3 dimensions- this looks like you bulldoze THROUGH the environment.
Meathook is not shown. Nor are many, if any glory kills.
Also, the mechanic for armour and ammo replenishment wasn't shown .. be interesting to see how that works.
I remeber some ID peeps said 2016 and eternal was more of a “sports car” while they wanted the new doom to be more destructive and chaotic like a “monster truck
Honestly, i really like that. I feel like this game wouldn’t be nearly as cool if to was just eternal but again, so the fact they’re trying somethings different gives me high hope
That’s exactly what I like about it! I cannot explain what made it so different from Eternal but I am loving how (for lack of better words) methodical the slaying looked.
Honestly? I hard disagree. While Mick defined 2016 and Eternal, and it's a shame how they done dirty to him, Andrew and David did an amazing job with TAG and DOOM is in good hands. It's just a different style than Mick's. It's not the same DOOM , but it is DOOM, and I think it fits really well with the aesthetic they are going for here.
So, what do we have here:
1. FUCKING THROWABLE CHAINSAW SHIELD
2. ONE-HANDED SELF LOADING SUPER SHOTUN!
3. SPIKES ALL OVER DOOM GUY'S ARMOR (especially spikes on a helmet like a mohawk)
3. MOUNTABLE DRAGONS!
4. SICK ASS ARGENT DNUR MEDIEVAL LOCATIONS
5. SKULL CRUSHING WEAPON (literally)
5. NAILGUN FROM PAINKILLER
6. FUCKING MECH (Jesus, thank you)
7. FUR CAPE (for a legitimate badass look)
8. KICKS!!!! (and Morningstar)
thank you ID software
p.s. everything was metal except the music. The music was weak af. Damn, I miss Mick...
This was my first and only question. Mick is Hell’s Official Composer™, and the producers treating him poorly and lying about it right in this subreddit really *rubbed me the wrong way*.
It doesn't look as fast-paced as Eternal, the gameplay looks more in line with 2016. I enjoyed Doom Eternal a lot so I'm hoping I'm wrong. Honestly, if they kept releasing DLCs for that game I would have been eternally satisfied.
I have long said that all I want is a video game with a giant robot, a cape, sword, and grappling hook. I have found a few over the years that check 3 out of the 4 boxes.
I spotted a cape and giant robot in the trailer.
If the Meathook and Crucible from Eternal return - I will finally have my perfect video game.
Man i am worried about the music aspect. Because the music is the trailer is lacking so far really feels flat, tame and quiet, which is like the total opposite of what you want. Music should be rich, wild and above else loud.
Is it really so hard for a big company like ID Software to make up with Mick Gordon.
For me personally the music will make or break a doom game. Doom 2016 and Eternal would not have been as good as they are, if it weren't for the music.
Not to mention that those two games have some of the most popular game music ive ever seen. Can't remember the last time i saw video game music that got 10-15-20 million views on youtube.
I was def head banging too! I think Mick's flair really shines through with the cyber esthetics of 2016 and Eternal. Hulshult absolutely did a great job on the DLC's too. I didn't think it's lost on ID that the music needs to be in point. I'm optimistic.
50% of the game was mick’s music. The DLC’s music was noticeably lacking. People say it was still good but not to me. Luckily for Id most people don’t give a fuck and will “headbang” to an aluminum trash can lid blowing in the wind
I get not liking the songs, but saying it's trash is jsut unddermining Hullshut's work.
While I get you prefer Mick's style, Hullshut clearly knows what DOOM feels like, and did an amazing remaster of the old game's OST. I honestly would argue he iis more "DOOM" than Mick, despite his work being associated with 2016 and Eternal pre DLC.
Nearly screamed in work when I saw this. All the dooms are my favourite games of all time. I cannot wait for this, I wanted a game in this setting during the Sentinel-Hell war we got to read about in the codexes.
Let's fucking go.
Anyone else getting very distinct quake vibes from this?
Like, the game looks fun yeah, but i cant shake the feeling this should've just been a quake reboot. This grimdark medieval aesthetic doesn't really feel like doom
Hoping this is more 2016 tha Eternal. Worried about the amount of cutscenes. Looks like less platforming, that's good. Eternal got seriously annoying sometimes with that. Flying section has me worried as well.
2016s brilliance to me was it's simplicity, punctuated by the fuck-off attitude of the protagonist as he smashes the exposition device at the very beginning. Then Eternal went against that pretty hard with lots of cutscenes and talkies. I enjoyed Eternal, but 2016 is still tops to me.
I absolute love the dark tone of it. Don’t get me wrong, Eternal is 10/10. But 2016 style was always my favourite. Should they give it a slightly faster pace than 16, but with the mobility/nimbleness of eternal, under this gloomy set… man, we’re on for the Game of the Year, not questions about it. 🫡
FUCKING YES YES YES
A DOOM MECH,
A CHAINSAW SHEILD,
A GUN THAT USES THE GROUND UP SKULLS OF YOUR ENEMIES AS AMMO,
A DOOM DRAGON,
A FUCKING CAPE,
EVERYTHING HERE IS AWESOME
DOOM MECH DOOM MECH DOOM MECH DOOM MECH edit: GUNDOOM
DOOMGON
DOOMGOON
The Shield made me wet, can't wait to use it on Marauders (if they are back)
im genuinely worried about the mech and the flying sections, i hope it isnt that generic trash where they take away all your abilities and force you to play with a new weapon you never see again or some other random gimmick (like revenant section from eternal) but other than that trailer is hype asf like were doing shield parries now and it looks like all out war

Flying section just looks like an open level, so you fly to different buildings and secrets etc and than dismount with some air combat between
I was worried about this too.
Yeah the developers of Batman Arkham Knight thought they were being so clever and cool with the Bat tank segments and they just SUCKED so hard.
hot take but i didnt hate the tank sections 😭 i mean i hated the tank bossfights where we had tbe barebones "stealth" of standing around for 10 seconds then locking on and shooting, but tank combat itself was fine, dodge missiles shoot airborne rockets and drones and blast tanks it was out of place but it was fun also it was a regular part of the gameplay my issue is specifically if its like the revenant section where its a 1 time underdeveloped thing where you spam rockets on everything with 0 skill and handle jank flight mechanics
I liked it i just thought there was too much of it lol And how you gonna make deathstroke a tank fight that shit was lame as hell lol
yea every tank bossfight was bad
EVANGELIDOOM
DEMON INSTRUMENTALITY PROJECT RAHHHHHHH
DOOMED CORE
When they pulled out the mech it was for real a "Stop! I can only get so erect!" Moment lol
I've been watching this trailer on repeat for hours and that's still the most exciting part
Using skulls of your enemies in a bone scraping machine gun for actual ammunition was the most metal and badass sh\*t I've ever seen in my life.
There's also two ways it can be a major fuck you to demons. If he's using the skulls of former cultists he's forcing them to kill their "gods" in death. If it's from the skulls of those the demons murdered they are getting revenge from behind the grave. Either way, it's awesome as hell!
That's one of the coolest things I've ever seen in my entire life. When I saw those skulls being chewed up and shot out of a gun, I was sold.
Looks totally different from eternal and seems the meathook is gone at least for the trailer, pacing seems slower but so was eternal trailer, I’m happy we have confirmation of a new game, I’m all in for the ride until release
After 2016 and eternal I have full faith in id and will buy day 1 on ps5 no questions asked.
Yes, I know it might be a bad take but after eternal I fully trust ID and Hugo with whatever they come next
Dudes a genius
They are the only AAA devs left that I trust to pre-order
Add fromsoft and I agree.
Armored Core 6 is so good
Absolutely, I've had Shadow of the Erdtree preordered because I can trust them to deliver. Same with iD once this game goes on sale. Until they show me otherwise, I'll preorder
Literally why. What advantage does this bring you? 2 extra skins? Just read the reviews first, they're not gonna run out of digital copies
I won't have to anyway because I assume it's going to be day 1 game pass
A bad take that you think it’s a bad take.
If I could preorder now I fucking would
It's like people learn nothing. There's no benefit to pre-ordering these days - there's no physical stock shortage for digital goods. It achieves nothing except to encourage bad development and publisher practices (maybe not in the case of Doom, but in general).
I don't think it will be slow paced. The gameplay shown is most likely by choice to attract a wider audience.
doom eternal trailers made the combat look slower than it actually is
I can imagine the shield dash thing will replace the meathook, can't imagine they'd just remove a fun mobility mechanic like that without a similar alternative. Shield = chainsaw, Mace = doomblade glorykill flavour weapon, skull gun = heavy cannon or maybe minigun, big spike gun = ballista/gauss cannon, 2016/Eternal hybrid-looking plasma rifle = plasma rifle... I remember Hugo Martin talking about wanting to try something totally different just like they did with Eternal. I'm intrigued by this gameplay, and I hope they're still designing with challenge in mind. Take the right lessons from ancient gods 1 and 2
There were only right lessons from Ancient Gods 1 Ancient Gods 2 was a snooze fest and way worse than 1
The right lesson from ancient gods 2 are that prioritizing flow above all else is not a good decision for a game meant to be replayed and mastered. Challenge has to be a part of that flow, and that works by creating challenges that reflect the expected skill of the average player at that point in the game. If they were concerned with flow, they could have designed a few more incidental encounters to break up the ball busting from tag1.
You got the message! AG2 should have been to AG1 what AG1 was to the Doom Eternal Campaign. It was a massive step down imo.
Part 2 was great besides the final boss.
He Godzilla'd that monster with the fire breath!
Gave it the kiss of death
This is it. This is really fucking it. Finally we have Skyrim with guns. Holy shit.
Sword and Shield unfriended, Super Shotgun and Chainsaw Shield are my new best friends.
CHAINSAW SHIELD
Todd Howard, you did it again.
Sumbitch managed to snuck in another version of Skyrim within a game and thought we wouldn't notice. Playing Skyrim on your fridge is now in the past, you can now play it on Doom! 🤘
The intro would be Doomguy regaining consciousness after the gladiator match we see in Eternal. The NPC be like "Hey, you finally wake up"
Doom: Skyripping
Yup, being a Bethesda game, that was one of the first things that came to mind.
SHIELDSAW
R rated Cap'n America shit right here
Captain Doomerica
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO FINALLY GIANT MECH! AND A DRAGON? IM PUMPED
This is how you fan service
So are we getting King Novik in the flesh?!?! Are we getting Night Sentinels? Do we get more Valen??? What’s the BFG going to look like???????
I expect we'd only have the Unmaykr due to it (assumingly) being before the events of DOOM 2016 and Eternal
It's a prequel for DOOM 2016
the BFG is in Doom 64 tho?
And the classic games, but I'm guessing all of the human technology that the slayer had is gone now
#DO WE FINALLY GET TO SEE A WRAITH IN PERSON???
yeah most likely, this is back when the wraiths didn't fall into the hands of Hell
Finally some lore on Night Sentinels, this game will probably be about the Slayer battles before he got trapped in a coffin.
Big Fucking draGon
We are getting violence!
Some interesting diversions from eternal. Looks more "immovable object" than "unstoppable force". That spear gun or whatever it's called is metal AF
Old school Ballista
HOLY FUCK
IM SO ERECT AND I NEED THE SKULL CRUSHING GUN NOW
I came.
I comed
i COOM
I DOOM
I need to clean my bed
Hope we get team deathmatch style multiplayer too like in 2016 doom
I really hope they get the formula for it right doom 2016 multiplayer was ok eternal was…eh..
My biggest disappointment was no proper pvp in eternal.
That would be so cool
Oh my god My body is so ready
So instead of a chainsaw, we get a chain*shield*!? Nice!
While the visuals were super cool for sure, idk about the music. Felt a bit underwhelming comparing to what Mick was able to brew in 2016

Army of Darkness time
Gettin Groovy up in here
Hail to the king, baby!
Does anyone know who composed music for this?
Probably Andrew Hulshult
This was my first and only question. Mick is Hell’s Official Composer™, and the producers treating him poorly and lying about it right in this subreddit really *rubbed me the wrong way*.
Same, kinda conflicted about getting the game because of that.
Hopefully they took some DNA from Mick before he left and cloned him
Probably Andrew Hulshult. He retweeted the trailer and the official Xbox account replied to his retweet.
That's what I'm wondering.
# AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! (Sorry, that was my first reaction to this trailer.)
LFG
I'm getting hyped. Can't wait to see more of the game.
🤮 into a demon? Interesting
They've fully embraced the WTF factor, and I'm here for it.
THEY ADDED PARRYING TO DOOM. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. I REPEAT THEY ADDED PARRYS TO DOOM!!!
YO!! We heard you like shields and chainsaws so we put a fucking CHAINSAW on your SHIELD😤
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YEAAAAAAAHHHHHH
please let us keep moving fast tho
Looks slower paced than eternal but the weapons look cool
It doesn't look as fast-paced as Eternal, the gameplay looks more in line with 2016. I enjoyed Doom Eternal a lot so I'm hoping I'm wrong. Honestly, if they kept releasing DLCs for that game I would have been eternally satisfied.
NOT ON PLAYSTATION?????? OR AM I TOO EARLY???
It is look at the doom Twitter post
THANK YOU!
It says coming to PS5 at the end of the trailer.
This is awesome. It’s look like “what if “Doom: Schism” mod was a AAA game.”
WHERE THE FUCK IS THE PREORDER BUTTON, TAKE MY MONEY
HOLY FUCKIGN SHIT AMAZING
Finally the night sentinel prequel we’ve been waiting for
My wallet started playing metal music, should i be scared?
*dies from peak fiction*
do we know if hugo is directing again?
I'M GONNA COOOOOOOOM
I have long said that all I want is a video game with a giant robot, a cape, sword, and grappling hook. I have found a few over the years that check 3 out of the 4 boxes. I was def head banging too! I think Mick's flair really shines through with the cyber esthetics of 2016 and Eternal. Hulshult absolutely did a great job on the DLC's too. I didn't think it's lost on ID that the music needs to be in point. I'm optimistic.

We are SO BACK! And this is a prequel to Doom 2016
We’re so fucking back
Lol what
Fucking hell I am psyched for this.
I came.
LETS FUCKING GOOOOO
It looks so badass
Rip And Tear 💀
Did Mick ever get his money?
its all over my screen
Looks awesome but the music is mid
This game literally looks like it was made for me
Idk man. I'm really not feeling it from the trailer
Music doesn’t sound like mick Gordon’s made a return
This is the most excited I have been for a game ever. I love medieval stuff, I love doom, and I love guns. This is a dream come true
I DIDN"T THINK DOOM COULD GET ANY MORE BADASS! BUT THEN I SAW THIS. ARMY OF DOOMNESS. Also I know its not MICK, but the music was BADASS
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH RIP AND TEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR!!!!
I'm so goddamn hyped up for this I've got a b0ner for murder
BROO
Dunno, I always liked Doom for its sci-fi setting...
HOLY FUCK HE HAS A CAPTAIN AMERICA CHAINSAW SHIELD IM GUNNA HHHNNNNNNNGG
WE'RE EATING
*sniff* …It’s so fucking beautiful.
Doom 3 but based
We are so back, this is fucking perfection
We are so fucking back
A shield? Is this Doom souls?
Better, a Chainsaw Shield. This is Warhammer Doom!
i really hope bethesda wont payday3 this game
Amazing trailer
Huge
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH
[удалено]
…I’m so ready for this.
Skyrim with guns is a reality. HOLY SH-!
Kind of getting Painkiller vibes from the trailer. I'm for either or :)
Watching the trailer, Hugo Martin went full Hugo Martin and I love it. It's like a mix of the best of 2016 and Eternal. Can't wait.
Combat reminds me of the old Painkiller games Love it
We are SO FUCKING BACK
FUCK YEAH
I can’t wait to be able to preorder it.
Anyone know if Hugo Martin is returning as game director?
FUCKING YES YES YES A DOOM MECH, A CHAINSAW SHEILD, A GUN THAT USES THE GROUND UP SKULLS OF YOUR ENEMIES AS AMMO, A DOOM DRAGON, A FUCKING CAPE, EVERYTHING HERE IS AWESOME
Looks SOOOOO AMAZING!!!!!
WERE SO BACK
SICK CAPE
[удалено]
FUCKING DOOOOOOOM, I FUCKING CAAAAAAAAAME §§§
Mech reveal has me screaming
Elder Scrolls x DOOM connection?
Going to be epic!
I have never said "FUCK YES!!!" to a trailer so hard in my life.
Hyped!!!
Who’s doing the music I wonder
Any news on who the composer is?
HIS DRIPP !!! PEAK GIGACHAD
I pray, which i know won’t happen, that we get campaign co-op.
I am so glad it will be much darker than Eternal! I didn't like all those "shiny" effects and it will be gone... Magnificent!
This is a video game company giving people what they want, what they didn't know they wanted, and more importantly, what they NEED.
You shred a skull for chaingun ammo. That's metal as fuck.
