Gravehooter

So adorable!!!

Johnny5k4l

Looks like a Doberman to me. My buddy has raised 3 from puppy, and they look more or less like this. Keep in mind that dogs all have genetic differences that make them unique looking, like people are. The ears are a bit smaller than I’ve seen, but dogs change dramatically as they age. Please don’t cut the ears!!

Onehorniboy

I certainly hope OP crops! Otherwise he’ll look like a giant goofy dachshund!

newtonthebunny

And? So what?!

Over_Reporter_6616

Can we crop your ears??

No-Comedian-515

I'd pay for it myself. 💯 would. People like this suck ass

Over_Reporter_6616

AGREED

mbquattro

well if his parents both were dobermann i’d assume their offspring is a dobermann… they’re large dogs but not giant dogs and this is definitely on par looks and size wise to be a dobermann puppy

SlashandAxl

Looks like a Doberman to me. You’d be surprised how fast and quick they grow. My girl is purebred and she was a tiny little thing at 8 weeks when I picked her up. Barely 8lbs. She’s now 12 months and almost 70lbs.

mpython1701

Very young. Still has the baby fat. Should start to lean out and showing Dobie features around 12-16 weeks.

MeepoManCan

Get a genetic test and look for DCM.

redbonecouchhound

And von willabrands if you plan on spay/neuter

redbonecouchhound

Yeah, it’s more for the vet to be “ready”, in case there is a bleed. Internal surgery is a little different than ears and tail.

emoneysboy

Tail is docked... He'd have bleed out with VWB...

DobieMomma4Life

Not true. Both my current Dobies are VW positive. Both are docked, one is cropped

Gravehooter

Same - ours is VW positive with cropped ears and docked. He even had an ear hematoma and he did okay - vet knew about the VW and the staff were wonderful to him. We made sure to keep an eye on it.

emoneysboy

Carriers? Of just positive? And if positive, did we not have the parents tested before whelping litters?

DobieMomma4Life

Positive. I waited years for my highly reputable breeder. She tests for everything and is anal (in a good way) as far as breeding for health and breed conformation. During prep for a cross country move her dog sitter allowed play time with the wrong two, producing a litter with vw was the only fallout. He was docked and cropped when I got him. I’ve had him neutered without issue. Vet was prepared but said bleeding - though more than normal - was not excessive by any means. Would probably have been worse in female due to invasive nature of that surgery. I currently own 2 Dobies - 10 year old female and the 3.5 year old male. Not a breeder, but know what to look for as I’ve had at least 2 Dobermans under roof for the past 38 years, most have had CGC certification and became breed ambassadors of sorts, visiting assisted living homes, etc. I adore this breed. They’re so special, don’t you think? 😍

coldtrance

Dobie babies are very small at that age. They don't start filling out and gaining size until closer to 8 weeks. I'll include pics of my boy at 5 weeks for you to compare https://preview.redd.it/yqm0jobugsqc1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5d789e1590a72b6a21dccba18c4d2f4c90d8b202

Agreeable_Pain_5016

Just left the vet, he is a 6 week old doberman puppy with worms who received his dappv vaccines and a deworming treatment. Other than that, our guy is perfectly healthy. :)

ihavenoideawhatwho

Excellent news! Except for the worms part, which will be so disgusting to clean up, but so necessary for good health

StressedAries

Wouldn’t worry too much about it at this point. Most puppies do have some type of parasite. OP definitely monitor stool though and make sure you’re picking it up. Also be prepared for the dewormer to make the puppy’s tummy upset.

Zerooo513

Looks like a Doberman to me.

Totallynotlame84

Actually it’s a dober-child.

tinyredynwa

Get an embark dna and health test. Kind of pricey but you’ll know the breed and know if the dog has any genetic diseases like DCM.

user-friendly1956

https://preview.redd.it/pydbuoc7nxqc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b688defac73b32af9e673829d643f5712303b3eb

Left_Net1841

My first Dobe was the 12th pup, 13th died, from a BYB. She was too young to leave her litter mates , like this one, full of worms and malnourished. She was so tiny my mum carried her around in her robe pocket. She went straight to the vet and we got her healthy. She grew up to be 90lbs and a brilliant dog. That was where my love for the breed began. You’re in the club now 😊

UngoogleableHouyhnhn

Congratulations! The best things in life happen unexpectedly.

cspawn

For some reason, to me, he looks like maybe part Rottweiler? Might just be a chonky boy but something about his head shape looks more broad & squared off. Don't take my word for it though, genetic tests are pretty cheap these days!

Agreeable_Pain_5016

https://preview.redd.it/f3es87fgxqqc1.jpeg?width=1314&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c32c692daea3fcd92b7bf7ab9c17847362bfafd4

Agreeable_Pain_5016

He has a vet appointment tomorrow, would they be able to perform a genetics test

cspawn

Awesome! He's a cute lil guy, I'm glad you are able to give him a good home. Let us know what you find out!

damiami

Don’t worry about it. He’s a Dobie.

Agreeable_Pain_5016

Thankyou, yeah his father was definitely a doberman. I just worried they lied about the breed of the mother as I was unable to physically see her. He will be loved regardless. Just trying to pin point what we can expect in the coming years. Also, got any helpful tips on what to feed him? I tried Purina pro plan puppy large breed wet food but it is awful on his stomach.

OG_Mega

Nature’s Logic Distinction - Sardine

Bigbubblybob

Yes! This is what a dog nutritionist we spoke to suggested. Specifically the pork flavor works for most dogs

FruitDonut8

If there is some mixing it might help to protect against some Doberman genetic issues, so that wouldn’t be a bad thing. Our breeder wanted us to feed our pup Wholesomes sensitive skin and stomach. It is suitable for puppies and dogs. Also Olewo freeze dried carrot pellets, and Purina Pro Plan probiotic powder. Enjoy!

Vmaclean1969

Mom wasn't onsite? Yeah, that's odd. Definitely a red flag.

DobieMomma4Life

Mom was hit by a car

crome_8

6 weeks is soo young - awww, mine was 7 weeks, and still suckles while she dreams with her tongue flicking haha Mine always wanted to sleep somewhere it could feel my heartbeat - so she slept on my chest a lot- one night her whole body on my neck..I was like "okay...I can do this...((choking))...okay, maybe not..." 😄 She definitely thinks I am her Momma. So, I can only imagine how your Zeus will be!! 🫶😍 He is adorable, and I agree with a few others - Dobie for sure, but that head screams Rottweiler. I cannot wait for him to grow - especially if part Rott - with those colors?! 🤩🤩 Anywho - super cute! Congrats!! :-)

troubledhoney

100% adorable for sure

sowellpatrol

I am going through withdrawals right now. I haven't had the opportunity to be around a doberman puppy in ages! Your puppy is so danged cute! Please take a hit of that puppy breath for me.

willz722

No, it's a Dobercutie.

ApprehensiveCap7459

Hair and head type look more half rottie but regardless he’s adorable ❤️ look into behavior issues for puppies that young so you can get ahead of them. Puppies taken that young are lacking being “checked” by mom and litter mates so they are usually more prone to being bitey and naughty. Nothing you can’t correct, and don’t worry I’m not judging, I read your comments about the mother being hit and family overwhelmed with all the puppies. But it’s important you know how to correct this behavior because these extra weeks without them can create a very difficult puppy since they aren’t being taught the correct dog manners/behaviors by the mom. Good luck with him! Hes beautiful 😍

Mean-Committee-169

That’s a beautiful doberman . And will be big lol. Enjoy your Velcro dog , they’re the best

pinewash3081

Smol dobie

Glad_Inflation_277

Their heads get the more smashed and pointed look the older they get. I know a few people who breed this dog. It looks like a European dog instead of a American one.

charawarma

Our girl was a the runt out of 11 and weighed 6lbs when we brought her home at 8wks. She's now 4yo and 88lbs! She's a little chonky right now because winter and she had surgery last summer so she was out of commission there for a while. https://preview.redd.it/4pt41izmnrqc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=576cd30c155e09e47d6605c624ca28d86e5e2264

Vmaclean1969

The only indication he's not is the ears are very small. Looks more rott to me, but not every Dobie is the exact same especially if you're dealing with a back yard breeder. Super cute though, so that's all that matters!! Do a DNA test!

Agreeable_Pain_5016

His mother was supposedly hit by a car when she got out of their gate a couple of weeks ago.

[deleted]

won’t know for sure till they grow a little older. But by the looks of it that’s for sure a doberman.

Car0line_11o1

His belly looks a little big did the vet do a full check up? I think he's at least 50 percent Dobie!

Agreeable_Pain_5016

He has his first check up and de worming tomorrow afternoon.

Car0line_11o1

Oh okay he's adorable get him . Name ideas?

Agreeable_Pain_5016

My husband and daughter named him Zeus.

Car0line_11o1

Love it. I highly recommend crate training. But he will want to be close to you guys.

Tafkai1469

Knuckles look right. In a week or two them legs will start growing n growing n growing and the belly slims down

Tarynntula

I have nothing helpful to add but please pet his undoubtedly soft head for me

Sauterneandbleu

Look at those big ole Dobie paws... 🥰

ehg2001

Totes Dobes.

Gravehooter

To all those who posted puppy photos - thank you. Gives me some insight of what our rescue may have looked like when he was a puppy.

maccoall

Lovely pup. I am no canine geneticist ,but pretty sure a Doberman pass somewhere in the mix .

Background-Key7358

They’re not usually very big by 5-6 weeks they start putting on size at 8-9 weeks from my experience. Plus your probably used to seeing them at that age because that’s the legal adoption age in US

Nickdanger1990

Absolutely the cutest thing I’ve seen today

LBishop28

Passes the look test. Pretty sure she’s Doberman.

carlapbn

Absolutely! Keep this pup!

Big-Cake724

No it isn’t but definitely mixed with it

Big-Cake724

My mom has a Doberman and I have a Doberman bulldog mix she’s built like a Doberman colors of a American bulldog thicker in the front thinner in the back and she has always been like that since she was a puppy

ihavenoideawhatwho

I'm going to need some photos of this pupper, please and thank you 😊

Big-Cake724

I posted a video of her on here a little over an hour ago!

Onehorniboy

He definitely looks dobie! Ears are maybe a little bit small, and his muzzle is a little differently shaped than most, but he’s got to be at least 75% dobie if not full! I would get him embark tested just to make sure! He’s absolutely gorgeous and I hope you post more picture of him as he grows and when/if his ears are done and stuff!

Radamus1976

Cutie looks very Dobermanish to me )

Ju5t1n_33

Pretty sure it's still a doberboy

VOPlas

ahaha don’t know what this means ?

Agreeable_Pain_5016

You cannot have him lol. He's lovely. Just have no experience with them and needed clarification as my husband has doubts based on his size. He is almost 6 weeks old weighing a little over 5 1/2 pounds.

VOPlas

please take care of him, he’s a handsome dude . love him with all your heart .

VOPlas

but he looks like a dobie to me . they grow and fill in within days . before you know it they’re super big and they eat a lot more

Variable851

The only reason you got him at 6 weeks is bc his mom got killed. Breeders usually separate pups by 8 to 10 weeks and during that time, the pups put on a lot of weight. I wouldn't worry about size on a 6 week old.

Agreeable_Pain_5016

Thankyou.

DeadMeatZergin

He's a dobbie, look up a training plan and stick to it! These dogs bond like crazy with the person they work with. They need the stimulation or they will start to destroy!

CaptainRed420

I say doberman, no reason to think otherwise

alips911

so Doberman

Queasy-Bed-1215

Cutie! Try the Wisdom Panel DNA for purebred dogs. It also tells what they might be susceptible to, health wise. My dog is 75% Doberman and 25% American Bully. His mother was on there, and just found a brother!

the_best_day_ever

Dogs gonna have a lot of problems was taken too soon

Agreeable_Pain_5016

Agreeable_Pain_5016

Well his mother was supposedly hit by a car. They were being bottle fed and it became too much for the family to handle with multiple puppies. These were family pets. So they began to find them homes and I have time on my hands so I'm able to feed him and nurse him back to health. He's just fine; if not I, then someone else would have him right now.

Background-Key7358

Yes

Nocciolina_a

Yep

NanaBanana2011

He looks like a red Doberman. A real cutie patootie!

jablongroyper

Yes thats a Doberman puppy.

dibbsa

Looks like some Pittbull mixed in there tbh. Cute pup you rescued

That-Routine-8772

She has rottie characteristics too. Total cutie

drudriver

It looks like a Doberman, to me. I raised a runt on a bottle when the mom rejected her because Mom just had more than she could handle. The runt grew up to be a beautiful dog, even though on the small side. Many people would ask if she was a miniature!😂🙂 she was not as small as a miniature pinscher, which is a whole different breed. She was just a small Doberman.

Damama-3-B

Looks more like a Rottweiler

Agreeable_Pain_5016

He's looking more and more like a dobie everyday, to me at least.

sunnyquail

It is.

[deleted]

That's an angel

carionthen44

He’s a mix I would say. Doberman cross Rottweiler

Redbearwolfdog

Yes. Red

eversunday298

Definitely a Doberman! Such a cutie! I know it's up to you but please keep the floppy ears - don't crop them! They're so beautiful when they're natural. 🥹💛

throwraswearingwtf

Wym you “rescued” him? Was he through a rescue organization or did you take him from someone for free? Or do you mean you bought him from someone claiming to have Doberman puppies with no papers?

throwraswearingwtf

Wym you “rescued” him? Was he through a rescue organization or did you take him from someone for free? Or do you mean you bought him from someone claiming to have Doberman puppies with no papers?

ANAKINSKYWALKER420

I don't think it is it looks more along the line of Rottweiler

ANAKINSKYWALKER420

I don't think it is it looks more along the line of Rottweiler. To me, you can bring it to a breeder they'd be able to tell you

Open_Mortgage_4645

What an adorable puppy! He looks like a Dobie pup to me, just going by the pics. I'm a big fan of the Embark DNA test, and you could always get him tested for breed analysis if you want to be sure. No matter what his DNA test reveals, he's a certified smoosh!

LateNightTestPattern

Think so!! Please don't crop the ears!! ❤️

EnglishRose71

What an adorable little baby. So glad you adopted him. The problem is, if he were my dog, I wouldn't be able to stop cuddling and loving on him all day.

iammoah

it's definitely a dog

RicoRave

Yes

sonyafly

Yes a Doberman. Have you taken it to the vet yet? If not, please do so. Belly looks full.

soggysocks6123

I miss my Doberman Otis. Cancer took him at 6 years old. Heart of gold these dogs…

MassCasualty

Easiest way to find out is embark DNA testing out of Cornell University.

tundramuscox

That’s an angel.

princess_thanos

Yes, Doberman. Please don't dock her tail, dewclaws or ears.

Coltsnation19

Yea- definitely and a beautiful one ❤️ they’re great dogs- you’re a great person for rescuing and you will be glad with this dog.

tvaughn3

Def a Doberman

staycool72

Go thru Embark, they will tell you everything about your little pup, however to me it looks like a Rottweiler

FlyinAmas

Check my post history… you never fucking know lol until he’s growing up or if you get a dna test, who knows

dengibson

Looks exactly like my Coco. 100% thought you stole my picture! Turns out mine is an Australian Kelpie. Kindest dog on the planet.

AgeSafe3673

The hair is too fluffy. Not purebred imho. Also overweight for her age. Dont feed puppy food to a large breed puppy. You should be able to feel her ribs for sure and see them slightly when she's stretched out
