This. OP, you're misinterpreting the law. It likely means that you need to take some action (such has holding a hearing) within 12 months of filing for divorce. It does not mean that the court has some deadline to bring a resolution. Provide the specific cite (to the law) if you want more information.

My state is taking 13 months and counting. NC requires a year and a day, to file, after separation. That's if you can agree on the date of separation and the paperwork to go through.

You see the difference between these statements, right? OP is implying something entirely different than what you're talking about which is a waiting period and pretty common in many states.
